00:00So, every year, it never fails, a new iPhone comes out, always a little better, a little
00:08faster and a little more powerful than the previous one.
00:11And we know it, Apple is the master of communication, they make incredible presentations with
00:17an unreal video production, they set up a table as simple and as pretty as possible
00:22to show that this is the best iPhone they have ever made.
00:25The most powerful and fastest iPhone ever designed.
00:28They do something else very important.
00:29Common practice, they give the phone to critics.
00:33They are not obliged, but they do, and all the people involved will have a date
00:38on which they will be allowed to talk about their experience with this new phone.
00:42I am a critic myself and I am a professional.
00:45Our job for a week is to do all our tests and discover everything, then
00:51to find the things we like and the things we don't like, as well as to discover
00:55all the new features and test them all in order to make a summary.
00:59This is an evaluation.
01:02If you are in time, you can publish it as soon as the signed contract indicates that
01:06you are authorized.
01:07You may have heard of it, it's called an embargo.
01:10It is this first wave of evaluation and impression videos related to a product
01:15that arrives at the same time.
01:16And the fact is that each of these evaluations is fundamentally a game of equilibrium,
01:22because time is limited.
01:23There is no way to significantly test each novelty of each new
01:28incredible phone that comes out.
01:30And even if you do, how long will it take you to transcribe all these tests
01:34and then analyze the results of these tests?
01:37And there is no time left for production, shooting, editing, music and all
01:42the creative choices you want to make.
01:44It's just too much for a critic making videos on YouTube today, it's like
01:50nine different jobs in one.
01:52So how do we decide what will be included in this assessment?
01:55Should we cut the video?
01:58Each review has its own style.
02:00Some assessments last 5 minutes and are very dense.
02:03Some can last 10 minutes.
02:05Even my own evaluation videos over the years have lasted between 15 and 20 minutes.
02:10But it is for the purpose of giving as much information as possible in as little time as possible.
02:15I don't want to waste your time.
02:16And don't forget that on YouTube you have to take into account the audience and its loyalty.
02:21A real balance game.
02:23Overall, an assessment is the art of compressing and distilling as much useful information
02:29as possible in a single video.
02:32But since it's an art, everyone will cut different things in different places and
02:36edit different videos.
02:38But not in this video.
02:41In this video, no time limit.
02:43There is really everything you might want to know about my last 5 months with the
02:48iPhone 12 Pro.
02:49And what I really think about it.
02:51Camera
02:54Experience
02:57Software
03:00Screen
03:10Very good.
03:11So now that the frame is set, I'm going to dwell a lot on all the little details
03:16and that in several parts of this video.
03:18You know how it works.
03:19But I think it will be pretty fun.
03:21So for the craziest people ready to watch this whole video until the end.
03:25You can see how long it lasts.
03:28Know that this is a good video.
03:30So hang on.
03:31But depending on your ability to concentrate.
03:33You can directly access the subject that interests you below.
03:37So if you want to get into the heart of a subject that interests you.
03:40You can.
03:41Do not hesitate to click.
03:43In addition, this video is mainly based on the iPhone 12 Pro with which I spent these
03:48last 5 months.
03:49But every time I refer to other smartphones in the iPhone range.
03:53The 12 Mini or the 12 Pro Max.
03:55I will mention it too.
03:56So let's go.
03:58Design
04:03So the iPhone 12 series has a new design this year.
04:07Which is always important in the world of phones.
04:10The design of the iPhone no longer changes as much as before.
04:13And I think it's important.
04:14The design is what most people are waiting for with impatience.
04:17And what seems to distinguish the iPhone forever.
04:19Think about it.
04:20Most of the time.
04:21When you see leaks on new iPhones or rumors.
04:24They are mostly related to design.
04:26You think of the new design of the case.
04:28Or the new dimension.
04:29Or what the rectangle of the camera will look like on the back this year.
04:33Especially because we already know that the iPhone of next year.
04:36Will be quite similar to that of this year.
04:38But we want to know how it will be.
04:40The look and feel in the hand.
04:42Is the last and most captivating of the unknowns.
04:45It turns out that I really love the new modern design.
04:48And super flat of the iPhone 12 series.
04:50It is still a rectangle with rounded corners.
04:53Available in different colors.
04:55But the sides are flat.
04:56They are straight.
04:57And the edges are at 90 degrees.
04:59This flat side has therefore become the distinctive sign of the phone.
05:03Just like for the iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5S.
05:07It is in fact even flatter than most other flat phones.
05:10Because instead of the 2.5D glass.
05:12Which is flat on most of the surface.
05:15Then curves at the edges.
05:16It is simply flat glass at the front and back.
05:18And a stainless steel flat strip on the edges.
05:21This feature has several effects.
05:23Firstly, it gives a little more internal volume with the same shape.
05:26Secondly, it makes the edges a little sharper.
05:29It turns out that I like flatter edges.
05:31Simply because I feel like holding something when I take the phone.
05:35But some people don't like it for the same reason.
05:38Because it can seem a little too angular.
05:40Too boring.
05:41As if it sank into your hand.
05:43I don't have that feeling.
05:44But what I like the most and what I like the least in this design.
05:47These are the finishes.
05:49All new iPhone 12 Pro have this kind of matte finish on the back.
05:53Which is nice.
05:54It's satin.
05:55So there is no imprint.
05:56No matter the light.
05:57Which is great.
05:58And the use does not degrade it much.
06:00On the other hand, we have a shiny finish on the Apple logo.
06:04The camera and the stainless steel edge all around.
06:07So the logo.
06:08It's ok.
06:09I understand.
06:10But they could have done the camera in matte.
06:12Because that's what they did on the classic iPhone 12.
06:15However, they opted for a shiny finish here.
06:18And added shiny and raised rings.
06:21Which tends to accumulate a lot of dust.
06:23Each iPhone 12 Pro which is left outside its shell for several minutes.
06:27Or put in a pocket.
06:28Will have dust around the camera modules.
06:31It does not really have an impact on the performance of the camera.
06:34So it does not matter.
06:35But the dust will be there because of the rings.
06:37The most boring part of the finish for me.
06:40These are the imprints on the stainless steel edges.
06:43There are really all the time.
06:44To such an extent that it is not even worth cleaning it when you notice these imprints.
06:49It's as if they had succeeded everything except that.
06:51The power button is a little bigger.
