00:00Hey, this is Anthony with RevZilla, where you watch, decide, and ride.
00:03Welcome to our detailed breakdown of the new LS2 Metro Modular Helmet, available at RevZilla.com.
00:10This is the new Metro, new for 2016, from LS2, coming in around the $2 to $250 mark,
00:19and it is a modular helmet.
00:21As you heard me say, what does that mean?
00:22It means that the chin bar goes up like that.
00:25Some people love this, especially commuting and touring riders, and what's cool about
00:28this helmet is it's DOT and EC rated, but it's also carrying that rating with the full
00:32chin bar removed.
00:33So you can pull it off, there are tabs in the box to seal up some of the holes.
00:37It is all in a rock solid modular helmet with a drop down sun visor.
00:41So again, you're getting a bit of that fighter pilot look, and you can tell out of the gates
00:44that I'm a fan of it.
00:45If we look at it, I actually think that it has a pretty aggressive line to it.
00:49I think that's one of the things that pops for this helmet, besides the premium cable
00:52actuated drop down sun visor, I think overall the look of it's really nice.
00:56A lot of times we see modular helmets that I would put in the grandmother's pearls category.
01:01I don't want to wear grandmother's pearls.
01:02Grandmother can wear them.
01:03But when I look at this helmet, I think it's a little bit more aggressive, it has a little
01:07bit more of a futuristic line, it has the features I'm looking for, and it won't break
01:10the bank.
01:11It's in that $200 to $300 mark, which again is up against Nolan, up against HJC.
01:15You're going to see it play in that pool, which I'm a fan of.
01:18Now it's poly carb, three shells, three pounds, 12 ounces, which is heavier than a normal
01:22full face helmet, but that's normal for a modular helmet.
01:25There are modulars we have that are over four pounds.
01:27Three pounds, 12 is actually not doing too bad.
01:29Keep that in mind.
01:30Also, if I look at it, the other thing that jumps out at me that I really like is the
01:34vent scheme on this helmet.
01:35You have rock solid venting.
01:37The only thing I don't like on this helmet, the big glaring thing that I think they've
01:40missed on, is the fact that these are huge vents, venting a ton of air, but modular riders
01:44typically ride multiple seasons of the year, and I can't close these vents.
01:47So depending on how annoying that might be for you, that's something you want to keep
01:50in mind.
01:51Big vents on the side, great airflow to the face, but you can't shut them off unless you
01:55want to get some tape out and tape behind them, but I don't know, I'm not into taping
01:58my helmets.
01:59Now, keep this in mind when we think about this helmet, fit scheme, intermediate oval
02:03head shape.
02:04On the website from LS2, it says long oval.
02:07Incorrect.
02:08We put it on our head, it's going to fit a little bit more intermediate, little bit longer
02:11front to back, but not extreme and long like we saw on something like the MX453, or what
02:16we consider to be really long oval helmets.
02:18If you know you're long oval, you are narrow and thin, this helmet is not going to be that
02:22shape.
02:23This is going to be just like my head, a little bit longer front to back, not overly round.
02:27Closer to the middle of the fairway, which is going to fit more of the U.S. market.
02:30So actually, we were very happy when we refuted the fact that they thought it was long oval.
02:35Remember, use the size chart, we'll ship for free over $39, and as always, click our logo,

02:42Metro from LS2.
02:43Now, if we think about some of the other features here, let's walk through it.
02:46I've talked about the venting scheme on the chin, but I haven't talked about the main
02:49vent in the middle.
02:50This is going to vent to my visor, or my shield.
02:53The cool part about this is it uses the Fogfighter, which is their version of pinlock, and you're
02:57going to get that stock.
02:59So what you have is a city position in the front with a lock, you can crack it, put city
03:03position, you can open up this vent, but you're also, I don't have it installed, notice the
03:06pinlock posts here, and I shouldn't call them, somebody's going to yell at me, they're Fogfighter
03:10posts.
03:11But what it is, is a second layer, which is optically correct, it goes on the inside,
03:14creates that double paned window effect, and you don't get fogging on your shield, which
03:18is awesome.
03:19That is a great feature for this helmet, especially at this price.
03:22When I open it up, notice, oh, it's detents.
03:25Detents all around.
03:26I like detents because then you can manage where you want it to go.
03:29Notice we do have our drop down sun visor, this is a removable breath guard here, right
03:32in the middle, and I have a nice gasket moving all the way around my shield, so I'm creating
03:37a good seal.
03:38If I'm getting rained on, it's going to have a harder time permeating.
03:41Now I did show you that really briefly, check this out.
03:43On the side here, where my finger is, this is a premium drop down.
03:46Some guys use spring loaded, some guys use cable.
03:48I personally like the cable actuation, as long as it goes down far enough, which this
03:51helmet does, I get my smoked shield on the inside, the best of both worlds, and again,
03:56the weight of this helmet really isn't that heavy for being modular and having a drop
04:00down sun visor.
