00:00Some of the early grave visitors in Marikina were shocked upon learning that the remains of their departed loved ones were exhumed by cemetery admin staff supposedly without the required permit or authorization to do so.
00:14Patrick De Jesus tells us more.
00:19Jasmine was supposed to visit the grave of her deceased 19-year-old daughter who is buried at Barangka Municipal Cemetery in Marikina City.
00:29But when she arrived, the tomb and even the gravestone were gone.
00:50What further upset Jasmine is she can find her daughter's remains.
00:59In one area of the cemetery, hundreds of human bones can be seen in sacks and plastic.
01:10The cemetery staff refused to be interviewed on camera but they explained the exhumation of remains is in compliance with an ordinance regarding a five-year rental period.
01:22However, according to the Marikina LGU, there is a moratorium on the ordinance as the cemetery is set for renovation.
01:31The cemetery management also doesn't have the required permit from the city health office to exhume remains.
01:38With this, the admin staff of Barangka Cemetery has been charged with violating the sanitation code and grave neglect of duty.
01:48I was looking for the permits that they said need to be exhumed but they didn't show me the permits.
01:56I'm still angry. It's wrong. It's disrespectful to the graves of our deceased.
02:03Some of the cemetery staff have also been dismissed.
02:07Some private individuals, the cemetery administrator, are being exhumed.
02:15They are exhuming the remains of the deceased.
02:19They are selling the remains of the deceased to those who are interested in having a good position.
02:26The exhumed remains will be placed in an ossuary.
02:30There will be proper tagging of the remains for surviving family members or relatives of the deceased who wish to claim them.
02:37Patrick De Jesus, from the National TV, for a new and better Philippines.
