The Boston Red Sox are in hot pursuit of Juan Soto. Joey Copponi and Scott Neville discuss the latest developments in the Red Sox's pursuit of Juan Soto, and break down the chances of actually bringing him to Boston. Is it crazy to think that the Sox could get Soto AND Crochet? Kinda! But it's certainly possible! And man, oh man, would that change the outlook of this team overnight. Plus, the Red Sox are reportedly eyeing Corbin Burnes and Blake Snell, along with some other major free agent targets. The offseason we've all been waiting for might actually be here. All that, and much more!

00:00Welcome to the ITM podcast.
00:20This is episode 252 of the ITM podcast, the official Boston Red Sox podcast of the CLNS
00:25Media Network brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the
00:29CLNS Media Network, and by GameTime Tickets, the best place to buy tickets online, sports
00:32concerts, all your favorite events, the Boston Red Sox are in hot pursuit of top free agent
00:40Juan Soto.
00:41My name is Joey Caponio.
00:42That's Scott Neville.
00:43Scott, how are you doing?
00:45Be better if that were true.
00:47OK, this is going to be most of the show.
00:50So buckle up.
00:51We're going to talk Soto because that's most of, if not all, of the Boston Red Sox news
00:56right now is that they're in hot pursuit and they're among the top six contending teams.
01:02And actually, there's eight contending teams, but there's two mystery teams.
01:05But the Sox are one of the six teams that are known.
01:08And also, they're going to meet with them and also this and also that.
01:12So we have to spend some time and energy talking about it.
01:15I'm a little Soto'd out already, but it's just because I'm anxious and I want it right
01:21now.
01:22I think there's going to be another two months before anything actually happens, but we got
01:27to start.
01:28You are in disbelief land.
01:32I think they're going to see if they can pay him 80 percent of what he's worth.
01:42I like I don't think I don't know.
01:45I just yeah, I think I think they are actually like doing basically due diligence and what
01:51they should do and setting up a meeting with Soto and trying to give them their pitch.
01:56But I don't think when someone offers them Soto, you know, six hundred million with some
02:03deferrals or whatever, Breslau is going to say we can do six fifteen.
02:08I just can't see them even participating in a legitimate bidding war for one Soto.
02:17That just is laughable to me.
02:19I will say as much as I am on the belief train that they are in pursuit, as you say that
02:23it is tough to picture them outbidding once you get into an actual bidding war and saying,
02:29OK, we're out of our comfort zone, our financial comfort zone, and we'll push it a little bit.
02:35That is admittedly pretty tough to picture.
02:40But I don't think they would get involved to the extent of scheduling a meeting and
02:49all that if they weren't aware of what the market was.
02:54And if unless the Mets are going to do a Padres of a couple of years ago kind of move and
03:02come in and say, how about 750 and say something stupid?
03:07I think the expectation is or at least my expectation is that it's safe to assume they're
03:14going to be in the mix and that any offer they throw out there would be in the right
03:20stratosphere.
03:2180 percent feels feels low is what I'm saying.
03:26I can't picture them being more than 20 million off from whatever this final number.
03:33And I hate that I'm even saying that he's not coming here now because I don't I legitimately
03:37think there's like a 30 percent chance, 40 percent chance that he's on the Boston Red
03:43Sox.
03:44Wow.
03:45That's really high.
03:46OK.
03:47Yeah.
03:48I think they would pay him an offer that is fair market value for his services in a vacuum.
04:01I do not expect with other people, other teams competing with the Mets, with the Yankees.
04:10I'm not really worried about the Blue Jays, but like there's there's teams out there that
04:15are going to raise his price.
04:17And I don't think they will then, you know, his his value at the end of the day is going
04:22to be what he ends up getting from one team.
04:25And I don't think it will be Boston again.
04:29Also, like.
04:30I don't know, they're going to we're talking about all these, you know, they need to be
04:35also need nice and all this stuff.
04:37It's like, are we what's the plan?
04:39If they get Soto, then then do you expect them to go?
04:42I mean, the only way that works is if you get Soto, then trade for a crochet.
04:46That's it.
04:47That's the only way.
04:48And you can do that.
04:49You can.
04:50That's what I'm saying.
04:51But outside of that, it's like, OK, I don't know, it gets weird.
04:56I I'm not saying don't do it, but I did.
04:59Yeah, I have a hard time believing that they're going to be serious.
05:02I do think they will be like, I'm not super surprised about the meeting.
05:06I'm not super surprised that I'm sure we will get more steam.
05:12And it's not even that I think the Yankees or the or the Mets are like untouchable in
05:17this.
05:18It's more just like I just can't see the Red Sox like John Henry outbidding Steve Cohen
05:24that Steinbrenner is whoever else gets in the mix and being like, hey, biggest spender
05:31in Major League Baseball, like we're we're off to a six hundred million dollars, you
05:35know, start.
05:36We're back.
05:37I mean, the thing is, they want the reports are anyway, the reports are they want to be
05:42back.
05:43I believe that.
05:44And to be back to a degree, you can't just spend like the big teams are spending this
05:50offseason.
05:52If you want to be back, you have some catch up to do like you have to spend more.
