00:50There's two things that y'all will never let go of, and that's one of them.
00:55There's a long story. Gary loves that story too. Gary can't even stop grinning.
01:08In a nutshell, at one point, Vinny's wallet left his purse, and we were in a spot, and then...
01:14He said purse. He didn't tell the purse.
01:17As in your person. It was not on your person.
01:22Didn't they teach that at Eastern Michigan? I mean, I'm just saying.
01:25Gary, I thought he meant like purse.
01:27Yeah, I thought he meant that too.
01:29No, I guess they didn't teach it at Cal either. Okay. Anyway, Vinny's wallet turned up missing,
01:35and we're in a spot, and they called out the person whose wallet was Vincent Goodwill Jr.,
01:41and they were mad loud about it.
01:44It was mad loud. It was mad loud.
01:46It was funny though, because most of us didn't realize you were a junior until that moment.
01:53It's his people. It's his people. His brothers, you know, for life,
01:56brothers from another mother, called him out. He right here. He right here. He right here.
02:04So Vinny couldn't even chill, casually walk up and get his wallet like all the people in the spot
02:12knew that's the dude who lost his wallet. There he is right there.
02:17I went through all the stages of grief on that, Gary. They stopped it. They was like,
02:22somebody lost their ID. I'm like, who's the fool that lost his ID?
02:30It was in slow motion. It was like, Vincent. I'm like, man, somebody here with the same name as me.
02:34Ha, that's interesting. And then he says, Goodwill. I'm like, oh, shoot, it's me.
02:40And then he says, Junior. And I'm like, seriously, like both of us ain't going to be in here.
02:46Yeah. My daddy, what's your daddy doing in here?
02:48He knows damn well your daddy wasn't in that spot. That's the messed up part. That dude knew
02:52your father was, he didn't have to say Junior. That dude was far on. That wasn't right. That
02:59wasn't cool. That wasn't right. We just added to the greatest hits, dog. We got a lot of greatest
03:04hits. We got lots of greatest hits on Vince and Goodwill, but I want to talk about another,
03:08could have been not so great hit. And I'm talking about Derrick White, Boston Celtics,
03:15Olympian, NBA champion, had a little bit of a kerfuffle at the Colorado-Colorado State game.
03:22Like any rivalry, got a little heated. Apparently, Derrick White, who as you all know, is an alum
03:28of Colorado, and the Buffs won again over Colorado State. And I guess a Colorado State fan
03:35has some issues with that. And they got into a little bit of a tussle of sorts.
03:39Apparently, Derrick got hit in the back of the head, but there wasn't, at least before as we
03:44came to broadcast this, there were no charges being filed, no incident report or anything like
03:48that was written up. But still, the idea that one of your best players, you know, got into a little
03:56scuffle, nobody hurt, nobody damaged or anything like that. But what are your thoughts on that type
04:01of stuff? Because we hear stuff like this happens all the time, but what are your thoughts in
04:04general on that, particularly with Derrick White, who, Derrick don't cause trouble to nobody. He
04:08might be the most popular player in the Boston Celtics' life. Well, maybe, I don't know,
04:14depends on popular amongst who, given the Olympics and some of these other, you know,
04:21who made it, who didn't make it, who played, who didn't. I'm just saying. Now, I mean,
04:26you can't just be a fan at a game. You gotta have somebody knocking you upside the head. Like,
04:32what happened to Sevilla? Like, there used to be this thing, like, you go to a college football
04:37game, and there's like a celebrity in the stands, there's a ball player in the stands or something
04:40like that. You might go back and forth with them just on, like, as a thrill, just to talk some
04:46trash or something like that. Now, because of Twitter and Instagram, all these people get all
04:51this liquid courage, all this bravery, that think they could just step to anybody and do anything.
04:56Y'all know me. Y'all know I don't exactly kick it like that.
05:02I'm just glad that it was Derek White and not Vincent Goodwill Jr.
05:07Y'all have never seen me in a fight, right? Y'all have never seen me in a fight. Y'all have never
05:13seen me, you know, engage in fisticuffs, but I'm not the dude to steal on. That's all we're
05:19gonna say. I ain't the dude to steal on. And good on Derek White and his people for not
05:23retaliating, because that could have got a lot worse, and then he would have been the person
05:28that everybody would have been looking at. Oh, you didn't have to do that. You could have
05:31retaliated or whatever it was. He didn't retaliate, and that goes against a lot of
05:35people's instincts, and I'm kind of glad he didn't, because it could have been a lot worse.
05:38Yeah, and that happened out on the West Coast. Gary, your hood, West Side. Vinny is Midwest,
05:46I'm Northeast, you West Side. Don't act like, oh, now, Vinny, now, West Side, what's that?
05:54If you want to call Fort Collins, Colorado the West Side, I don't know if Cube and Mac10 and
06:03WC would sign off on that, but okay, we can. I think it's interesting, like, first of all,
06:11it was a road game, so he was in a hostile environment. It sounded like a guy kind of,
06:17I watched the video a few times, and the guy kind of backhanded Derek, and he knocked his hat off
06:23or whatever. It looked like Derek was trying to kind of figure out what was going on and get
06:27involved, and somebody intelligently just said, hey, Derek, like, just back up. Like, you know,
06:34you don't need NBA star, NBA champion involved in a fight, and now, you know, as the NFL season
06:40started, football season, you see the steady streams of in-game fighting, like, you know,
06:47especially at the Raider games, and you just see the, all on your Twitter, X, TikTok, whatever
06:55feeds, oh, boy, here's the fights at football games, and I just think football games have just
07:02gotten to where you just got to be cool. Like, you have to watch out for anything, especially
07:08being a celebrity like Derek White, and you're in hostile territory. You're at Colorado State.
