00:04DC multiverse the McFarland collectors edition new 52 huntress
00:31a crossbow wielding urban warrior and a core member of the birds of prey the
00:38hunters takes aim against crime in the dark heart of the city caught in a
00:42struggle between her rage and a role as a superhero hunters has come to
00:45represent the darker shades of gray in Gotham let's first get things underway
00:49by grabbing the tape measure and seeing how tall the new 5200 stands courtesy of
00:54the folks over at McFarland toys speaking of which I'd like to thank
00:57McFarland toys for providing the sample we can have a look at here the hunters
01:01is gonna stand at roughly 7 inches in heights or she's gonna be roughly about
01:0517 and a half centimeters tall depending on which huntress you follow it could
01:09either be Helena Wayne or Helena Bertinelli in the new 52 Helena
01:13Bertinelli would have already died and Wayne took would have taken up the
01:16mantle I assumed the figure was based on Wayne but the card tells otherwise
01:20that's why at the beginning I said that she was part of gonna be turned into a
01:23fury courtesy of decide if you're going with that logic then she would have then
01:27been the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Catwoman featured here by figures we
01:30got from the Nightfall line she's a little bit taller than Nightfall Catwoman
01:34she isn't though as tall as bats while we're also talking about Nightfall let's
01:38also get the chance to bring in the Bane boy that's a nice-looking Bane here's
01:42also what she looks like with Batgirl this was the Batgirl from the three
01:45Joker's line and speaking of a Joker here's what the figure looks like with
01:48the new frontier Joker yeah so a little bit of confusion when it comes to
01:51huntresses card the card itself no confusing at all that's a pretty cool
01:54looking artwork featured on the front and if you have the light hitting it
01:57just right it says McFarlane collector edition on the side I was expecting it
02:01to read Helena Wayne and while it still features Helena it's Helena Bertinelli
02:05instead Bertinelli as far as I know died long ago in the new 52 it's sort of a
02:10confusing thing with huntress as well three characters have picked up the name
02:13of huntress over the years and even then with the Helena Wayne being no longer
02:17depicted as the future daughter of Batman and Catwoman they sort of all
02:20kind of corrected everything with post-crisis on infinite earths so again
02:24like we have Helena Bertinelli if again this is gonna be new 52 I would have
02:27stuck with Wayne instead the read up is very small and easy to read making
02:31mention more of the fact that she's a member of bird of prey a nice-looking
02:34card overall whether it's confusing or not gonna move that off to the side the
02:37figure does also come in clear with a display stand display stand gets the
02:41polished treatment of now having a silver DC logo down below but the shape
02:45of the stand and the placement of the peg is exactly the same it's right over
02:48here right where my thumb is tap tap tapping away let's move that off to the
02:53side the figure of hunters also does come include some swappable hands now
02:57like right now she does have some hands that have trigger firing fingers on the
03:00ends if you want to have close fists instead she got you covered they have
03:04that as well these hands can easily then be swapped out with the hands that she
03:07has you just pop those hands off the forms and swap them out instead you want
03:11some dynamic hands instead Todd's got you covered you also get those as well
03:14now if you want to change out the hands it's simply just easy enough to talk
03:18about but let's get to doing some of that stuff just gonna take the hands
03:22gonna remove them simply from the peg I feel like they've really started to
03:25streamline these DC multiverse figures let's go ahead and just first of all
03:28grab the right hand plug that in place there you go very easy to remove and
03:31change the hands out the thing I really think it's cool and I'm starting to see
03:35that now with a lot of the new DC multiverse releases instead of giving us
03:38swappable heads now the thing about swappable heads if I can get her stand
03:42it's fun and good to include them but obviously you're gonna have to then
03:45include additional packing material because now you're gonna have large
03:48sized heads that's gonna increase of course the cost of productions instead
03:52what they've done is so much simpler she has literally one head and then she has
03:56multiple face plates as again I've seen this done a couple of times now with now
04:00future DC multiverse releases some of the Green Lanterns for example I've had
04:04swappable face plates I don't know if necessarily Huntress is the first figure
04:07that's done this but she does it really well before we gonna get down to looking