05:57You have to be one of the top two spenders this offseason if you want to get like back
06:04in it.
06:05And I don't think it's insane to get Soto in crochet.
06:12I think a more realistic they're back is like Max Freed, maybe Anthony Santander.
06:21That's the thing is, after Soto, there's such a drop off, of course.
06:25But like you could get I mean, if if Freed is 150 and T. Oscar or, you know, so I don't
06:34know.
06:35There could be like this is not a contract.
06:37It's significantly more than what we've been accustomed to do.
06:40I don't.
06:41So you think they're going to.
06:42What do you.
06:43OK, let me ask this.
06:44Yeah.
06:45End of the offseason.
06:46Yeah.
06:47Team spending.
06:48Eight hundred million.
06:49OK, I was going to say, where do they rank, but that would be pretty high.
06:55What do you think they rank in team spending this offseason on opening day?
07:03So I would just I didn't need to I didn't need to double there, by the way.
07:08I said this offseason on opening day, I was trying to make sure you understood because
07:12I was going to say spring training, but then people.
07:16You know, it's all said and done.
07:18Where do they rank?
07:19It doesn't matter.
07:20Yeah, sure.
07:21There's no eight hundred million dollars spring training deal coming in that.
07:24Yeah, I get what you mean.
07:26You think second.
07:27Yeah.
07:28Do you really think that I do?
07:33I'm drinking the Kool-Aid this week.
07:35Yeah, that's I thought I was, too.
07:39I saw they're in on on big names, but I did.
07:42I don't think they're going to be second.
07:45Listen, well, they're going to have to be second if they're getting Soto and Crochet
07:50because Crochet wants that extension.
07:52So he's got to get that money to the White Sox in case you guys missed this.
07:56Apparently, the reports are they're interested in will your brain.
08:01I think the actual report is that they would be OK with a trade headlined by will your
08:05brain.
08:07That sounds more realistic, to be fair.
08:11Yeah.
08:12So last week when I got on here and I was like, will you're in a couple of prospects
08:17get the job done, then go sign Soto.
08:19I've been thinking about it.
08:21I don't think it's that crazy.
08:23I don't think it's that crazy.
08:25You get Soto six hundred.
08:27You get Crochet.
08:30What one seventy.
08:37You're saying you're saying the same number like you're talking seven hundred and something
08:43million one hundred million dollars in this office.
08:47You're talking about a lot of fucking money, right?
08:49But they have, by all accounts, made it pretty public or I guess not public, but they've
08:58let the information leak a lot to a lot of different sources that it's go time that they're
09:02ready to go.
09:04That would be going.
09:05That would be going.
09:07It would be so funny.
09:10Pitch.
09:11You want me to go, you will go, you know, go the fuck ahead, go.
09:16What do you got?
09:17I think it'd be really funny if they did get Soto at plus this offseason when they went
09:23into the press conference this offseason being like, we're not going to tell you whether
09:28the budget's going to be higher or lower.
09:30That's a competitive disadvantage.
09:31And then last offseason, they were like, literally everybody.
09:36They were like, oh, Tony, Yamamoto, do anything that would be awesome.
09:43They went, oh, Tony, Yamamoto, T. Oscar Hernandez.
09:47Well, I don't know what trade for a big name.
09:50You guys ever heard of Aaron Judge because he's going to be wearing red next year.
09:54And then and then they were like, um, Cooper Crystal, we can get for just over the minimum.
09:59Uh, let's do a flat million.
10:02That'll be our first deal.
10:03Guys, we can't sell the future.
10:04Yeah.
10:05Come on.
10:06Which you don't with money for unqualified.
10:09Right.
10:10You know, that's kind of how they pitched it.
10:11Well, hold on.
10:12You are you sure you want Soto because he's got a qualifying offer attached to him.
10:16Oh, shit.
10:17Yeah.
10:18Lefty.
10:20I'm not sure how the second round pick or maybe even a first, I'm not sure how that
10:23works anymore.
10:24Wow.
10:25I care about that.
10:26I'm I want to be so past caring about qualifying offers and caring about, oh, dude, I am so
10:32ready to be past it.
10:33I'm just done.
10:34I'm done.
10:35I'm ready.
10:36It's go time.
10:37I want Scott.
10:38I want you to picture this form.
10:39Do me a favor.
10:40Picture this picture.
10:41This picture is ready.
10:42Ready.
10:43Ready.
10:44Ready.
10:45Ready.
10:46OK.
10:47Devers, Story, Grissom, Cassis, Wong and Masa and your rotation is Crochet, Giolito, Hauk,
11:00Bayo, Crawford.
11:04Come the fuck on, come all in my pants.
11:10I think it's hysterical that you think there's a chance that Juan Soto doesn't immediately
11:16force Masa Taka Yoshida off this team the next day.
11:22I mean, look, they would love to get a righty.
11:27You have to get a righty in that scenario.
11:29I know.
11:30I know.
11:31The only way to shut up that much, shed up that much, shed that money to obviously.
11:38But yeah, I don't know.
11:40I don't know.
11:42We got Willier and Masa for Garrett Crochet.
11:48We'll eat half of Masa's contract.
