00:01:00you
00:01:30you
00:01:43evening coach hope your day is going
00:01:51well yes thank you yes yes sir we're
00:01:53going to go go ahead and get started
00:01:55with questions Pat Freeman will have our
00:01:57I can't hear him you hear me now I got
00:02:00you yes sir how you doing coach pretty
00:02:03well how are you pretty good
00:02:05congratulations on your 83rd win and
00:02:08your fifth straight division title and
00:02:13you might as well say you've qualified
00:02:16for the playoffs now seven out of eight
00:02:18years I think that is once again a
00:02:20tremendous accomplishment after a game
00:02:23like last night when you looked at the
00:02:27film what were some of the things that
00:02:30bothered you that the team probably
00:02:34didn't do as well as you would like man
00:02:39now we're gonna get into a real coaching
00:02:42conversation here absolutely yeah no I
00:02:46mean there's plenty there's always
00:02:48things to work on and I can give you
00:02:51something yeah once you give me I'll
00:02:54write them down go ahead give me you
00:02:56give me what you saw well I know you
00:02:58weren't pleased with the yards per carry
00:03:00of the 49ers 5.7 yards what do you
00:03:04think contributed to that was more the
00:03:08weather or no I mean I think you got to
00:03:11kind of take that out of the equation
00:03:14when you just get to us trying to become
00:03:17a better football team right so when you
00:03:20do that what you see is you know it was
00:03:23kind of a one person here one person
00:03:25there it wasn't just one position group
00:03:28or just one player so to speak you know
00:03:31we can do a better job overall I thought
00:03:33the effort was outstanding it was just
00:03:35more of making sure we're Simon sound
00:03:38and what we're trying to do and my last
00:03:41question to you coach your red zone
00:03:44efficiency four for four 100% that's got
00:03:48to be a great thing to take away from
00:03:50games like that well it is and I thought
00:03:53the the offense did a great job there
00:03:55with you know coming up with sevens
00:03:57instead of threes and we knew based on
00:04:00you know their their tendencies as a
00:04:02team we felt strongly that we were going
00:04:05to have to do that score sevens and as
00:04:06opposed to three like I said so that was
00:04:08a big part I think a pivotal factor in
00:04:12the game all right coach those are my
00:04:14questions for today congratulations
00:04:16you're the 57th winningest coach in NFL
00:04:19history and you're the third winningest
00:04:22coach in this franchise history that's a
00:04:25tremendous accomplishment I appreciate
00:04:28that means a lot to me you can share
00:04:29some of those maybe accomplishments and
00:04:31good traits with my wife who might
00:04:35appreciate hearing that from time to time
00:04:37I'll do that thank you sir have a good
00:04:39day all right hey Sean John Worrell
00:04:43now I was it was impressive to see you
00:04:48do snow angels was that was that a first
00:04:50for you well I did grow up in the
00:04:54northeast I do have some experience with
00:04:56with the snow gotcha gotcha you know I
00:05:00died those it was very very amusing but
00:05:03um as Josh has taken on a larger
00:05:06leadership role how much has the bond of
00:05:08trust developed between you and him
00:05:10perhaps not just this year but I mean
00:05:13over the course of your relationship you
00:05:18know I think like anything relationships
00:05:19continue to grow and as you go through
00:05:22the years they they get stronger and and
00:05:24and some go the other way don't get me
00:05:26wrong but in this case our relationship
00:05:28has every year you know gotten stronger
00:05:32and stronger and you know the level of
00:05:34trust and just also I think being on the
00:05:39same page with how we want to play and
00:05:42just the way that Josh is leading our
00:05:45team this year in particular of just
00:05:48that feel that he has for just you know
00:05:53what we need to do and when we need to
00:05:56do it and how it needs to look and he's
00:05:58really done a phenomenal job with with
00:06:01that with our team this year and just
00:06:03lastly is it is it funny or amusing to
00:06:06reflect back to the start of training
00:06:07camp when Brandon Bean so passionately
00:06:10defended Josh from the critics who
00:06:12referred to him as being overrated yeah
00:06:17I think when I read read some of those
00:06:19comments that came out I mean it's I
00:06:22just I you know I mean I think Brandon
00:06:25did a phenomenal job number one number
00:06:27two you know he and I continuously shake
00:06:33our heads of you know look at the film
00:06:38right so all the people that thought
00:06:41that that doubted Josh when he was
00:06:44coming out of Wyoming and I think they
00:06:48may have looked at the numbers but
00:06:50didn't take the time to look at the film
00:06:52and that's okay just continues to do
00:06:56what he's done I appreciate that Sean
00:06:59thank you very much sure hey coach
00:07:03emails over at channel 10 hate to ask
00:07:05you another Josh Allen related question
00:07:07but he surpassed Jim Kelly last night
00:07:10for total touchdowns in franchise
00:07:12history did you have a moment after the
00:07:14game I know you did the you know the
00:07:15stow angels with him but after the game
00:07:17to kind of reflect on that and that feet
00:07:19with either him or Brandon and kind of
00:07:21you know be appreciate you guys took the
00:07:23right guy a couple years ago well you
00:07:25know usually after after games I have a
00:07:28chance to meet with with with our owner
00:07:31Terry and and Brandon my locker after
00:07:33the game with the mics my my being able
00:07:36to be around the players my ability to
00:07:38be around the players I should have said
00:07:39is is not as much as I would like just
00:07:42because you know things happen that I go
00:07:43and talk to you guys so I have not had
00:07:46a chance to really be around Josh since
00:07:48that point in time but just extremely
00:07:50proud and what I what an accomplishment
00:07:52right what an accomplishment couldn't
00:07:56happen to a better person super happy
00:07:59for him and what he's got going on off
00:08:01the field as well and how he continues
00:08:03to grow and this is a new chapter in his
00:08:05life so just extremely proud impressed
00:08:08and just fun watching him grow through
00:08:11the years and then secondly you know
00:08:14your secondary held them to you know
00:08:16five yards per pass last night it's been
00:08:19a kind of a strong suit for your defense
00:08:20all year and that's considering you know
00:08:22some turnover from last season what do
00:08:25you think has been so strong or made
00:08:26that made that group so strong year over
00:08:29year you know with you at the helm well
00:08:35I think you know number one the players
00:08:36we have good players players that are
00:08:38smart that buy into the system and then
00:08:41two is the coaches I think I've done a
00:08:45phenomenal job you know starting with
00:08:47Bobby and then into into the the back
00:08:49seven if you will coaches of understand
00:08:52teaching and then getting the players to
00:08:54understand at a very high level of what
00:08:56we're trying to do and how we're trying
00:08:57to how we're trying to do it so the
00:08:59players understand the whys behind what
00:09:00we're doing I think so sure thing
00:09:05hey coach the rushing offense finishes
00:09:08with 220 yards last night that's the
00:09:10most all season for you guys how
00:09:13important has the offensive line been to
00:09:16this offense this season huge Maddy and
00:09:20we knew that specifically last night
00:09:23going into the game it was going to be a
00:09:24lot of scrimmage game did not anticipate
00:09:27quite honestly the level of snow or the
00:09:30amount of snow that we were going to see
00:09:31during the game but at the end of the
00:09:34day it really kind of magnified the
00:09:38importance of being able to run the ball
00:09:40last night so huge credit to our
00:09:45offensive line coach Cromer coach coach
00:09:48gunned and to Joe as well as really all
00:09:5111 guys out there on the field as you
00:09:53know it takes 11 guys to run the ball
00:09:55effectively a similar group of
00:09:57characters in the offensive line this
00:09:59season if you compare it to last but you
00:10:01know switching around across the line
00:10:03with guys is there anything that's
00:10:04impressed you about this group so far
00:10:07that maybe you didn't expect to see or
00:10:09something that you've been really happy
00:10:10to see a great question there's you know
00:10:14they're usually with offensive linemen
00:10:16there's they're kind of predictable and
00:10:18just because I think that's just kind of
00:10:20what goes with with the position right
00:10:22and we do have the continuity mainly you
00:10:26know mostly from last last season and
00:10:28then I think David moving up into that
00:10:30role in his relationship and
00:10:34synchronization with Dion and Connor
00:10:36working on his left and his right there
00:10:38with those guys is has been impressive I
00:10:40think and that's call it a new piece it
