00:00What's up, everyone?
00:27This is Noah DelZell, and I'm here with a Saturday night edition of You Got Boston.
00:33Just got back from Washington, D.C., flew back today after being in D.C. since Wednesday
00:39night.
00:40And so I thought that I would do a show just talking a little bit about my experiences,
00:44observations from being in Washington.
00:47We had a White House visit that I can definitely share more about.
00:51We had a shootaround at Georgetown in which we spoke with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown
00:55and kind of reflected on what that experience was like.
00:57And then obviously last night, NBA Cup game at Capital One Arena versus the Washington
01:02Wizards.
01:03Not the most fun game I've ever watched, but I think that there were some good things to
01:06draw from and some not as great things.
01:09And so in any case, that was kind of what the week looked like.
01:12I'm back in Boston today, off day for the Celtics.
01:16And then tomorrow, Celtics will take the Minnesota Timberwolves at home at 3.30 at TD Garden.
01:23So I'll have coverage from there and then as always, we'll have our postgame show, the
01:27Garden Report.
01:28And then they play again on Monday.
01:29So it's a busy three nights and four days schedule for the Celtics.
01:34Lots of fun, lots of things to talk about, and they're 13-3 on the season.
01:38And so I think for a lot of people, people have felt like, you know, maybe they haven't
01:41had, they've had some not great quarters, some not great moments.
01:46I think there's things that aren't, haven't looked as sharp maybe as last year points,
01:49but 13-3, second best record in the league.
01:52That's kind of the big takeaway.
01:53And Christoph Porzingis posted a bunch of photos on Instagram today from his scrimmage
01:59with the Maine Celtics last week that we talked a little bit about last time.
02:03And so he's getting close.
02:04I think he's going to be back in the next couple of weeks sooner rather than later.
02:08I would not be surprised if any day now he was listed as like questionable or probable
02:11or doubtful or, you know, something other than just out.
02:15So with that being said, I can, I'm happy to talk today about the NBA Cup.
02:20I'm happy to talk about the White House visit, anything else, answer any questions you guys
02:26might have.
02:28And then, yeah, we can kind of do this, whatever, whatever, whatever makes sense for you all.
02:33So appreciate those of you, I'm really starting to recognize names, which has been fun to
02:37kind of see the regular, regular viewers, regular listeners.
02:40And then if you're watching this on a rewatch, you're welcome to leave comments in the YouTube
02:43comments, any questions you might have, and I'll answer them directly there.
02:47Twitter, sometimes I miss stuff, usually I miss stuff, Blue Sky as well.
02:51But YouTube, I'll always see because there's not many comments there, so I can, I can always
02:55read through them.
02:56So yeah, let's talk about the White House trip.
03:01So thanks, Tom, for the question.
03:03What was your favorite anecdote from the White House trip?
03:07So I'll just kind of give a behind the scenes of what the White House trip was like on my
03:11end from just a reporter covering the event.
03:16And then I can share what we learned about it from the Celtics perspective.
03:19So I didn't really know what it was going to be like.
03:23I mentioned this to a couple people, but I was actually a lobbyist, I've been lobbying
03:27since I was in college, worked in the political sphere, worked in on like plant based foods
03:32and climate issues and a bunch of other things.
03:34So I always thought that if I was ever going to go to the White House, it was going to
03:37be through my political job.
03:39And so it was kind of ironic to be there with the Celtics covering their championship celebration.
03:43And it was a lot of fun.
03:45I was saying this to some people, but I feel like for the reporters, it was like kind of
03:49like a class field trip, like we were all just hanging out.
03:51There wasn't really that much reporting to do, like there wasn't that much media availability.
03:56We talked to Mike Zarin, one of the assistant general managers at the White House.
04:01And then we later had a Zoom where we spoke with Derek White, and then two of the Celtics
04:06owners, Wick Rosbeck and Steve Pagliuca.
04:09But it was a Zoom because it was kind of like logistically really complicated and difficult
04:13to figure out how to get the media to talk to the players and like to have a space for
04:17it because the White House had like other things going on as well, which you might imagine.
04:21So basically, they just told us we got like a very little information in the days leading
04:25up to it.
04:26I wasn't even sure if like for sure we were going to be credentialed to go or it was going
04:29to be one of those things that's like only some media members are credentialed.
04:33But they got back to us like the day before.
04:36I was going to be in DC regardless.
04:37So I was like, if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.
04:39And basically, we had to be there at 4.30 or the event started at 4.30.
04:43I was like, I'll just go two hours early just in case.
04:47And then I was there at 2.30.
04:50And because we didn't have like, I didn't have like my media pass.
04:53So I ended up just waiting outside for like hours.
04:55But it was really funny because every like 20 minutes, a different reporter would come
04:58in.
04:59And these are all like friends of mine, people that I've known for a long time now.