07:13You're not, it's not a home game. You have to be careful because somebody, like Sherrod said,
07:19could be trying to come at you. There's drunk people, people talking mess. I mean, I went to
07:24a Patriots game last year with my wife, and at that same game, somebody got knocked unconscious
07:31and died from a fight with a Dolphins fan. I mean, you know, I was at the game. I didn't see
07:37the guy walked up, you know, what you're talking about, and the guy hit him, and his head hit the
07:42pavement, and that was it. He died, like, at the game that I attended, and so you got to be careful
07:48with these events like that. You know, if you're not sitting amongst your, you know, Colorado fans
07:54or the fans of the team you're rooting for, which is all good, and you're mixing it up like that,
07:59like you said, Sherrod, it's a night game. It was a Saturday night game. Alcohol is flowing. People
08:05have been tailgating all day, and they get the liquid courage. Eric's got to be a little bit
08:10more careful than that. It might be time to live that sweet life, that, you know, that luxury box
08:17life where I'm sure the university president has no problem putting them up in a place where
08:23him and his family can go and just chill and be safe where the AD is and the basketball coach is
08:28and all the other kind of dignitaries of Colorado because just being amongst the people,
08:35Derek ain't about that life no more, and he got to be careful because you just,
08:39like you said, somebody's trying to make a video. Somebody's trying to go viral,
08:44and if you're Derek, and he hasn't, doesn't have that type of disposition.
08:47We all know, you know, maybe Derek had had a couple of cold ones himself. We don't know his
08:53state of mind, but he's got to be careful of that, and he needs people around him, and luckily,
08:58whoever it was, the people just kind of veered back up, back up. You know, I think he's trying
09:02to get his hat back because his hat got knocked off. Hey, let the hat go, man. We'll get you
09:07another Colorado hat. No worries. Let's just, you know, just be cool, man, because obviously,
09:14somebody was recording it. Somebody had it on tape, like it was, you know, and Derek was all
09:20up in the video. Just a nod to our friend Suge Knight. He was, Derek was all up in the video.
09:28Hey, are we allowed to say that? Because both of them dudes is in jail.
09:31Yeah, well, you know, I ain't saying no other guy just got arrested. I ain't going to mention
09:37him, but I'm talking about his rival that he said, you know, he said that 30 years ago,
09:43all up in the video. You don't want to be all up in the video anymore. That's not a good thing.
09:48Damn, Vinny. It just dawned on me, Vinny. What if they get in the same cell block?
09:54No, he's going to go in the club. No, no. Did he go in the club fed?
10:00Maybe not club fed, but he's doing fed time.
10:04He might get fed to the jail club, because that's another story for another day. Back to Derek White,
10:12because, see, I'm reading Gary's mind. This is like Gary Rowe. Gary's like, stay away from that,
10:17stay away from that. You said something, Gary, that I thought was interesting,
10:23when you're talking about Derek White being amongst the people, that's who he is. And the
10:28idea that Derek White would be up in a sweet box at a football game? He's not a regular guy anymore.
10:33He's a Colorado alum, and he goes to football games. You're at a road game. One, you're not
10:43at home. It was at Colorado State. So he took the drive from Boulder to Fort Collins. So there's
10:50going to be people there saying expletive to him, because they're Colorado State fans,
10:55and here comes one of Colorado's finest. And then some guy just took a swipe at him. I mean,
11:03people don't care. And then someone, quite honestly, the camera phone was ready to go,
11:08because they got the first punch. And then somehow, oh my God, just like the Jordan Poole video,
11:14TMZ got their hands on it. Well, I wonder how that happened. People ain't playing no more.
11:22They put you on video, they gonna call TMZ, okay, 50,000, okay, here's my Venmo,
11:27and here's the video. Because we still don't know, Vinny, who sent that video of Draymond
11:36going Mike Tyson and Jordan Poole. Oh, they know. Oh, they know. We don't know.
11:41We don't know how that got to TMZ. I hope whoever shot it got a nice grip for that,
11:48because that's facts. That's one of the videos that over time, the value...
11:55I believe there's an audience of people who paid to find out who that was. I bet you it's to the
11:59point where you don't even need to see the video no more. You've seen it. Someone would literally
12:03pay for that, for that knowledge. Facts. Facts. They know who did that. That team know who did
12:11that. That ain't no secret. They just didn't tell us. Nah. Nah. Nah. But look, bottom line is kids
12:18out there, no fighting at the football games unless you're playing. And even if you're playing,
12:22fight within the rules. Fight for your position. Fight for your line of scrimmage. But don't fight

13:59to the Celtics. The Celtics, you got some cats who are trying to fight for a spot in the NBA.
14:03The Celtics are filling out the back end of that training camp roster. Reportedly,
14:07they work out Nasir Little. And for those who don't remember him, because if we keep it in a
14:12buck, he's easy to forget. He was taken in the 2019 draft. He was like the 25th overall pick,
14:20which for folks who, you know, talking to the president of the Grant Williams fan club,
14:26Gary Washburn, he went three spots after Grant Williams did that year, just in case,
14:30just if you keep a score at home. Now, Gary, I'm gonna start with you. What do you think the
14:34chances of Nasir Little actually making it through training camp and having some role with the
14:39Celtics, whether it's obviously with the main team, which I doubt, but what about that G League
14:43squad? Well, I know he worked out for other teams too. He'd have to choose the Celtics.
14:51You know, he's a guy, you know, I mean, it's funny, like if you look at those COVID drafts,
14:57the 21 draft and the 20 draft, there's a lot of misses, man. Like you could just tell that there's
15:04a lot of work guys that didn't get a chance to work out for teams. If you check the NBA and WNBA
15:10drafts from those two years, there's just a lot of swings and misses. So Nasir Little is a kid
15:15who probably left school too early. You know, he should have been, stayed his ass in North Carolina
15:20a couple of more years, got that season in, played under Huber Davis a couple of more years,
15:27and then probably been a higher pick. He had kind of established himself with Phoenix and
15:34signed a nice little contract, but he was part of that DeAndre Ayton deal. And the Suns,
15:39for whatever reason, just cut bait on him, even with, I think three years, I think he had three
15:45years, $7 million, something like that. Like he signed a little kind of an extension that was a
15:49minor, you know, a little bit above the minimum. So he got money because he had, you know, the
15:54contract, he had like two, three years left in his deal, but he's just got to find a niche.
