13 April - national forecast presented by Ellie Glaisyer
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Changeable conditions are very much in charge with low pressure across the UK over the next couple of days.
00:09But it will still be a bit of a brighter start for many of us this morning, particularly across eastern parts of England,
00:14parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland too, seeing some sunshine this morning.
00:17But any showers we see across western areas gradually push their way eastwards as we go through the afternoon.
00:22Perhaps one or two heavier downpours here.
00:24We could even see some sleet and snow over the high ground of Scotland, mainly above 600 to 800 metres or so.
00:29And perhaps some hazy sunshine developing as well across western areas through the afternoon.
00:34Temperatures will be down a touch compared to what we've seen recently.
00:37Highs in the south, 16, 17, perhaps 18 degrees in the sunshine.
00:41But further north, those temperatures returning much closer to average, so generally around 11 or 12 degrees for most
00:46and feeling quite fresh with that brisk southwesterly breeze.
00:51As we then go through Sunday evening, any showers that we see across eastern parts of England generally push their way offshore,
00:56so turning drier for much of England and Wales into the early hours of Monday morning.
01:00But plenty of showers then feeding in across parts of Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland.
01:05Again, these perhaps turning wintry over any high ground.
01:08And a further band of showery rain pushes up from the southwest into parts of southwest England, Wales, northern England too,
01:13by the time we get to the start of Monday.
01:16A little bit milder under that cloud and showery rain.
01:18Temperatures here generally holding up in the high single figures, maybe even low double figures.
01:22But where we do see some clear skies, particularly across eastern parts of England,
01:25temperatures turning much chillier here, getting close to zero, perhaps some patchy frost in places.
01:31So that does mean a bright but chilly start across eastern parts of England on Monday morning.
01:35A bit of a damp start, though, across western areas.
01:38Those showers continue to feed in from the southwest, pushing their way north and eastwards.
01:43Again, perhaps turning to sleet and snow over the high ground of Scotland.
01:47Across eastern parts of England, though, we do hold on to the drier conditions.
01:50Plenty of sunshine here, and even across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland later,
01:54we will see some sunny spells developing between those showers.
01:57With those brisk southerly winds, southwesterly winds, it will again feel quite a bit cooler than it has done recently.
02:03Highs in the southeast around 16 or 17 degrees.
02:05But further north and further west, struggling to reach much above those low double figures.
02:09So feeling much cooler than we felt recently.
02:13Further changeable weather is on the way through the rest of this week.