11:50All of it.
11:51We'll pay him.
11:52I don't, I, again, I still don't want to give up Masa Taka Yoshida, but.
11:58It's not about that.
11:59It's about the lineup.
12:00I understand.
12:01Yeah.
12:02Another lefty in DH.
12:03In the DH thing where, like, you really, I don't know, whatever.
12:07That's a later conversation.
12:10It's an insane that that's all you pulled out of that, but, like, can you just picture
12:14that?
12:15Picture that.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Yeah.
12:18No.
12:19I hear you.
12:20It'd be cool.
12:21It'd be cool.
12:22But the thing is, like, it's Juan Soto.
12:23Like, we're not getting Juan Soto.
12:24Come on.
12:25Scott.
12:26We were meeting with him before.
12:27Counting points.
12:28Counting points.
12:29I genuinely can't even imagine how, like, getting that notification that I don't even,
12:58I can't even imagine how I would feel.
13:00I'd love to know where I would be in that moment.
13:03You know, like, that's, I can't even imagine the reaction.
13:10Yours, I would get so many texts so fast.
13:15It would be crazy.
13:16It would change the way I think about this team entirely.
13:21Not even just because of, like, getting an MVP caliber player on the team to pair with
13:26Devers for the rest of time, but it would just be like, oh, well, okay, so we are like
13:33a team again.
13:34Like, we're not.
13:35We are trying again.
13:36Yeah.
13:37Like, the team that where you go, hey, you know, who are the top three agents this offseason?
13:44Let's get, like, two of those guys every year because, like, we're losing.
13:49And if we're winning, it's like, it was like, oh, like, we're building something.
13:53We came in first in the division.
13:54We can use a David Price.
13:56And then I was like, okay, we also can use, probably, a closer.
13:59Let's get Craig Kimbrough on the prime.
14:01And then Chris Sale looks pretty good to me.
14:06Like, that would be fun if we were going to do that.
14:09Pedro's good and all, but we need another guy like him.
14:12Is there, like, a World Series champion that makes 35 starts a year that we could, oh,
14:18yeah, we'll just go to his house for Thanksgiving and butter him up.
14:22Yeah, let's get him.
14:25I want that.
14:26That would be easy.
14:27I want that.
14:29You know what I will say, final thought on Soto.
14:34Interesting the decision to not bring Poppy on this trip.
14:39I would imagine that this is where David Ortiz would come in handy.
14:46And, you know, Soto grew up a Boston fan, which also, I think, fucking matters.
14:53I did not know that.
14:56Manny and Poppy, dude.
14:57He's a DR kid.
14:58Right.
14:59So, yeah, I grew up loving Manny and Poppy.
15:03I feel like there's got to be a story or a reason why Poppy isn't going.
15:08Maybe they've already been in touch.
15:10Somebody should ask David that.
15:13Hmm.
15:14Yeah.
15:15But who could have access?
15:17I don't know.
15:18We've got a big episode coming next week.

16:59Use code CLNS to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup.
17:05Price Picks.
17:06Run your game.
17:07Scott?
17:08Yeah, so obviously we do the blocks, right?
17:11That was like a Soto block.
17:13It's not starting to hit me, speaking of Soto, and we're going to continue here.
17:19It would be insane.
17:21You think about how far the Yankees, I mean literally the World Series, how far the Yankees
17:25got with two good baseball players in their lineup.
17:30I feel like the Red Sox core is much greater and much deeper from a position player standpoint.
17:39So I will say, Devers, Soto, like duo, and then you also got Casas, you also got Duran,
17:47again, a lot of lefties, you also, Carter Wong is a dog.
17:53It's I mean, Trevor Story, those first 10 games is going to be filthy.
17:59He's a player, I'm not as excited about it.
18:03I'm talking, it'll be fun-ish, but it'll be fun, I don't know.
18:09Willier, if he stays, you'd have to imagine that they bring in a left-handed power hitter,
18:1826-year-old, that they'd probably, it'd probably be the one they would try to pick.
18:22You know, you are right, you're buying me, I do think if they got Soto, they 1000% get
18:27Crochet, because Willier is a legit piece.
18:31Like there's no way, like it makes him wildly expendable and is a legitimately great young
18:40player that should have been a Rookie of the Year candidate.
18:43And you add those two guys to this team, makes a world of difference.
18:50Like you said, how far the Yankees got with two good players and one good pitcher.
18:55I mean, the Diamondbacks last year, they got there with one good player and two good pitchers.
19:05And I don't know, speaking of good pitchers, another report this week that the Boston Red
19:12Sox, this is from Mike Deportes on Twitter.
19:19He reported that the Red Sox top priority, is that, was that the words he used?
19:25Yeah, top priority is Corbin Burns, Blake Snell as their fallback option.
19:31None of that really jives with what we were just saying at all.
19:36Well, did you read the second half of that?
19:39No.
19:40The chances of them signing Juan Soto are very slim.
19:45I would be surprised if the Yankees allowed that.
19:47So you want to throw this whole report out?
19:51Honestly, from Mike Rodriguez, yeah, kind of.
19:55I would like to flip that.