00:10:43wasn't really a new piece but new as of
00:10:45you know the start of training camp this
00:10:47year at least then one more just how
00:10:49impressive has it been to watch Alec
00:10:51Anderson continuously sub in and sub out
00:10:54and really help that group as a whole
00:10:56and and help you guys gain some really
00:10:58important yards yeah he's great you
00:11:02know I know the guys talked about him
00:11:03last night a little bit with what type
00:11:05of person he is what type of player
00:11:06what type of teammate you know his some
00:11:09of the commentary or the comments he
00:11:11makes when he's jogging off the field I
00:11:15find sometimes humorous during the game
00:11:17and I don't really remember him until
00:11:18after the games over he's just a guy
00:11:22that loves football loves his teammates
00:11:25doesn't really take liking at all to the
00:11:28opponent so which I can appreciate and I
00:11:32think his teammates can as well thanks
00:11:35coach
00:11:37what did you think of Alex's belly dance
00:11:42after the one touchdown we have and yeah
00:11:45I just you know what I didn't know
00:11:47honestly I'm glad you brought that up
00:11:48Matt I didn't know who it was I thought
00:11:50it may have been Connor but that would
00:11:51have been a little bit off of counter
00:11:54personality so yeah I think I think it
00:11:58was Dalton Kincaid who lifted his shirt
00:12:01up when Josh made the run against Kansas
00:12:02City for that touchdown and I caught
00:12:05kind of a side view of that that you're
00:12:08referring to last night and couldn't
00:12:10tell if that was a white t-shirt or what
00:12:13was going on there it was it was his
00:12:17belly which was yeah no problem so very
00:12:22entertaining guy to your point how did
00:12:24you guys come out injury wise from
00:12:26yesterday yeah I think we're still
00:12:29working through some things on so then
00:12:31really no new updates from this past
00:12:33game but Dalton Keon DC and Talon all
00:12:37progressing and we'll just see see where
00:12:40it goes this week here did you feel like
00:12:42was there any hesitation with Matt
00:12:45knowing the conditions yesterday and
00:12:46having him make his debut in that kind
00:12:48of situation because you talked about
00:12:49out of the game how the footing was so
00:12:51tough and then how did you feel like he
00:12:53handled it going back and watching the
00:12:54tape right I thought he got better as
00:12:57the as the game went on and that's to be
00:13:01expected like like we discussed in the
00:13:03week leading into the game had been out
00:13:05for quite some time and I think he would
00:13:07tell you the same that as the game went
00:13:09on he started to get kind of his legs
00:13:11back underneath of them and settle in a
00:13:12little bit as far as the you know
00:13:17thoughts about the conditions and
00:13:20whatnot you know I usually in that
00:13:22situation I'd leave that up to Nate for
00:13:25him to let me know and he didn't say
00:13:26anything so we were we were on green
00:13:28light there the whole way and then one
00:13:30last one for me quickly I know you love
00:13:32these kinds of questions the real
00:13:33introspective ones but for you
00:13:35personally I mean just my observation of
00:13:37having covered you for seven seasons I
00:13:39think throughout this whole year from
00:13:41training camp on I've never seen you so
00:13:45comfortable settled sometimes we could
00:13:48be an irritating I get that but just
00:13:50all of the back-and-forth the exchanges
00:13:51do you feel like through everything
00:13:54you've been through that you personally
00:13:55are in the best place that you've ever
00:13:57been as a head coach in the NFL well
00:14:02it's probably a better question for the
00:14:03team I would say but as far as myself I
00:14:06think I just more than anything I know
00:14:09who I am and I know what I believe in
00:14:11and for me I think it's just continuing
00:14:15to honestly seek God and what I do and
00:14:18how I do it thanks Sean sure
00:14:23Oh Jermic Mookie Hawkins Mookie you
00:14:28look like you're in like a some form of
00:14:31like sled car or something man you're
00:14:33all bundled up flying a plane or
00:14:35something I don't know what's going on
00:14:36yeah we got practice coach we still at
00:14:39it man we still at it we got practice I
00:14:41had to dive in the car real quick but
00:14:43congratulations congratulations you
00:14:46one just give it just give me your
00:14:49assessment of yesterday's yesterday's
00:14:51game yeah you know I think overall you
00:14:55know it was an important game like they
00:14:57all are good opponent coming in here we
00:14:59knew we knew it was going to be a lot of
00:15:01scrimmage game and a game that we had to
00:15:03make sure we took care of the football
00:15:05and you know felt strongly like they
00:15:10were going to be at their best and I
00:15:13thought more than anything you know that
00:15:16the environment at home to be able to do
00:15:19that at home Sunday night with the
00:15:22weather the way it was on top of that
00:15:23was fitting for Buffalo and fitting for
00:15:26our team absolutely coach and I got the
00:15:30opportunity that to talk to Greg because
00:15:32you know since he's been here he's won
00:15:35nothing but AFC championships but he
00:15:38went on to say that you know how
00:15:40grateful he was to be drafted by a team
00:15:42that provided so much of a winning
00:15:45culture and I know that was some you
00:15:47know one of the things that you brought
00:15:50here to do was change the culture so you
00:15:52know your eyes you know eight years in
00:15:54just kind of talk about you know how you
00:15:56know that winning cultures has been
00:15:58created when it comes with that yeah you
00:16:03know just kind of the highlights I guess
00:16:04would be you know coming here eight years
00:16:07ago Brandon and myself wanted to make
00:16:10sure that we tried to identify you know
00:16:15what was good because there was a lot of
00:16:17good within this organization and and
00:16:21then make sure we added what we felt
00:16:23like we would need and you know I think
00:16:27just it's always about people right I've
00:16:29said that I'm probably sound like a
00:16:31broken record but it's that's where
00:16:32really to me where it starts and to us
00:16:34where it starts and having the right
00:16:37people on staff having the right players
00:16:39in the building you know always wanting
00:16:42to be able to sustain through adversity
00:16:45right and that again comes back to
00:16:47people and what types of character you
00:16:49have in there in the in the building in
00:16:51the room so again I think what you're
00:16:55seeing is a team that is connected in a
00:16:58team that believes in themselves and
00:17:00they're really rather unselfish in their
00:17:03approach week to week.
00:17:05Appreciate your time coach good luck this week.
00:17:07Alright you too buddy.
00:17:09Hey Sean AJ Feldman here in Rochester
00:17:11thanks for taking some time I know you
00:17:13said like you said you don't always get
00:17:14a chance to talk to the players too much
00:17:17after the game but did you get a chance
00:17:18to talk to Matt Milano and see how he
00:17:20felt about the game and just kind of
00:17:21making his return after his long
00:17:23recovery here?
00:17:25Yeah again I mean sure my time with the
00:17:27players was was short-lived there so not
00:17:30as not as much as I would want to have
00:17:32reports from this morning from the
00:17:34training staff are all positive so it
00:17:37sounds like he came out came out well.
00:17:41Gotcha and then you know Josh Allen
00:17:43talked about clinching the division this
00:17:45so far in advance it gives them the
00:17:47ability to kind of play relax and kind
00:17:50of carefree and how that can be a
00:17:51dangerous thing.
00:17:52What as a coaching staff you and your
00:17:54coaches what do you kind of have to do
00:17:56to make sure that's the way it goes kind
00:17:58of a carefree style and not kind of
00:18:01veer the other way into you know maybe
00:18:04lose focus with the playoff spot clinch
00:18:06this far in advance I guess?
00:18:08Yeah I mean it is you know as a as a
00:18:11parent as a coach in this case
00:18:13we're all leaders right so you're always
00:18:14trying to make sure
00:18:17that you're at least guiding or or
00:18:20directing them in a certain
00:18:22certain direction if you will but I
00:18:24think
00:18:25you know we've got such a great
00:18:27leadership group and guys beyond even
00:18:30that group that are leaders on this team
00:18:33that are that are really focused on
00:18:36just the day-to-day and trying to get
00:18:38our level of play to where it needs to
00:18:40be every week so
00:18:41I just I'm comfortable with the guys
00:18:45that we have and how they approach
00:18:47you know the challenge on a day-to-day
00:18:49basis and I think that
00:18:51along with along with some gentle
00:18:53reminders if you will
00:18:55will be will be just fine. All right
00:18:58great thanks for your time.
00:18:59Sure.
00:19:02Hey Sean congratulations again thank you
00:19:04for taking the time to chat with us.