05:02And like a lot of them don't dress up.
05:03They don't usually wear like suit and tie.
05:04So it was funny to see everybody super decked out for the White House.
05:08And then after hours of waiting outside, like for really no good reason, I'm not even sure
05:12like what they're waiting for.
05:14Some like somebody came to get us and then we walked over and went to the Rose Garden.
05:20And it was just like so many Massachusetts politicians, so many politicians in general.
05:23I think like a lot of Celtics fans and people that just like live in DC that are were able
05:27to get credentialed.
05:28They cover politics or, you know, maybe they're a state legislator that wanted to meet them
05:32and be a part of the celebration.
05:33So it's a lot of people that I know from actually like my other job, just being in politics.
05:39And then, and then yeah, the ceremony was really quick.
05:42Joe Biden introduced the team, gave like a five minute speech.
05:46It was pretty uneventful.
05:48I was kind of reading people's body language trying to figure out if they were like getting
05:51a kick out of it, or if they were finding it kind of cringe, or like if they were doing
05:54it or whatnot, like it was hard to gauge.
05:56And then, yeah, that was kind of it.
05:58So it was like really brief.
05:59It was they, you know, Biden spoke and then Rick Rosbach spoke.
06:02And that was that, like no players spoke.
06:06I thought that at certain points, like guys were kind of cracking up.
06:09And so that was funny to see, like it was just, it seemed like they were getting a kick
06:14out of like maybe little, little moments there.
06:17And so, yeah, so that was fun.
06:20And I genuinely really enjoyed it.
06:22But it wasn't yeah, there wasn't anything like I'm trying to think of a favorite anecdote.
06:27Derek White told us later that Jalen was getting like, interested in like learning the history
06:32of the White House.
06:33And so Secret Service was like giving him a history lesson.
06:35And then Jalen talked about that after the fact and basically said like, yeah, it was
06:38really cool to be able to just learn that I love history.
06:42He said, you know, he just loved learning about the past and things.
06:45And so I think the players got to see the Oval Office.
06:47There was one funny line, Steve Pagliuca said, I believe, that Derek White was in the Oval
06:53Office and he was like kind of eyeing Joe Biden's seat.
06:55And then he wanted to sit down, but he looked like he was going to sit down at Joe Biden's
07:00seat, but he did not.
07:01So nobody really said that much about it, honestly, like every time they were asked
07:05any question about it, it was kind of just like, we want to, it was just a good thing
07:09to do as friends.
07:10Like I asked Jalen Brown if he thought it was like a political decision to go or not
07:13to go.
07:14Like just in general.
07:15I honestly, I don't know, I don't know people's individual political beliefs, but I think
07:19for him, for them, it was like, regardless of whether they like Biden or they like the
07:23president or the current administration, like it wasn't about that.
07:25It was just about going through the tradition and doing it as a team.
07:29And yeah, Jalen Brown would get a history tour from Secret Service, Derek White said
07:33he kind of tagged along.
07:35I thought Kristof Porzingis seemed really excited to be there.
07:38Like he was, he had like a huge grin on his face.
07:40He was cracking up a bunch.
07:42Luke Hornet also did, but I don't know, those are guys that are like always pretty expressive.
07:46So it's not necessarily that this specific visit was like where that came out.
07:51Like it's possible that that's just, that's just how they always are.
07:55So I'm trying to think like who looks really happy when they're at Celtics games, like
07:58Kristof Porzingis.
07:59And then yeah, Jason Tatum and Derek White, like gave Joe Biden his jersey.
08:06And then Al looked really like he was taking it really seriously.
08:08Like at one point, I'm sure you guys have seen this clip, but like Joe Biden called
08:11the Celtics the bulls.
08:12And I don't know if he did it on purpose or not.
08:14We were kind of debating that as in the media.
08:17Like some people were saying, obviously, I thought he was just misspoke and then he kind
08:19of laughed it off.
08:20But then some people thought he planned the joke.
08:22I don't know.
08:23But in any case, when that happened, and then Joe Biden was like the Celtics, right?
08:28Al Horford was like trying to like help him along.
08:30Like it looked like he was like, yes, the Celtics.
08:32So I think everyone had their own interpretation of it.
08:35But I guess the bottom line is that it really wasn't that eventful.
08:39Like it was, I'm glad I went, I've never been to the White House before.
08:42I want to cover the Celtics season.
08:44I go to everything.
08:45I go to practices, shoot arounds.
08:46It wasn't like for an event.
08:47It was just brief.
08:48It was simple.
08:49And then there was a lot of stuff behind the scenes that we didn't see, like they got a
08:51tour, there was a reception.
08:53But I think the most interesting point, I guess, about all this or the thing that stuck
08:57out to me is that it was clear that this is, this was not a priority of theirs.