19:57I think the Red Sox have sat on the sidelines for years, just watched the Yankees go to
20:01the fucking World Series, and now want to re-sign the 26-year-old MVP candidate.
20:09Like I think it's the Red Sox who would not allow the Yankees to do that.
20:15I think it's...
20:16Is that crazy?
20:17Well, I think it's a little bold of him to say that the Yankees wouldn't allow that.
20:22People have just completely forgotten that the Red Sox have incredibly deep pockets.
20:28They just haven't used them.
20:30It's not...
20:31If the Red Sox were as motivated as they were in the comeback documentary, this would be
20:41quite the courting, and there'd be a lot of money involved.
20:44So we'll see.
20:45I don't know.
20:46But I do think it's a little absurd to say, I'd be surprised if the Yankees allowed that.
20:49It's not up to them.
20:50They traded the farm for one year, this guy, and he's now a free agent who had not a shred
20:55of loyalty to the team that went to the World Series, who, I don't know, minutes after the
21:00World Series ended was like, no, I am open to all 30 teams.
21:06If the Rays can come up with 700 million, I am a Ray.
21:09I do not care.
21:12I'm not from America.
21:13I'll go to any city.
21:14It's all the same to me.
21:16It's unbelievable that Yankees fans are like, I mean, it's inevitable he's coming back to
21:20the Bronx.
21:21It's a matter of time.
21:22It's like, did you not hear him say that, that he least loyal from day one, Yankee Stadium
21:30multiple times.
21:31He's been like, Hey, look, when I'm a free agent, I'm a free agent.
21:33And now the second he became a free agent, he's like all 30 teams.
21:36He didn't say like, it's not my team anymore in there.
21:39Yeah.
21:40I'm using their clubhouse till I pack all my stuff today and get out of here.
21:44But like, no, all 30 teams, including the one that I'm currently wearing the shirt
21:49of, like they all got the same chance.
21:52I don't think it's anywhere close to inevitable.
21:54I don't think the Yankees, I would like to see the one Soto odds right now.
21:58I would imagine probably the Nets are like number one.
22:01Is that, is that definitely one too?
22:03I don't know the lot, how they lined those two up.
22:07And then I would imagine it'd be a steep fall after that.
22:10Wow.
22:11Yankees are the favorite according to Fox.
22:18That's not surprising to me.
22:19I think they should probably be the favorite, but I don't think they have a hometown.
22:23They're not getting a discount on any guy.
22:24Go ahead.
22:25What'd you just say?
22:26I hate these odds.
22:33This has got to be a fucking joke.
22:35Read them.
22:38Yankees minus one 30.
22:42Mets plus one 60.
22:46Any team not listed plus 900 Dodgers plus 1100 Cubs plus 1800 Blue Jays plus 2000.
23:00Notice I haven't mentioned the Red Sox yet.
23:02Giants plus 2000 Scott, the fucking Nationals plus 2200.
23:09The Red Sox plus 2500.
23:11Yeah, that's, that's insane.
23:16That's just a good bet.
23:18Yeah, well, that's just good value.
23:22It's good value.
23:23It's good value.
23:24It has to come true for it to be a good bet.
23:27And that's where I falter, but yeah, I think it probably should be more like heavy favorites
23:34for Yankees.
23:37Mets like pretty even.
23:39And then I think the third should have a significant drop off and that should be any team in the
23:45Red Sox.
23:46I would probably go Red Sox, Blue Jays, Dodgers.
23:54And then I don't really think anyone else would be serious.
23:58Wow.
23:59I wouldn't put the Giants on there.
24:05Nationals is a joke.
24:07That's the one that's, that one's insane.
24:09I also know that the Cubs deserve to be on the list.
24:12I mean, I want to see if this is still the case because this is, those are the odds from
24:17an actual sports book that I can't say the name of.
24:21And so I'm going to quickly check if those odds are still the same because there's just
24:29no fucking way, right?
24:31That's ridiculous because I'm looking at some of the other sports books and it's like
24:36the Red Sox at like plus a thousand.
24:39That makes more sense to me.
24:43I would give them even better, honestly, I would say more like plus four or 500, but
24:53I just don't think they're for real.
24:57I don't hate them being third.
25:00No, I think that's realistic.
25:04Shocked the world, John.
25:08Shocked the world.
25:09He's been shocking the world.
25:11He's been, last year, I mean, he pulled quite the doozy.
25:16Last year he did shock the world, not in the way I wanted him to.
25:19He said, Hey Tom, I got a, I was seriously hilarious this bit.
25:25John, you know what?
25:26You know what would be funny?
25:29Yeah, he got us.
25:31If that's what he was doing, he got us.
25:34Tom comes out of that and John's like, what the hell was that?
25:40It's a bit, John.
25:41It's a bit.
25:42Trust me.
25:43It's a bit.
25:44Watch.
25:45They're going to be so mad.
25:46Apparently though, last year, the Red Sox offered Yoshinobu Yamamoto $300 million.
25:52Depending on who you look at, because some people say yes, some people say no.
25:57That was a report this week from Heyman.
26:00That was a report this week?
26:04Yeah.
26:05I mean, that's been a debate for a while.
26:08I think Passon kind of said, I'm not sure.