15:59And I just think probably the best place for him is might be a team that he can get some
16:03significant minutes on. I don't think him playing for Maine is going to do anything good for him in
16:12terms of besides getting a 10 day. I think he needs to go to a team that needs, unless he's
16:16just like, hey, the Celtics may be offering, but that 15th roster spot is likely going to
16:23Lonnie Walker, you know, unless they do something with like James Springer or something like that,
16:28unless they make a move that's unexpected.
16:30Would they even keep 15? Like when you look at the money that the Celtics, you know,
16:35that the Celtics have spent and they have committed and you hear about the ownership
16:39and everything else, you see teams, a lot of times keep that 15 spot open just because they
16:44don't see it necessarily being worth anything. Or you, you keep a two-way guy in there where
16:49you can keep his days down and you don't have to pay him a guaranteed amount of money. Like it's,
16:53it seems crazy when you're paying Jalen Brown, you know, $50 million, Jason Taylor, $50 million
16:59or whatever, but teams will pinch pennies if they can. And they will try to make that
17:03budget as a wee bit tighter. So if they feel like, hey, we don't have any health problems,
17:09you know, you know what I mean? Like Porzingis is going to be a guy that you got to worry about.
17:12Of course, Horford is a guy with his advanced age. You want the profile of a guy that you want is
17:17probably, I suspect to be somebody bigger, somebody who played more 4-5 than 3-4,
17:22you know, a guy like Lonnie Walker, but every team is going to bring in a guy like that,
17:27you know, a higher first round pick, or even a later first round pick just to kick the tires
17:31and see if there's anything there. I'm surprised that Phoenix didn't keep him, but I think it was
17:34a numbers crunching thing for Phoenix too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And the Celtics, they added another
17:41Exhibit 10 guy, a big guy, Dimitri Skapincev. I just butchered his name, but I'm not too worried
17:48about it because he's going to be up in Maine and I ain't going to see him. So they added him to an
17:52Exhibit 10 contract. He's probably going to be up in Maine the entire season for the most part,
17:57but they'll get a chance to see what he can do in training camp. Don't have any realistic
18:02expectations that he's going to do anything. He played for the Knicks and got in like two games.
18:06And that tells you a lot because the Knicks had some serious issues at the center position.
18:11And he still wasn't someone that figured in any way, shape, and form into their future.
18:16And so the fact that he was available, I think says a lot about his chances of playing,
18:21but you're right, Vinny. I mean, I think the Celtics, as much as I think they like Lonnie
18:25Walker, I think ultimately they're going to keep him like close, but not occupying that 15th spot
18:32just because you're not going to get much bang for your buck in that regard. He's talented. Don't
18:36get me wrong, but your biggest need is in the middle. You're going to go into the season leaning
18:41heavy on Al Horter, leaning heavy on, you know, bigs that frankly aren't all that. I mean, Tillman
18:50I like. I think Tillman could be pretty good, but Tillman's got some health issues too. And Luke
18:55Cornett is Luke Cornett. I mean, he's your third center. As our boy Bobby Manning likes to point
19:01out, he's your third center. So what do you expect? And that's kind of my point. He's never
19:05going to be much more than your third best center. And so I suspect that the Celtics are going to
19:12keep that 15th spot open for the most part and hope that a really good big just happens to fall
19:17out of favor with someone and they can just scoop them up pennies on the dollar and just give them
19:22a little more depth at the big position. Because I still think the Celtics, they're going to need to
19:27add another impact player, someone who can at least stem the tide a little bit in that front
19:32court. Because I feel a little uncomfortable with their center position. I don't know how you feel
19:38about that, Gary. I mean, how do you feel about them in just that particular position? Because
19:42it seems to be their biggest weakness, an area where they might get exposed.
19:46Yeah, I think it's going to have to go center by committee with Al probably starting and then Luke
19:53and then Xavier, then our friend Nemeus Cata is still, he signed an extension, so he's back.
19:59So that's four bigs. That's four centers on your team. I don't know if you're going to need five
20:04out of a 15 mile roster. That's why I think Lonnie Walker's safe. I don't think, yeah,
20:08I think it's Dimitri kid is probably headed to Maine and just, he's going to work out with the
20:13team and obviously get a shot to play in the G lead. But I think they're pretty set on their
20:18roster at this point. Now they might keep some flexibility open just in case, let's say somebody
20:23surprisingly gets cut. Look at rosters like Oklahoma City. There's a couple of teams that
20:30got like 17 guys in there and they're going to have to make some serious, some difficult cuts.
20:34Now, so the Celtics, I think we'll wait and tell that like, you know, mid-October, October 20th or
20:40whatever, when teams or rosters are set for the opening night on the 22nd to set their roster,
20:48figure out who we can, you know, they can pick up, you know, maybe bring on to a non-guaranteed
20:56deal or even a G league offer or whatever. You never know. They might make a move with
21:02one of the two-way guys. You got the two-way guys with Anton Watson, Drew Peterson, and
21:09what's the kid from Alabama? You talk about J.D. Davidson. Those are your three two-ways.
21:19They could sacrifice one of those guys and get one of these guys that they like on a two-way deal
21:25if that goes down. So, you know, Grassley was going to keep his roster flexibility,
21:30but I think they couldn't pass up Lonnie Walker. And I just think they desperately need a guy like
21:35that who can get them buckets off the bench when Tatum and Brown are off.
21:40Did you just say desperately need it?
21:43For their bench? Yes.
21:44You did.
21:45Wait, this team won 64 games last year.
21:49Yes.
21:49They romped through the Eastern Conference playoffs.
21:52They walked through the NBA Finals. And we're using the word desperate.
21:57For their bench? Yes. I think they're-
21:59Context, please, gentlemen. That's all I'm saying. Context.