09:03They didn't even really think that much about it beforehand.
09:05I think that there's banner night, opening night, that's like a big deal.
09:08Everybody's thinking about it all summer.
09:09You want to, you know, you envision that moment when you're competing for a championship.
09:12I don't think people are thinking like in the playoffs, like I can't wait for the White
09:16House visit.
09:17It's just not like the first thing people are thinking about.
09:18And so Wig Rosbeck said, like, we weren't really focused on this.
09:21We were focused on opening night.
09:23Joe wants us to like move on to the next thing.
09:24He doesn't want us to just, you know, stay in the past.
09:27But we did have a really good time and even Joe had a really good time.
09:29So I think it was one of those things that, you know, maybe they didn't, maybe they weren't
09:33like dying to go weeks before, but when they were actually there, they enjoyed it.
09:38And I think honestly, like Jalen had this funny answer.
09:40He said, like, I'd go to Waffle House with these guys, like, even if it is a political
09:43decision or not, like the bottom line is we'll do anything together.
09:46And so I think that's the main thing that I took away is just that they had fun just
09:50hanging out.
09:51And O'Shea Brissett was there.
09:52That was cool.
09:54I don't think anybody spoke with him.
09:55Maybe somebody did, but nothing's been reported yet.
09:58But O'Shea Brissett was there.
10:00He got his championship ring.
10:02He was not at opening night.
10:03I think he could have been.
10:04I think he was probably invited from what I understand, but he joined them for the White
10:09House visit.
10:10I'm sure we'll get a vlog about it.
10:12So there'll be some, maybe some cool behind the scenes things that we haven't seen yet
10:15that O'Shea will post.
10:17And he got, yeah, he got his ring.
10:19And then Joe Mazula said O'Shea Brissett is one of my favorite guys that I've ever coached.
10:23So this, people loved Brizzy, like Jalen Brown spoke about that.
10:28Guys were really happy to see him.
10:30Guys were really happy to reunite with him.
10:31I would almost say like that was one of the highlights for them of this trip.
10:35It seemed as just being reunited with him and he made it so that every single returning
10:39player from last year was there with the exception of Seema Hilick, who was on the
10:44Utah Jazz, who wasn't going to leave and join them.
10:47But he was the one guy that did not make it on the trip and he'll get his ring.
10:52Like I think they come to Boston in March.
10:54So it'll be a little bit, a little while before that happens.
10:59So yeah, that's the White House visit.
11:01I don't have too much more to say about it.
11:03I can say Derek White did a little zoom call with us.
11:06He talked about how good the apple cider was.
11:08Like he said, like I didn't, I had never met a president before.
11:11So it was kind of cool to just like see a president in person.
11:13I think he maybe got, maybe he was, maybe he was up there with like forcing us as far
11:16as guys that seemed really genuinely excited by the opportunity, by the chance to do it.
11:22Maybe they'll be back next year.
11:23Maybe they won't.
11:24We don't know.
11:25I don't know how, you know, how teams will treat it, but regardless, I think they're
11:29focused on the next thing.
11:30And I don't know if that was the White House visit was part of why they came out a little
11:34bit flat on Friday.
11:36They did come out flat last night and we can talk more about that.
11:39But in Jalen Brown said post game, like it's certainly possible that that had an impact
11:43on us.
11:44Maybe it was just a long day and it was just like an unusual day.
11:47A lot of standing around, you know, they, they don't, it wasn't like their normal off
11:50day.
11:51I'm sure people have kind of their routine and everything.
11:54So I think that's it on the White House visit, unless there are any other questions.
11:58I had a great time.
11:59Just I always have a great time going on these trips.
12:02You know, I was able to go now to the two Charlotte games, the New York game and the
12:06Wizards games.
12:07I'm trying to go to as many away games as possible and to be able to give you guys coverage
12:10and to be able to be around the team.
12:12I think when you're on the road, you can kind of pick things up and see things a lot more
12:16than at home sometimes, especially when there's not as much media.
12:19This trip had a lot of media because I think everybody wanted to go to the White House.
12:26And then, yeah, did it exceed my expectations?
12:28I think it met my expectations.
12:30I thought that there would be a little bit more going on, like from a media standpoint.
12:34But honestly, like sometimes it's nice to have less to cover.
12:36Like there's all, we already always have like so much happening.
12:39Like I felt like the night they won the championship, I wasn't able to fully enjoy it because I
12:43was like, there's a million interviews happening.
12:45There's guys I want to grab.
12:46There's press conferences.
12:47I want to post stuff.
12:48I want to write stuff.
12:49I want to video.
12:50Like usually there's like a lot going on and from, from like a coverage standpoint.
12:54And this was one of those rare events where I was like, I'm just, I'll just video this.
12:57I'll post it.
12:58I'll talk to the guys that we can talk to.
