00:00I know, I know you go through this all the time, but you're now a celebrity dog and along with the territory, you got a post lah, kan?
00:10Huh, Rusty boy?
00:17Nick Ahmad Huzlan Nick Hussain, fondly known as Captain Nick, was a former chief pilot with Malaysia Airlines.
00:25He once flew airplanes with a well-dressed cabin crew.
00:29These days, he operates ATV Janda Bai at Rimba Valley Motor Campsite with a crew of dogs and cats.
00:38I was ambivalent. I, you know, okay dogs, don't be, don't be, don't be bad. They are irrelevant in my life.
00:46Of course, I've seen Rin Tin Tin, I've seen Lassie, Disney movies about dogs and it's very nice, but that's as far as it went.
00:55Staying in Petaling Jaya, we have dogs that we didn't like because the owners let them bark and bark.
01:00But Rusty, a skinny stray dog who showed up at the campsite one day, completely changed Captain Nick's perception of canines.
01:09Although Rusty was initially wary of humans, he learned to let his guard down after experiencing love and kindness from Captain Nick and his wife.
01:20And the level of appreciation when you give them love is just amazing.
01:24The sounds they make, you know, when you start petting them, so they turn on their tummy, want to tummy rub.
01:31Stuff like that is totally new to a Malay person.
01:35How would I know you look so nice?
01:37Used to be a scrawny mongrel, suspicious of people, and now you bring joy and love to this place. Why?
01:45See, all your dogs, they don't fight with the cats. All the cats, they don't fight with the dogs.
01:50They all live in harmony. Something that we need, our country.
01:53Dogs and cats can live together, apart from all the multicultural races in Malaysia, right?
01:58Shouldn't be a problem there. Right, Rusty? Good boy.
02:02Good boy.
02:04Very little life left, you know, we're counting the years.
02:07Still got 8, 11 years probably. He's about 8 years.
02:11So it's going to be different when eventually everything comes to an end.
02:16After Rusty, other stray dogs and cats started showing up, and they now live as one big happy family.
02:23So I have girls with two dogs coming here doing selfies.
02:27You know, so what I see is this, with Rusty and my dogs around, those who come here not liking dogs end up okay with dogs.
02:37Apart from bringing joy to humans, the canines also keep the premises safe from wild boars and snakes.
02:44Still, for hygiene purposes, Captain Nick shares that there are certain areas that the dogs are prohibited from entering, such as their house.
02:53And then when we say, okay, this place, dogs cannot go in.
02:56Yalla, this Muslim country, like that.
02:58They never realise that if you go to the US, beaches don't allow dogs.
03:01They have nothing to do with Islam.
03:03Parks don't allow dogs.
03:05If they work and they care for you, I don't think there's any religion that tells you not to repay this gratitude.
03:14Surely not.
03:16Islam is a religion of a billion, more than a billion people.
03:21It's a religion that makes no sense.
03:25Part of it is the softness, the soft side of Islam.
03:28All that is hurting.
03:30It does not make sense for you not to be nice to something that's taking care of you, that's devoted to your well-being.
03:37Ugly before, handsome now.
03:40So, adopt an ugly one.
03:42Watch them grow beautiful and watch them love.
03:47So you will love them back.
03:49Doggies.
03:51A new era in my life.