26:12Someone else said, I think it was Bowden or Feinstein said they did.
26:15Oh, Sean McAdam.
26:18The Red Sox did bid for Yoshinobu Yamamoto last offseason, offering $300 million.
26:24Yeah, that's exactly what I mean.
26:28That was a fair value contract for the player, but it was never going to beat the best off.
26:36That's exactly what I think is going to happen with Soto.
26:38I think they are going to invest a shitload of money and offer him a lot.
26:42I think it's going to be a fair contract when you look at it.
26:45I don't think it's going to be the highest.
26:55I don't know.
26:59Did they try to go full throttle last offseason?
27:02Did they try?
27:04Not full.
27:05Did they try to give it a little throttle last year?
27:08I think it was clown.
27:09I don't know.
27:10They came in second with every free agent.
27:12You got to give them credit for that.
27:14That's something.
27:15Thank you, Tanner and Liam.
27:16All right.

28:10What time is it?
28:11It's Game Time.
28:12This is kind of a closing thought, but I wanted to tell you it anyway because I meant to make
28:15it my closing thought last week, maybe the week before.
28:17It was right after voting, whenever voting was, the fifth.
28:21So maybe...
28:22Oh yeah, let's do this.
28:23Let's get into this.
28:24Yeah, no, it's not that.
28:29I had a story that I wanted to tell you.
28:31It's not Red Sox relevant at all.
28:33It's just an awkward interaction.
28:37I work from home, Scott, as you know, so I don't see a lot of people.
28:41So I don't interact with a lot of people outside of my core circle, right?
28:45Yeah.
28:46And I suck at it.
28:47I've always sucked at it.
28:48I suck at it.
28:49I suck at it.
28:50And I was registering to vote, doing my fucking civic duty, if you will, right?
28:57And I'm sitting there and I hand the woman my paperwork and I hand her my license.
29:02And she looks at my name and she goes, oh, Caponi.
29:05I grew up with a Caponi.
29:07And I said, no way, who?
29:10And she tells me and I'm like, no way, that's my cousin.
29:15And she's like, oh, no way.
29:16I assumed, you know, unique name, like there's only, you know, I figured you had to know
29:21her.
29:22I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
29:23I think I think she got married recently.
29:25And she's like, yeah, I saw that on Facebook.
29:28And I could have at that moment, I could have just said like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
29:33Left it right there.
29:35And for whatever fucking reason, Scott, what came out of my mouth was, yeah, Facebook's
29:39about as close as I get with that family.
29:44Why is that is.
29:47Why did I say that?
29:49That is insane.
29:50That was crazy.
29:52Her and I exchanged no more words.
29:55Then we sat there in dead silence until she said, you're all set.
29:58Go over there. Oh, oh, it was caught me off guard so bad.
30:04I did not expect you.
30:07Say that, no, nor did she.
30:09She didn't know what to say.
30:10I was like, yeah, I'm not really close with my family.
30:12She's like, nice, man.
30:14I am the guy who you've registered to vote with.
30:16You know, that's not really something you need to tell me about.
30:18So anyway, that's that's my little story.
30:25I did watch the second part of the comeback.
30:27I know that we planned to at some point go and watch the other two parts and talk about
30:32it. We were just going to do it three consecutive weeks and then news came up.
30:36And we were like, oh, shit, we'll just push that back.
30:39And at a certain point, it's going to be too late.
30:41But next week, next show might be a great time for that just because of.
30:47Right. Might be relevant.
30:49Might be relevant next week.
30:52Big episode next week.
30:53So maybe maybe we'll do that then.
30:56If you got if you got the time for that, I'm sure you got time for that.
30:59You got tons of time. You've been knitting still.
31:02Dude, almost daily.
31:05Yeah. Sometimes twice a day.
31:07Well, Rome wasn't sewn in a day.
31:09That's what they say. Is sewing and knitting the same thing?
31:13I know. Yeah, great point.
31:21I got I got a couple of things.
31:23Yeah. Oh, shit. Yeah. Say it, dude.
31:25There's two people that we haven't mentioned that could be massive parts of the Red Sox.
31:30And I'm surprised you haven't brought up yet.
31:32Yeah. By all means, tell me.
31:34First of all, Rosie Sasaki was posted since the last episode.
31:37And we he is just equally priced to everyone and it could go anywhere.
31:43And everyone just assumes the Dodgers, which I find to be a little weird.
31:47I do understand they have the two biggest Japanese, like most important Japanese
31:52players in, you know, MLB.
31:56So it makes sense that he would maybe want to join them.
31:59They're also the best team.
32:01And he's got to, you know, weigh out a bunch of different things, but.
32:06If it's all about pitching, like you just got to not pitching, throwing, but like
32:11making a pitch, 30 teams got a shot at him and there is like they can make like
32:19they're I don't know, I think it's more of a, you know, even playing field.
32:23I don't think it's the Red Sox or whatever, but I think any of the, you know,
32:28historic franchises have a real shot to at least make him consider.
32:34I, you know, I don't, I think it makes sense for him to go to the Dodgers, but
32:38at the same time, I don't think it's as absurd as people are making it out to me.