06:53And it's always nice to click on it.
06:55The switch of the sardine is a basic.
06:58And works as expected.
06:59I'll talk a little later about the rest of the buttons.
07:02But basically.
07:03My ideal iPhone 12 would actually be a hybrid.
07:05Between the Pro's matte back.
07:07And the photo matte device.
07:08And the aluminum edges of the classic iPhone 12.
07:11But guess what?
07:13Most people.
07:14Put a shell.
07:16Finally nothing of all this.
07:18Concerning the finishes.
07:19Concerning the adhesion.
07:20Or concerning the corners.
07:21Will not really matter to you.
07:23If you cover all this engineering.
07:25With the plastic shell of your choice.
07:27The size of the iPhone has always been reasonable.
07:29Even if it has slowly increased over the years.
07:32And that's my favorite size.
07:34Because it looks as big as possible.
07:36Before I have to start doing the gym of the hands.
07:39To reach the part of the notifications.
07:41And the elements located in the upper corner.
07:43For some reason.
07:45Apple simply refuses to adjust.
07:47The software of the gigantic iPhone 12 Pro Max.
07:50To really enjoy this bigger screen.
07:52Even the camera and the battery are not worth it.
07:55Given how unpleasant it is to use.
07:57The iPhone 12 Pro is therefore quite large.
07:59The iPhone 12 is identical in size.
08:01And the 12 mini.
08:02If you manage to manage the defects of the battery.
08:04Is the best compact headlight phone of the moment.
08:06I will put the link of my video on this subject below.
08:09Little things about the design however.
08:12It's a phone that costs $ 1,000.
08:14Let's not forget.
08:15It costs $ 1,000.
08:17There are therefore many high-end features.
08:19As far as the design is concerned.
08:21And this is the perfect video.
08:23To talk about these things.
08:24That we ignore and consider as acquired.
08:26The set is therefore waterproof.
08:28And IP68 certified.
08:30I'm not the kind to put it under water.
08:32To test.
08:33But it is capable of resisting dust.
08:35As well as a depth of 6 meters under water.
08:37For 30 minutes max.
08:40It's always nice.
08:41To have high-end phones.
08:42Who can survive a quick fall.
08:44In the pool.
08:45In the toilets or other.
08:46And in fact.
08:47I was also used to.
08:48To do a lot more tests.
08:49If you go back quite far.
08:51In my videos.
08:52Where I tried to fold the phone.
08:54And to see if we could hear.
08:55A flexion or a crack.
08:57Nowadays.
08:58Phones no longer have this problem.
09:00So overall.
09:01In terms of raw industrial design.
09:03The iPhone is exactly.
09:04What we could expect.
09:06It is good.
09:07It works well.
09:08It has a proud look.
09:09And still has the ecosystem.
09:10The most vast and dynamic accessory.
09:12The worst from a practical point of view.
09:14It's really this lightning port.
09:16In a USB type C world.
09:18But for most.
09:19iPhone users.
09:20It's by default.
09:21And we know.
09:22That Apple is trying to remove it.
09:23I'm going to put under the button.
09:24I like.
09:25Or here in the corner.
09:26The link of a video.
09:27That I made on this subject.
09:28But the best part.
09:29I always think.
09:30That it is the most underestimated.
09:31The haptic return.
09:32I put that in the design part.
09:33Because it's something.
09:34Which is there from the beginning.
09:35When Apple presents.
09:36The internal components of the iPhone.
09:37There is a really important space.
09:38Which is reserved inside.
09:39For a very large haptic motor.
09:40As Apple calls it.
09:41And it's really good.
09:42So.
09:43Instead of the old.
09:44Rotating vibration motor.
09:45The new one.
09:46It's the same.
09:47It's the same.
09:48It's the same.
09:49It's the same.
09:50It's the same.
09:51It's the same.
09:52It's the same.
09:53It's the same.
09:54It's the same.
09:55It's the same.
09:56It's the same.
09:57It's the same.
09:58It's the same.
09:59It's the same.
10:00It's the same.
10:01It's the same.
10:02It's the same.
10:03It's the same.
10:04It's the same.
10:05It's the same.
10:06It's the same.
10:07It's the same.
10:08It's the same.
10:09It's the same.
10:10It's the same.
10:11It's the same.
10:12It's the same.
10:13It's the same.
10:14It's the same.
10:15It's the same.
10:16It's the same.
10:17It's the same.
10:18It's the same.
10:19It's the same.
10:20It's the same.
10:21It's the same.
10:22It's the same.
10:23It's the same.
10:24It's the same.
10:25It's the same.
10:26It's the same.
10:27It's the same.
10:28It's the same.
10:29It's the same.
10:30It's the same.
10:31It's the same.
10:32It's the same.
10:33It's the same.
10:34It's the same.
10:35It's the same.
10:36It's the same.
10:37It's the same.
10:38It's the same.
10:39It's the same.
10:40It's the same.
10:41It's the same.
10:42It's the same.
10:43It's the same.
10:44It's the same.
10:45It's the same.
10:46It's the same.
10:47It's the same.
10:49The screen
10:50ah, let's talk a little about the iPhone's screen.
10:58It's always a hot debate subject because we wonder to what extent the screen is important
11:03for users.
11:05It's always been one of the most controversial things.
11:07You remember the iPhone XR?
11:09This is a phone that was launched at $ 749 and whose resolution has been
11:14is particularly low, with a slightly higher LCD screen than 720p, and the internet has
11:20gone crazy because of that. How could Apple, among all companies, have
11:24such a bad screen on paper, on a $ 750 phone, when almost all other Androids at
11:30this price, even some less expensive, had at least 1080p? And even I, I had this phone,
11:36and I was watching videos on YouTube, knowing that they were in 4K, maximum at 720p, which
11:41seemed to me to the limit of the acceptable, but it turned out to be good. People bought it,
11:48they appreciated it, there were blind tests that it succeeded. So it was as if all these articles
11:52and titles on this screen were useless, because Apple knew that people didn't really care
11:57about this kind of thing, as much as we thought. But it is the same Apple that produces an iPhone
12:0212 Pro with an incredible screen on paper with Dolby Vision, a slightly higher maximum brightness
12:08of 1200 nits, and a color accuracy of renown, and I guarantee you that these
12:13same people do not notice it. The question is therefore not to know if the iPhone 12 Pro's screen
12:18is performing, but rather to know how much people really care about these
12:23most controversial features. And for me, it's a more fun side. Thus, on paper,
12:29the iPhone 12 Pro has a flat 6.1-inch screen. As said, it's not too big, it's a 2532 x 1170
12:36screen , which gives an impressive resolution of 460 pixels per inch. It is an OLED screen
12:42with a maximum brightness of 1200 nits HDR and a contrast ratio of 2 million
12:47for 1. It takes charge of the P3 color range, the white balance auto settings,
12:52and it has an oleophobic coating resistant to fingerprints. This is what is interesting.
