00:00And another weekend has come and gone in Major League Baseball.
00:06So what does it mean in a long regular season with the postseason not all that far away
00:12nearing the middle of August?
00:15Soon our attention will flip more to football when an NFL regular season and a college football
00:20campaign begins and then we'll check back in at the end of September.
00:25What will things look like around MLB?
00:28Let's take a look at the World Series odds as of this moment.
00:32The Dodgers still remain the favorites at plus 320.
00:36They're a dollar and a half pretty much in front of the Phil's, plus 460 despite the
00:41fact that Philadelphia has been struggling since the All-Star break.
00:45The Yanks the best margin out of the American League at plus 550 and the O's plus 750.
00:51We'll get to the teams outside of that, but Donnie, really despite the results on an ebbs
00:57and flow weekly, daily basis around Major League Baseball, the top four have really
01:02remained the top four for the last two, three months in the bigs.
01:05Yeah, by far the top four teams in Major League Baseball, just the way it is.
01:09And also the only reason why the Dodgers probably don't have even more of a lead right now over
01:12the Philadelphia Phillies is because they are getting this little bit of a surge from
01:15a couple of those teams in the NL West where the Phillies look like they can just sleepwalk
01:19to a victory in the NL East, which means they'll get home field advantage and maybe if the
01:23Dodgers get overtaken, they won't have that here.
01:26But it's not going to change down the stretch unless we have just disastrous injury after
01:30disastrous injury.
01:31I think we understand who the four top teams are in Major League Baseball, two from the
01:35American League, two from the National League.
01:36And away we go to see how it plays out and we'll see which team can stay hot at the end
01:40of September heading into October baseball.
01:43Yeah, absolutely.
01:44So now let's get to the reshuffling behind the big four, the four teams that have had
01:49the four best prices, the Dodgers and the Phils out of the National League, the Yankees
01:53and the O's out of the AL Houston technically atop the American League West.
01:59At this moment, the Astros have won five consecutive games.
02:02Now the fifth shortest price to win a World Series at 13 to one, some reshuffling in the
02:08odds here, the twins, 14 to one Minnesota, $5 in front of their divisional mate.
02:15That would be the Cleveland Guardians Cleveland at 19 to one, despite the fact that Cleveland
02:20has a three and a half game lead in the American League Central over Minnesota.
02:25The biggest move, Donnie, the Braves 18 to one Atlanta was always kind of hovering after
02:31the injuries to Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr.
02:35And the Phillies supplanted them in the National League East with that fifth best price, third
02:41best number in the National League.
02:43The odds maker is having more belief in the Braves than either you or I, but Atlanta now
02:47has lost seven of its last eight games.
02:50The longest World Series price we have seen, it has moved back even from the graphic we
02:54showed you and those odds were updated this morning.
02:58Atlanta now at 18 to one, seventh best number to win a World Series championship.
03:03Sometimes when you just don't have it, Atlanta Braves just don't have it this year.
03:06You know, whether it was the injuries right out of the gate, the Strider and Acuna, I
03:09mean, you're not going to really rehab from that and come back.
03:12You got some great pitching performances, some unheralded guys stepping up to the plate
03:16like Chris Sale, who many thought might be done with nothing left in the tank.
03:21He might even win the Cy Young and it's still not helping at this point.
03:23Renaldo Lopez, who was so good for you for so long, now in the IEL with a little bit
03:27of forearm tightness.
03:28It's just sometimes it's not your year and it looks like the Atlanta Braves quality organization,
03:33it's just not their year.
03:34And if you could just take a microcosm of one game throughout the season and say, how
03:37is it going for the Braves, man?
03:39It was yesterday blowing that massive lead in the eighth inning here where you can gain
03:43another game on the Phillies.
03:44You just play some decent baseball before you head out to the San Francisco Giants.
03:47They lost that game yesterday.
03:49It's just what's happened for the Braves.
03:50Sometimes it's just not your time.
03:53Losing a weekend set against the worst team in the National League.
03:57That is the Colorado Rockies, but both the Rocks and the Marlins, the two bottom teams
04:01in the NL standings, picking up a win yesterday against playoff contenders, Arizona and San
04:08Diego round out the top 10 in terms of the World Series prices.
04:12The Diamondbacks, of course, the reigning National League pennant winners have won 15
04:16of their last 18, 21 to 1 the price on Arizona, 23 to 1 the number on San Diego.
04:23The pods have won 16 of their last 19.
04:26Donnie, as you forecast maybe the October outlook for either the D-backs or the Padres,
04:32who do you think is a better bet at this moment to actually contend for a World Series?
04:38To be honest, I mean, you're probably, it's such a tough question because again, they're
04:41tied.
04:42It's perfect to answer, but I just think overall talent wise, to be honest, it just
04:46might be the Padres at this point right now, because also you take a look at what they
04:50did at the deadline.
04:51How do you win late September games in October, a fortified bullpen?
04:55That's what they did.
04:56Slight edge right now for me, for the San Diego Padres over the Diamondbacks, but two
05:00hot baseball teams with a lot of talent, frankly, both will probably be making the playoffs.
05:06We'll take a look at the pennant odds a little bit later on and how things have been reshaped,
05:11but the Padres and the D-backs now both really up there with the Braves in terms of those
05:16National League pennant prices.
05:18The tier of two, the Dodgers and the Phils remain at the top.