00:19:06I just wanted to ask you about Ray
00:19:09just
00:19:10with what he brings to this offense
00:19:12being a rookie
00:19:13I mean you see when you guys are able to
00:19:14get him going the offense is usually a
00:19:17lot more successful
00:19:18just you know how impressed are you with
00:19:20his ability to kind of
00:19:22find his footing and be so productive
00:19:24early in this rookie season and
00:19:26maybe in just through the 13 weeks now
00:19:28what has kind of stood out to you as to
00:19:30why
00:19:31he's finding the success in the offense?
00:19:34Well yeah I mean I would think I think
00:19:35it boils down to a couple things
00:19:37that I see at least number one is how
00:19:39he's wired
00:19:41certainly a good football player but I
00:19:43think just
00:19:44you know rather
00:19:47mature beyond his years to this point
00:19:49obviously as a rookie
00:19:50in the NFL but also I would say
00:19:54to Coach Skipper and in that room with
00:19:56James in there
00:19:58and Ty in there and then Frank Gore
00:20:00juniors in there as well it's a good
00:20:02room
00:20:03for growth right all all those guys are
00:20:06are somewhat different not only as
00:20:08football players but also as people and
00:20:09so
00:20:10I think that's been been good for for
00:20:13Ray
00:20:14early on in his career. And another thing
00:20:17you touched on too
00:20:18yesterday Sean just with the division
00:20:19locked up you look ahead and you know
00:20:21you guys are focused on
00:20:22just the Rams coming up this week but
00:20:24knowing that the one seed and all the
00:20:26benefits that come with it if you guys
00:20:27are able to take care of your business
00:20:28and things
00:20:29fall in your way you know how much of
00:20:32getting to that point do you
00:20:33want the guys to kind of use as
00:20:35motivation with also keeping it
00:20:37balanced with the fact that you've got
00:20:39to handle your business week to week
00:20:42right now I mean it's it's definitely
00:20:43one of our one of our goals is we move
00:20:45this thing forward
00:20:47is to try and get that number one seed
00:20:49but the only way we get that number one
00:20:50seed
00:20:51is that we take care of our own
00:20:53business and that means getting our
00:20:54level of play
00:20:56to where it needs to be certainly you
00:20:57know a number of things from last
00:20:58night's game even that we can
00:21:00improve on as we move forward here as a
00:21:02team
00:21:03and one more quick one just on the
00:21:05background this is the first time I
00:21:07think we're seeing an alpaca on your
00:21:08computer screen is there anything
00:21:10yeah and as to why we're getting to see
00:21:12that
00:21:13yeah I have those at home that's my
00:21:16backyard
00:21:17right there before the snow came and so
00:21:20I'd like to keep a picture of my
00:21:22of my what are they called alpaca
00:21:25oh yeah my pet alpaca
00:21:28that I have at home so
00:21:31I just like to keep those there that I
00:21:34can look at from time to time
00:21:36a friendly reminder that's it you found
00:21:39some great realty in Orchard Park coach
00:21:41thank you for your time appreciate it
00:21:45hey uh hey Sean it's Jay with the
00:21:47Buffalo News that's tough to follow up
00:21:48there um
00:21:50what was the uh the reasoning behind
00:21:52uh promoting Mike White for the game
00:21:54here yesterday
00:21:57uh you know you never know um you know I
00:22:00think number one Mike's done a
00:22:01phenomenal job when I should say you
00:22:02back up you never know um you know if
00:22:05you're going to need him or not
00:22:06there is no um question on the
00:22:09quarterback situation at all if that's
00:22:11kind of what you're asking about but
00:22:12really just
00:22:13Mike's done a phenomenal job um
00:22:16and a little bit of a reward uh to for
00:22:20for what he's done since he's been here
00:22:21and
00:22:22uh a great addition to our team and the
00:22:24culture
00:22:26gotcha um regarding Keon do you feel
00:22:29like he was close yesterday
00:22:30or was it always maybe the plan for one
00:22:33more week there
00:22:36uh again it depends on what close is um
00:22:40there was conversation during the week I
00:22:42would say if this helps you Jay I'm just
00:22:44trying to figure out where exactly he
00:22:45he was um I think we ended up ruling him
00:22:48out or not quite ruling him out but
00:22:50it got to the point where um
00:22:53just didn't look like he was going to
00:22:55be able to go but
00:22:56it took to the end of the week to really
00:22:58get get the best feel for that
00:23:01gotcha and then lastly um Josh had
00:23:03mentioned after the game
00:23:04uh and I think it was at the end of
00:23:06maybe one of his uh runs he was flexing
00:23:08his hand a little bit I think it was his
00:23:10left hand
00:23:10I know that was something that he had
00:23:12dealt with earlier this year
00:23:13uh did Nate give you any update on that
00:23:16is there any
00:23:16concern about that moving forward or
00:23:19obviously he was able to finish it
00:23:20finish the game yeah yeah Nate mentioned
00:23:22it this morning
00:23:23um but did not seem concerned whatsoever
00:23:26about it
00:23:27sounds good thanks Sean
00:23:28Wednesday
00:23:36good afternoon coach McDermott George
00:23:38Randy Challenger Community News how you
00:23:39doing this afternoon
00:23:41good George how are you good good I'm
00:23:44just following up with uh
00:23:46questions in regards to the uh what what
00:23:48does it take for offensive line to gain
00:23:50to get that continuity
00:23:54yeah I mean just the time on task I
00:23:56think just being around each other one
00:23:57year after another has been
00:23:59that's the start of it George and then
00:24:02um
00:24:03you know I think like I said coach
00:24:05Cromer
00:24:06um building a culture in that room and
00:24:08on the field
00:24:10where he works um that fosters
00:24:14um togetherness but also
00:24:17truth and development and um
00:24:21I think just I think that's a big piece
00:24:23of it too yet he allows those guys to
00:24:25also be
00:24:26be themselves and express their true
00:24:28personality so
00:24:30I think that's that's a key piece of of
00:24:33all that
00:24:34okay and last question with the two new
00:24:37safeties and all the new faces that you
00:24:39have on this team this year
00:24:41do you think this could be one of your
00:24:43best coaching years
00:24:44as a overall obviously the season isn't
00:24:46over
00:24:47but up to this point so far uh of your
00:24:50yourself personally uh of your eight
00:24:53years would this be the
00:24:54the top year you think of of it all
00:24:56coming together
00:25:00I don't know we're just taking them one
00:25:02I just take it one day at a time George
00:25:04I appreciate and respect
00:25:06uh you asking that but I I just
00:25:08probably better question for the team
00:25:10um again just I've got a great staff
00:25:12around me and
00:25:14um these guys are fun to coach every day
00:25:17all right thank you coach good luck next
00:25:18week in LA take care all right thanks
00:25:20George have a good week
00:25:21thank you for your time coach that's all

00:34:17you
00:34:47you
00:35:17you
00:35:31hey coach hope your day is going well
00:35:35all right we're going to go ahead and
00:35:36get started with questions Sacramento
00:35:37we'll have our first question
00:35:40hi coach good morning congratulations
00:35:42on uh the ac east division championship
00:35:43good afternoon I should say sorry about
00:35:45that
00:35:46all the same right now I mean I know
00:35:48right
00:35:48been late yeah I want to ask you about
00:35:50start of the game you went
00:35:52first six plays all out of shout
00:35:54shotgun
00:35:55uh three and out and then it was a
00:35:57potential three and out there was a
00:35:58penalty
00:35:58from there I did the math 50 plays only
00:36:0212 were under shotgun and you guys
00:36:03really
00:36:04made most of your gains you know not
00:36:06going you were under center
00:36:07what was the philosophy of change after
00:36:09those first six plays to go back
00:36:11under center
00:36:12yeah I think you know it's interesting
00:36:14when you look at our first drive of the
00:36:15game
00:36:16um you know you always try to track the
00:36:18weather right but as we know in buffalo
00:36:20it's
00:36:21um you can go in that you can go after
00:36:23pregame you can come back and it can be
00:36:24a perfect night you can come back after
00:36:26pregame it can be
00:36:27field can be covered in snow and um you
00:36:30know we felt
00:36:31um obviously you got to do a better job
00:36:33in the first two plays you know and
00:36:35then we get the penalty but when you
00:36:36look at the difference in the first
00:36:37drive in the second drive just how the
00:36:39field the landscape was
00:36:41um and then just doing a great job
00:36:43trying to just communicate with the
00:36:44wideouts and the tight ends
00:36:45you know on the offense making sure hey