12:57There is a large notch at the top. So this large cut has been dedicated at the top of the screen,
13:02at the largest notch of all current new phones. Is it important? We all know
13:08why it is there. It's for Face ID, which hasn't really improved over the years,
13:12as much as I hoped. But it uses an infrared dot projector, a receiver and an
13:17ambient light sensor, as well as a 7-megapixel photo-selfie camera, a speaker and a microphone.
13:23We have the impression that this large notch has been erased from our peripheral vision.
13:27Notches have been added to other phones at the same time as the 10. And then,
13:32they narrowed them down. They did everything they could to make a smaller notch,
13:36then an even smaller notch, to get to a simple perforation,
13:39then even to develop a technology to place the photo-selfie camera behind the screen itself.
13:44The notch of the iPhone is therefore always exactly the same. It is huge.
13:49It is one of those things that, personally, I hate every time I look at it. But,
13:54I got used to it, and Apple has shown that most people are used to it,
13:59and that it doesn't bother them. It is part of the identity of the iPhone,
14:02and rumors say that it will become even a little smaller next year.
14:06But it won't disappear right away. Even if they put Touch ID behind the
14:10glass of the next iPhone, we will always have Face ID. So, it's okay. I understand.
14:16But I would really like Face ID to start working better. More precisely,
14:21from more different angles. So, when my phone is in front of me on a table or on a desk,
14:26I would like it to recognize me from this angle, and unlock itself without me moving it,
14:30or leaning on it. Because it is possible with other phones with a fingerprint reader.
14:34Then there is the refresh rate, which is 60 Hz. It is one of the most expensive new phones,
14:41not yet having a high refresh rate screen, as far as I know.
14:45Is it important? So, you guessed it, I prefer 120 Hz. Absolutely.
14:53This is what is best in most new phones, because it makes everything more fluid and more responsive.
14:58And once we go to 120 Hz, it is really difficult to go back to 60.
15:03Except of course, for the iPhone. The iPhone is the most fluid 60 Hz phone,
15:09so I have the impression that it is a bit like the best of the worst or the worst of the best,
15:13depending on the point of view. It is largely related to the overall performance of the phone.
15:17I'll come back to that later. But it is mainly related to the frequency of 120 Hz touch sampling.
15:22Which means that the layer located under the screen that follows the touch sampling of your finger and
15:27indicates the screen to respond, is updated twice more times per second than a normal 60 Hz screen.
15:32It is therefore very responsive and really adapted to the way your finger moves on the screen.
15:36And iPhone users are used to it. That being said, the iPhone could still
15:42greatly benefit from the 120 Hz display. I know this because the iPad Pro has a 120 Hz screen
15:48since 2017 and it is really incredible. So I am disappointed that the iPhone 12 Pro is not a
15:54better screen and I would be even more disappointed if next year it was not the case either.
15:59But you should know that the iPad Pro has an LCD screen.
16:02And what are the main reasons invoked by the iPhone defenders to explain
16:07why it does not have a 120 Hz screen? It's because he wanted to switch to OLED.
16:11Apple could not find a supplier capable of manufacturing as many 120 Hz OLEDs of
16:15high quality as necessary to meet these high quality control requirements
16:19and the millions of units necessary for the iPhone. Maybe next year? I really hope so.
16:25What I am going to say has raised great demands regarding this screen.
16:29This is Ceramic Shield. The front of this iPhone has this layer,
16:34called Ceramic Shield by Apple, which is not ceramic, but it is a kind of protection.
16:39It is still glass, but with this kind of crystallized reinforcement.
16:42And Apple's big argument during the presentation was that it has
16:46performance 4 times higher than the iPhone. So as I said in my first video test,
16:50I am not the kind to drop the phone again and again to try to see if it reaches this number.
16:55But what we have discovered is that it still scratches at level 6 with deeper scratches
17:00at level 7. And it will always break in the event of a fall. This is really not a magical solution.
17:05The glass is glass and it breaks. Thank you Zach.
17:08But if there is a notable improvement in performance compared to the fall of the iPhone 12,
17:12it is probably thanks to the new flat design. Since it is so flat, the edges are more likely to
17:18suffer damage during an impact if it falls. Unless it falls flat, which is unlikely.
17:23This steel edge will absorb the impact a bit. Or it may be the screen protector of your phone,
17:29and not the magic of Ceramic Shield. So even if I appreciate the efforts
17:34deployed to try to make a better glass, more resistant to the wind of the iPhone,
17:38it is not magic. And speaking of screen protectors, it is officially,
17:42finally officially, but officially, it is the new phone, the simplest to apply a
17:47screen protector because of its perfectly flat side. If you are interested, a little anecdote,
17:52the iPhone screen is therefore incredible on paper, great color accuracy, flat,
17:58very bright and clear, but it also has a huge notch at the top. It is always
18:03locked at 60Hz and still rattles so easily. It's green. Nothing crazy.
18:08PHOTO DEVICES
18:12Many elements are necessary to test a set of new smartphone cameras.
18:20And it ends up being the longest part of the evaluation because many phones have become so
18:26good that we have the impression that the camera is one of the last things that
18:29differentiates them. Here we are with the iPhone 12 Pro and its triple camera. So these are
18:34high-end cameras, but you already know it. Honestly, I could have stopped there.
18:38We know that we will get good photos, high-quality videos, and that we will have a good microphone.
18:44That's it. But that's not why you're here, is it? There is much more to say about them.
18:49Already, the iPhone cameras haven't really changed since they became very
18:53efficient a few years ago. If they don't have a problem, they won't improve them,
18:57which is funny because the jack sockets weren't a problem either, but I guess it's not the same thing.