13:01But there wasn't like a lot happening.
13:02And the media was kind of like in a different area than the players and the politicians
13:07too.
13:08So we couldn't really just like interface with people as we pleased.
13:11Okay.
13:15I have not tried the Derek White beer, but it was funny to see him bring it to the podium
13:20after, what game was that?
13:23Probably the one against Cleveland and Jason Tatum had his Gatorade and Derek White had
13:28his Derek White Ale.
13:30So I have not tried it.
13:31It's really cool branding.
13:32I think it's super cool.
13:33Like I love when, I don't even want to say role players because I do think Derek White's
13:36a star at this point, or at least like somewhere close to that.
13:40But I love when guys in Boston, like the Boston guys, like get their like local brand endorsements.
13:45Like Marcus Martin had his, I think it's a lot of fun.
13:47This is not a small market.
13:49So it's cool when guys get to benefit from the fact that they're, you know, so beloved
13:52in the city.
13:53And Derek White, I don't, it's hard to rank like who's the most beloved players, but there
13:56is a crowd pop when he comes out for warmups that is distinct, that is different than any
14:01other player coming out.
14:02So at least the people that come early for Celtics games to watch guys warm up, they
14:06love Derek White.
14:07And just want to send a quick message from our friends over at Game Time.
14:14Game Time is a, my favorite ticketing app.
14:16I talk about it all the time, but it's the best way to, it's the best way to get tickets
14:21for anything, for concerts, sporting events.
14:23I mentioned tomorrow.
14:24Tomorrow's a great game.
14:25If you don't have any plans for your Sunday and you're thinking, you know, maybe I'll
14:28check out a Celtics Timberwolves game.
14:30It's an opportunity to see a lot of fun stars.
14:33I think those games were really good last year.
14:36Last time Timberwolves were in Boston and went into overtime and Tatum had that crazy
14:39performance in Minnesota as well.
14:41It was phenomenal game.
14:42So you can check out Game Time.
14:43It's the best way to get your, all your tickets.
14:47You can check, it's all in pricing, so you can toggle a feature, you can see the upfront
14:51cost.
14:52There's no surprise fees at checkout.
14:53So whatever price it says is the actual price that it is.
14:56And you have seat views.
14:57So whenever I buy someone Celtics tickets or any other events, you can actually see
15:01the panoramic view from your seat and the app before you buy.
15:04I like sitting like TV view.
15:06That's where the media seats usually are.
15:08Sometimes if I'm on the road, we get like corner views, but I think I just to be able
15:10to see everything, it's best to get TV view.
15:13So this way you can pick that way.
15:16Lowest price guarantee.
15:17You get Game Time ticket coverage.
15:19Your purchase is covered with the most flexible customer service policy in the ticketing industry.
15:23So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with Game Time Picks.
15:25Download the Game Time app, create an account, and use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
15:30Terms apply.
15:31Again, create an account and use code CLNS for $20 off.
15:35Download Game Time today.
15:36What time is it?
15:37Game time.
15:38Okay.
15:39So moving away from the White House visit and more towards maybe some of the other things
15:46that are front of mind for people, and in particular, I would imagine the on-court performance
15:50and just this most recent stretch of basketball because they're winning games, but they're
15:54not winning games in a way that I think people are like sufficiently satisfied by, and that's
15:59a privileged place to be.
16:00But I do understand it because there's been a lot of lackluster quarters and a lot of
16:05lackluster moments, and then they usually figure it out, figure out how to come out
16:09on top.
16:11So Mike here asks, I know the Celtics have been winning, but this team, this has been
16:14a bad of a stretch defensively, as I think we've seen over the last seven games or so.
16:20What's been your take on why they've struggled in that area?
16:26Mike continues, it's also weird because they're still a top 10 defense, but given how they've
16:29played versus the Wizards and Hawks and Nets, things have been a bit disturbing.
16:35So honestly, I think that there has been a lack of individual defense that has plagued
16:42this team a little bit.
16:44It's hard because you don't want to make excuses, but I do think just honing in on guys, everybody's
16:52playing a little bit worse on the defensive end than they were last year.
16:57And I think it's probably a focus thing.
16:59It is November.
17:00They are playing against teams that are significantly worse than them on paper and in every way.
17:06And it's just human nature.
17:08I was talking about this with a couple of the reporters of Press Row yesterday.
17:11You play a hundred games a year, like they play 82 games plus playoffs.
17:15It's literally almost a hundred games a year, if not more than that, preseason, maybe they
17:19have an in-season tournament cup game, like it could end up being even more.
17:23So as much as it's like, why can't you have it every single night?
17:26You can't because you're doing it every other day, and I do think when you're looking at
17:31your schedule and you have the Hawks, Raptors and Celtics and Wizards and Nets, like that's
17:37your stretch.
