00:00The Republican candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump has won
00:04and the U.S. will once again become strong.
00:09What will be the effect of Trump's new leadership in the Philippines?
00:13Here is the story of Alan Francisco.
00:18The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has won and returned to the White House
00:23after defeating the Democrats' candidate, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
00:28Nothing worth doing ever came easy.
00:31Treat the word impossible as nothing more than motivation.
00:36Never, ever quit. Never quit.
00:39Adversity makes you stronger.
00:41Don't give in. Don't back down.
00:43And never stop doing what you know is right.
00:47This is Trump's return to the White House after four years
00:52of his term as President of the United States.
00:55If you remember, Trump ran for his second term in 2020
01:00but was defeated by President Joe Biden.
01:02November 5, 2024 will be Liberation Day in America.
01:07We all salute the same great American flag.
01:11Our best days are yet to come.
01:15Together, we will make America great again.
01:19And with Trump's comeback,
01:21it is expected that it will have an impact on countries around the world,
01:26such as the Philippines.
01:27If Philippine Ambassador to the United States,
01:29Jose Manuel Bebrum-Waldez, will ask,
01:32he does not see any changes in the alliance between the Philippines and the United States
01:36when it comes to defense.
01:38I was here during the time of President Trump.
01:42That alliance is really important for them
01:45because it's also in their interest.
01:47The defense, of course,
01:50during the time of President Biden and President Marcos,
01:54we can see that the defense establishment will continue to go along that line.
02:00A political analyst said that Professor Dindo Manhit,
02:03whoever won against Trump or Harris,
02:06there will be no change in the security and defense policy of the United States,
02:11especially in the West Philippine Sea.
02:12According to Manhit,
02:14the two parties valued the strong alliance in the Philippines.
02:18It will greatly help the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.,
02:24who is promoting the independent foreign policy.
02:27I'm confident that whatever party or whoever wins
02:31in the presidential election in the U.S.,
02:34we can expect consistency in their security and defense policy.
02:39As for the military,
02:41they also don't see any change in the cooperation between the Philippines and the United States
02:46no matter who is the elected U.S. President.
02:48It is also in the policy of the U.S. that the Indo-Pacific should remain free and open.
02:53Regardless of who's in the White House, I don't see any major changes in that.
02:57However, Ambassador Romualdez said
02:59that we need to monitor what will be the effect of Trump's actions
03:04on the economy.
03:05In the economy, we will have something that we have to watch out for
03:09because the policy of the former President Trump is different.
03:14He wants to return all the business of America to the U.S. companies that are operating in China.
03:21Ambassador Romualdez is confident that it is important for the United States
03:25to help the economy in Asia, particularly in the Philippines.
03:30I'm still confident that our economic ties in the U.S. will remain the same
03:35because Asia is still important for American business
03:38because it's a growing market.
03:40So if our alliance with them in defense is strong,
03:43many American companies are more relaxed and confident about putting up businesses in the Philippines.
03:52In terms of illegal Filipino immigrants in America, Ambassador Romualdez said,
03:56In the figures that we have,
04:00there are approximately about 200,000 maximum of Filipino illegally staying in the United States.
04:10But most of them have already filed for consideration.
04:16We Filipinos are not like other illegal aliens here.
04:23It's different because the Filipinos here,
04:26number one, we're very much appreciated by a lot of the Americans in their districts.
04:33The congressmen and senators are very proud of the Filipino-American community.
04:38So they are very sympathetic to us.
04:40I don't think that there will be really that intense type of thing that they'll go after Filipinos,
04:46Filipinos that are staying illegally here.
04:49But first of all, I always advise them that they need to voluntarily leave
04:56because if you really deport, you won't be able to return here to America.
05:00Meanwhile, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sent a message
05:05on President Trump's victory.
05:07President Marcos said that he congratulated Trump on his victory
05:11and on showing the strength of American values in the world.
05:15President Marcos hopes that President Trump will be able to work
05:18on expanding issues that have mutual benefits for the Philippines and the United States
05:23that are rooted in the desire of the two countries of freedom and democracy.
05:27President Marcos believes that Trump's walk will result in a good future for all.