19:02But the fact is that there will be no difference from one year to the next between the cameras
19:06because they don't have much to change. The size of the sensor will remain almost the same. It is
19:1012 megapixels with optical stabilization. This one has an F1.6 aperture, which lets in a lot of
19:16light, and it has a 120-degree field of view, 12 megapixels, ultra wide-angle f2.4, and a telephoto
19:22lens with optical zoom x 2.5 f 2.0, a LiDAR scanner, a microphone, and a flash to finish this
19:29kitchen. What we sometimes forget about the iPhone camera when we
19:33tackle all the technical details is that it is designed to be as simple, as easy as
19:39possible to use, while obtaining very difficult results to obtain otherwise.
19:45So when Steve Jobs unveiled the original iPhone in 2007, here is one of the slides he
19:50showed on stage. It is a graph of the ease of use versus the intelligence of an object.
19:55And of course, it demolishes all competition by saying that their phones are not very
19:59intelligent or not very easy to use, and the iPhone will be at the very top in the corner.
20:04It's just the presentation of an extremely scientific classic table from Apple.
20:08Even if it definitely catches up with the competition on its axis, when you look at the camera,
20:13just that, the iPhone always slides further, in this corner, more than any other phone
20:20today. This camera app has always been super simple. Everyone knows how to aim and take
20:25a picture and press to focus if necessary. If you need more settings,
20:30they are hidden, just a simple slide and a click.
20:33When you aim and take a picture, the software does a lot, thanks to the intelligent HDR,
20:37to the multiple exposure, to the calculation photography and to an excellent image signal
20:42processor that allows you to speed things up. It would be difficult to get the same results
20:47as the iPhone with any other camera system, with a simple aim and photograph,
20:51and that's what makes the iPhone strong. I would give it all the merit in the world for that,
20:56but what about the rare times when you want a little more customization?
21:00Or moments when you want to have a little more manual settings?
21:05And that's a bit of an Apple flaw, because the original camera app is not well
21:12supplied on that side. There is actually no Pro mode in the iPhone 12 Pro camera.
21:18Fortunately, they added ProRAW, which can give you a lot more flexibility
21:22in the editing process and there are some applications in the App Store
21:27that can help you take pictures. Basically, there are very good
21:31camera apps for smartphones, and I think that if you had to do a blind test of smartphone camera
21:36apps with a bunch of different phones or in manual mode to get the perfect picture,
21:41you could be surprised by the result. They would all be good, but where the iPhone stands out,
21:46is that it provides excellent constant results, and with a minimum effort.
21:51Every year, I describe the photos of the iPhone in the evaluation and it's almost always the same
21:55thing. They have this beautiful aspect, but without being too sharp or too processed,
21:59with a wide dynamic range and a lot of detail for such a small file.
22:03The iPhone is known for flattening images with faces,
22:07ensuring that it always illuminates all faces that could be in the shade or poorly exposed.
22:11It will always choose to sacrifice the rest of the image in favor of the subject or the face,
22:16which is the smartest thing to do in auto mode. But when you spend more than $ 1,000,
22:21many people will want to do more than just aim and take pictures.
22:24And this is where there are extreme cases where the iPhone's camera is beaten by competition.
22:30And the zoom is part of it. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is equipped with a digital zoom x12.
22:35There are currently phones equipped with lenses at optical zoom x10,
22:39which reach a maximum of 3 digits for digital zoom.
22:42There are others with an ultra-wide angle even wider, or others with laser autofocus.
22:48But again, when it comes to aiming and photographing,
22:52what most people expect for most of their photos, is most of the time.
22:58The iPhone is good. Now, the videos.
23:01This is where, for me, the iPhone stands out as having the best camera system on its smartphone.
23:06Because there is another aspect, which is taking charge of the apps.
23:10You have probably seen memes about
23:12the way an Android video is a blurry pixel search on Instagram,
23:16while the iPhone ones are superb.
23:19And there is a part of truth and also a reason behind that.
23:22The truth is that a video shot on a high-end Android and on the iPhone 12 Pro
23:28would be very similar, one or the other could win.
23:32But a video shot through the Instagram app on a high-end Android phone
23:38compared to the iPhone 12 Pro will be really very different.
23:42And that's because for years,
23:43most of the most popular apps with camera functions
23:46performed a screenshot of the Android's viewfinder
23:49instead of connecting directly to the flow of the camera as with iPhones.
23:53There was an article by Android Police on the fact that the Galaxy S21
23:57is the only Android that is not bad on Snapchat
24:00because it connects directly to the flow of the camera.
24:03It seems to be a step forward for Android and perhaps a new horizon for the future.
24:07But, this is essentially a question of development.
24:10If I create an application, in connection with the camera
24:13and that I want to develop a version of my application for as many users as possible.
24:18I'm going to create an iPhone version because the app will be intended for millions of people.
24:23And trying to create a bunch of new optimized versions for Android phones
24:27will only be a declining performance process.
24:30It's cool to make a version from time to time for example the S21 Ultra
24:34or at the time the Pixel which had the Visual Core.
24:37But the iPhone always seems to have this advantage in terms of development,
24:42for the moment at least.
24:44That's why I have an iPhone.
24:46That said, if you want all the detailed information on the new cameras
24:50as well as the differences that I found between the 12 Pro and the 12 Pro Max
24:54with a larger sensor, better stabilization and an improved zoom.
24:57Yes, I made a video about all that.
25:00But in the end, there are not many differences in most photos
25:04except in extreme cases where the Max stands out with sharper photos.
25:09Otherwise, do you remember Dolby Vision?
25:11And all this story about the fact that the iPhone 12 series
25:14is the first set of Dolby Vision certified devices.
25:17And suddenly it was going to become something huge
25:19and everyone was going to film in HDR all the time.
25:22In fact, this is not really the case yet.
25:25Don't get me wrong, the video files are great.
25:29Dolby Vision HDR videos from an iPhone look great on an iPhone.
25:34And if you send them to other iPhones, they will be phenomenal.
25:37But the second you have to export it and send it elsewhere,
25:41that's when the experience starts to collapse.
25:43The Dolby Vision video from the iPhone uses the HLG which means Hybrid Log Gamma.
25:48And without going into the details of the file formats and nits,
25:51these videos are simply not compatible everywhere.
25:55So if I film a Dolby Vision HDR video on my iPhone
25:59and I want to share it somewhere like on Twitter, Instagram
26:03or even on an Apple TV where it is not taken care of,
26:06the video is converted to an HDR image
26:08with all the HDR information on a standard dynamic splash screen.