32:44Didn't he say he wants to go to the Dodgers?
32:49Uh, I think he like outright said that.
32:52I think that's why people are saying it.
32:55Cause he was like, I can't wait to be a Dodger.
32:58Um, Dodgers are the favorite Dodgers expected to sign.
33:04I'm trying to figure it out.
33:09It's nearly certain that Sasaki will end up in a Dodgers uniform.
33:14That's from your site.
33:17From really?
33:19Yeah.
33:20What, what, what person?
33:22Uh, well it's from Sports Illustrated.
33:25It's from the Padre site.
33:26You have the Padre site?
33:27No, but the guy I own a second business with does Marin Angus Combs.
33:35I don't know him, but I know most of his writers at this point.
33:38Um,
33:45I Dallas Keiko spent some time as his teammate in Japan the last two months.
33:49If you're wondering, Oh, that'll help.
33:50He, well, no, he, that's not him.
33:53He said that, uh, he would expect him to go to the Dodgers, but he
33:57didn't really talk about it.
33:58So I don't really know what that means.
34:04We're going to fully convince the Sasaki will achieve great things in the majors.
34:07Given what he witnessed in Japan, it's nearly certain Sasaki will
34:10end up in a Dodgers uniform.
34:12Yeah.
34:13Well, Hey, listen, uh, I still think it'll get interesting also.
34:19Well, first of all, people could go into it being like, I definitely
34:22go to the Dodgers and hear 30 different pitches and things change.
34:25Uh, second of all, there's another option for cheap that the Red Sox could.
34:32Oh, rich Hill.
34:35Yes.
34:39Welcome to Boston.
34:40You're going to love it here.
34:41Rich.
34:42You're going to really like it here, man.
34:45Nice.
34:48I think it would be his 30th to stint in Boston.
34:50Actually.
34:51Right.
34:51That's right.
34:54Okay.
34:55Yeah.
34:55That's no, who are you going to say?
34:57No, that was actually it.
34:59Was it actually, yeah, I was going to do a bit, but obviously I wasn't serious,
35:02but yeah, no, I saw that.
35:03Oh, I nailed it.
35:04Look at you.
35:05I saw the rich Hill news.
35:08And for some reason I was like, Oh, that'd be funny.
35:10And then I was like, we haven't talked about Rosie Sasaki at all.
35:15Yeah.
35:15Cause it's just not happening.
35:17It's just not, I put it at, I put it at a 1% chance.
35:20I don't think, I don't think it means anything to me at all.
35:24You burn this false optimism, burn, Snell, crochet moves the needle for me.
35:30But what do you mean?
35:32You think it's possible or you don't mean to say it does something for me.
35:35And I like hearing, hearing rumors about them does something for me.
35:38Okay.
35:39Cause Rosie Sasaki is one of the best pitchers on the planet.
35:42No, I mean, it would be sweet.
35:44I just, I don't think that there's a chance whatsoever.
35:50I think he's in SoCal one way or the other.
35:51I think he's either in LA or San Diego.
35:54I oddly feel like Corbin Burns is not a realistic candidate, but I think
35:59freed and, uh, crochet are really free.
36:04Freed obviously moves.
36:05No, maybe.
36:06Awesome.
36:07No, it's not weird, man.
36:08It smells weird.
36:11Like, yeah, I can't ever picture him here, but I also, um, this year it
36:15feels more likely than past, but he just doesn't feel like a Red Sox guy in
36:20any way.
36:21And I just feel, I don't know.
36:22I, my crystal ball shows me a weird time in Boston.
36:28I feel like, you know, one injury and, you know, misses a month and just
36:34doesn't go well and like, doesn't go well with the fans.
36:37I mean, and then I could just see it being a weird experience and kind of
36:41a David Price thing all over again.
36:44It's just, I don't know.
36:46I could listen.
36:47That's just, that's nothing more than gut.
36:49And again, my crystal ball, but beyond that, I mean, I don't know.
36:53I just have a weird feeling about snow here.
36:54I don't think that that would really happen or go well if it did.
37:00Uh, yeah, that's not surprising.
37:02I kind of feel the same way.
37:04Uh, last piece of news here.
37:07The Boston Red Sox have hired Chris Holt, Baltimore Orioles, uh, director
37:16of pitching and pitching coach as the Red Sox, new bullpen coach.
37:23Cool.
37:24So that's cool.
37:25Welcome to Boston, Mr.
37:27Holt.
37:29We got him.
37:30Holt's back.
37:31Holt is back.
37:33Mm hmm.
37:34Uh, you have any other news?
37:36Just one thing, uh, Passon and Heyman both seem to believe that Nick
37:42Pavetta will not take qualifying offer, which would, in that case,
37:46I remove all my criticism from Rezo, because if he can get a pick out of
37:51Nick Pavetta and he doesn't take that fantastic, I, you know, there are,
37:58I think Passon's quote was like, he'll get one of the bigger deals for
38:01starting pitchers, which I thought, I mean, I don't know if he's considering
38:05top 10 to be one of the bigger deals, but that that's a little surprising to me.
38:11I mean, obviously you've got burns freed.