04:01Again, fan of how they've done that, very, very smooth, it's not going to annoy you by
04:05clicking your ear every time you do it.
04:07Other things, as I work my way back, notice this is the matte black version of this helmet,
04:10they're a handful of solids.
04:12You do have some graphics, they go up a bit in price.
04:14Big scoops here on the top, which are going to be open and closable.
04:17The vents have a light spring loading to them.
04:19I think they're going to be big enough to find with a glove, but they're not the easiest
04:23to operate, but again, not really complaining that they're not the Rolls Royce, the vent
04:27actuators at around the $200 mark, can't get upset there.
04:30Moving into the back, big passive vents along the backside here, Venturi effects, going
04:33to scoop warm, moist air out, pull it away, and again, you can see how it comes together.
04:37I like the shape of this helmet.
04:39I think a lot of these modular helmets at this price tend to be really stodgy and basic.
04:43This one has a little bit of a Cobra Commander look to it.
04:45I think this is the fighter pilot that rode the Raptor and GI Joe toys back when I was
04:49a kid.
04:50Again, a little bit of Top Gun, I like a little bit of Top Gun, that's why I ride a motorcycle,
04:54maybe my helmet matches, maybe yours would too, if that suits you.
04:57Now, one of the things that's cool here, check this out.
04:59I open this up on the front, I'm going to open up the chin bar, here we go there, I
05:03found my ... Notice how it all comes together, and remember, there's a locking mechanism,
05:07there it is, it should be right over on this side, I can lock that chin bar in the up position
05:10if I want, or I can unlock it.
05:12I will tell you that I'm not going to struggle through changing, there we go, changing the
05:16shield change mechanism on the fly.
05:18Not the easiest one I've seen, but it matters a lot less because you have a drop down smoke
05:22sun visor, keep that in mind.
05:23That's why I don't really care that it's not the easiest shield change mechanism, because
05:26ultimately what I'm investing in this helmet and the fact that it has that other functionality
05:30really makes it a moot point.
05:31Now, if I pull over my donut, notice, another polarizing feature.
05:35Some guys in the States like micrometrics, some guys don't, and some gals, I know, ladies,
05:39sorry, I didn't mean to leave you out, I just said guys, use it for everybody.
05:42I like the design of this, but ultimately, from a micrometric standpoint, it is using
05:48that double construction, which means it's harder to accidentally open it.
05:51Some people just like the safety of double D-rings, that's going to be your preference.
05:54Now if we look at it, and I open it back up here, let's begin to pull everything out,
05:58let's pull the guts.
05:59Pulling my guts out, I have my cheek pads, when they decide to come out for me, there
06:04we go.
06:05I have to undo this part, there we go.
06:07It's a little bit, because it's a micrometric, it's going to be a little harder to do.
06:10Notice my cheek pad comes out there, I do have a hole for a speaker pocket if I want
06:15to put a Bluetooth comm unit on this helmet.
06:17It's going to be a little harder to do it at the neck roll, you'll probably end up sticky
06:20mounting it, but that's fine with me because it is a modular.
06:23On this side it's going to be even harder, there we go.
06:26Nice basic contour, you're going to have a very suede material that is going to pull
06:31moisture away, but feel very, very comfortable against your face.
06:34If I dig in here a little bit further, the neck roll does come out I believe, but it's
06:38a little harder you see here.
06:39I'm not going to struggle with the neck roll right now, but I will take out the comfort
06:43liner.
06:44The neck roll is more of a Schubert style, notice that it comes off like that, there
06:47we go.
06:48I'm a complete liar, but notice that comes out there, it creates a solid seal, there's
06:52my reflectivity.
06:53I didn't want to struggle with this guy and accidentally break it.
06:56If I pull it out right like that, you notice there's my comfort liner, it snaps in at the
07:02front, getting the pressure points away from your head.
07:04There's not going to be snaps in this, I'm manhandling this thing right now.
07:07That would be my line of the day, I'm now the manhandler.
07:10Leave that alone, but notice, thin, it's lightweight, big cutouts that are going to flow air all
07:14the way through.
07:15Again, we see a lot of technology for helmets at this point, really starting to get to the
07:20point where the arms race is over.
07:22A lot of them are rock solid, they're going to be digitally molded, you're going to have
07:25big cutaways to flow air.
07:26It's not the competitive advantage for the interior that it used to be unless you get
07:30really into the high end.
07:31Then you do have this red lining on the inside of the helmet covering up the vents, covering
07:35up the white EPS, again, venting directly through the shell.
07:39Not my favorite thing in the world, but I really don't care that much about an extra
07:42layer of mesh on the inside keeping everything together.
07:45Remember, my big nitpick here was the non-closability of these vents in the front.
07:50Other than that, I think you've heard me be pretty positive about a polycarb that's reasonably
07:53lightweight that is modular, DOT, ECE, allowing you to remove the chin bar, and has a little
07:57bit of a cobra commander to it, slash top gun, slider you stink, no more top gun jokes
08:02today.
