00:00Hello, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. It's going to be turning
00:05colder for many of us as we head into the start of the new working week. This is all
00:08thanks to an area of low pressure situated well to the north of the UK, moving its way
00:12north and eastwards into Scandinavia, allowing northerly winds to sink their way southwards
00:16and bring colder air across much of the UK through Monday and Tuesday. We will see a
00:20very brief ridge of high pressure developing through Monday, but it really doesn't last
00:24long as another area of low pressure waits in the wings into Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing
00:28us milder air, but also some wet and windy weather on the way. Back to what we've got
00:33through the rest of Sunday evening though, and there's plenty of showers around, particularly
00:36across northern and western parts of the UK. These quite quickly pushing their way eastwards
00:40through the rest of Sunday evening and into the start of Monday morning, and the showers
00:44across northern parts of Scotland will turn increasingly to sleet and snow, particularly
00:48over any high ground through the early hours of Monday morning. Turning a little drier
00:52across southern and eastern parts of England, so a bit of a brighter start here on Monday,
00:57with plenty of clear spells around, and quite widely a bit of a cooler night across the
01:01UK compared to what we saw over the weekend, thanks to those northerly winds. Across northern
01:05parts of the UK, dropping down into the low single figures, and even in the south, only
01:09around 6 or 7 degrees to start on Monday morning. So that does mean a chilly start for northern
01:14areas on Monday, perhaps some sleet and snow continuing across northern areas, and maybe
01:18that might bring some ice in places, so do take care during Monday morning's rush hour.
01:23Across northern parts of England, some outbreaks of showery rain continue to sink their way
01:27southwards, so then northern parts of England, Northern Ireland, Wales, South West England
01:31will see quite a dry day, plenty of sunshine and blue skies on offer through the afternoon.
01:36With northerly winds though, that does bring some colder temperatures, particularly compared
01:39to what we saw over the weekend, so 9 or 10 degrees in the south, and only 5 or 6 further
01:44north. And along eastern coast, we've got a really brisk northerly wind, so it will
01:48feel really quite chilly here compared to the weekend. As we then go through Monday
01:52evening, that area of showery rain across southern and eastern parts of England clears
01:55its way offshore down towards the southeast into Monday night and into the start of Tuesday.
02:01We may see one or two isolated showers along some eastern coast, but for many of us, it
02:05will be a dry night with plenty of clear spells and some light winds, that might mean some
02:08mist and fog to start on Tuesday morning. And it will also mean a really quite chilly
02:13start to the day, a widespread frost across the UK, widely dropping down below zero across
02:17the northern half of the UK, and only around 3 or 4 degrees to start the day on Tuesday
02:22in the south. So a chilly start for all of us, but quite a bright start too, any mist
02:26and fog soon clearing through the morning, however turning quite cloudy quite quickly
02:30across western areas as we go through Tuesday afternoon. Outbreaks of rain across Northern
02:35Ireland spreading their way eastwards into parts of England as well as we head through
02:39Tuesday afternoon, and on that leading edge, we are likely to see some sleet and snow across
02:43parts of Scotland and Northern England. It will still be feeling quite chilly though,
02:47temperatures still around about average for the time of year, low to mid-single figures
02:51quite widely, although perhaps just turning a little bit milder across the very far south-west.
02:55So that area of rain continues to push its way eastwards as we go through into Wednesday,
03:01so turning wet and windy across the whole of the UK, with some hill snow across northern
03:04areas. And after a cold start to the week, we are likely to see those milder temperatures
03:08return with more unsettled weather on the way through the second half of the week. But