00:36:47what does the footing look like
00:36:49um what's it look like looking upside
00:36:52you know
00:36:52uh little things of hey it's you know
00:36:55there it's
00:36:55it's snowing in the lights at dark you
00:36:57know how does it feel tracking yet all
00:36:59that stuff of
00:37:00you know so a lot of things kind of went
00:37:01at play and you can try you can plan for
00:37:03these things we knew it was going to be
00:37:04a weather condition game but um you know
00:37:07until
00:37:07until you're out there every snow game
00:37:08is a little bit different and
00:37:10um you know so it was more of a just a
00:37:12change in philosophy in terms of just
00:37:14kind of
00:37:15hey the footing um the understanding of
00:37:17hey the type of runs the type of cuts
00:37:19we're going to have to be able to make
00:37:20now
00:37:21that um you know uh the snow kind of
00:37:23piled down
00:37:24so just to kind of you know if i can like
00:37:26dumb it down a little bit it would be
00:37:28safe to say going straight ahead and
00:37:30instead of having to kind of go left and
00:37:32right and take a
00:37:33hand off like that and have to pick your
00:37:34way might be a little bit easier in
00:37:35those conditions
00:37:36yeah and i think look you when part of
00:37:39part of
00:37:40you know what what uh brandon and sean do
00:37:42a great job and you're putting together
00:37:43a team but we got to be able to win
00:37:44football games in this weather right
00:37:46right um and there's a lot of different
00:37:47things that come with that
00:37:48style of play but also the type of
00:37:50players that you have and um you know
00:37:53you got to be able to have players that
00:37:54can be ground and be able to make the
00:37:55cuts in the snow and understand how that
00:37:57how to do that and that's tough you know
00:37:59um and
00:38:00you know uh getting a feel of kind of
00:38:03some of the guys and how that was kind
00:38:04of going allowed me to
00:38:06hey feel comfortable calling certain
00:38:07plays or sticking with certain plays
00:38:09kind of how it was going so
00:38:11loved how the guys kind of responded and
00:38:13made the adjustments needed
00:38:15well if i can editorialize for a second
00:38:16that was a great adjustment just wanted
00:38:18to say that
00:38:18um you know so good job on that but i
00:38:20also want to ask about dawson knox
00:38:22stepping in for dalton it seems like
00:38:23when the weather gets colder dawson
00:38:24gets warmer heats up a little bit and
00:38:27he just comes through a lot of times in
00:38:28these late games he has a touchdown
00:38:30streak
00:38:30going in the playoffs um but you know
00:38:32what is it about dawson
00:38:34that you can rely on to know that you
00:38:35know in those situations you know he's
00:38:37going to be a guy you can count on
00:38:38yeah that's that's who he is um you know
00:38:41it might it might be when it's colder
00:38:42in the playoffs but
00:38:44regardless of production you know um the
00:38:47faith the belief the accountability that
00:38:49he kind of we know exactly he's going to
00:38:51do his job
00:38:52um and he's a stud and um all he cares
00:38:55about is winning football and
00:38:56um you know we win because of dawson
00:38:58knox's and uh
00:39:00you know his personality is contagious
00:39:02in terms of the football team the way
00:39:03that he plays
00:39:04um you know he'll get in there if he has
00:39:06to block 60 straight plays
00:39:08um he'll do that if it's going to take
00:39:09it's going to mean that we're going to
00:39:10win football games and
00:39:11you know and when he's having
00:39:13opportunities in the past game you know
00:39:14it was such a huge play backed up
00:39:15yesterday and
00:39:16an incredible throw by josh moving in
00:39:18the pocket and finding him on the seam
00:39:19and making the play with it after and
00:39:21big job big you know big completion in
00:39:23the snow on the end cut and so
00:39:25you know he just goes out there and
00:39:26makes plays and and that's uh that's
00:39:28kind of who he is and we have all the
00:39:30trusts
00:39:31in them and um because he doesn't care
00:39:33about the stats allows him
00:39:35and our offense to have success thanks a
00:39:37lot coach congratulations again
00:39:39thanks likewise hey coach building off
00:39:42of sal's question there just with the
00:39:44offensive line
00:39:44the last two games against you know
00:39:46chiefs and niners they've been able to
00:39:48control both
00:39:49you know pass protection wise and then
00:39:50set the edge in the run game just how
00:39:52important has that been of you know the
00:39:54offensive line being able to set a tone
00:39:56early in the game and then you know keep
00:39:58all the way through
00:39:59with maintaining that edge yeah it's um
00:40:02you know you build your football team
00:40:04we have josh allen don't get me wrong
00:40:05and we're always going to go as he goes
00:40:07but your offensive line
00:40:09if you can if you can control the line
00:40:10of scrimmage and not just control it if
00:40:12you can play on their side of the line
00:40:14of scrimmage if you can protect them and
00:40:15keep your quarterback clean
00:40:16you're going to have a chance to have
00:40:17success and um it's very important to
00:40:20our guys you know you watch all the
00:40:21little things of
00:40:22you know how they are when you know
00:40:24picking up ball carriers or
00:40:25um you know when josh does get touched
00:40:27of running and picking them up like
00:40:29everything is important to those guys
00:40:30and they play just a
00:40:31do a great job you know together as the
00:40:33five or you know and when alex in the
00:40:35game is the six and um
00:40:37you know i love that group i love how
00:40:38they're playing and
00:40:39we just got to continue to find ways to
00:40:41continue to get better
00:40:42and then as the season has progressed
00:40:44you know third down efficiency has
00:40:45gotten
00:40:46better you know as the as the season's
00:40:48gone on just 50 yesterday
00:40:50uh over 50 the last three games just
00:40:53what have you noticed from
00:40:54that scenario in particular where you
00:40:56guys have been able to find an advantage
00:40:58yeah um you know i i'm never a fan of
00:41:01when we i loved victory formation
00:41:02except when victories happen on third
00:41:04downs
00:41:04um but no i think a lot of it is just
00:41:07you know as the season gets on you know
00:41:09you kind of get in the field of how
00:41:10defenses are playing you and josh having
00:41:12a great understanding of
00:41:14kind of who our guys are and getting
00:41:15them in certain spots and um he's doing
00:41:17a great job with his legs and
00:41:19and um you know when the plays aren't
00:41:20there and um
00:41:22extending it right it's every play is
00:41:23not going to be perfect on third down
00:41:25and our guys just
00:41:26end of the day sometimes just going to
00:41:27make plays and um you know we
00:41:29early in the game we weren't living in
00:41:31manageable third downs and
00:41:32um as the game went on we were living
00:41:34in more where we have opportunity to go
00:41:36for it on fourth down or you're
00:41:37unmanageable make life a little easier
00:41:38on us
00:41:39um and so as much as we can stay out of
00:41:41the chains the better for us but
00:41:43it's important for our guys that's to
00:41:45sustain drives and
00:41:46you know in a game like that if you can
00:41:48control the line of scrimmage and stay
00:41:50um and convert on third downs you know
00:41:52it's gonna be you're gonna be tough to
00:41:53beat
00:41:54thanks joe appreciate you hey joe john
00:41:57warrell ap
00:41:59how you doing um let's let's have some
00:42:02fun um
00:42:03we all know the myriad things that josh
00:42:05allen can do what can't he do
00:42:10um you'd probably have a better answer
00:42:14than i would because
00:42:15um i feel like every time you think you
00:42:17think he might not be able to complete a
00:42:18pass to himself he finds a way right
00:42:20so um you know it's um
00:42:23i mean he's um appreciate we get to
00:42:27appreciate you know one of the greatest
00:42:29players
00:42:30right and um sometimes you know uh we
00:42:33take that for granted
00:42:34and uh even myself you know i get to
00:42:36just be around him and be able to coach
00:42:37him and
00:42:38but the things that he does on the
00:42:39football field you know people can't do
00:42:41and
00:42:41um you know we live in an era where you
00:42:44know him and
00:42:45mahomes and and lamar everyone wants to
00:42:48critique and compare and all that and
00:42:50man it's it's such a uh you know the
00:42:52game of football is in such a good place
00:42:54with some such great quarterbacks and
00:42:56uh it's a lot of fun watching these guys
00:42:58play and i'm just
00:42:59uh grateful to be able to be around and
00:43:01and uh be around josh on a day-to-day
00:43:02basis and
00:43:03see him uh just continue to make plays
00:43:05and it's just a lot of fun sometimes as