38:13If you count crochet extension, you got a snow and, but then there's even guys
38:20like, I mean, I'd probably bet on Mania Severino.
38:27Um, I would have put Walker in that conversation.
38:30How'd he stayed?
38:31Like I'm missing obvious people.
38:35I mean, the thing about, the thing about Pavetta that I think is probably
38:41enticing is so 2017 is rookie year.
38:4426 starts 18, 32 starts.
38:49Uh, and then 19 and 20 was kind of a wash.
38:52Uh, 21, he made 30 starts 22.
38:55He made 33 and then 24, he made 26.
39:00He's a horse.
39:02He's a dog.
39:02So, I mean, in terms of longevity, you'd be like, you need a guy that's there
39:07every fifth day in the middle of your rotation.
39:10Nick Pavetta will do that.
39:12He'll be there.
39:12He'll do your thing.
39:13But give a 92 ERA plus, is that what his career is?
39:18Yeah.
39:19I will say in the last four seasons, 103, 92, 113, 103.
39:23So like, yeah, probably going to be basically since coming to Boston.
39:28Average.
39:29He's basically the average.
39:30He's going to be right down the middle.
39:33Uh, I know he's there.
39:35He's average and he's there.
39:36That's your, that's your three starter in any good organization.
39:39Jack Flaherty, Kikuchi.
39:40Those guys should get more.
39:41Shane Bieber should get more.
39:42Walker Bueller should get more.
39:45Yeah, that kind of, yeah.
39:48I don't think that, I think that's very generous to say he's going to be among
39:52the top starting pitching contracts.
39:54That's, that's a little, that's a little much, but Jack Flaherty's
39:58going to be on the Red Sox.
39:59I don't know why I feel that way.
40:01Yeah.
40:01You've said that a lot and that makes me not believe it.
40:05I hope I'm not really, he's a, you know, good year, bad year guy.
40:09And I don't like those guys.
40:11Blake's no, uh,
40:17probably time for this.
40:34Do you got, it's time to empty your brain with Joey and Scott.
40:45It's gotta be something going on in that head of yours, dude.
40:47What's going on?
40:50I, uh, I don't even know if we can say this, but the only thing that's come to
40:55mind in my last 30 seconds here is that I'm have Twitter in case something
40:59like the rich Hill news breaks.
41:01Yeah.
41:01Um, and I just looked over at the trending section on the side and, uh,
41:07with absolutely no context, uh, rapey McForehead is the, uh, the politics
41:14trending topic for sports.
41:16It's the giants.
41:19The other thing in politics is just says Lindsay.
41:23What's what's going on?
41:25I don't know.
41:26I can't happened in the world in the last hour that I missed.
41:29Um, oh, they're talking about Matt Gates.
41:33Yeah.
41:33I don't know.
41:35I have no idea who that is.
41:36I don't know politics, but yeah, that is certainly a nickname.
41:43Yeah.
41:45It's a tough one to be trending for.
41:50Remember when, um, just to get a little political here.
41:54Um, do you remember when, uh, back in the day, when we were talking about
41:59days of urban dictionary and when Rick Santorum was running for president?
42:04Do you remember this?
42:05No.
42:06When, what year was that?
42:082012.
42:10Yeah.
42:11It would have been like 12.
42:12So I probably wasn't locked in.
42:13Right.
42:14Do me a favor and do me a favor and Google Santorum definition
42:20because they did this.
42:21This was like one of the earliest political practical jokes that I remember.
42:24Uh, um, Santorum's Google problem.
42:34Yeah.
42:34I don't know if I want to read this one off.
42:36Yeah.
42:37Don't read it.
42:38Yeah.
42:39All right.
42:39A frothy mixture.
42:40You see it?
42:41Yeah.
42:41Oh, yeah.
42:42Yep.
42:42Yep.
42:42Yep.
42:43Yep.
42:46Uh, any, what about you?
42:48You got any closing thoughts?
42:50Um, yeah, I mean, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I,
42:54I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, uh,
42:56oh geez Louise.
43:00Um, I don't think so man.
43:08Would you, uh, would you trade Crochet if they cost you both walley or playground
43:13cropper?
43:14No, I wouldn't either.
43:16And I don't know why that keeps being a conversation.
43:18No, I think I was.
43:19I think that's an overpay.
43:21I think cutter is the mandate.
43:22I mean one of those guys and some prospects, but like I don't think that I think the White Sox are are interested in position players
43:29I think that's kind of been I think hopefully because you get rid of cutter and it's like how much
43:35How much could that like you're marginally now improving the rotate that's what they did last year
43:39I mean they were like, let's get you Lito, but we're trading sale now that obviously forget the fact that that
43:45couldn't have worked worse, but just the idea that like
43:49Okay, we're adding G Leo, but we're now gonna get rid of a huge piece
43:54So it's gonna be like a 5% increase and it actually turned out to be like a 200%
43:59Drop. Yeah, I mean I cannot imagine in 2025 the Josh Winkowski
44:05We'll be starting any games for the Boston Red Sox. I can't watch that. So
44:09No, I would like to keep as much starting pitching depth as we can and I don't even think cutters like a depth piece
44:15I think he's a I think he's like in a strong rotation. He's your number five guy
44:19I would I would still be stuck cuz like
44:23for the past couple years you go on the fifth you go to Fenway on when on day five of the rotation and
44:30First of all, it's a dice roll who's gonna be out there. It might be up there for three innings and
44:36Like you're not excited to see the five guy
44:39But five guys cutter. Oh
44:42Oh
44:43Like a cutter like I remember I used to always I had this long stretch going where every
44:49Red Sox game I went to was an erod start
44:54And that was a bummer
44:58Man I was a erod and
45:01I just don't think that there's like a bad spot in the rotation that we laid out crochet G Alito
45:08How Bay O Crawford?