26:13And for me, this HDR image doesn't look great.
26:16The Dolby Vision HDR video is therefore superb when it works.
26:20And I've seen impressive examples, even on YouTube, of HDR videos on iPhone 12 Pro.
26:25If you have the right screen or the right phone, then these videos are superb.
26:30But I'm still waiting for a better HDR,
26:32which is more reliable, to get a video shot with that,
26:37which is beautiful, which has an equivalent rendering through your eyes each time.
26:41But overall, the iPhone cameras are pretty good.
26:48MagSafe
26:53I think they shouldn't have ignored MagSafe.
26:55MagSafe is one of the most interesting features of the iPhone 12
26:59and not because it is extraordinary from a physical point of view.
27:02It's just a wireless charging washer with magnets at the back.
27:06It's simple.
27:07But in addition, there are rumors that Apple will end up getting rid of the charging port
27:12as soon as this year,
27:13which means that it could be the future of recharging on all iPhones.
27:17And then the fun part is also the potential of a whole ecosystem
27:21of magnetic accessories for iPhones that can be used via MagSafe.
27:24First of all, I understand why they called it MagSafe.
27:28It's marketing.
27:29But it's not quite as useful as the original MagSafe.
27:34If you use this MagSafe washer to charge your phone
27:36and you accidentally pull on the wire, the phone stays hooked.
27:40It's not much safer than a normal wire.
27:42That being said, it works.
27:44It hooks on the back, like this.
27:46It charges at 15 watts.
27:48And that's very good.
27:49There are a number of MagSafe accessories that are quite correct.
27:53Like this one.
27:53These are only shells compatible with MagSafe.
27:57So if you hook the charger to the back, it will be magnetized and will work through it.
28:02This is one of the real leather shells for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
28:07But apart from that, I was hoping a little that there would also be
28:11a real ecosystem composed only of magnetic accessories
28:14that would be placed on the back of the iPhone.
28:17So I bought this Belkin car stand
28:19with a rubber a little sticky on the metal
28:22supposed to hold the iPhone in place without any clamp.
28:24Which would be really cool just thanks to the MagSafe magnet inside.
28:28And for me, it was going to open a whole new world of things
28:31to stick to the back of the iPhone with magnets.
28:34And it barely works, sometimes.
28:37It will depend on the suspensions of your car.
28:39But for my part, my iPhone slides slowly while I drive
28:43until it ends up detaching from the magnet.
28:46So I have the impression that this magnetic charging washer
28:49is the best MagSafe accessory on the market, even 5 months later.
28:53Although there are continually new things
28:55on which I hope to put my hand, which look cool.
28:58There are also announcements
28:59regarding a more powerful exclusive magnetic device.
29:02I would believe it when I saw it.
29:04But to make it short, I call it an accessory now,
29:07but it could become a necessity in the near future.
29:11Because if the next iPhone really has no port,
29:14you will then have to recharge your phone wirelessly each time.
29:18So I guess this MagSafe washer will be the best way to proceed.
29:22But the big drawback is the charging speed.
29:24Wireless charging is quite inefficient,
29:27but innovations are underway within companies
29:29to have ultra-fast wireless charging speeds
29:32with a wireless charging of 40, 50, 60 watts.
29:36Apple doesn't do that at all.
29:38MagSafe has 15 watts, period.
29:40In fact, it has 12 watts on the iPhone 12 mini.
29:43And even if you plug in a block that is faster,
29:45it will limit the charge to 15 watts.
29:47In the long run, it is true that it is better for the state of your battery.
29:51And if you want your phone to last for several years,
29:54this is the charger you need.
29:55But sometimes you just want a quick recharge.
29:58The name MagSafe may come from there.
30:00Because it's safe for your battery.
30:07The battery
30:10The iPhone 12 Pro has a 3,687 mAh battery.
30:16On paper, it's actually pretty small.
30:19We are now used to flagship smartphones
30:21having between 4,000 and 5,000 mAh, sometimes more.
30:25Rarely less.
30:26But thanks to the efficiency of iPhones,
30:28to their vertical integration,
30:30and to their optimization,
30:31all the things we've been talking about for years,
30:33this figure is not really significant.
30:36Not as much as the actual daily performance.
30:40Cool.
30:40On the iPhone 12 Pro,
30:42I can have 6 to 7 hours of screen autonomy.
30:44Which is really good for a phone of this size.
30:47On the other hand, if I have more busy days,
30:49during which I navigate more,
30:51or I extract a lot of data,
30:53or I play,
30:53or I use the camera,
30:55it goes down quickly.
30:56The A14 Bionic chip is very powerful.
30:59It can lower the battery quite quickly
31:01and empty it in one day with less than 5 hours of screen.
31:04But for me, it's a pretty unusual day.
31:06The only thing you really think about
31:08once the phone is out,
31:09is the state of the battery in the long term.
31:12To be honest,
31:135 months later,
31:14it's still quite a short time in the big picture.
31:17As for the batteries,
31:18you'd rather have them last 3,
31:204,
31:21or maybe even 5 years.
31:22And the iPhone is good for that.
31:24And this iPhone 12 Pro that I use
31:26still displays a 100% battery state.
31:28And that's pretty much it
31:29as far as the battery is concerned.
31:31Apple is a bit in the middle
31:33in the field of batteries.
31:34I'm talking about it in the section on the MagSafe.
31:37But Apple has never been the leader of the sector
31:39in terms of charging speed.
31:41Same thing as far as
31:43the size of the batteries.
31:44And there are androids
31:45that divide the battery cells
31:47for the foldable shape factors.
31:49There are even some that divide the battery cells
31:51for a faster charge in parallel.
31:54There are phones with 50,
31:5660,
31:57even 100 or 120 watts,
31:58which is absolutely unreal
32:00and can allow you to fully charge
32:02the battery in half an hour.
32:04The iPhone has never done any of that.
32:06It's just a basic cell
32:08of modest size
32:09that lasts a reasonable period of time.
32:14The iPhone
32:18The iPhone is not just a material component.
32:21It's the software that runs on it.
32:24And it's the whole ecosystem that surrounds it.
32:26But there's not much more to say about the iOS
32:30on the iPhone 12 Pro
32:31that's really new.
