00:00And America has a new president after the victory of Donald Trump.

00:04And because the Philippines has been an ally of America for a long time,

00:08and millions of Filipinos are in America, the question is,

00:11what is the possible effect of this on the Philippines and the Filipinos?

00:15This is what Professor Antonio Contreras will point out from Punto de Vista, Professor.

00:26Thank you very much and good morning, Diane.

00:30Although we hope that nothing will change in the relationship between America and the Philippines,

00:36and our president and other officials of our country have already said that,

00:41we should also be prepared for possible changes.

00:45One thing we should be prepared for is the possibility of mass deportation of illegal immigrants

00:52because we know that there are Filipinos in America who are undocumented.

00:58We don't know how many they are.

01:00So if they are mass deported, we should be prepared for that.

01:04And the other thing we should be prepared for, we know that the policemen of the Republicans,

01:10they don't tend to look kindly to official development assistants, to military aid.

01:16So it is possible that the field of aid of America to the Philippines will change,

01:22especially in our military relationships.

01:26This is important because we know that in the West Philippines, America is there.

01:31We have a mutual defense agreement with America.

01:35So we should be prepared for this.

01:37Now, it's too early, but we should be thinking about it.

01:42President Marcos did a good thing by expanding the alliance in the West Philippines

01:48that is not only focused on America.

01:50And that is the expansion of our friendship, our network,

01:56including Japan, Australia, the European Union, and other countries.

02:02We should not put our economic and military fee in America

02:10because there might be a lot of changes here.

02:13We should be careful if the changes made by the Republicans and Donald Trump

02:19are not in line with our interests.