00:43:07a coach i see it as
00:43:08you know you come away as like as a fan
00:43:10like wow and uh
00:43:12you know it's a lot of fun i appreciate
00:43:14the answer i was trying to stump you
00:43:16there but um
00:43:17um lastly just what is the key to this
00:43:21offense and being able to score this
00:43:23many points when we enter the season
00:43:26with this everybody eats approach but
00:43:29you know
00:43:31this team is scoring 30 plus points per
00:43:33game
00:43:34for the last six weeks what what is the
00:43:37key to that success
00:43:39um the key is the the love that they have
00:43:42one another in the character in the room
00:43:44um it's uh uh it's something that we've
00:43:47been
00:43:48we've we've been making sure everybody
00:43:50was intentional about the relationships
00:43:51and
00:43:52and making it important going back to
00:43:53otas and um
00:43:55you know i know everybody wants to make
00:43:56it about talent and scheme but
00:43:58when you watch us play it's important to
00:44:00each other and
00:44:02you know we're playing for each other
00:44:03and not just with each other and that
00:44:04starts way back then and
00:44:06um you know when we talk about the
00:44:08everything eats and you see when the guys
00:44:09score touchdowns
00:44:10you know everybody's celebrating there
00:44:11like that's important and like i just
00:44:13talked about when guys are getting
00:44:14tackled are we helping them up or
00:44:16if we're getting tackled and they're
00:44:17silent are we running to you know help
00:44:18our quarterback or whoever gets hit and
00:44:21that's what i think is leading to
00:44:22success and leading to points um
00:44:24everything else takes care of itself
00:44:26that that's fascinating point and i need
00:44:28to follow up on that job
00:44:30when you say intentional i mean this is
00:44:32a game
00:44:33that is this is a sport and like all
00:44:35sports are filled with egos
00:44:37how do you get that out of a group of
00:44:40guys to be intentionally
00:44:42selfless well i think you you know
00:44:46this is a um this is the the greatest
00:44:48athletes in the world right like you
00:44:49have to have a level of of selfishness
00:44:51like i want guys to want to be
00:44:53competitive and want the football
00:44:54um and that's what's going to make us go
00:44:57but when you set us when you set a
00:44:58standard for
00:44:59um when you care enough about
00:45:01relationships and you start that in
00:45:02offseason and have conversations with
00:45:04guys and guys hanging with one another
00:45:06and
00:45:06seeing how together how much you know
00:45:09the success that we can have
00:45:11guys begin to believe and understand
00:45:12that hey if i do my job
00:45:14it'll open it up for this guy but
00:45:16knowing that hey in that next
00:45:17opportunity now it comes to me he's
00:45:18going to help it he's going to help me
00:45:20and it all comes together and look we
00:45:22have you know we have egos right you
00:45:24know we're all we're
00:45:26you know we're coaching football you
00:45:27know football players are the best of
00:45:28the best and they want to have success
00:45:30and they want to bring stuff to the
00:45:31table and i want that i want guys every
00:45:32week come and saying i can do more
00:45:34and we have those conversations but when
00:45:36we cross the lines we're going to do
00:45:37everything we can to have success and
00:45:39um and play for each other not just with
00:45:41each other and i think that that
00:45:42is something that um you know has helped
00:45:44helped us find ways to get you know get
00:45:46the ball into the end zone
00:45:48thanks joe appreciate you
00:45:51hey joe uh you said something there that
00:45:53kind of is a good lead-in to what i want
00:45:55to ask you about
00:45:56you know the fact that all of you guys
00:45:57have egos i mean to get to the top of
00:45:58the nfl to be in the nfl i mean i feel
00:46:01like you have to have a level of ego
00:46:02wanting to be better
00:46:04you posted on social media yesterday the
00:46:06the clip that the the bills put together
00:46:08and the receipts emoji
00:46:10i didn't want to ask you so much about
00:46:11the post more so the idea behind
00:46:13the doubt that faced this team and this
00:46:16offense and josh allen the offseason
00:46:18and how much you compartmentalize that
00:46:21as you're going through the season
00:46:24knowing that you have a bunch of
00:46:25really competitive guys that maybe want
00:46:27to prove the doubters wrong
00:46:29yeah you know it's it's not necessarily
00:46:31trying to prove the doubters wrong it's
00:46:33just proving us right
00:46:34right like you know um you know i'm not
00:46:37naive you know i was sitting there in
00:46:39in the offseason and training camp and
00:46:41answering questions and
00:46:42um you know can can hear the concerns
00:46:45that people might have for a receiver
00:46:46room or the offense or
00:46:48this and that but you know we trusted
00:46:50our vision and um and look guys don't
00:46:52get me wrong we have to find ways to get
00:46:54better we have not arrived we are not
00:46:56where we want to be
00:46:57um we have bigger sights ahead but you
00:47:00know um
00:47:01you know we had clear visions for what
00:47:02we were looking for and
00:47:04um i felt that that was you know that's
00:47:06that's what's important and
00:47:08um you know i got the buy-in the
00:47:10character the philosophy
00:47:12um all kind of had to come together and
00:47:14um and uh you know for us to be able to
00:47:17find ways to have success and
00:47:19um you know yes you have to sacrifice
00:47:21some ego but to get to where you
00:47:22ultimately want to go you're going to
00:47:24have to do that
00:47:25and um you know um we believed and we
00:47:28knew we were going to be successful
00:47:30uh be successful offense you know
00:47:32because of the work that we put into
00:47:33the offense and
00:47:34um it's not proving doubters wrong it's
00:47:36just us being able to go out there and
00:47:38show that this is who we believe
00:47:39and we knew we could be um and we have
00:47:41to continue to do that and continue to
00:47:42progress and find ways to get to where
00:47:44you ultimately want to be
00:47:46thanks joe appreciate it thank you
00:47:51okay joe it's mark gone from the buffalo
00:47:53news uh you know when you bring in big
00:47:55bigger personnel whether it's alec
00:47:57particularly alec anderson on the field
00:48:00or it's
00:48:00uh 13 personnel you're going to face
00:48:03more
00:48:04stacked heavy boxes stacked boxes
00:48:07um and most weeks you've still been
00:48:10able to run
00:48:11you didn't really against kansas city
00:48:13but most most every game including this
00:48:15one you've still been able to run just
00:48:17kind of
00:48:18what uh gives you the confidence to uh
00:48:22you know not be deterred by
00:48:25um seeing stacked boxes
00:48:28um well i think it's a combination of
00:48:31who we have
00:48:32um you know having the confidence in our
00:48:34guys and
00:48:35um you know uh some of it had to do with
00:48:37the weather conditions
00:48:38you know last night but um just because
00:48:40it's a stacked box doesn't mean it's an
00:48:42advantage for the defense and
00:48:44um you know there's there's different
00:48:45types of alignments and gap integrity
00:48:48and um opportunities to be able to
00:48:49create a
00:48:50uh you know change a gap and um you know
00:48:53try to get defense to maybe hop their
00:48:54feet and
00:48:55um us to be able to get on and get to
00:48:57the second level and
00:48:58oftentimes you know uh when you stack a
00:49:01defense you also have an opportunity if
00:49:02you do like an opera
00:49:03like what happened with jimbo is once
00:49:05you get through that first layer you
00:49:06know there's a lot there's an
00:49:08opportunity to hit the big play
00:49:09um and so um sometimes there's um
00:49:13you know you can go into a week and
00:49:14hope to get more stacked boxes and
00:49:15sometimes you can go into a week and
00:49:17be like hey you know it's gonna be a
00:49:18better advantage for us to get more
00:49:19split safety and
00:49:20um you know uh to me a lot of it has to
00:49:23do with just
00:49:23kind of what the boxes kind of look like
00:49:25the gaps and you know the techniques that
00:49:27the guys are kind of playing
00:49:28and then lastly uh you know maybe you
00:49:30just uh
00:49:32talk about what you liked on james 65 yard
00:49:36touchdown run and specifically
00:49:38what mac hollins gives you his blocking
00:49:41he had a nice block on that play and
00:49:43just his approach to run blocking
00:49:45yeah i'm the my favorite thing was not
00:49:47having to call another play
00:49:49um you know i like that he helped me in
00:49:51miami do that as well
00:49:52um no but it's uh you know there's
00:49:55there's
00:49:56there's nothing you know there's
00:49:58nothing sexy about the play right you're
00:49:59running a you're running a duo concept
