00:00Is it possible to imagine a future with public baths that are beautiful, sustainable and accessible to everyone?
00:09This is what Essity has asked for with its brand Torque, launching the Perfect Toilets initiative,
00:14involving seven architects called to develop design concepts of public baths for six major Italian cities.
00:21According to the Torque Insight Survey, the use of public baths is perceived by 62% of Italians as unhygienic,
00:28while 48% are anxious about the idea of using one.
00:32The projects presented at the AXI Museum in Rome aim to overcome this perception
00:36and combine social and environmental sustainability with accessibility to the aesthetics of urban spaces.
00:42Today we are here to present this Perfect Toilets project,
00:46which aims to raise a topic that we consider social, to talk about public baths in urban environments.
00:55For us, Torque is a topic that is very close to our hearts,
01:00because our main goal is to break down barriers to well-being
01:07and therefore try to make hygiene sustainable and available to everyone.
01:13This is very important for us because it touches on many elements, many topics that are fundamental to us.
01:21First of all, inclusion.
01:23So having public baths that are inclusive, that give everyone the opportunity to use,
01:28during their day, whether they are tourists or citizens who are moving for work,
01:33hygienic and efficient public baths.
01:36Sustainability, because more and more we have to work on solutions that are in line with the environment,
01:44that allow to pollute less, to consume fewer products, to generate fewer waste,
01:50these are all topics that we are constantly working on.
01:54We asked seven architects to tell us what public baths could be like.
02:01We asked them to do it in six different cities, because two groups worked on Rome.
02:08It emerged that these structures could be interesting structures from a spatial point of view,
02:15they could have works of art, they could have an architectural but also functional value.
02:24I believe that on the subject of public baths we will have to work a lot,
02:29because it is a need that is felt in all cities,
02:34and especially in these periods of hyper-tourism, not only by the population,
02:39but also by the people who go to visit the cities.
02:42There are many Italian cities that are visited by tourists.
02:46The subject is public baths.
02:50Public baths could also be a great opportunity to re-qualify public space.
02:56So public space, which at the moment does not have this service,
03:02could also be somehow re-qualified by the bath system,
03:07because public baths must become objects of design,
03:12and therefore sustainable, as today architecture has this task of being sustainable,
03:19sustainable in materials, but also sustainable in the insertion of the city.