17:38I don't know that anybody's feeling super, super motivated and inspired, especially when
17:42they know they can turn it on.
17:44And we've seen that.
17:45I mean, the beginning of the Cleveland Cavaliers game, right from the jump, it was like, okay,
17:49this is a different defensive intensity than we've seen.
17:51And they said they didn't care about the 15-0 thing.
17:53They said they didn't care about the cup, or not they didn't care, but that wasn't going
17:55to be like a major change.
17:59And so, yeah, I think that's a part of it, is just like maybe overlooking opponents.
18:04It's a little bit of human nature.
18:06And then I guess a part of that also is the fact that these teams are really excited to
18:12play Boston.
18:13And so not only are you maybe overlooking them, but they're definitely not overlooking
18:17you.
18:18And this is their chance.
18:19Some of these teams get two games a year or four games a year where they're going to play
18:22the defending champs.
18:23And there's been this thing with Boston over the last few years, because they've been one
18:26of the best teams where there's always a little bit of a target on their back.
18:30It's a big market.
18:31There's a lot of stars.
18:32They've been close to winning before, but now they've actually done it.
18:36The Nuggets talked about it last year, just how hard it was to always be de-hunted.
18:42Every single night was like a battle for them.
18:44And it's a big reason why they were not able to get the number one seed and ultimately
18:48were not able to make the conference finals and repeat.
18:53The Celtics are experiencing that right now.
18:55Yeah, I completely agree, Greg.
18:58Other teams have been stepping up.
19:00Every team that...
19:01I've been watching these games through a different lens than I used to when I was just like,
19:04oh, all right, the Celtics are not beating these teams that are so much better.
19:07People are coming to play, and they're still finding ways.
19:10They're getting key stops and key moments.
19:12There's also the undeniable question right now in the center position, where I think
19:17Nimi had a really good start to his tenure with the Indiana Pacers game, where he was
19:21massive.
19:22He had a couple other really good games there, and he's kind of been the presumptive backup
19:26when they're missing, when they're down somebody.
19:28So when Al Horford was sick yesterday, Nimi started in his place.
19:32He's started a couple of games now.
19:33I would imagine maybe four or five.
19:37But I do think that in general, there's been some challenges with him.
19:45And so it's not even that he's playing bad defense, which he has made some defensive
19:49mistakes that we've seen time and again.
19:52But I think that with him, there is this element of other guys...
19:57He doesn't have that comfort and familiarity with other guys as well, where Al Horford
20:00does.
20:01He might do something other people might not know to expect it.
20:05It's just been a lot more miscommunications than we're used to.
20:08So I'm not worried about the defense in the long term.
20:10I think Przingis is going to really help, for sure, when he's in there.
20:15And also Al playing more extended minutes.
20:17But it is an individual defense.
20:18If you look at Jalen Brown defensively versus last year, I think that he had a better defensive
20:22season last year than he's having so far right now.
20:25I think you could go down the line and find a lot of those guys.
20:27And it's not a reflection on what they're capable of or what I expect from them in a
20:30few months.
20:31But yeah, that is what I've noticed so far, at least.
20:38And then last night's game, I thought they came out really flat, but also the Wizards
20:41were playing good.
20:43And then there was this moment in the third quarter where Joe Mazzulla got a technical
20:47foul.
20:49And he got the technical, and then even after getting the technical foul, he was being held
20:54back by Tony Dobbins, who's one of the Celtics' assistant coaches, who I feel like the only
20:59time you ever really see him on the court during these games is when Joe Mazzulla is
21:05being held back from arguing with the refs.
21:08The call came after Jalen Brown, I believe, drove to the basket, didn't get a call, was
21:12fouled, but it wasn't called.
21:17And then Joe was really pissed off about it, was yelling, screaming, and then was being
21:21held back on attack.
21:22I thought he was going to get ejected, honestly.
21:23It almost looks like he wanted to get ejected.
21:24I don't want to be presumptive there, but that's what I was thinking when I was watching
21:28it.
21:29And then, yeah, Bobby asked him about it post-game, and Joe said it changed the momentum,
21:35it changed the environment.
21:36I mean, manipulating the environment was the exact term, but could you feel that?
21:39And we were kind of joking around about it after the game on the garden report.
21:42But honestly, I did feel a shift when Joe got his tack, and it's something that he's
21:47talked about both for himself and for the players, that it's not just arguing with refs
21:51and his view is not just inherently bad.
21:53I think it's about when you do it, how you do it, picking your spots, doing it strategically,
21:58and you can actually leverage arguing with the refs in a way that can benefit your team.
22:04He's been open about it.
22:05Honestly, I'm surprised that he talks about it, but he has.
22:08And so I don't know if it's true, I don't know if it's real.