00:50:01and
00:50:01you're just getting double teams and you
00:50:03know trusting that your guys are going
00:50:04to be able to
00:50:05um you know get a hat on a hat and be
00:50:07able to move move a guy and getting
00:50:08double teams and
00:50:09you know and james be able to find out
00:50:11find open crease and make a guy miss
00:50:12like he did and
00:50:14um you know mac collins you know i can
00:50:15speak all day you guys have known how i
00:50:17felt about mac collins going back into
00:50:18training camp and off season and
00:50:20um you know such an incredible you know
00:50:22signing for us a big signing from
00:50:24everything that he brings on the football
00:50:25field off the football field
00:50:27um and uh you know going in there and
00:50:29doing all the dirty work
00:50:31um you know and he gets rewarded and
00:50:33gets a touchdown right and that's part
00:50:34of the everything
00:50:35everyone eats kind of mindset but you
00:50:37know him in there alec made a great job
00:50:39at going and cleaning it up and then
00:50:40jimbo doing the rest
00:50:42you know it's a lot of fun to watch
00:50:44thank you
00:50:49hey joe just thank you for taking the
00:50:50time to chat with us appreciate it um i
00:50:52just wanted to ask you just real quick
00:50:53about ray
00:50:54um you know you've seen it throughout
00:50:55the season what he does to help balance
00:50:58your offense and how effective he is and
00:51:00just for him being a rookie through 13
00:51:02weeks here 12 games whatever it may be
00:51:04is just what do you think has led to his
00:51:06ability to be so effective and what has
00:51:08stood out to you
00:51:09about the way he's kind of carried
00:51:10himself to
00:51:12you know especially in a game like
00:51:13yesterday where you need to have an
00:51:14emphasis on the ground attack for him to
00:51:16play his role and be effective in that
00:51:19yeah i think you know you you go back to
00:51:21you know raise you know coming out of
00:51:23the draft and you know the success he
00:51:25had at so many different schools and
00:51:26everything you know everyone kind of
00:51:27knows about his background and kind of
00:51:29how he's built um it's been incredible
00:51:31to see a
00:51:32you know a quote unquote a rookie but
00:51:33he's extremely mature um but
00:51:36to be able to understand you know the
00:51:38the highs and lows that a season might
00:51:40come in some games i might not get a
00:51:41lot of carries
00:51:42um but be able to stay focused and stay
00:51:44locked in and know when his
00:51:45opportunities are going to come that
00:51:47he's going to make most of it in a game
00:51:48like that
00:51:49um you know you you felt him running
00:51:50behind his pads you know did a great job
00:51:52you know protecting the ball and um was
00:51:54a lot of fun to watch you know you look
00:51:56in the last couple games he hasn't got
00:51:57the touches
00:51:58um you know that you know naturally all
00:52:00the running backs would want
00:52:02um that didn't that didn't um you know
00:52:04shy him away from anything and
00:52:06um and you know sometimes rookies can
00:52:08kind of start doubting or anything like
00:52:09that and
00:52:10um you know i'm extremely proud of the
00:52:12way that he's kind of handled it
00:52:14um and um you know love what he brings
00:52:17to our football team
00:52:18right and um there's a reason that he
00:52:19was brought here and
00:52:21um what he brings to the running back
00:52:22room when you got him and him and you
00:52:24know himbo and
00:52:26sorry him and jimbo and ty um putting
00:52:29those those guys together man we have
00:52:30all the confidence in the world
00:52:32um and when you see the when you know
00:52:34these games are going to be played in
00:52:35the snow and that's why you get those
00:52:37running backs that we have
00:52:38and you know hope that you can be able
00:52:39to wear on teams with the offensive line
00:52:41and
00:52:42you know and um you know it was fun
00:52:43watching them play behind their pads
00:52:45um um that's it's december football it's
00:52:48january and february and that's what
00:52:50we're looking to play and
00:52:51guys like great davis are going to help
00:52:52us get there
00:52:55thanks joe i appreciate your time thank
00:52:56you
00:52:59hey joe i hope you're doing well um
00:53:02kind of piggybacking a little bit of
00:53:04what mark talked about
00:53:05um you guys had a lot of success with
00:53:07duo last night
00:53:09um at what point did you guys kind of
00:53:11realize that maybe some of the tackle
00:53:13trap stuff
00:53:15full stuff wasn't really going to be
00:53:17advantageous with the weather
00:53:20um you know i think uh you know once
00:53:23once you saw
00:53:24you know after the first drive you know
00:53:26some of the
00:53:27um just with some of the footing and um
00:53:30you know how it just was continuing to
00:53:32come down and it was kind of packing
00:53:33down on the field you got to kind of
00:53:35sit back and you know there was other
00:53:37schemes that we thought hey maybe we
00:53:38can take a chance with and kind of work
00:53:40with but
00:53:41you know um you know i'm big on if it's
00:53:43if it's if it's working you know let's
00:53:46make them stop it before we get away
00:53:47from it and
00:53:48uh you know um so it felt like the duo
00:53:51scheme yesterday was something that the
00:53:52guys were
00:53:53you know felt comfortable in it's you
00:53:55know it's it's kind of we we've been
00:53:57doing they've had success throughout the
00:53:58season kind of doing it and
00:53:59you know in conditions like that where
00:54:01you might be getting different type of
00:54:02defensive looks knowing that the defense
00:54:04with the conditions
00:54:05you know kind of give them what they
00:54:06know and allow them to you know kind of
00:54:07figure it out and
00:54:09um you know they did a good job adjusting
00:54:12um you know how what is the poll like
00:54:15for you
00:54:16um you know and when you have a play
00:54:18like that that's working and you
00:54:20touched on there
00:54:21um because obviously the the feed them
00:54:24till they choke mentality makes
00:54:26common common sense but
00:54:29it doesn't always happen you know in
00:54:31football
00:54:33yeah i think look there's there's um you
00:54:35know
00:54:36you know it's uh it's not broke don't
00:54:38fix it right but there's sometimes where
00:54:40you know hey they um you know after the
00:54:42game sometimes you're always like man i
00:54:44should have came back to that and
00:54:45sometimes you come back to when it
00:54:46doesn't work and that doesn't mean that
00:54:47it was
00:54:48it was a you know wrong to go back to it
00:54:50you might be setting up the play pass
00:54:51that might come with it and
00:54:52um you know there's there's so many
00:54:54different layers to it um
00:54:56um sometimes a play just doesn't work
00:54:58because you know we didn't execute it
00:55:00you know but it might have got the look
00:55:01that we want sometimes a play works
00:55:03you know but we didn't block it
00:55:04correctly we just made a guy miss and
00:55:05it you know
00:55:06we can get can get caught up in this
00:55:08sometimes the results
00:55:09um you know but uh you know last night
00:55:12the guys did a good job of just
00:55:13continuing to
00:55:14feel confident in the play and you know
00:55:16finding ways and even on sometimes where
00:55:18we didn't get the necessary yardage
00:55:19knowing that hey you know continue
00:55:21getting to it and good things will kind
00:55:22of happen and
00:55:23i was proud of how they uh it didn't
00:55:25blink
00:55:27how necessary is it to have some games
00:55:29like yesterday where you might be
00:55:30getting to situations where the defense
00:55:32knows what's coming
00:55:34and they they can't stop you
00:55:37um look i think anytime look every game
00:55:40every game in the seasons are all
00:55:42experiences that i think you're going to
00:55:44be able to
00:55:44hang your hat on right and you look
00:55:46forward to them and you know uh
00:55:48you know you can you get to uh
00:55:50necessarily check the box but you know
00:55:51playing playing games in the snow and
00:55:53night games in the snow
00:55:54with it snowing down there's so many
00:55:56different uh layers to
00:55:58to our growth as an offense and being
00:56:00able to see what we can and cannot do
00:56:02as the season goes on and
00:56:03um you know we might play another snow
00:56:05game and
00:56:06it might just be snow on the ground and
00:56:08not snowing it can change things it
00:56:09might be a day game it might there's so
00:56:11many different layers but
00:56:12um there's something too when you know
00:56:14when we you know we just line up and
00:56:16they know what we're running
00:56:18and you're able to find find ways to
00:56:20have success you know there's a lot of
00:56:21power to that and
00:56:23um you know i was proud of the way that
00:56:25the guys kind of just continued