32:33In fact,
32:33it's one of the things people like the most.
32:35It's incredibly constant.
32:37It doesn't change too much from one year to the next.
32:40And the old iPhones will literally have
32:41exactly the same software experience
32:44as the new iPhones.
32:45So all I really have to say
32:47about iOS this time
32:49is about the elements
32:50that were supposed to be new widgets.
32:53They finally arrived on iOS
32:55after having them on Android for 12 years.
32:58So when Apple comes late on something,
33:00usually there's a reason
33:02and they'll do it the Apple way
33:04or they'll do it better
33:05even if they weren't the first.
33:07And now that I've had them
33:09for about five months on the iPhone 12 Pro,
33:12I can say
33:13that they are both better and worse.
33:15The iOS 14 widgets are really good.
33:17I think, in fact,
33:18that their implementation in iOS,
33:20even if it is a little less personalized,
33:22seems a little more refined and controlled.
33:24As we can expect from iOS.
33:26But when I reviewed
33:27the new features of iOS 14
33:29in this video,
33:30we saw widgets integrated by Apple
33:33that had potential.
33:34There were smart battery widgets
33:36and useful widgets
33:37to get real-time information.
33:40They were all pretty clean
33:41and visually consistent.
33:42You can't always put them
33:44where you want them
33:44on each home screen.
33:45But that's the iOS method.
33:47It's up to our favorite developers
33:49to update their applications
33:50to create great widgets
33:52like on Android.
33:54So where Apple is less good,
33:55is that the widgets are less numerous
33:57and still not as customizable
33:59as on Android.
34:00But it's unfair to expect
34:02that my favorite apps
34:03are updated with widgets
34:04while Android had 10 years to do it.
34:07For example,
34:07for the apps I use
34:09five months later,
34:10there is a Widget Way on Android
34:11but not on iOS.
34:13There is that of SoundCloud on Android
34:14with useful commands,
34:16not on iOS.
34:17There is that of Asana on Android
34:19but not on iOS.
34:20So there are fewer widgets
34:22and less customization
34:23within the widgets.
34:25But overall,
34:26the quality of the widgets
34:27is a little better.
34:29It seems to suit Apple.
34:31That said,
34:31I was curious to know
34:32how many people
34:34really use them.
34:35So I did a poll on Twitter
34:37to find out how many of you
34:39use them on their home screen.
34:40And about 75% of you
34:42use them,
34:43whether you have Android
34:45or iOS.
34:46Which I found interesting.
34:48So we have the new
34:49app library on the right.
34:50It's not quite the app library
34:52that many of us
34:53like on Android,
34:54but it's getting closer.
34:55And it's useful to find everything
34:56in the same place
34:57without polluting the home screen
34:59or without having to
35:00create folders.
35:01The iPhone home screen
35:02will continue to evolve
35:04over time.
35:05And speaking of evolution,
35:07it is also the case
35:08for the ecosystem.
35:10You can't really talk
35:11about the iPhone
35:12without at least mentioning
35:13the ecosystem around it.
35:15The Apple ecosystem
35:16becomes a little more complete
35:17for the iPhone every year.
35:18This year again,
35:19they added the HomePod mini.
35:21They added the AirPod Max.
35:23And the AirTag
35:24we've been talking about for a long time
35:25may be coming.
35:26And by making an analogy
35:27with a garden,
35:28it may be the inside
35:29of this garden
35:30that becomes even more
35:31luxurious and beautiful.
35:33Or
35:34it could be the walls of the garden
35:36that are getting higher and higher.
35:38I think both are
35:40kind of true.
35:41The idea is that
35:42it makes changing
35:43more difficult.
35:44J'ai aucun problème
35:45avec le fonctionnement d'iOS.
35:47Il est assez avancé
35:48pour qu'à ce stade,
35:49tout changement apporté
35:50soit une petite fonctionnalité
35:51ou expérience.
35:52Les widgets étaient de loin
35:54la plus grande nouveauté,
35:55mais ils ont à peu près
35:56gardé les mêmes éléments,
35:57comme le geste de glisser
35:58vers le haut
35:59et la réactivité des animations,
36:01même si c'est un peu déroutant
36:02en passant d'un bord carré
36:04à un bord arrondi.
36:05Et ils ont gardé la base
36:06de l'interface utilisateur
36:07de l'appareil photo
36:08si longtemps que tout le monde
36:10sait comment il fonctionne.
36:11Je n'aime pas le bouton
36:12d'alimentation,
36:13car il ne fait pas
36:13qu'éteindre le portable.
36:14Il déclenche aussi Siri
36:16avec une pression longue.
36:17C'était bien quand ce bouton
36:18faisait qu'allumer
36:19et éteindre le portable.
36:20Mais la chose la plus frustrante
36:22dans iOS pour moi
36:23est que j'aimerais qu'il évolue.
36:25Ce ne sont pas les notifications,
36:28même si ça pourrait être bien.
36:29Mais ce sont les paramètres,
36:31car il y a tellement de paramètres
36:32séparés de l'application
36:34et déplacés dans l'application
36:35dédiée aux paramètres.
36:37C'est dérangeant depuis longtemps.
36:38N'empêche que l'iPhone
36:40est toujours un téléphone
36:41ridiculement populaire
36:42pour une raison.
36:43Il ne change pas trop
36:44d'une année à l'autre.
36:45Il y a peu de différences
36:46avec le dernier.
36:47On sait l'utiliser,
36:48on y est habitué.
36:49À ce jour,
36:50mes deux parents utilisent
36:51un iPhone
36:52et il serait très difficile
36:53de leur recommander
36:54de passer à un autre téléphone.
36:57Même si,
36:58cet autre téléphone
36:59est techniquement meilleur.
37:02Le coût du remplacement
37:03est très élevé.
37:05Et c'est volontaire.
37:09La 5G devient réalité.
37:13Ok.
37:13Donc, la 5G est enfin
37:16arrivée sur l'iPhone.
37:18La 5G est un sujet
37:19dont nous parlons depuis longtemps
37:21et de nombreuses promesses
37:22ont accompagné l'arrivée
37:23de la 5G sur l'iPhone.
37:25Ils ont ouvert leur keynote
37:26avec le PDG de Verizon
37:28sur scène
37:28parlant pendant un moment
37:29de la 5G.
37:30C'était donc très prometteur.
37:32Et la 5G
37:34vient de devenir réalité.