45:11I love that. I love that. Don't get rid of cutter. I love coming
45:15I'm gonna need to be reminded often that Lucas Giuliano's on this team when we're talking about this game
45:20Cuz I know wow, is that not in my head?
45:24Like I know I just mentioned him as an offseason move because I remember him as an offseason move
45:29Mm-hmm. I forget that he's still a human being. Yeah, I know it's like it feels like we got him and then he vanished
45:36You know, it was like it's like yeah the Sox got him but you know, unfortunately the government blasted him into space
45:42So yeah, right right after yeah, no, he's gonna be here under contract pitching
45:48In 2025, so I mean that's the plan. That's the plan
45:55All right, yeah, I don't think I have any other thoughts in my brain
46:02Watch it bro, seriously
46:05We'll be back next week, it's gonna be later in the week probably gonna be Friday
46:11Probably gonna be a Friday release
46:14yeah, and
46:16It's gonna be a good one gonna be a good one and we will talk to you guys then if any breaking news happens
46:21Maybe we'll hop on for an emergency one, but I doubt it will it's November, but we haven't even really discussed that if something crazy breaks
46:28You might hop on that day
46:31Yeah, I mean, I think
46:33There's an echelon of talent there like Soto burns Sasaki
46:41Max freed call for an emergency pod
46:46Where's that I don't know if he's emergency pod, okay
46:49crochet
46:50Crochet is emergency. I think so, too
46:53burns
46:55Yes, it's no
46:57Snow is a weird one. Yeah, that's a line. That's trying to figure out that line
47:02Snow's like that night we get on and do one
47:06Okay. Yeah, what else?
47:08Position player wise is a Soto or bust. Is there anyone else in that market?
47:13Oh, yeah, I mean like what like Christian Walker like would that be an emergency pod? I guess so. Oh
47:21Oh Peter Lonzo would be an emergency pod. I
47:24Haven't for one moment thought the people
47:27Interesting guys, of course. I'm just I'm just trying to think of who is
47:32Important enough. I'll give you two more Devin Williams and Ryan Helsley if we traded for a closer. Those would be emergency pods
47:43You know think so I
47:45Don't think so. Devin Williams has like a 1 to 5 era this year. Sure
47:491 to 5 era this year. Sure. What about trade for Luis Castillo?
47:57Yeah, yeah, I think that's emergency bud, okay Tanner Scott
48:06No, okay
48:10I don't think Walker Bueller
48:12Walker Walker, I might want to do one
48:15Okay
48:16I'm a kikuchi. Man, I uh, Pavetta Evaldi Severino
48:23Evaldi because he's Evaldi. Okay
48:26Those other guys I don't think so. I think we could do it like that night or the next day
48:33Okay
48:36Interesting hot dog him no last year would have been a yes to me
48:41Tyler O'Neill T. Oscar Hernandez. No, no Santander Santander Santander Santander
48:48Yeah, there we go. I
48:51Don't think so
48:53Willie Adamas definitely Alex Bradley. Definitely
48:57Yeah, those would both be weird though
48:59Cuz I mean then I mean I guess it would be a pod worthy because then you'd be like what the fuck why where yeah
49:05Why did we just get really?
49:07Yeah, what what are we doing? Where are these guys going?
49:09Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, I'm just curious Trevor story gets to play 14 games at the shortstop and then goes right back to the second
49:17I wouldn't I wouldn't rule that out in general just like
49:22Meijer I don't know
49:25Yeah, man, it's all possible
49:28All right. Well, we'll be back next Friday

50:03St. Louis Cardinals. Oh
50:07Yep
50:10Yep. Oh, uh, I bought Fenway tickets yesterday
50:15to a concert
50:17My chemical romance. I knew it. I knew that was the way you said Fenway tickets
50:22I knew that was gonna be a not Red Sox game. Yeah. Well, I haven't bought Red Sox tickets in years. I'm not gonna
50:28That's also a good point. We don't really need it
50:30Oh, shout out the Boston strong for just like is saying he's a pink hat fan. By the way, that was insane
50:35You're just like by the way, i'm a fairweather fan cool
50:39Everyone already takes you so seriously. So that's really gonna
50:43Man, that could impact your image negatively if you consider that
50:48Don't have to worry about that. Did you see that? No, I don't see
50:54I see him way more than I want to but he he said like I haven't he's like if the Red Sox sign one soto
50:59I would go to Fenway. I haven't been to Fenway since I was a kid
51:03I haven't been to Fenway since 2023. I won't maybe don't go online admitting that
