00:00Ever heard of lino pot?
00:03For most West Malaysians, it might sound foreign, but for Sabahans, this kadazan dusun dish
00:10is likely to trigger memories of warm, savoury rice cooked by a loving grandmother.
00:16Sadly, eateries that serve lino pot in the Klang Valley are hard to come by.
00:23Now, one Sabahan is stepping up to the stove to share her delicious lino pot.
00:30A car salesperson by day, Rano native Cassandra Jarlius spends much of her time mothering
00:37her six cats.
00:38She also runs a side business where she cooks up a storm in her kitchen.
00:44From her Petaling Jaya home, she delivers lino pot throughout the Klang Valley and beyond.
00:50As it turns out, there is plenty of demand for the dish from Sabahans who live throughout
00:56the peninsula.
00:58But what is lino pot?
01:00Like nasi lemak and Chinese rice dumplings, it consists of steamed rice wrapped in a leaf,
01:06often served with a variety of traditional Sabahan dishes.
01:11Instead of white rice, Cassandra makes hers with hill patty instead.
01:16Why do I learn to cook?
01:18I love eating Sabahan food.
01:22I love eating lino pot.
01:25And also, I want to introduce lino pot to people in West Malaysia.
01:33Her lino pot is based on recipes passed down by her mother and grandmother and brings back
01:39cherished memories of Rano.
01:41When I was young, we always bring lino pot to go to our farm and also even we go to sungai
01:49for picnic, we also bring the nasi lah.
01:53It's easy to bring because you don't have to bring container.
01:57You just bring the nasi itself and you can bring like ikan masin, canned food and you
02:02can eat already.
02:04During the pandemic, Cassandra found herself missing lino pot but was not able to travel
02:09home.
02:10Unable to find any in the Klang Valley that met her standards, she decided to make it
02:16herself.
02:18One thing led to another and Cassandra realized there was an opportunity to be had in selling
02:24lino pot.
02:26That said, it's not an easy dish to make as some of the ingredients are only found
02:31in Sabah.
02:33And will Cassandra be among those to open a restaurant someday?
02:37Yeah, one day.
02:40But not right now.
02:43And that was Kami Lino Pot by Cassandra.