00:56:26just hey let's just keep going to it um
00:56:29and uh
00:56:30and they find ways to make it work
00:56:32that ownership we always talk about
00:56:34has dion lobbied for for more tackle
00:56:37traps next week since you didn't get
00:56:38them all in yesterday
00:56:40uh look uh dion uh
00:56:43dion's dion just cares about winning
00:56:45having a lot of fun and uh
00:56:47um i'm sure if dion can wear ski goggles
00:56:49in a game and do what he has to do
00:56:51life will be good but uh um not dion all
00:56:54dion cares about is winning and
00:56:56and having fun and protecting our
00:56:57quarterback and uh you know he did a
00:56:59good job at that last night
00:57:00all pro snow all right thank you
00:57:05thanks okay that's all we have for you
00:57:07today joe
00:57:08appreciate you guys
00:57:30you
00:58:01you
00:58:04hey coach hope your day is going well
00:58:07thank you awesome uh please raise your
00:58:10hand if we have if you have a question
00:58:18hey bobby how are you doing good how are
00:58:21you good thanks um just wanted to ask
00:58:23what you saw out of matt milano
00:58:25especially you know both live in the
00:58:26game and once you had a chance to go
00:58:28back and watch it what you saw
00:58:29um just out of him and his return yeah
00:58:32i uh
00:58:33you know watching it first off it was
00:58:35great to have him back out there
00:58:37um second off i would say that
00:58:40you know there's some rust we got to
00:58:42knock off there's some things we got to
00:58:43clean up but that's to be expected he
00:58:44hasn't played football
00:58:46you know in a game in a long time and
00:58:48you know each week he'll get better and
00:58:50better
00:58:51what did you see of kind of i know i
00:58:53personally was expecting he'd play a
00:58:55little less at his return just the
00:58:57amount he was able to play
00:58:59how involved he was just where did that
00:59:01kind of line up with your expectations
00:59:03yeah it was really right at where we
00:59:05thought um with the amount of plays and
00:59:07kind of the plan we came up with it was
00:59:09right at about the amount of plays
00:59:12that we wanted to see him get and then
00:59:16you touched on it kind of in the
00:59:17beginning but even just like
00:59:18the emotional aspect of it him running
00:59:20out of the tunnel being a captain what
00:59:22was that whole day like just
00:59:23in that part of it it was really cool to
00:59:26see i mean he's put a lot of time and
00:59:28effort and
00:59:31hard work into what we've tried to
00:59:33accomplish here
00:59:34not only this year and last year but the
00:59:36last eight years and
00:59:38and uh really cool to see you know i've
00:59:40talked about before like the personal
00:59:42side of things
00:59:44you know him breaking his leg in london
00:59:46having to stay over there for an
00:59:48extended amount of time whatever that
00:59:50was a couple days a week whatever and
00:59:53you know some different things having to
00:59:55you know the work he's put in here going
00:59:57to meetings every day knowing he's not
00:59:59playing there's so much that goes into
01:00:00it that not a lot of people see and
01:00:02it's really cool to see him back out
01:00:03there awesome thanks bobby you got
01:00:08hey bobby john warrell the associated
01:00:10press
01:00:12hey john how are you good good it's um
01:00:15it's one thing when the ball slips out
01:00:17of brock purdy's hand and
01:00:19becomes a fumble it's kind of an
01:00:21unforced error but
01:00:23maybe the relief the excitement that
01:00:25you had when you know
01:00:28you're sick
01:00:30when that fumble when you created that
01:00:32fumble at the one yesterday
01:00:36you're just asking about the excitement
01:00:37yeah the excitement or relief perhaps
01:00:40even um yeah i think it was more relief
01:00:44i think it was more relief you know i
01:00:46don't even know if it isn't the one it
01:00:47might have been a six inch
01:00:49you know yard line but that's something
01:00:50our coaches do a great job emphasizing
01:00:53um and uh you know it's good to see
01:00:57things that we work on constantly come
01:00:59to life you know in games
01:01:03now what do you make of this it's almost
01:01:06an unprecedented run of of having
01:01:09turnovers in every game um all 12 games
01:01:12i mean sometimes can i interrupt you
01:01:15yep they're called takeaways on defense
01:01:18they don't very good i'm sorry yes sure
01:01:21we're on the same page here
01:01:22no that's that that's correct my bad um
01:01:26what is what is it about this have you
01:01:28been around such an unprecedented
01:01:31seemingly unprecedented run of takeaways
01:01:34and creating them in every game um you
01:01:38know what's what's that like
01:01:41i mean it's it's an expectation that's
01:01:42what the expectation is and if if we're
01:01:45not winning the you know the turnover
01:01:48margin in the game and we're not taking
01:01:49the ball away it's not good enough and
01:01:51in the end you can look at yards you can
01:01:53look at you know all kinds of different
01:01:56things but if you are taking the ball
01:01:59away from the offense and taking
01:02:01possessions from them it is the ultimate
01:02:05factor the ball is the most important
01:02:07thing in the game of football it's the
01:02:09ball you know it's not the yards they
01:02:11get it's not you know obviously you want
01:02:14to limit the yards and you want to hold
01:02:15them to as you know as as least yards as
01:02:18possible but you know when it comes down
01:02:20to it it's about the football that that
01:02:22little ball we say all the time is worth
01:02:24billions and we need to take it off
01:02:28very good bobby thank you very much and
01:02:30my bad on the takeaways takeaways there
01:02:33you go john
01:02:36hey bobby um i just had one more on matt
01:02:38utah it said that he played as much as
01:02:40you expected what about what he showed
01:02:42in practice like showed that he was in a
01:02:44spot where he could play that much in his
01:02:46first game back in so long yeah i mean
01:02:49he hasn't it's not like he hasn't been
01:02:51doing anything lena like he's been working
01:02:54he's been grinding he's been you know
01:02:57working on his you know conditioning you
01:03:01know his strength and all those things so
01:03:03obviously playing football is playing
01:03:04football um you know he did have some
01:03:08training camp in there obviously he had
01:03:10time off but you know we it was just a
01:03:12day-to-day thing and you know constant
01:03:13communication which we we uh value here
01:03:17in buffalo and and uh you know it was
01:03:20just making sure everybody was on the
01:03:22same page making sure you know we're in
01:03:24constant communication not only with our
01:03:26training staff with him with the coaches
01:03:29and you know just found a spot where he
01:03:30felt comfortable and see how it went and
01:03:33you know there were some contingency
01:03:35things in there um but um yeah it worked
01:03:39out uh you know and i think the elements
01:03:41you know kind of changed the game a
01:03:42little bit you know and turned into a
01:03:45running game which obviously on both
01:03:46sides i believe it was a pretty low
01:03:49amount of plays on each side so you know
01:03:51i think it all played in to kind of get
01:03:53him back into the groove
01:03:55terrell kind of talked about after the
01:03:56game how like he they see the game very
01:03:59similarly and how that kind of helped him
01:04:02to have him out there to see them playing
01:04:04together for someone who's you know
01:04:06coached both of them for so long what it
01:04:08was that like for you
01:04:12i'm calling the game it was good to see
01:04:14about that that's fair but you know
01:04:16there's just the expectation they do
01:04:17their job at a high level that's it you
01:04:19know but it's cool to see him out there
01:04:21it was you know i think it was a little
01:04:23cooler it was i'm not gonna lie like
01:04:25when he got announced and the crowd
01:04:26went nuts you could hear it through the
01:04:27press box you know so that was all cool
01:04:30stuff um you know but when it came down
01:04:33to it it's just the expectations for
01:04:35each player on every defense we call
01:04:37and you know how they perform within
01:04:39those defenses so that guy that all went
01:04:42away as the game went on
01:04:44um and then one other person would ask
01:04:45me i know we've talked a lot about greg
01:04:47and what he's done this season but
01:04:49another sack yesterday and just kind of
01:04:50flying all over the place do anything
01:04:52stand out to you about maybe what he did
01:04:55yesterday in that kind of game where you
01:04:57know kind of getting your feet your
01:05:00footing was maybe a little oh yeah yeah
01:05:02definitely getting your footing i mean
01:05:04if you go back to 2017 you know um the
01:05:07advantage here is we do you know we have
01:05:11we have a running list of kind of a