04:11at removing her faces that's kind of a bit of a gory idea the figure does also
04:15come include the crossbow the crossbow I would have liked if they could have
04:19added just a little bit of paint I mean truth be told it's only just molded here
04:22all in black plastic I suppose it does get the job done because we also only
04:25have now one trigger hand let's go ahead and just put that in that hand and it
04:29holds it okay I don't think I mean you could look at the handle and say that
04:32that's a pretty thick large sized weapon handle handle but I think it does the
04:36job fine yeah it would have been a little bit nice if they include just a
04:40little bit of paint to it but overall it's a nice-looking crossbow and this
04:44whole time I'm just putting the figure back hoping she's gonna balance she does
04:47come in clue with like I said instead of full-size swappable heads they did the
04:51next better thing simpler thing and more cost-effective thing they had with
04:55swappable face plates instead little jarring you probably may have noticed at
04:59the beginning of this review that the figure didn't have the face on her head
05:02it actually came off in the packaging and it was rattling around so even when
05:06I first got the box I'm looking at them like what's wrong with this figures face
05:09then I realized that huntress's face was floating around the bottom of the
05:13box very easy to swap out the heads first of all just before we do that
05:17though let's just take the crossbow out of her hand and get a closer look at
05:19defaulted huntress's head it's a pretty likeness of huntress whether you go with
05:23Bertinelli or Wayne I like the way they've sculpted of course the purple
05:27mask it blends nicely enough to the hair now there are a few little areas like
05:31the front of the bangs for example you can see it's a little bit of a darker
05:34black than all the hair behind it this is a trend that does continue when we
05:38look at this head sculpt and you'll see what I mean in a second but I'm not
05:42disappointed at all I think the head sculpt is really nicely done on this one
05:45now if you like this look with sort of the Hawkeye ears on the side she does
05:50come with also this alternate face plate here so odd for me to say face plate and
05:54talk about Todd McFarlane's toys you can see though that the face plate if I
05:58actually don't drop it on the floor there we go just dropped it if you look
06:03at the face plate there are very similar features between the two I couldn't have
06:07noticed though that the skin tone is a little bit more redder on this one than
06:10on this one here she does have now a face smile instead of actually just the
06:14defaulted face very similar though changing out the heads it's just super
06:18easy though instead of having a yank the whole thing off the body all you do is
06:22just take the front of the face and just peel it right off this was probably the
06:25thing that was greeting you at the beginning of this review and you're like
06:27what is that monstrosity I was kind of thinking the same thing all it really is
06:31it's just the peg on the back of the face and that just plugs into the hole
06:34super super easy you can't really do that with all figures I'm sure there's
06:39some that probably wouldn't be able to pull that off but really when you look
06:42at something like this the huntresses outline basically the part that you're
06:45peeling off for the face just really outlines the contours of the mask so
06:49it's easy to kind of get a more seamless look to the face so you take the peg you
06:53take the hole and you line up the two simple shapes got simple shapes plug
06:56that in place and now you got a smiling expression of huntress instead this is
07:00where we left this is where we've gone to you can see the differences between
07:03the two still again like you'll see that the black isn't quite the same
07:08black for the rest of the hair but it becomes more noticeable when you use
07:11this alternate head sculpt which has the more streamer lined looking mask that it
07:16really is only covering the front of her face as opposed to parts that stick out
07:19the sides when you go to change this face plate off just pop that off replace
07:24it with this one seem to be all thumbs in this review pop that in place you can
07:30probably see a little more of that here it doesn't really align as well make
07:35sure of course I got that all the way on there doesn't align as well you can see
07:38a lot more of the shinier black on the front and a little more of the matte
07:41black on the back it's pretty close but there's just enough of the difference
07:45that you can see you can spot it a little bit more of a darker black I like
07:50this face sculpt but I think if given the choice I probably will end up going
07:53going back to this one of my favorite of the three you want to do that right now