22:03Yeah. You don't want Jason and Jalen to be playing high minutes and Porzingis' offense is gone
22:12for the first three months. So, you need a guy to come off the bench. I mean, is that Peyton
22:16Pritchard? Sam Houser? But Lonnie is an athlete, 25 years old, who can get buckets. I mean,
22:24we saw him in Brooklyn the last couple years. And I said, he didn't play a whole lot of
22:28meaningful games because he's playing with the Nets, but the dude can score. And I think that
22:32that's exactly what this team has needed now for a while. They haven't had like instant offense
22:38off the bench. Because you want to be able to give those guys, Jason and Jalen, a break and
22:43still be able to competitively score. So, to me, I think there's a necessary need for Lonnie Walker.
22:51Well, whose minutes is he going to take? Houser's? Pritchard's? Because somebody's
22:55going to be watching while he's balling. It's still 5-on-5.
23:00Yeah, but I think it's a backup two. He'll be the two, right? So, if you play Houser at the three
23:07and you play Peyton Pritchard at the one, I think there's a slot there for him.
23:13Now, you know, I mean, you know, was it Reset? He didn't play much, but he did have a role early in
23:22the season. So, you can kind of slide him into those minutes. You know, they'll figure it out.
23:27They'll figure it out. Joe will play nine or ten guys. I don't have, I think that they'll be fine,
23:34but I think that they definitely need a dude to get buckets off the bench.
23:39Yeah, I mean, it definitely would help. There's no doubt about that. I just wonder, and we've
23:45talked about this before, Joe loves all his players, but he don't trust them equally.
23:51And I just wonder how that's going to play out because I could easily see a scenario where
23:55Lonnie Walker plays like two or three games and gets you like 11 points, four rebounds,
23:59three assists, shoot 55% from the field and 45% from the three-point line and then goes five
24:05DNP CDs. And you're just like, wait, what just happened? I'm not sure that Joe is going to,
24:12if Lonnie's going to get enough opportunities to gain his trust. I don't have any questions
24:18about Lonnie being able to impact the game when he does play. I just don't know if it's going to
24:22be sustainable. I think he's going to be just kind of a guy that they throw in here and there
24:27without committing to him.
24:28Let's look at the guards on the roster that they have. Okay, here are the guards that they have.
24:36Okay, so they're starting five will be Jason, Jalen, Drew, Derek, and Al, right?
24:42Yeah.
24:43Okay. Now there's Ron Harper, who's going to be there in a training camp. He's not making a team.
24:50Shady Davidson, Baylor Shireman, who's a rookie.
24:55Pritchard, Jordan Walsh, who's a three, kind of a two-three, but he's not really a scorer.
25:02And that's it. Those are your guards in turn. So who's a backup shooting guard?
25:09Probably Jordan Walsh. He's really more of a three than a two.
25:12So who do you trust? Do you trust Jordan Walsh, who's 19, still 19,
25:18just turned 20, or Lonnie Walker? To me, there's a definitive role for Walker as the backup two
25:25if he's right, if he's healthy, if he does everything he's supposed to do in camp.
25:30Because unless you really trust Baylor Shireman, we don't know yet. Like I said,
25:36like Drew Peterson, who's on a two-way. I mean, Davidson's a point guard. Shady Davidson's a
25:43point guard. So that backup two position could be, you know, or Jaden Springer, who's kind of
25:50your backup two. But Jaden's more of a defender. He's not a scorer. Now, he scored well in Summer
25:55League. He looked comfortable, you know, putting the ball in the hoop in Summer League, but we'll
26:00see what happens when camp starts. No, Springer, he's more of that Avery Bradley kind of backup
26:07two. I mean, he can get you some buckets every now and then, but he's in the league because he
26:11can defend. That is why he's in the league. No question about it. I wanted us to talk a little
26:17bit about the Celtics ownership situation. Obviously, everyone in a moment knows that
26:21the Celtics are available to be bought. And one of the leading names that has been talked about
26:27to become a majority owner of the Boston Celtics is Steve Pagliuca, who currently is a minority
26:33owner. But apparently, Steve, who already is involved in other professional teams besides
26:38the Celtics, as far as from an ownership standpoint, is apparently, or reportedly,
26:42I should say, in talks to buy the Parisian soccer team Red Star FC. Now, it is not clear
26:49how much of that team that he might be looking to buy. But obviously, the idea that he might
26:54be buying another pro team that doesn't necessarily call itself the Boston Celtics,
26:59it makes people wonder if maybe he's out of the race to be a majority owner of the Celtics. And
27:07what do you think about just the prospect of him having these conversations with another
27:14sport, another team in another country? Do you anticipate that might impact his interest in
27:20the Celtics? I'm going to start with you, Gary, because I'm going to start with you.
27:26Man, I don't know. I mean, honestly.
27:28All right, I'm done with you. I'm going to go with Dick.
27:34Pag wants to own the Celtics. I think he's putting together a group to make a competitive
27:39bid for the Celtics. So I don't know how much buying a soccer team is going to affect
27:44them unless he knows he's out of it already.
27:47And see, that's right. That's why I'm saying-
27:50We're not selling to you, my man. Get to stepping. And he's decided to
27:56purchase another professional sports team. But this ownership is not going to go fast.
28:02This is not going to happen fast. One, the NBA is very interested in this sale.
28:09Because one, they want to know how much it's going to cost. And they want to know how much,
28:15depending on how much the Celtics cost, how much they're going to charge
28:18the buyers of maybe Seattle and Las Vegas for the team so they can distribute the wealth to
28:24the other 30 owners. So the NBA is sitting there like this. Now, Silver's not going to get involved,
28:31but Silver might have a say in the ownership group or might just have some suggestions
28:37in terms of a price, because the owners want to get paid. Especially with this apron,
28:45everybody's up for a $50 million deal now. The owners want to make a killing off the expansion
28:52fee, because there's going to be two more teams. It's going to be Seattle and Las Vegas unless
28:58something really wrong happens, especially with Seattle. I think Seattle's a lot.
29:03So the owners are very observant in the commissioner of what happens in Boston,
29:10because this is a benchmark franchise. So it'll be very fascinating. Is there somebody who will
29:15come out of the blue and just say, here's $6 billion, just give me the different teams?