01:05:13checklist of things when it comes to
01:05:16those type of games and um you know so
01:05:19that's the advantage of being here is
01:05:20you can accumulate those um and uh you
01:05:25know so but the guys know what it is
01:05:27they gotta adjust we gotta adjust within
01:05:29the game um you know we we definitely
01:05:32had some adjusting we had to do based
01:05:34off not only the way sam fran was
01:05:37attacking us but certain things we
01:05:38wanted to do we maybe had to put on the
01:05:40shell for certain reasons or you know
01:05:43do more of something and and um you know
01:05:47so um as far as the footing goes they
01:05:50had to get a feel for it and adjust on
01:05:52their own but you know greg greg i think
01:05:54he's playing at a high level every week
01:05:56is different um the expectations for all
01:05:58our players are very high and and uh you
01:06:01know he's a joy to coach fun to watch
01:06:04him play you got it
01:06:06hey bobby it's been a few seasons since
01:06:08you guys have gone against the rams just
01:06:10what have you noticed about them this
01:06:11season and what makes their offense in
01:06:13particular difficult to stop yeah you
01:06:15know i i've just kind of gotten into it
01:06:18um you know i know this sean mcvay does
01:06:21a great job they all do a great job there
01:06:23they've got a lot of really good players
01:06:25obviously they got the two wide outs um
01:06:28you know the backs run hard they're
01:06:30gonna have you you know they we take a
01:06:34lot of pride in making sure that we are
01:06:38very detailed and the way we go about
01:06:41things and and how we operate and i think
01:06:44they do the same offensively you know and
01:06:47um they're going to be pretty precise in
01:06:50what they're doing um and they have a lot
01:06:53of things that complement you know run in
01:06:56the past both complement each other so
01:06:58um they do a great job and it's going to
01:07:01be a challenge they're clearly going to
01:07:02be a little bit different the last time
01:07:04we played
01:07:09hey bobby it's jay with the buffalo news
01:07:11how are you jay how are you good thank
01:07:13you um the last couple of weeks you had
01:07:16kelsey and kittle at tight end and uh you
01:07:19limited those two guys to i think three
01:07:20catches for 15 yards that's you know maybe
01:07:23two potential hall of famers there what
01:07:26uh who or what has stood out to you um
01:07:29that has led to success against that
01:07:31position which can be at times hard to
01:07:33defend yeah i mean i think i think really
01:07:35jay what it comes down to is you know
01:07:40we understand we try to create awareness
01:07:42for our guys to understand how the assert
01:07:45player is going to attack our defense if
01:07:47that makes sense and not necessarily
01:07:51um trying to do a certain thing for that
01:07:56player but understanding within each call
01:07:59where they're where they can hurt us
01:08:01specifically and that goes with any
01:08:03player any good player if that makes
01:08:05sense to you and and uh you know i think
01:08:08our guys just have a really high
01:08:09awareness of you know the players their
01:08:13locations and based on our call what
01:08:15could potentially present itself so i
01:08:17think it's just a credit to our coaches
01:08:18and our players of having a high
01:08:20awareness of where the ball wants to go
01:08:23the quality of player and what each
01:08:26defense might might call for from
01:08:30different positions based on locations
01:08:33routes you know route progressions all
01:08:36those things sounds good thanks bobby
01:08:38you got it uh hey coach uh in mills with
01:08:42the news news 10 mbc in rochester um i
01:08:45joined late so i apologize if somebody
01:08:47already asked this with dewane carter
01:08:49potentially coming back in the next
01:08:51couple weeks a your excitement to have
01:08:53him back after he had a you know pretty
01:08:55good start to the season and then
01:08:56secondly with the defense playing as
01:08:58well as it is right now does that make
01:09:00it any easier to kind of ease him into
01:09:03the lineup and into the rotation yeah i
01:09:05mean anytime we get a player back we're
01:09:07excited about it and secondly i'd say
01:09:12we're so minute by minute hour by hour
01:09:15day by day week by week that you know
01:09:17our expectation is that he comes in and
01:09:19he can play at a high level
01:09:22to make sure that we can operate at a
01:09:24high level obviously we want everybody
01:09:26to be an asset nobody to be a liability
01:09:28to what we're doing and we're going to
01:09:30evaluate that based off where any player
01:09:32is and do what's best for the buffalo
01:09:34bills defense and uh secondly obviously
01:09:38you've been in buffalo a long time now
01:09:39won a lot of afc championships but first
01:09:42as uh you know defensive coordinator was
01:09:45there any extra gratitude or excitement
01:09:48about that fact
01:09:51i was definitely excited a lot of people
01:09:53put in a lot of hard work but i quickly
01:09:55moved on um and was more focused on other
01:10:00things that we have to accomplish and uh
01:10:03i move on pretty quick so yes there was a
01:10:05lot of excitement um and you got to enjoy
01:10:09the moments i think sean talked about
01:10:10that i mean it's hard it's hard to win
01:10:13it's hard to win a division title
01:10:16the nfl is hard you know and a lot of
01:10:18work goes into it and our coaches and
01:10:20our players you know work their tails off
01:10:22to put us in a position to be able to
01:10:24do that all right thanks so much bobby
01:10:26you got it
01:10:29hey bobby how are you good how are you
01:10:32good thank you uh i just want to uh
01:10:35double back to to john's uh question
01:10:38about the takeaways obviously you said
01:10:40it's an expectation uh in buffalo but to
01:10:43consistently be at the top of the league
01:10:45in that category in a category that
01:10:48sometimes for some teams the school's
01:10:50gold uh how is it so consistent year
01:10:53after year
01:10:55we have a special sauce that we formulate
01:10:59up in our kitchen now it's it's just the
01:11:01emphasis you get what you emphasize we
01:11:04emphasize it our guys buy into it there's
01:11:06been a lot of players here um that might
01:11:09might not even be here right now that
01:11:11that you know helped instill you know
01:11:15really if you want to call it a
01:11:16tradition the standard whatever you want
01:11:18to call it of this is what the buffalo
01:11:20bells defense does and we incorporate
01:11:22it into practice uh we talk about it
01:11:25constantly and um you know you can do
01:11:28that but it comes down to players buying
01:11:30in and i think what happens is kind of
01:11:33when you walk in this door that standard
01:11:35is kind of like a cloud just sitting
01:11:36over the top of us so they know even if
01:11:39even in practice as simple as it is if
01:11:41we don't take the ball away we make sure
01:11:42we understand that that's not good
01:11:44enough we need to take the ball away
01:11:47uh you see your guys you know anytime
01:11:49that somebody has the ball they're
01:11:51ripping at it how do you kind of lend you
01:11:54know the idea that you want to you want
01:11:56to rip the ball away but sometimes when
01:11:58you do that you might give up a few extra
01:12:00yards in the process how do you kind of
01:12:02marry the two yeah we we don't we don't
01:12:05want to go for the ball if the guy hasn't
01:12:07been wrapped up first and foremost and
01:12:09that's you know we talk a lot about
01:12:10second guy in and those type of things
01:12:12but at times as much as you're going to
01:12:15talk about taking the ball away and
01:12:16emphasize it you got to understand that
01:12:18those things are going to happen and you
01:12:19just got to continue to emphasize you
01:12:22know the way we want to go about taking
01:12:23the ball away and then with taylor what's
01:12:27the biggest growth that you've seen from
01:12:29him you know since he's gotten here yeah
01:12:31i think it's just comfortability i think
01:12:33it's comfortability and confidence and
01:12:35what we're doing i mean it's a second
01:12:36year in the system obviously got a lot
01:12:38of run last year got to be with micah
01:12:40and jordan and and uh you know really
01:12:43see their process as far as how we do
01:12:46things here and how they kind of um
01:12:51how they kind of have built their rhythm
01:12:54in what we do and how they see things in
01:12:56our system and and uh you know i think
01:12:59he's spun that into his own you know
01:13:02version of how he knows he needs to
01:13:05prepare and operate within what we do
01:13:07but you know taylor's doing a great job
01:13:09right now and he's definitely a leader
01:13:11out there and uh he's playing some good
01:13:13football thanks you got it
01:13:18that's all we have for you today bob
01:13:20thank you for your time thank you mr
01:13:22jefferson
