00:00The title of this exhibition is not a title by chance, Italy is in movement, we have to
00:10imagine that they are waiting for us to build our future and we need days, because certainly
00:16they have more push and more vision of what the future will be.
00:21In 2024, the centenary of the first opening of the Italian highway, which is the first
00:27highway in Europe, the Milano-Laghi, also recalls the 60th of the other iconic highway
00:35of the country, the Autostrada del Sole, which was inaugurated by Aldo Moro, using two
00:43words in his speech that struck me.
00:46The first is about boldness, that is, the ability to imagine what no one imagines.
00:51In fact, infrastructures are an enabler of growth and the Autostrada del Sole has been
00:57an enabler of the growth of this country.
01:01The second is ingenuity, that is, the ability of people to put their own ability to design
01:08an infrastructure.
01:09You can see it from the images you see, from the photos that are there today at the MAXI,
01:15to understand how complex those works have been, which have been carried out and which
01:18go through this territory, I say it in Italian, beautiful, fantastic, but extremely difficult.
01:26It is made of valleys, mountains, rivers and crossings where there are inhabited centers.
01:33This is the story we want to tell.
01:36There are also elements of design.
01:39Design is the other characteristic element.
01:42You start from a sheet of white paper and try to imagine what the needs of the people are,
01:49the needs of those who will be the people who will follow us.
01:54So our future, how can we imagine today to build the future for future generations.
02:01This is the other element that is connoted by this exhibition.
02:05You can see it from the sketches, from the plastics, from what people imagined at the time
02:10and we must say that we benefit from this wealth today.
02:13Certainly, the sustainability of mobility, and in particular the sustainability of rubber mobility,
02:18is a problem that we must face.
02:21There are different mechanisms.
02:23Do not believe that there is only one solution to be able to face it,
02:27but we must face it by maintaining an economically sustainable system.
02:32And so you have to have, let's say, that ingenuity to be able to do both.
02:38There is also a message from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella,
02:42where the wise words of that message give us, let's say, hope
02:48and also give us all the responsibility we need to be able to work with great determination
02:55and to be able to guarantee that this infrastructure can serve the common good of people.