22:12I do think that sometimes they get makeup calls, or after he has one of those outbursts
22:16and I realize, okay, the thing that he was mad about, he gets a few whistles in that
22:19direction.
22:20I mean, everybody knows about makeup calls, but yeah, it would have been funny.
22:25It was funny to see.
22:26And it was one of those moments where it was just like, you know, we've seen it a couple
22:29of times that we had one of those in Charlotte, he's had a few of those on the road.
22:32And I don't really know exactly what the mindset is there, if there's more to it, if he's really
22:42that mad.
22:43I mean, I think he's so in control of himself, I don't think he's actually that mad.
22:46But yeah, Tony Dobbins has assumed the role.
22:49And I'm always whenever I see it, I always pull my camera so everybody can see the video
22:52because I don't know if they can't, you know, the TV view sometimes doesn't stay on the
22:55situation that is unfolding, or like they go back and forth a bunch of different things.
22:58So whenever there's scenes like that, I try to make sure that I have like the footage
23:01of it.
23:02So in case it's interesting to people or something interesting happens, I usually post it right
23:05away just in case it wasn't on the TV view.
23:07And I never know it's on the TV because I don't you know, I'm not, I'm very rarely watching
23:11the broadcast.
23:12Um, but yeah, it helped me yesterday, they had a great fourth quarter, the big takeaway
23:17from the fourth quarter, I thought was just the fact that Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, were
23:23kind of started hitting some big shots that weren't three pointers, hadn't they had an
23:27abysmal shooting night, collectively as a team, particularly the starters, in particular
23:32Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown, Tatum was over 10, Jalen, I think was three for 13 or 14.
23:38And a lot of them were good shots, a few of them were a little awkward shots.
23:41But in reality, I think just in general, like, they were off and then in the fourth quarter,
23:47they just moved away from the three point line and got some shots to go there were mid
23:51range shots to drive to the basket.
23:53And it does make you feel like okay, if you've done those earlier, like it would have gotten
23:56them in rhythm earlier, maybe would have even helped them make some more some of those threes
24:00like just see the ball going through the basket.
24:01But I think more than anything, when they realized they needed to, they needed to find
24:04a different shot profile, they were able to do that.
24:07And so that definitely stood out to me.
24:10And they ended up winning the game by 12 and point differential matters and then be a cup.
24:14So they got 12 point when I to this moment, I have no idea why the Washington Wizards
24:19were fouling.
24:20At the end of that game when they also are playing for point differential slash just
24:24like the game was out of reach.
24:26I genuinely don't understand it.
24:28So yeah, it was it was very confusing to me, but it was helping the Celtics because a they're
24:33all padding their individual stats, but also, more importantly, they were padding their,
24:37their, you know, lead in that game, and they ended up winning by 12, which was their largest
24:41leader that night.
24:42It was actually funny.
24:43I was sitting with Gary Thompson of Boston.com and I'd asked him like in the third quarter
24:46was your prediction for how much they're gonna win by and he said 12 and then it was on looking
24:50like that was gonna happen.
24:51And then with all the free throws ended up being exactly 12.
24:53So they helped him for his imaginary parlay that was not set.
24:58So actually, that's a good segue for a quick message from our friends over at prize picks.
25:07Prize picks is kind of the most fun way I think that you can get real money on, you
25:12know, on sports action with over 10 million members and billions of dollars in awarded

25:39Prize picks is the best way to get on action on sports for over 30 states, including California,
25:42Florida, Georgia and Texas.
25:44Prize picks is the only real money daily fantasy platform with an injury insurance policy so
25:47that your lineup stays in play.
25:49Even if one of your players gets injured.
25:52It's been interesting.
25:53I don't want to jinx them.
25:54But there's been so many injuries around the league.
25:56I feel like every time I get a notification, it's just been an injury thing.
25:58So this is another way to protect at least your prize picks can't protect players, unfortunately.

26:19Okay, I'll do a couple more questions here and then we'll wrap up.
26:24Appreciate those of you for tuning in on a Saturday night for Celtics off night.
26:27I know that it's a busy schedule here.
26:29There's a lot going on other NBA games.
26:31So I do appreciate those of you that decided to spend 30 minutes of your night tuning into
26:36this and getting your questions answered.
26:39And I'll be I'll be going most off days.
26:41Sometimes if I'm in transit or whatnot, I'm not always able to go but got back today figured
26:47I would go clean up all day went to the gym.
26:49I was like, I'll go live.
26:50I'll answer some questions.
26:52So let's do Tom question about JB's playmaking.
26:57I think that I think that he's continued to improve.
26:59Let me actually look up his exact numbers.
27:01I used to not be able to look things up during this because my computer was so bad, but I
27:05have a new computer now.
27:09Jalen Brown this season is averaging 4.4 assists last year 3.6 assists 4.4 is a career high
27:15for him.