29:19Or is it going to be a group headed by a famous professional athlete or some famous name like
29:25Minnesota trying to do with A-Rod? This will be fascinating.
29:30But that's the thing I was going to say, Gary. The league does not want something similar that
29:35happened with the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves went initially for lower than what they're worth
29:41now. And now you've got Glenn Taylor saying, hey, I want to get back into business here.
29:46Y'all don't have the cash. Y'all don't have the liquid for this.
29:49It looks like they had a layaway plan for the Timberwolves.
29:53Yeah.
29:53You can't lay away plans for no damn NBA team.
29:57Look, I grew up on layaway. I'm off of that life now, but I'm just saying,
30:03you could lay away.
30:05For you, me, and Gary, that's one thing. For a damn NBA team, hell no.
30:09Show me the money. I need it right now. Put them bricks right in front of me right now.
30:14I ain't trying to lay away.
30:16But I think, A, nobody has lived like that up front anyway. Everybody's going to be on some sort of
30:23mortgage plan, so to speak. What the NBA doesn't want, and Gary has alluded to it,
30:29the higher—remember, the first team that went for an exponential number,
30:33I want to say was the Clippers when Steve Ballmer bought them.
30:37And they were supposed to go for something like 1.2, 1.3, and Ballmer paid $2 billion for them.
30:42So that basically, rising ships lift all tides, and every team subsequently, because of that—I
30:48think Houston went for a huge number after that. I think some other teams went for larger numbers
30:54after that.
30:54Milwaukee went for three or something like that.
30:57Yeah.
30:57Milwaukee went for three. So I think they're—and here's the other thing for the Celtics.
31:01How much does a team go for when you don't own your own building?
31:05That's a problem.
31:07And the building is old. The problem with Boston is, ain't no place for you to build another
31:11building, even if you want to get another building. They're probably not going anywhere,
31:15but I wonder how the building itself, the TD Garden or whatever the hell they call it,
31:19because they change the name every 90 days. You know what I mean? What this building
31:24means as far as that goes, and then subsequently, like you said,
31:28the NBA owners want their cut. They want their cash from whomever these new people are going to
31:33be. Don't forget, y'all, the NBA has changed their rules to allow some of those other entities
31:41to start buying into the NBA. The Saudis, you want their money to come into it. All money is green,
31:48to some degree, what the NBA is saying. So yeah, it's going to be very fascinating to
31:52see what this number is and who does it. Yeah, because I mean, the issue that the NBA,
31:58go ahead, Gary, you about to say something? No, go ahead.
32:00No, I was just going to say that the thing about the NBA, and you touched on this a minute ago,
32:05Vinny, about just them basically wanting to get paid, and hopefully they have learned from the
32:12mistakes that have gone through with Minnesota, because Minnesota was like the perfect storm
32:17for drama, a team that probably could have sold for a little bit more than they sold for,
32:23that the group that bought them basically bought them on layaway, and then acted like they owned
32:28it. This ain't Rent-A-Center where you can just put a little money down and you own it. No,
32:33that's not how this works. And then, you know, Glenn Taylor realized, maybe I shouldn't,
32:38he realized after the fact that he probably shouldn't have put them in play when he did.
32:43And now he's trying to, you know, play like old school Deion Sanders and go back in coverage
32:47and cover everything. Can't do that. You can't do that. The NBA is trying to make sure that
32:53the Celtics get it right. They're trying to make sure because if the Celtics get it right,
32:56everybody getting it right. They get paid, we all get paid. And you're right. I mean,
33:01I think Silver is going to be much more involved and engaged in this sale than he was in any
33:07previously, because this is one of your foundational franchises. This isn't just
33:12like a pretty good squad. This is like one of your originals, your OGs. And so it'll be
33:18interesting to see how that all plays out. I'm also interested to hear what Mr. Goodwill Jr.
33:26is thinking about heading into this NBA season. What are some of the storylines that you had on
33:31for Yahoo Sports? I mean, look, I think the Celtics are delightfully boring, right? I think
33:38the most interesting thing about their team is Jason Tatum didn't get to play during the Olympics,
33:45so he's going to give Steve Kerr 50 balls. And Jalen Brown, he was too black for the Olympics,
33:49so they didn't take him. All right, cool. Yeah, that's fine. Whatever, right?
33:54What? I don't know who the hell that was, but I know him.
34:00Me and him have been drinking before. I know that dude.
34:03I'm just saying. So no, I think the Celtics as champions are always generally interesting.
34:12But what's going on in Philadelphia, where you add Paul George to Joel Embiid and that band of
34:18merry underachievers, you know what I mean? Let's be perfectly honest, the 76ers have not gone to
34:24the conference finals since my junior year of high school, which was a very long time ago.
34:29Like they don't just have to get to the finals. They got to at least get to the conference finals.
34:33Like we haven't seen the Toronto Raptors get to the conference finals before and the 76ers haven't
34:38over the past two and a half decades. So I think they pushed all their chips to the center of the
34:42table. I think they're a fascinating team when you look at them versus the context of like the
34:49Celtics, when you look at Embiid's size and you look at Paul George against Brown and Tatum and
34:53how that matches up. And of course, you know, Tyrese Maxey, once again, taking more steps,
34:59you know, towards stardom. Like that's something interesting to me. John Morant going back to
35:03Memphis, like if there's something that we've learned over the past week is that if you don't
35:11tell us you're doing stuff on Instagram Live, we won't know what you're doing on Instagram Live.
35:17John Morant has figured out how to keep us off of his business because he did not go on Instagram
35:23Live with the audio, right? Or the video. You know what I'm saying? So I'm very fascinated by
35:29what John Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies are going to do in a stacked Western Conference.
