00:00My dude Cody Decker from Mad Dog Radio on Sirius XM always joins us to talk baseball
00:08and he just told me he was born the year I graduated college at Indiana University in
00:15the Big Ten.
00:16I graduated the year he came out of his mother's womb.
00:19That's how old I am.
00:21Oh my God.
00:22What a slap in the face that was.
00:24He doesn't remember the 78 World Series because he wasn't alive.
00:28Meanwhile, I was and it was really the Shaq.
00:32I mean honestly, no kidding aside, no bullshack, I think the 78 World Series with the Dodgers
00:38and the Yankees is as good as it gets and if it happens again, Cody, I'm all for it.
00:44Like either way, like a Subway Series, we've already seen that here in New York in 2000.
00:48I'm cool with that.
00:50I think that Yankee team was a lot better than the Mets in 2000.
00:54They were at the end of their dynasty and I think that this Mets team, in my opinion,
00:59Cody, they're better than the Yankees.
01:01They are and they kicked their ass this year in a Subway Series.
01:04They did and you can't lie about the Mets momentum, man.
01:06It is legit.
01:07I came on this show with you recently talking about how the Mets are primed for the future
01:10and the only narrative that I don't like right now surrounding the Mets is like, oh dude,
01:15this Cinderella team.
01:16Can you believe these Cinderella's showing up out of nowhere?
01:19Guys, the Mets have the highest payroll in baseball right now.
01:22More than the Dodgers, more than the Yankees, more than the Phillies, more than the Astros.
01:26They're not a Cinderella story, but they are a damn good baseball team.
01:29And yeah, if we get a Subway Series, I'm all for it.
01:32But you know, as a kid that grew up in LA, hearing the tales of the Dodgers versus the
01:36Yankees in my lifetime, we've never gotten a Dodger Yankee World Series.
01:39There were three in the decade right before I was alive.
01:42Give me a Dodger Yankee World Series.
01:44I was trained by Reggie Smith as a kid all the way up into my pro career.
01:49He used to tell me all these war stories between Dodgers and Yankees.
01:52I want to see it, and I hope we get it.
01:54But if we get a Yankee Met World Series, I'm all for it.
01:56Hell, the Cleveland Guardians to me are practically must-watch TV.
02:00Right now, we're in a situation where there will not be a single World Series matchup
02:04that I will not be tuned into.
02:05Yeah, I mean, listen, back then, you know, Garvey, Say, Dusty Baker, it went on and on
02:12with great players.
02:14And now these teams are like on a collision course.
02:20Either way, I was shocked when I saw the Mets win in Atlanta the way they did on the Lindor
02:28home run.
02:29Then we saw the Alonzo home run in Milwaukee in the ninth inning with one out.
02:33That was crazy.
02:34Then we see them get their ass beat in game one.
02:37They were literally sleepwalking, 9-0.
02:40And then they turn around and smack them.
02:42They're up six, and they win.
02:44Now they're home for three.
02:46They have been the best team in baseball, better than the Dodgers, better than the Phillies,
02:51better than the Yankees, better than the Astros, better than the Guardians, better than the
02:54Tigers, Royals.
02:55They have been the best team in baseball since June 1st.
02:59That's all there is to it.
03:01Period.
03:02Period.
03:03Stop.
03:04They just have been, and they're fun to watch.
03:05And this new version of Sean Mania we're seeing right now, where he's just taking pages out
03:08of Chris Sale's book, dominating that game against the Dodgers, not to mention dominating
03:12the Brewers right before that.
03:13The only thing that's interesting is, we talked about it on my show, we're like, can
03:18this Mets team win game two?
03:19Because if they didn't, to me, it was all she wrote.
03:22They were not coming back to LA.
03:24This was going to be a five-game series.
03:25And I thought wholeheartedly that the Mets were going to drop yesterday's game until
03:29six pitches into Francisco Lindor's first at-bat.
03:32That was an elite at-bat that ended up nine pitches with a home run.
03:36This team is resilient.
03:38They are good.
03:39And quite frankly, you put them in a chaos spot.
03:42They're amazing.
03:43And what I mean by that is, they played, what, 15 straight games?