07:58okay we'll leave it we'll leave it that's the rest of the body of Huntress
08:02here a female body but I'm trying to place exactly which female body this is
08:06now I'm gonna bring in a couple of figures now bringing back in Catwoman I
08:09was thinking that maybe they may have used some of Catwoman's bodies or some
08:12of Batgirl's bodies but I think the only thing I can really look at and see that
08:16there might be some similar features is the top of the torso the arms are
08:20different the legs are also something that's very different between the two so
08:24I'm sure they probably have retooled brand-new body parts like the legs like
08:29the arms maybe the torso is the same as well the one we got with Batgirl it
08:32looks to be very similar obviously one of the new included features is the fact
08:36that this figure does have a cloth cape I was kind of on the fence before of
08:40what I felt when it came to cloth capes I kind of like the idea of plastic case
08:43myself just for for the fact that all the original figures had them but I'm
08:47really warming the idea to the up idea up to the idea that they're now giving
08:51us cloth capes instead there's a wire frame that runs here all the way down to
08:55the bottom of the point this middle section doesn't have a wire frame so the
08:59thing at least that's good about this is that down here it has a natural drape
09:03with it only being on the sides you can then obviously contour the cape for your
09:07liking so if you want to have it look like it's being blown in the wind you
09:09can do that and you can straighten them out it's a cape that doesn't occupy a
09:13whole lot of space and doesn't compete with the body it's not like one of those
09:16overly large capes perhaps like when we looked at Cassandra Cain's Batgirl for
09:19example I thought the cape was a little too big this is just the right size for
09:23Huntress the colors are pretty close to like if you're looking at the stripe for
09:26the white it's obviously brighter than the cross that we have on the front of
09:30her body but it's close enough you know maybe they could have made that just a
09:33little bit brighter she also does have a stripe down the side of her leg as well
09:36I think the colors are pretty good on her things that clearly you can see like
09:40the molded plastic for the hands don't quite match the coloring of the painted
09:44purple that they use for the top of the gloves it's about the only other thing
09:48that obviously some of the paint isn't gonna quite 100% match but I think the
09:51purple that they chose is nicely is a nice purple she does have the high heels
09:55so one of the problems though with high heeled figures and this is also one of
09:58the problems with a Catwoman that we got from Nightfall is she has a little less
10:01of a footprint space obviously if you want to just have her standing on her
10:04own that's probably why a couple of times when I had at the beginning this
10:07review you kind of have to find that sweet spot to get her bouncing just
10:11right it's almost like the figure does need a display stand for the figures
10:16articulation going back to hunters his head the heads gonna be on a ball joint
10:19I was really expecting with the way that the hair was sculpted there was gonna be
10:23a lot more competing this to get the head to rotate all the way around yet
10:27you can see that maybe they've done this deliberately you can see that they've
10:31curved the hair up like this and maybe they've done that so I just dropped the
10:35face I knew that was gonna happen let's make sure we just plug the face all the
10:39way in here I was thinking though like with the hair sculpted like this I
10:43wouldn't be able to rotate it all the way around but with the way they've
10:46lifted it just with a little bit of space like this it seems to be just
10:49enough that you can rotate the head all the way around sometimes though it does
10:52pop off the face like it just did right now the upper torso is gonna be on a
10:55ball joint the lower abdomen is also on a ball joint and she does also have
11:00hinges in her arms now I initially thought that the shoulder pads were
11:03gonna be getting in the way but you can actually see the shoulder pads are
11:06attached here and not here so you can still bring the arms out at 90 degrees
11:10of course you can move them forward and move them back all the same things you'd
11:14expect to see with DC multiverse figures so the swivel in her bicep double hinge
11:18on her elbow and hands rotate all the way around I like to split the belts the
11:23way they've designed them as well I mean the belt seems to be like a separate
11:26piece instead of having to retool all the lower end of her body as a brand new
11:31tool instead all they really need to do was sculpt this piece and then just
11:35adhere to the lower half of her body so they can get the most mileage out of