35:34Like when he's healthy, when they're right, they got Marcus Smart over there who was supposed to
35:37come over there and be their vet and it didn't work out. But you still got the bones of a really
35:42good roster that can win 50 games and really be a contender in a Western Conference that
35:48I wouldn't say is top heavy, right? I think it's mid heavy. It's a bunch of teams in the
35:52West that can win somewhere between 47 and 52 games and be scary in the playoffs, but not
35:59necessarily a team that's teams that you would really fear. So those are like the two of the
36:03biggest things for me, you know, of course, you know, with the Knicks and then Jimmy Butler in
36:07Miami, this could be his last year. It's a lot of different things going on, but those two are the
36:10top things that I'm paying attention to right now. Summertime is winding down, but the college

37:36Gary, what about you, Gary? I mean, outside, I mean, obviously you spend a lot of time on
37:39the Celtics, but outside of the Celtics, what do you, what do you hide on heading to the season?
37:43Cause it's going to be here in a minute. Yeah. I mean, to me, the Western conference is looking
37:48at the West. I mean, it is a, it's treacherous because you've got, okay. Everybody's picking
37:56Oakland. Okay. Okay. Sees the vote pick to get to the finals. They got Alex Caruso.
38:01They got Isaiah Hardenstein. They got rid of Josh Giddey. This is the year they make the run.
38:06Jalen Williams going to take a step forward. Shane Gillis out there and taking that step
38:10forward. They're a good young team. They re-upped a lot of the young guys,
38:14but then what about Dallas? Dallas now with Clay, Najee Marshall and Quentin Grimes add
38:20to the roster. They get, they got kind of, they got rid of Tim Hardaway, Jr.
38:24Derrick Jones, Jr. But what about Dallas? What about Minnesota? Does Minnesota learn its lesson
38:29from that Dallas series? Is Rudy Gobert ready to make another impact and potentially a fifth
38:34defensive player of the year? Rudy Gobert, I mean, hey, he can go for five. He might,
38:42Vinny, he might be paying the five. So he might be paying the five. So if you're,
38:49what about Minnesota? And then what about, you know, OKC? OKC, Minnesota, Denver is in there.
38:58And then, you know, New Orleans with DeJounte Murray. Memphis is Memphis. Now that they're
39:05healthy, look, hopefully, I mean, I know G.G. Jackson's already out for a few months now,
39:11the young, good young prospect, but like Vinny said, Marcus Smart, John Morant,
39:16Brandon Clark is back after missing a year. You know, Jaron Jackson, Jr., are they going to make
39:21a run? There's just a lot of just things. Phoenix, what are we going to do? What do we,
39:27what do we think of Phoenix? Like, is Phoenix going to, you know, with their big three,
39:31there's a bunch. And then we talked about the Lakers and the Warriors. Are they going to take
39:36a significant step back? Is the Olympic thing going to help LeBron and A.D.? But it's basically
39:42the same ass roster. Like D'Angelo Russell opted in and them fools was like, oh, what?
39:47What? You sure about this son? Son, are you sure about this? You know, that fool opted in
39:56and so he's back, like, but it's basically the same roster as last year. Golden State,
40:01like, they lost Klay, but they got Buddy Heald, they got Kyle Anderson, they got D'Anthony Melton.
40:07Like, are, you know, is Jonathan Kamil going to make a step? Like, there is no, besides Portland,
40:13like, you could probably say even, like, there is no team, and maybe Utah, there is no team in the
40:19West, you're just like, oh, they're terrible. Like, they're not, like, San Antonio is going
40:24to take a step forward with Chris Paul and them young guys and obviously Wimby, you know, even,
40:30I mean. Everybody can't take steps forward, though. Yeah. It's going to be some teams that
40:33take steps back. But somebody is going to be a damn good 28-win team, like, because they go,
40:40they go take it on the chin a lot of nights, even though they're better than they were last year.
40:44But the West, to me. Gee, that's, that sounds like my sister talking to some of her home girls.
40:48Man, he a 5, but he a good 5. No, he a good 5. He a good 5. High-quality 5. That dude is ugly.
40:56There's going to be teams that are just going to take it on the chin,
41:01that, in the West, because the West is treacherous. I just looked at the West,
41:04and they're just like, you look at the Clippers, like, we don't,
41:07who knows? The Clippers lost Paul George, but they got Derrick Jones Jr., they got
41:12Nicholas Batum back, and who else? Personality. Yeah, I mean, apparently healthy Kawhi and James,
41:22and James, Desmond Tutu Harden, who did some, who did, who did Philadelphia such a favor by
41:29saving them money to sign guys. Now, he, he signed a two-year, $70 million deal. James is
41:39still taking y'all money, but somehow, someone put, paid him a, a sacrifice, a warrior, someone
41:47paid him, a team guy, for giving up a little bit of money so they could go after a couple, guys a
41:54couple years ago. How did that work out? How did that work out? James, James left, James got
42:02dock-fired, and then left on his own. Demand a deal. Trace, Trace, how'd that work out? But you
42:09got the Clippers. We, Tyloo's always been a high-level coach, so there's just a lot of
42:15happenings in the West. That said, we don't know about the Lakers, we don't know, is this the
42:20Warriors' last run? Are they gonna, are they a 40-win team? Are they a 48-win team? Are they a
42:2535-win team? It's just, the West, to me, is fascinating, because there's no, unless you
42:31count Oklahoma City, there is no great team, but there's a bunch of really good teams, and then,
42:37New Orleans and Memphis, you know, we ain't talking about Houston. Houston, I mean, you know,
42:43Oh, your boy, Emay? He wants to talk about Emay?
42:46Emay got his weaknesses, but Emay a damn good coach, and them dudes got
42:51He said he got his weaknesses, but Houston ain't gonna,
42:54being in Houston ain't a bad thing for Emay's weaknesses, huh?
43:00Let's move on. So, let's move forward. Let's progress.
43:04So, you were saying, Gary?
43:10Run to offense. No, get into the offense, Vinny.
43:13Omaha! Omaha!
43:16Don't look at me.
43:18We just run the triangle? We just run the triangle? That's all?
43:20Yeah, let's go. The shot clock's running out. So, like, we haven't even said, we haven't talked
43:27about, we haven't talked about Houston. There's, the West is fascinating. The East, I think,
43:33and to me, another story is Milwaukee. Like, I had, I picked them seventh in the East,
43:39and people were like, you crazy, you crazy. Like, you tell me, to me, okay, we talk about this.