27:16I don't want to say like that that number perfectly captures what like what is playmaking
27:24is like I do think a lot of times there's potential assist a lot of times, you know,
27:27just making the right read.
27:28But I do think that he's gotten better as a playmaker.
27:31Both him and Jason Tatum have really stood out to me from a playmaking standpoint and
27:36Tatum down the stretch like in the clutch.
27:37He's been so good.
27:38I think it's something that's not only started in the playoffs, but really took off in the
27:42playoffs.
27:43So that's been fun to watch.
27:49I do think Tatum is going to get a triple double this season.
27:51I have to say like to his credit.
27:54This is it.
27:55I don't mind if people do sad pad a little bit like Donovan Mitchell the other night
27:58got almost like lost the Cavs a game because he was trying to get an assist and he apologized
28:05postgame.
28:06He was like, I really wanted to get my first career triple double and he didn't Tatum.
28:11And that's not even a shot.
28:12I thought that was funny.
28:13A funny thing to admit, but Tatum has been really close to triple doubles so many times
28:20this season, but he is not looking at it like he's really not trying to get to get one.
28:26If he's two rebounds short, there was, I forget which game, but a game a week or two
28:29ago, like he was one rebound short and then Joe subbed him out with two minutes to play.
28:34And he asked him, do you want to come out?
28:35And he was like, sure.
28:36Like, Hey, I don't think he cared.
28:38And so he's not hunting them.
28:39And a couple of times when he's been close, even last night, I think he was close.
28:44He's not going for it, but inevitably it's going to happen just naturally because he's,
28:47he's just been such a playmaker.
28:48He, we already know he's a prolific rebounder.
28:51Scoring's always going to be double digits for the most part.
28:53So it's just, you know, the 10 assist night is the most elusive thing to get the double
28:57digit rebounds.
28:58I think he gets very frequently.
28:59But he's, he's going to get it this season for sure.
29:02And I do think, yeah, there's the shades of LeBron in this passing, like there's, I don't
29:08want to like, I don't want to overhype it, but I do think that he's made a massive leap
29:11on that.
29:12And, and it's probably the thing that stands out most over, you know, in his improvement
29:16over the last like year or so.
29:17And I think in the playoffs, it was like one of the top reasons why the Celtics were able
29:21to win the championship was just how much he improved as a playmaker, how much he was
29:25able to handle doubles, hedges, whatever it is.
29:28So yeah, and I do agree, Greg here writes, I think the Celtics were sharper coming out
29:33of camp.
29:34I do agree on that.
29:36They were really sharp at the beginning and they, I think there was like some, a lull.
29:40The lull was really like this most recent stretch starting with Toronto, Brooklyn, Atlanta.
29:47Yeah, that, that was a tough stretch there.
29:51You have, you know, you're playing four, like of the worst teams in the league.
29:55Only the Hawks haven't been that bad.
29:59And I think it's a mindset thing.
30:01Like I'm looking forward to them having a string of, you know, going on the West Coast
30:03road trip, playing some really good teams in a row, because I think they're going to
30:07just, you're going to see that they elevate their intensity level.
30:10But we'll see, just because you win a championship once doesn't mean you're going to do it again.
30:13We know that.
30:14So I don't want to say, you know, I have unwavering faith right now, because I have no reason
30:18not to.
30:19I think Porzingis coming back is going to give them a little bit of a jolt.
30:22And then more, you know, also just having higher profile games.
30:27The NBA cup is not something that I'm personally that into, like I'm trying to get there because
30:31it's a part of it, but I don't know what it is.
30:33I don't know if it's the fact that you're alternating cup games with non cup games and
30:36it just feels like, I don't know, just this loses momentum a little bit.
30:41Like yesterday was a cup game, tomorrow is not.
30:43But I'm not obsessed with the NBA cup.
30:46That being said, I would love for them to see NBA cup success and go to Vegas and play
30:51those games because we want to see them play meaningful basketball with consequence.
30:54And this is one of those opportunities to do that, to do so.
30:57So we'll see.
30:58And yeah, like the flip the switch thing, you don't want to rely on that too much.
31:04But you've already seen that they, you've already seen that they can do it.
31:08And that's kind of what I'm referring to.
31:10I'll do a couple more questions here.
31:13Is there a chance that Porzingis comes back by the next Cavs game in early December?
31:16I think that's in two weeks, or maybe even less, I think that might be in a week.
31:20So I don't think he's going to come back in the next week or two.
31:23Let me just pull up my calendar here.
31:29So the Cavs game is December 1st.
31:31That's in eight days.
31:32I don't think he'll be back by then, but I would not be surprised if he was back in time
31:36for like the Christmas games.
31:40That's like the week of the ninth, that stretch.
31:43I think I would guess he's like two weeks away.
