00:31Jeff, one of the interesting things this year has been Jason Tatum in his three-point shot.
00:39So we've talked about the mechanical adjustments and maybe you can give us some more insight
00:43into that, but how much of it is mental?
00:45Yeah, I mean, I think a good part of it is, I mean, you know, when you have success, you
00:50tinker with something.
00:52And again, he made it a little more compact.
00:55You know, I've watched him for years and it wasn't the cleanest three-point shot.
01:01You know, and he was kind of, he's been erratic throughout his career.
01:03He's been a little streaky, whether it was even back in college and throughout his NBA
01:08career.
01:09When he gets in a role, he can make them.
01:11So I think part of it was mechanical and working with Drew Hanlon and working over the summer
01:18and trying to make it more compact.
01:20And then when you start making them early, then it becomes a confidence thing, right?
01:25Okay.
01:26You know what?
01:27It worked.
01:28It worked.
01:29And, you know, his first three games were great.
01:30Obviously, fourth game didn't make him quite at the same rate.
01:33He's not going to shoot 40, whatever it was, 6% from three this year.
01:38But if he could shoot high thirties, Gary, instead of mid thirties, that's a big difference
01:45with the number of threes that the Celtics shoot and he shoots.
01:51In order to be an all-world NBA player, do you have to be a three-point shooter?
01:57Yeah.
01:58Yeah.
01:59Nowadays, you do.
02:00Nowadays, you do.
02:01You can't be a guy, again, even look at Jokic, right?
02:07Like he makes them now.
02:09He's gotten better.
02:10He makes them.
02:11Every guy in the Celtics has to make them because of the way they play the game and
02:16the way Brad Stevens started it.
02:19I don't think it was any surprise that Brad Stevens, part of the reason he picked Joe
02:23Mizzou is because they share a similar philosophy in the amount of threes that they want to
02:29get up in a game.
02:31And, yeah, I think you have to be, look at the Celtics.
02:36There's nobody in their team who can't and doesn't shoot threes.
02:39They're not going to bring anybody and play them as part of their regular rotation if
02:44they can't do that.

04:29Where's Pritchard now in Boston folklore?
04:31I mean, moving up, moving up.
04:34You shoot like he has the last week in chains here.
04:40When he gets hot, man, that's the beauty of their second unit, right?
04:44Whether it's Hauser, he's cold right now, Pritchard picks up the slack for him.
04:51They have a lot of weapons and those weapons, part of the beauty of it is, well, if you're
04:57an opposing team, what are you going to do?
05:00You got to leave Peyton Pritchard until he proves he can start getting hot because you
05:04got to double Jason Tatum.
05:06You got to look out for Jaylen Brown.
05:07You got to look out for Derek White or Drew Holliday.
05:10There's just so many weapons and, oh, by the way, they don't even have Porzingis.
05:14That's right.
05:15I keep forgetting about that.
05:16It's crazy.
05:17It is a little nuts.
05:20It's a little nuts and it just seems to me right now there's the Celtics in the rest
05:24of the league.
05:25Yeah.
05:26Oh, it's accurate.
05:27I mean, it's accurate.
05:28You know, they win it all the way they won it all last year.
05:32People complain, well, you didn't go through the superpowers.
05:34Well, who are the superpowers?
05:37Who are they?
05:38Like, go ahead.
05:39Tell me.
05:40Does Denver look tough right now?
05:42No.
05:43Do the Knicks look overwhelming?
05:44Hell no.
05:45You know, Oklahoma City, that like, prove it to me.
05:50Prove it to me.
05:51Minnesota?
05:52Yeah.
05:53You had a good run last year, but this Celtics team right now is heads and shoulders over
05:59everybody else.
06:00There's the Celtics and then there's a significant gap to whoever the hell you want to say is
06:04number two.
06:05All right, Jeff.
06:06As we look ahead to the college game, what are you looking at right now?
06:09Well, I'll do the crossover a little bit with the NBA to college and the guys that NBA fans
06:15have to watch out for.
06:16It starts with Cooper Flagg, obviously the main product that is a reclassified freshman
06:21at Duke and John Chire is going to run a lot through him.
06:24He is supremely unique in that he's 6'8", 6'9", and his best asset, you can choose between
06:32his passing and court vision.
06:34You can choose between his shot blocking and defense.
06:38His shooting's gotten better, but he is a versatile, multidimensional forward.
06:45And it starts with him and VJ Edgecombe's a kid at Baylor, you got to watch.
06:50A big wing from the Bahamas who played well on the Bahamian team with Buddy Heald and
06:57DeAndre Hayton and Eric Gordon.
07:00He's terrific.
07:02You got a couple of kids at Rutgers, Gary.
07:04Rutgers.
07:05Yeah, you heard it right.
07:06Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper Jr., two of the top five freshmen in the country.
07:10Ace Bailey?
07:11Ace Bailey.
07:12Ace Bailey.
07:13Good name.
07:14God bless them.
07:15Yeah.
07:16Watch out for them.
07:17So I think, again, the best teams to start the season are Kansas and Alabama.
07:23They're 1A and 1B.
07:24UConn goes for the three-peat.
07:26That's obviously a huge storyline to watch out for.
07:31Cooper Flagg, UConn's three-peat, Arkansas, John Calipari in Arkansas, first year.
07:40That's a big one.
07:41Mark Pope taking over at Kentucky.
07:43How does he do?
07:44Louisville's got a real coach now.
07:45And Pat Kelsey.
07:47Those are some of the storylines that you've got to watch out for.
07:49But Cooper Flagg, I think the slogan that I was given, too, by an NBA person for trying
08:01to get Cooper Flagg is poop for Coop.
08:04Poop for Coop.
08:07Terrific.
08:08That's great.
08:10How did he come up with that one?
08:11Oh, my God.
08:12There's nothing like seeing a game live.
08:14I mean, watching it on TV is great.
08:15We have all the technology.
08:16We have our phones.
08:17We have access to everything.
08:18But being there in person is definitely the way to go.

08:49What time is it?
08:50It's GameTime.
08:51Final question on Cooper Flagg, though, as you describe him to me, he seems to be not
09:00necessarily potentially a franchise NBA player, but part of a greater whole.
09:08Yeah, I mean, I think he's a guy that's, again, different, right?
09:14He's different.
09:15A white dude at Duke, first of all, right?
09:18Like people are going to love him or hate him.
09:20He's got that kind of the expression on his face, too.
09:23He'll talk some shit during the game.
09:25So again, if you're a Duke fan, you're going to love the kid.
09:28If you're from Maine, you're going to love the kid.
09:30If not one of those two things, you're probably going to hate him because he's got a little
09:37He's not like Leitner.
09:38He's not going to talk like that, but again, he's going to be that guy that he could carry
09:46Duke to a national title.
09:47It wouldn't shock me.
09:49But once he gets in the league, what you're describing to me is not necessarily a scorer
09:53first.
09:54No, no, no.
09:55He is not a scorer first.
09:56Right.
09:57He's a do-it-all guy.
09:58Yeah, he's a do-it-all guy.
09:59So he's not like that coming-in-all-the-world kid that's going to build a franchise.
10:05No, he'll probably go number one, but he's going to go number one because you're getting
10:11a winning player who does everything on the court.
10:15He's a stat stuffer.
10:16He's a guy you're going to look at this year, and he's going to probably average 15 points,
10:217.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, a steal and a half, a block and a half, and he just impacts winning
10:29in so many ways.
10:30Jeff Goodman, thank you so much.