43:45Like, you go, you got the Celtics, the Bucs, sorry, the Celtics, the Sixers, and the Knicks,
43:50okay? The Pacers, right? They gonna be in the top six, right? You think?
43:57Yeah.
43:57Okay?
43:58I'll buy that.
43:59Orlando, Cleveland, and Miami.
44:02Cleveland, I'm skeptical of. Orlando, I think. Cleveland, I'm not sold on them.
44:07Okay, so, when Milwaukee's top offseason acquisitions are Torian Prince and Gary Trent
44:14Jr. from a team that didn't do anything last year, they gonna go up? Like, they're a seventh seed,
44:20and they're old. So, to me, to me, Milwaukee's fascinating because Giannis is in his prime,
44:26but ain't nobody else. It's, you know, it's like, it's like Prime, Ralph, and the rest of
44:32New Edition is kind of a step slow. Like, Ralph is doing everything, and Bobby, Rocky, and Mike
44:39are like, oh, damn. Damn, we, you know, that was from the inning heartbreak hour. We ain't got them
44:46moves anymore. Like, to me, that's the thing. Milwaukee's fascinating. Then you got Doc,
44:52who's basically coaching for his coaching life because if they slip,
44:56Doc's gonna take the blame for that because he took the job, and so Milwaukee, to me,
45:01is another fascinating team. I said, I picked them seven people. Oh, he was crazy, but you tell me
45:07how they got better in the offseason. Like, who they-
45:09Are you saying that Giannis, as a top five player,
45:13relative health? Like, you're basically, what you're saying is either A, Giannis is no longer
45:20a top five player, or B, he's no longer capable of playing more than 65 games in the season.
45:26You're saying one of those two things.
45:28I say he's a top five player, but I'd say he doesn't have a lot of health. Brooke Lopez is 37,
45:33Chris Middleton is 32, 33, and often injured, and they didn't, they added Gary Trent,
45:41and they added Torian Prince. Those were two, they lost Beverly, and they lost Malik Beasley.
45:45So, I'm not saying those are huge losses, but you, Torian Prince, you know, like-
45:51You think that Dame is falling off?
45:53I think, I don't think it worked out. I don't think it's worked out in Milwaukee for Dame,
45:58although Dame is still capable of putting up big numbers and all that. To me,
46:03the depth of Orlando, and although Orlando needed a point guard and didn't get a point guard,
46:09they're gonna go, I guess, go with Anthony Black, the second-year guy. Like, Markel Fultz is still
46:13out there as a free agent. Like, they ain't got, you know, Milwaukee, I mean, Orlando needed a
46:18point guard. Cleveland just kind of re-signed everybody, but, you know, if they're healthy,
46:24they're a fifth seed, and then we, I said, Indiana, Indiana brought everybody back.
46:30They brought the whole brand back. They've re-signed everybody. So, to me, where do you
46:35put Milwaukee? Vinny, where do you put Milwaukee?
46:38I still pill Milwaukee in the top four. I think Damian Lillard, you know, coming off the divorce,
46:47not going personal, but he, it's public knowledge, you know, he went through the
46:51divorce last year. It was a late trade. I think if he is still himself, now he's a small guard
47:00who's had injuries, and at age 30, what, 33, 34? Like, you start to see the fall off. Like,
47:06you saw Gary Payton start to fall off at 34. You know, Jason Kidd was still reasonably effective
47:12at 34. Magic was retired. Isaiah was retired. You know, Allen Iverson started to fall off around 32,
47:1733. So, if he's going to buck that trend, because in large part, because he's a three-point shooter
47:24like Stephen Curry, although on a different level, and we're saying he's more comfortable,
47:28he's in shape, and all those things, I think you have two high-level players in Giannis and Dame,
47:34and in the Eastern Conference, that is going to give you a top-four seed. I have concerns
47:41about Indiana defensively. I have concerns about Tyrese Halliburton's health. Like,
47:46I think he was battling some stuff toward the tail end of the Olympics, even though he wasn't
47:50playing a lot. I still do believe that he was battling that hamstring, and you guys know from
47:55watching Kevin Johnson back in the day, when you have that first hamstring injury, you continue to
48:01have hamstring injuries. Like, it doesn't really necessarily, like, leave you. Like, Sherrod,
48:06you saw Chauncey Billups have hamstring injuries toward the tail end of his career in Detroit,
48:11and that kind of precipitated a lot of other things. So, I'm not sure Miami's going to do,
48:18like, if you're saying, you know, Terry Rozier, you know, with that, you know,
48:22Miami Heat sort of culture, and Jimmy Butler's going to play more than 65 games. All right,
48:26cool, but I would have to see it. I think if you have Giannis with health, and you have Dame being
48:30a reasonable version of himself, that's a 50-win team. Yeah, I think with Miami, I just think,
48:37one, Jimmy's, we all know, and you were, you've seen him in person, live and in person, Vinny,
48:42Jimmy in a contract year, because Jimmy about his paper, right? You're saying, you're saying
48:48Jimmy going to perform, or you're saying Jimmy going to agitate? No, well, he'll do both.
48:53Both. But he'll perform, because Jimmy's money's on the line, and the last few years, his money
48:58was not on the line, right? He felt like he did real good by getting into the finals in 23,
49:04which he did, because that was not, that was an A-seeded team, that was not a finals caliber team,
49:10but the Celtics tripped up, and Spoh outcoached Missoula, and whatever. But I think, one,
49:16Spoh's got something to prove, because Miami was this kind of lap, people aren't taking
49:23him as seriously as they probably should. Hero, Rozier, they lost Caleb Martin, but
49:30I think fully healthy, I think the addition of the kid Kalel Ware, him playing in the starting
49:37five and moving Bam to the four, is going to really unleash Bam. Bam's learning how to shoot
49:43threes, and people were laughing at me when I saw him in the Olympics hitting threes. I was like,
49:47okay, y'all think I'm playing. Well, it's a shorter run in the Olympics, but he's still
49:52hitting 22-footers. Bam, I'm not talking about he's going to be a 42% three-point shooter,
49:57but he is going to unleash his game, and I think Miami will be a five or six seed.