31:45Again, he's scrimmaged, so he's playing basketball.
31:54And then yeah, this is a good question from Ben, because I think they have to hang the
31:58banner from my understanding.
32:00But it's like nobody wants or like the average Boston fan doesn't want the Celtics to hang
32:05an in-season tournament banner with all the championship banners and the retired jerseys.
32:09So they'll hang it if the Lakers hung it, but I wonder if there's like a more discreet
32:13place or like some way where you can hang it, but also indicate like you don't really
32:16want to.
32:18So we shall see.
32:21Derek White, is he going to get a triple-double?
32:26He's less likely to than Tatum, because I don't think the rebounding is oftentimes in
32:30double digits.
32:32And this, yeah, probably, maybe, maybe.
32:36I don't look at everybody's like game logs here, just thinking off the top of my head.
32:39I feel like Tatum has been flirting with them.
32:40I don't remember Derek coming close.
32:43Okay, I think this is going to be my last question, J.D. Davison, J.D. Davison, can
32:51he become a future replacement for our aging guards together with Pritchard?
32:56That's a great question.
33:00I would love to see that happen.
33:02He is absolutely dominating the G League right now.
33:04I know a lot of people don't watch the G League because there's already a million NBA games
33:09to watch and it's hard to keep up.
33:11That being said, if you do want to tune in to a main Celtics game, they're a lot of fun
33:17to watch.
33:18You can see Baylor Shireman, who is the Celtics first-round draft pick this year, first first-round
33:22pick in a minute.
33:23You can see Anton Watson, Drew Peterson, one of the two-way players, he's been with them
33:27for a bit.
33:28And then J.D. Davison is really the star of the show.
33:30He had 36 points, 11 assists the other night.
33:32He's been the best playmaker in the G League so far, one of the best scorers.
33:37He's really an electric player, has just figured out the game.
33:40He's just, you know when they say Jason Tatum just figured out the game, Jalen Brown figured
33:44it out.
33:45He has mastered the game in the G League, and I know that's different than mastering the
33:49game on the Boston Celtics, but there's not a lot of players that play like him.
33:53He elevates everybody around him, he knows how to get his, his shots look a lot smoother
33:56this year.
33:58Can he become a future replacement?
34:01I really don't know, because honestly he just hasn't played at the NBA level, so I don't
34:04want to say yes or no, but I'm going to, I'm going to lean yes.
34:08I am a believer in J.D. I think he's really, really close.
34:11I asked Tyler Lashbrook, the main Celtics coach, about whether he, what's kind of holding
34:16him back, and he said he's so close to being there.
34:18So I think it's a matter of opportunity, becoming an even better three-point shooter, because
34:22that's really, like, every NBA guard has to be a three-point shooter at this point, like
34:26you really cannot be.
34:28And then defensively, like, I think that, you know, he's going to have some similar
34:32limitations to Pritchard.
34:33He's not the defender that Pritchard is, so that's the big outstanding question.
34:36So next time I go to Maine, and I'll be, I'll be there soon, but the main thing that I'm
34:40going to lock into is his defense, and I'll come back with a report from just watching
34:44that, because I think that's the thing that's kind of holding him back.
34:47If anything is, the environment is awesome.
34:50I love going to the Portland Expo.
34:52I would go more if I could, like, last night I would have gone, but I was in D.C.
34:56Tomorrow I would go, but I'm going to be at TD Garden, so a lot of times it overlaps with
35:00games.
35:01They didn't overlap, so there's an opportunity to go, if you're living in England and you
35:05want to go to a cheap, a cheap Celtics game, but you can't get to TD Garden, or you don't
35:09want to spend $100, you can go in game time.
35:11You can get Maine Celtics tickets for, like, a lot of times $20, and you can, they're all
35:16really good seats, great environment, great atmosphere.
35:20So with that, I'm going to wrap it up here.
35:22Thank you all so much for tuning in.
35:23It's been a lot of fun answering your questions and just sharing a little bit more about the
35:27trip to D.C.
35:28If there's anything else that you have questions about, feel free to put them in the comments
35:31section on YouTube.
35:32Don't forget to subscribe to CLNS Media, to CLNS All Access, and to my YouTube channel,
35:37You at Boston, where you can see all these episodes.
35:40I'm trying to go live at least twice a week, if not more, depending on the schedule.
35:44So I'll be on live tomorrow with the Garden Report after the Minnesota Timberwolves take
35:49the Celtics at TD Garden, and then we have Monday night again.
35:53So who do they play Monday?
35:54They play the Clippers.
35:55So we have two fun games here.
35:56Two good Western Conference opponents at TD Garden, and they won't flip the court in between,
36:01which is always fun for our post-game work session.
36:02So thanks, everyone.
36:04Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
36:05Enjoy your Saturday night, your Sunday, and I will see you all next time.