03:46They had to play 16 games in that span just to make the dance, let alone continue to play
03:51throughout the dance.
03:52You give them a day off to go play the Dodgers.
03:54They show up asleep.
03:55The Dodgers beat their ass.
03:56You show up at literally 12 hours later for a quick turnaround in the next game.
04:00They beat the Dodgers ass.
04:01As long as you make it hard for the Mets, the Mets will win.
04:05Yeah, I think Quintana has been great.
04:07And I know Diaz gets people's heart racing.
04:11But when he struck out Schloerbaum with 101 gas, a BB, that was, and he was lit too.
04:17He was just like, don't touch me.
04:20He was like, I'm not jumping up and down.
04:22Don't touch me.
04:23He was just lit.
04:24I think they got really exciting, lit guys that want to win.
04:29And I've hated them my whole life, but I don't hate this team.
04:33I just pretend that they're not the Mets.
04:35I just pretend like they're a really good team that's fun to watch.
04:37Like you said, how fun they are to watch.
04:40Dude, they are a blast to watch.
04:42And we had, we had, you know, how he rose on the show last week.
04:45And I asked him, what's the difference between this Mets team to other Mets teams?
04:48Tell what's the difference in Brandon Nimmo right now compared to the guy that I played
04:52with Brandon Nimmo in 2017.
04:54And he described this Mets team as like, dude, you go in that locker room, you look around,
04:58there's no clicks.
04:59I've been in a lot of big league locker rooms.
05:01When I say there are clicks is an understatement.
05:03It's this section over here, this section of four guys, the Latin guys over there, the
05:08college guys over here.
05:10And it's just a direct, it's just completely separated group.
05:12They said in that locker room, it's everybody is together.
05:15You got, you got Alonzo playing dominoes with Lindor, who's playing dominoes with Diaz,
05:20who, who, who's playing a playing indoor basketball game over there with McNeil.
05:25It's just a tight knit group of dudes and watching guys like Nimmo.
05:29I mean, dude, if you didn't watch Nimmo after that division series where he's at second
05:33base by himself, kind of separating, kind of taking it all in.
05:35This is a guy that was drafted first round in 2011.
05:39This is guy was left off the playoff roster in 15, 16, struggling in AAA with me in 17
05:45all the way to this all-star in a multi-year deal.
05:47And now just a heartbeat away from the world series and the crowd chanting Nimmo over and
05:51over again.
05:52Dude, there's something legitimately special brewing in Queens and it ain't going anywhere
05:57anytime soon.
05:58They're like the 86 Mets.
05:59They can win it all.
06:00And I will say this, and I said this on the show before, I want to say it to you.
06:03I think Howie has been absolutely Pharrell and phenomenal calling the games.
06:09He has been the best play-by-play guy in baseball over the last month, the most exciting calls
06:15imaginable.
06:16I got one minute tonight, Garrett Cole against Bibby.
06:19What do you think happens in the boogie down?
06:21Dude, listen, I love me some Garrett Cole.
06:23He's my college teammate.
06:24I love G Cole, but here's the thing.
06:26There is one team that I do not love this matchup for, and it's the guardians.
06:29The guardians are pests, man.
06:30They get on base.
06:31They don't strike out, and Garrett Cole's a swing and miss guy.
06:34If they get on base, I wouldn't be shocked if this is a 2-1 affair tonight, because Tanner
06:38Bibby on the other end, hell of a pitcher himself.
06:41This is going to be, it's going to come down to one swing tonight, and we'll see which
06:44team makes that swing.
06:46How cool was Cole as a roommate?
06:48Was he a cool dude?
06:49Loved him.
06:50Loved him.
06:51He was 17 years old.
06:52Looked you right in the face.
06:53Say, I'm the best pitcher in the world, and he went on the mound and proved it every day.
06:57Ridiculous.
06:58You're way better than him on the air, I got to say.
07:02Cody, always a pleasure, dude.
07:03Enjoy the games.
07:04We'll talk again for sure, either at the end of the LCS's or in the World Series.
07:11Anytime, my man.
07:12Just give me a call, and I'll be here for you.