50:03So I just didn't see a Milwaukee do enough, and I love Dot, we all love Dot, but it didn't work.
50:11You look at Dane's numbers last year, Vinny, he shot 42% from the field after 46% the previous
50:19year, and 35% from three after 37%, like an average eight less points. Now, he took three less shots,
50:26but is that slippage? You know what I'm saying? Is that the slippage that we're kind of talking about?
50:31Like, that might be the slippage. You might be like, oh, you're right, Dane had some personal
50:36issues. Unfortunately, he didn't go. He wasn't in Milwaukee in a good place mentally. He had to
50:43leave his family. You get thrown into Milwaukee after being in Portland all those years. He
50:49thought he was going to Miami and being on South Beach. We know there's a difference between
50:54Milwaukee and Miami. You don't say. The only thing they have is they both start with M,
51:00in similarity. Yeah, like Chicago and Cleveland, where a convention is going to be next year.
51:06Big difference between those two places. Oh, boy. Anyway, move on, move on. I ain't having
51:12no Cleveland brothers after me. Cleveland got some dudes. I ain't having them after
51:17me, Bob Ripon. I'm good with Cleveland, especially security at the arena. I'm good with Cleveland
51:22security at the arena. Them Cleveland dudes at the arena be choking. Oh, the dudes with the
51:27jerry curl? It's not a jerry curl, Vinny. It's a slicked back. Oh, so a ponytail,
51:35and a ponytail, right? And that's 6'6", dude. That's 6'6", dude. The dude that's 6'6", height,
51:41and 6'6", biceps. Yeah, that dude. He looked like Uncle Ruckus, minus like the bad eye.
51:46Well, the fact is there's a list, Vinny, and I'm sure you have a list, too, of dudes over 60 that
51:54you still would not step to, right? It might be a long list, but there's a list. Yeah, I want to
52:01step to Paul Silas, and the man's dead. Exactly. He is on that list. He is on that. The Cleveland
52:10security guy, I don't know his name. He's a good guy. He on that list. He tell me if every other
52:16media member go in the locker room, and he tell me the locker room closed, I'm staying outside
52:20the locker room till he tell me it's open. Man, you better man up. Locker room closed for you.
52:26You better man up. I ain't stepping. I ain't taking the beat. I ain't taking the beat down.
52:33See, Gary, why do Gary got to turn me into Scrappy-Doo every time? You know what I mean?
52:37That's who you are, Vinny. You are. That's, come on.
52:40Vinny-Doo. That's pretty appropriate.
52:41Vinny-Doo. Pretty appropriate.
52:44Vinny-Doo.
52:46You are Marty Marr. You're the one challenging middleweight champion Tommy Hearns to a fight
52:52because he tried to flirt with your girl. That is Vinny. If that ain't Vinny.
52:57The brawl for it all.
53:02You call Tommy Hearns a get-hit man.
53:04Look, man, if a boxer hit on my woman, then I'm having to talk with my woman. I ain't talking to
53:15the boxer. That's a loser proposition. It's, baby, we leaving.
53:18Google Tommy Hearns and Martin, and y'all will come up with the episode,
53:21and y'all won't know what we're talking about if you don't know what we're talking about.
53:25To me, with Lillard, is that the slippage that we're seeing, or is that just a bad year? We
53:34don't know. I'm not making a determination, but to me, Dame is your number two.
53:42Middleton's the guy, and we've seen him. I mean, that dude, he is on the all-time Celtic killer
53:47list. We've seen that guy for years, put it down on the Celtics, but he's just not,
53:52he can't stay healthy anymore, and he's only 33. So we'll see. I just think there's too many
53:59variables for Milwaukee to say, oh, they're top 14, but what do you think, Sherrod?
54:05Milwaukee is going to be in that four through six range. I mean, a lot's just going to depend on how
54:10healthy they are, whether Dame can be Portland Dame or somewhere between that and what we saw
54:17last season. If he's closer to Dame from Portland, yeah, they're going to be top four, top five,
54:22but if he goes back and plays like we saw last season or worse, they may not even make the
54:28damn playoffs. They might be playing in battle. Facts. I mean, that's how important he is for
54:33what they're about, and if his game continues to fall off, they don't really have recourse.
54:37They don't have anyone they can look to and say, well, if this guy steps up, we'll be all right.
54:41No, they don't got anybody like that. I mean, if you're looking for Torian Prince to be that dude,
54:45you're going to keep looking. You're going to be looking for-
54:48My man Bobby. Hey, my man Bobby Portis.
54:51Yeah, Bobby. I like Bobby. I can't be mad at Bobby.
54:55No, we love Bobby.
54:56And you got Pat Bay about the locker room, so you ain't got to worry about that bit of
55:02are you listening to my podcast nonsense.
55:04We'll see. Who knows? Maybe Gary Trent Jr. has a career year playing on a minimum deal.
55:10It's just, to me, there's just so much variables that have to happen, and then you look at the
55:14other teams, like Orlando, Adden, KCP, even though, to me, it still bothers me. Y'all need a
55:22point guard. Y'all had trouble scoring, and y'all get a 3 and D guy, and y'all still ain't got a
55:27point guard.
55:29Ty Jones was screaming at them. I'm surprised they didn't go and get a Ty Jones.
55:33I don't understand Orlando. I guess Anthony Black's the answer. We'll see. He had some
55:38moments during his rookie year, and then Cleveland, and then Indiana. There's other
55:45teams. The thing about the East, it's going to be some cold days in Chicago,
55:53cold days in Washington. You don't know about Atlanta. Toronto, there's going to be some bad
56:04basketball in some of the East Coast teams. The West, I can't say that. The East, it's going to
56:10be some hard days.
56:15Well, that's good for us because that gives us plenty to talk about going ahead into the season.
56:20On that note, we're going to call it a day. Folks, thanks for tuning in to the