11:37these molds legs do split out the one thing about though Huntress is that
11:42she's contoured fairly well to the back of her body
11:46however though if you take the legs and you move them forward she does have sort
11:52of a bit of a disjointedness and you can probably see it a lot more when you're
11:55looking at from the front I'm sure no person is probably gonna display the
11:58figure like this maybe you are maybe you aren't I don't know but if you move the
12:02figures legs out even especially you can see it develops a bit of a bulge
12:06underneath just because again like they wanted to make this contoured as well
12:09as they could but when you move the legs out sometimes like even I had her at the
12:13beginning of this review sort of with her legs bent like this it does add for
12:17a little bit more awkwardness at the tops of her thighs just really no way
12:20around that I guess she has hinges though at the tops of her thighs that
12:23allows the legs to split about that far of course you can move them forward you
12:26can move them back there's a mild mild swivel at the top of the thigh double
12:30hinge on the knee no articulation here for the boots but there is at least an
12:34ankle articulation you can move it up and down this way you can also rock it
12:37back and forth as well and the figure does have surprised I was why I don't
12:41know you know why the figure necessarily needs toe articulation for what little
12:45of a toe she actually does get I don't think it really necessarily needed it
12:49but that that's part of the that's part of the marketing cell like all these
12:52figures have toe articulation whether she has such a small footprint or not
12:56huntress does get that as well the really neat thing about this huntress is
13:00the fact that yeah again instead of from a cost-saving standpoint so much easier
13:04and more cost savings for Todd and his team just simply just sculpt three face
13:08plates rather than having three full-sized heads as a collector it makes
13:12things a whole lot easier as well because you're not having to yank the
13:15head off providing of course the hair is gonna not change between the two face
13:19expressions then you can easily get away with the idea that the figure could use
13:22the same head and just simply change out the faces periodically though as you
13:26probably saw in this review you may inadvertently pop off the face plate
13:29just comes with the territory but I like the idea that they're doing this and
13:32they seem to be doing a lot more with some of their recent releases kind of
13:35ironic that three different characters have picked up the mantle of the
13:38hunters and yet with this release of McFarlane toys the huntress comes in
13:42clue with three swappable face plates it's one of two really good ideas that
13:45went into this character instead of having to produce the cost of three
13:49separate head sculpts we know that that's going to be more expensive for
13:53the company to produce if they can get away with it and they have the same
13:56same hairstyle really for all the three characters having swappable face plates
14:00it's one of those ideas that you look at it and you think well why wouldn't any
14:04other company have done that sooner it's just seems to make more sense granted
14:08with that though you have a single peg on the back of the face plate and then
14:11you have a single hole it's simple shapes periodically though you may
14:15notice that the face plate pops off how many times did it pop off in this review
14:18twice I mean it's a simple fix you just pop it back in place that's one of two
14:22good ideas that went into the release of hunters here the other one being the
14:25fabric cape for a while I like the idea of plastic capes but I'm really warming
14:29up to the idea that fabric capes seem to be the norm now I don't think you
14:33need to have a wire built onto the bottom of the cape I feel like that
14:36really gives the cape more of just a rigid stubbornness the wire only on the
14:41sides works the best because then you got the natural drape in between
14:44huntresses cape is small enough to that it doesn't take look like it's just
14:47enveloping her it's a really cool looking figure some of the colors though
14:51like the purple like in her arms you can see that there's clearly areas that are
14:55purple painted and then molded in purple plastic it's close enough
14:59obviously also as well the front of her bangs is a darker black than the rest of
15:03her hair but it's close enough to being seamless all in all though I really like
15:07the look of this one even though funny though enough I'm displaying her in
15:10final looks with my least favorite of the heads I think after this review I'm
15:13gonna pop the head off easily and swap it out instead with the one that has the
15:17smiling expression as being my favorite of the three what do you guys think of