37:35Avec le recul.
37:36Avaient-ils raison
37:37lorsqu'ils ont dit
37:38que la 5G a été popularisée
37:39grâce à la série 12?
37:41Non, enfin, pas entièrement.
37:43Le déploiement de la 5G
37:45est une question d'infrastructure.
37:47Pour y parvenir,
37:48il y aura tout un processus
37:49de construction très lent.
37:51Elle n'arrivera donc pas soudainement
37:52grâce à un seul téléphone
37:54comme l'iPhone.
37:55Ceci étant dit,
37:56oui,
37:57il y a maintenant
37:58plusieurs millions de clients
38:005G supplémentaires
38:01dans le monde
38:02grâce à ce nouvel iPhone.
38:04Question plus pertinente.
38:06Désirez-vous la 5G
38:07ou avez-vous
38:08vraiment besoin
38:09de la 5G?
38:11C'est ça le truc.
38:12Nous avons vu
38:12des tonnes de promesses
38:13de cet avenir génial
38:14grâce à la 5G
38:16avec les robotaxis
38:17et les chirurgies robotisées
38:18à distance
38:19et un débit internet
38:20incroyablement rapide
38:21partout où vous allez.
38:22Mais comme vous l'avez vu
38:23dans ma vidéo sur la 5G,
38:25nous n'en sommes pas encore là.
38:27En réalité,
38:28le débit de la 5G
38:29n'est au final
38:30pas vraiment meilleur
38:30que celui de la 4G.
38:32Parfois, un peu meilleur.
38:33Parfois, pire.
38:35La rare exception
38:36est lorsque vous vous trouvez
38:37vraiment pas loin
38:37d'une tour à ondes millimétriques
38:39utilisée pour la 5G.
38:40Votre débit peut être incroyable
38:43jusqu'à ce que vous partiez.
38:44En fait, j'ai démontré
38:45clairement dans ma vidéo
38:46que si vous êtes à deux pas
38:47de cette tour à ondes millimétriques,
38:49vous avez un débit fantastique.
38:51Mais dès qu'il y a un obstacle
38:52entre vous et la tour,
38:53ou si vous passez derrière une fenêtre
38:55ou tournez le dos à la tour,
38:56vous allez perdre
38:57une partie de ce signal.
38:58Donc la 5G, c'est cool.
39:00La 5G est très prometteuse
39:01pour l'avenir,
39:02mais elle ne deviendra pas
39:03soudainement réalité
39:04à cause d'un seul téléphone
39:06ou d'une seule technologie.
39:07La seule chose que l'on peut dire
39:09à propos de l'iPhone,
39:10et c'est pourquoi ils utilisent ces termes,
39:12c'est qu'il y a maintenant
39:13des millions de personnes
39:14qui se promènent
39:15avec leur premier téléphone 5G.
39:16Certaines personnes vivront
39:18dans une zone couverte par la 5G
39:20et en bénéficieront.
39:21D'autres personnes seront
39:22dans une zone non couverte,
39:24mais qui sera sur le point de l'être
39:25dans les prochaines années,
39:26et elles en verront bientôt les avantages.
39:28Et certaines personnes vivront
39:30dans une zone non couverte par la 5G
39:32et n'en bénéficieront pas du tout.
39:33Elles peuvent donc la désactiver
39:35et utiliser l'iPhone
39:36comme le précédent.
39:37Petite anecdote,
39:38si vous n'êtes pas passé
39:39à un téléphone avec 5G,
39:40les millions de personnes
39:41qui viennent de quitter
39:42le réseau 4G
39:43avec leur iPhone 5G
39:44ont en fait amélioré
39:45un peu le débit 4G.
39:46Ils ont bien réussi à minimiser
39:48l'effet de la 5G
39:49sur la durée de vie de la batterie.
39:51La durée de vie de la batterie
39:52des premiers téléphones 5G
39:54et aussi 4G
39:55était moins bonne
39:56due à l'inefficacité
39:57de la recherche constante
39:58d'un signal 5G.
39:59Vous avez peut-être vu
40:00ce tweet supprimé de Verizon
40:01demandant aux gens
40:02de désactiver la 5G
40:03pour améliorer
40:04la durée de vie de la batterie.
40:06Mais l'iPhone gère en fait
40:07très bien la consommation d'énergie.
40:09C'est désormais connu
40:10qu'en fait,
40:11il ne se connecte pas
40:12à la 5G en permanence.
40:14Elle s'active quand vous téléchargez
40:15quelque chose
40:16ou que vous utilisez
40:17beaucoup de données
40:17et que vous en avez donc besoin.
40:19Autrement,
40:19le logo 5G peut s'afficher
40:21mais sans y être connecté,
40:23ce qui économise de la batterie.
40:24Vous ne le remarquerez probablement pas.
40:26L'effet sur la durée de vie
40:28de la batterie
40:29a donc été minime
40:30et un pas en avant
40:31a été fait vers l'adoption
40:32de la 5G
40:33par les internautes
40:34dans le monde entier.
40:36Mais c'est clairement pas
40:36devenu réel tout d'un coup.
40:40Les Gates
40:44Ok, donc,
40:45vous savez que chaque année,
40:46dès qu'un nouvel iPhone sort,
40:48une recherche rapide et énorme
40:49est lancée pour détecter
40:50littéralement tout ce qui pourrait
40:52ne pas fonctionner
40:53avec ce nouveau téléphone.
40:54Et s'il y a quelque chose,
40:56ça fait la une.
40:57Et nous essayons tous
40:58de trouver de nouvelles controverses.
41:00La force du signal diminue
41:02lorsque je tiens le téléphone
41:03antenne gate.
41:04Certains ont des problèmes de charge,
41:06charge gate.
41:07Il peut être plié en deux,
41:08c'est le pliage gate.
41:10J'ai fait une vidéo
41:11sur les Gates de l'iPhone
41:12si ça vous intéresse.
41:13Mais cette année a été
41:15plutôt calme.
41:16Pas vrai ?
41:17Il n'y a pas trop de controverses
41:18sur cet iPhone
41:19et j'ai l'impression
41:19que ce n'est pas normal.
41:20J'ai l'impression qu'il doit
41:22toujours y avoir quelque chose.
41:23Quelque chose pour que les chaînes YouTube
41:25puissent faire des vues.
41:26Il doit y avoir une controverse
41:28dont nous pouvons parler.
41:30Mais laquelle ?
42:07il a chaque année.
42:08Nous savions qu'il n'opterait jamais
42:09pour l'USB-C pour l'iPhone.
42:11C'est pas une controverse.
42:12En fait, vous savez quoi?
42:14Je pense que je sais.
42:15Je pense qu'une vraie controverse
42:19est celle qui suscite une réponse
42:21de la part d'Apple.
42:23Il faut vraiment en arriver à là.
42:26Vous devez trouver un truc considérable
42:28que les ingénieurs d'Apple
42:29n'ont pas trouvé
42:29et leurs testeurs n'ont plus
42:31une omission si grande
42:32qu'Apple se doit de corriger
42:34et de vous répondre.
42:35Ça,
42:36ça serait une controverse.
42:37Peut-être que le seul truc
42:39qui serait une controverse
42:41serait
42:44le chargeur.
42:46Il n'y a donc pas de chargeur
42:47dans la boîte de la série iPhone 12.
42:49Et donc c'était assez important
42:51mais ça n'a pas suscité
42:52de réaction de la part d'Apple
42:54parce que c'était si important
42:55qu'il fallait une sorte de pré-réaction
42:57qui a été une explication
42:58des motivations d'Apple
43:00durant la Keynote.
43:01Nous les avons donc vu
43:02parler de l'environnement.
43:04Moins de chargeurs dans la boîte
43:05signifie moins de déchets électroniques
43:07lorsque les gens les jettent,
43:08moins d'espace perdu avec les emballages
43:10et plus d'iPhone expédiés par camion,
43:12par train, par avion, par palette,
43:14donc plus d'efficacité
43:15tout en sauvant le monde.
43:16Lorsque vous analysez cela,
43:18oui, vous évitez des déchets électroniques
43:20en n'expédiant pas d'adaptateurs secteur
43:22que les gens pourraient jeter
43:23s'ils n'en ont pas besoin.
43:25Mais, d'un autre côté,
43:27le câble fourni avec l'iPhone
43:28est un câble USB-C vers Lightning
43:31et la plupart des propriétaires d'iPhone
43:33n'ont pas de chargeur USB-C.
43:34Ils doivent donc acheter
43:36cet adaptateur secteur USB-C,
43:38ce qui représente plus d'emballages
43:40et plus d'argent,
43:41et maintenant ils jettent leurs vieux adaptateurs
43:44et ça ne fait donc vraiment aucune différence.
43:46Même si nous détestons tout cela
43:48et que nous pouvons voir les choses
43:49du point de vue de l'environnement,
43:51nous pouvons aussi voir
43:53à quel point cette situation
43:54commence déjà à devenir normale.
43:56Puisque cet iPhone est livré
43:58dans une petite boîte sans chargeur,
43:59le Xiaomi Mi 11 est également expédié
44:01dans une petite boîte sans chargeur,
44:03mais un chargeur peut vous être fourni
44:05si vous le demandez.
44:06Et pareil pour la série Galaxy S21,
44:08mais aucun chargeur n'est offert.
44:10Quand Apple fait quelque chose,
44:11le reste du secteur le remarque,
44:13ils regardent tous,
44:15et souvent ils réagissent.
44:16Et donc, tout comme nous l'avons vu
44:18avec la prise Jack,
44:19il y avait comme une période tampon
44:20d'environ un an
44:21où ils pouvaient se moquer
44:22de ce qu'Apple faisait
44:23avec la prise Jack
44:24avant de supprimer
44:25toute leur publicité moqueuse
44:26et de copier l'idée
44:27sur leur prochain téléphone.
44:29J'ai l'impression que le tampon
44:30est plus court avec celui-ci,
44:32mais la différence avec cette tendance,
44:34c'est toute l'innovation observée
44:36ces dernières années
44:37dans la technologie de batterie
44:39et de charge,
44:40et cette course pour avoir le téléphone
44:41avec le chargement le plus rapide,
44:44est-ce que ça va s'arrêter ?
44:45J'espère que non.
44:46C'est donc ce qui en fait
44:47vraiment une controverse pour ma part.
44:50Ce n'est pas seulement le fait
44:51qu'Apple ne fournisse plus de chargeurs
44:53avec le téléphone,
44:54et oulala qu'il semble vraiment avare,
44:56mais c'est l'effet ricochet
44:58que cela a inévitablement provoqué
46:30comme promis.
46:31Cool.
46:32Et voilà.
46:33Merci à vous.
46:34Maintenant, un mot du seul sponsor
46:35assez courageux pour finir
46:37cette gigantesque vidéo.
46:38Express VPN.
46:39Merci au sponsor.
46:41Express VPN.
46:42Petite question.
46:43Comment avez-vous choisi
46:44le fournisseur d'accès internet

46:50ou si vous l'aviez,
46:51vous avez de la chance
46:52car en général,
46:52vous n'avez pas le choix.
46:53Et donc ces fournisseurs
46:55de services internet
46:56ont le monopole
46:57dans les zones qu'ils desservent.
46:58S'ils font des choses
46:59avec lesquelles vous n'êtes pas d'accord
47:00ou s'ils commencent à suivre
47:01tous les sites web que vous visitez,
47:03même en mode privé,
47:04qu'allez-vous faire ?
47:05Changer ?
47:06Vous ne pouvez pas.
47:07Si vous utilisez Express VPN,
47:09il réécrit votre connexion
47:10via un serveur crypté sécurisé
47:12et votre fournisseur ne peut rien voir.
47:13Et aussi,
47:14réécrire votre connexion
47:15via un autre serveur
47:16peut en fait être plutôt amusant.
47:18Si je veux regarder Modern Family
47:20et que la série n'y est pas
47:21sur le Netflix américain,
47:22aucun problème.
47:23Je me connecte à un serveur au Royaume-Uni,
47:25je rafraîchis
47:26et je peux la regarder.
47:27C'est pas un cas isolé.
47:29Vous pouvez avoir des milliers de séries
47:30sur Netflix
47:31qui sont débloquées
47:32en changeant de position
47:33avec Express VPN.
47:34Si vous ne voulez pas
47:35que votre fournisseur
47:36exerce un contrôle total
47:37et vous piste
47:38et que vous voulez débloquer des séries,
47:40il n'y a pas de question à se poser.
