00:00But on the field this week, the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets are going to look
00:08a little bit different.
00:10And the reason why is because they finally consummated trade as Devontae Adams is reportedly
00:15headed to the Jets.
00:17And in exchange, it's a conditional draft pick, a third round pick goes to the Raiders
00:23for Devontae Adams.
00:25And it could become a second round pick if Adams ends up being first or second team AP
00:31All-Pro, or if he's on the roster for the AFC Championship game or Super Bowl.
00:38So that won't be the Jets, it would have to be another team, maybe that's the way that
00:41they get that pick too.
00:42The Bills and Jets last night played deep into the fourth quarter and naturally there
00:46were a lot of mistakes by both sides, missed kicks, and a lot of penalties in this game.
00:52But the Buffalo Bills came out on top, 23 to 20 in this one, as Josh Allen led his
00:57team to victory.
00:58Ray Davis, they're running back, filling in for James Cook, who was a late scratch.
01:01Also pivotal in this one is the Buffalo Bills have now won three straight road games.
01:06Pretty impressive.
01:07And Buffalo still looking at a potential AFC East crown.
01:11Remember, at the beginning of the season, it was thought that the Dolphins or even the
01:14Jets could potentially challenge for that.
01:17But as of right now, Buffalo's opened up a couple game lead in the division.
01:21And Sean McDermott, head coach of the Buffalo Bills, supremely impressed with going on the
01:26road, division opponent, and winning yet again.
01:28Good, good division win on the road.
01:32Three games, last three games in a row on the road, thought it was a gritty win.
01:37Josh, led by Josh.
01:40Offense got off to a good start, established a line of scrimmage early in the game.
01:43Ray Davis really stepped up in James's absence.
01:47Thought he ran tough, ran physical, protected the ball.
01:51Red zone offense, red zone defense, a big difference in the game.
01:56And then Taron with a great play at the end, and T-Rap had another great play, breaking
02:00up the pass in the end zone there.
02:03We've got to be, we've got a lot to clean up.
02:05We've got to be more disciplined, we can't beat ourselves.
02:10Situational football, we've got to go back and re-examine the situation at the end of
02:13the half.
02:14With the sideline play, we were defending the sideline with the potential for the field
02:18goal, and left a Hail Mary, checked to a Hail Mary, and so we've got to go back and re-examine
02:26that as well.
02:27So, a lot to clean up, and we've got a short week to do it.
02:33And the New York Jets have a lot to clean up too.
02:34They fall to 2-4, although they will have now Devontae Adams in Aaron Rodgers' backfield
02:41and frontfield as wide receiver, and so naturally he and Garrett Wilson are an excellent tandem.
02:46But that wouldn't stop the fact that Rodgers believed last night penalties were one of
02:51the big reasons for the disappointing outcome in the game, including penalties that were
02:56called against the other team and his own.
03:00It seemed a little ridiculous.
03:03Yeah, some of them seemed really bad, including the rough in the pass around me.
03:10That's not rough in the passer.
03:11Might as well play sarcastic ball if we're going to call those things.
03:16And I thought the one on Kinloch was not rough in the passer either, so we had chances.
03:21We had a walk-in touchdown on Braylon, and we had a phantom holding call, had a chance
03:29of a G twice, so we had our chances.
03:34Well, I think there's concern, but that's important.
03:37We need to get going.
03:41This was a golden opportunity.
03:43Some games you win in the NFL, and some games you give away.
03:45This was a giveaway.
03:46I mean, we were terrible in the red zone, missed two field goals, didn't convert on
03:53a two-minute drive.
03:55We had plenty of chances, had the momentum, had good drives, moved the ball up and down
03:59the field, so disappointing.
04:03The New York Jets, of course, with the big trade for Devontae Adams.
04:06We'll see if that helps them down the road.
04:08Now, the New York Mets did not need any help last night.
04:11They put a sixth spot up very early on on the Los Angeles Dodgers, went with opener
04:15Ryan Brazier.
04:16It did not work out well.
04:18Dodgers go on to, of course, fall in this one to the Mets, seven to three, lots of run
04:22scoring early.
04:24Dodgers definitely had their opportunities late in the game, but a couple of key moments
04:29inducing double plays, they end up falling in this one.
04:32Dave Roberts, the manager of the Dodgers, seems sort of undeterred, 1-1, going back
04:36to city field in New York, knowing that his key bullpen pieces are available for the next
04:41few games.
04:42I think as far as kind of where we're at, it never feels good losing, but to feel that
04:48you've got your leverage guys ready to go for the next three games, I feel really good
04:55about that.
04:56It was as least costly as it could be because of what Honeywell did, Banda, Henriquez did.
05:04And so that was certainly helpful.
05:06And you know, offensively, we got a chance to see their guys, their leverage guys and
05:10force some up downs.
05:12And I think that was beneficial to uneventful first game, of course, in the American League
05:18last night.
05:19If you were watching Monday Night Football, maybe you were locked into the Yankees and
05:21the Guardians.
05:22The Yankees went up 3-0 early and basically went on to win, relatively easy, 5-2 the final.
05:28Carlos Rodon was fantastic.
05:30He struck out nine batters in the game and talked about what was working for him afterward.
05:34Yeah, I mean, it was just, it seemed like it was mostly fastball slider, mixed in some
05:39change-ups, a couple of cutters, and like I said, I thought Austin had a good idea and
05:44good game plan behind the plate, and Bob was just throwing to where he wanted me to throw
05:50it.
05:51Yeah, I mean, the goal was just try to stay in control, stay in control of, you know,
05:56what I can do, obviously physically and emotionally, and I thought I executed that well tonight.
06:04Yankees did a good job winning game one.
06:05We'll see what happens later tonight.
06:07If they can win game two, it would put them in a commanding seven-game series lead, potentially.
06:12Gary Cole's on the mound tonight for the Yankees.
06:14They're minus 172 on the money line.
06:17Tanner Bibby will start.
06:18For the Cleveland Guardians, the total is seven.
06:20We'll have this game covered for you tonight on In Game Live.
06:22Meanwhile, the Mountain West's rebuild is nearly complete.
06:25They're adding a new school to the mix, and it will be Hawaii.
06:29They're headed to the Mountain West in 2026.
06:31That gives them eight full members.
06:33If the Mountain West adds NIU and Toledo, it would make the league's only conference
06:37schools in five different time zones, of course, Hawaii, far west as well.
06:42All right, some other news from the National Football League.
06:44Ahsan Reddick, who hasn't played a single down this season, has been given the ability
06:48to request a trade, according to NFL insider Diana Rossini.
06:51We'll see if that ends up happening.
06:53He's currently on the roster of the Jets without playing.
06:55Washington Commander's defensive tackle Jonathan Allen is sitting out the rest of the season.
07:00He has a left pectoral muscle injury that he suffered against the Baltimore Ravens.
07:05Big loss there.
07:06Jim Harbaugh's going to wear a heart monitor against the Broncos this coming week.
07:10He had some palpitations and had to leave the game briefly last week.
07:13And also Nick Ceriani, head coach of the Eagles, apologized for his interaction with the group
07:17of fans at the end of the game on Sunday, said that he was trying to bring energy and
07:21enthusiasm and is sorry for how his energy was directed at the fans in the game.
07:25So essentially, he got reprimanded and then said sorry.
07:28In terms of the Houston Texans, their defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr. is going to be out
07:32for a bit.
07:33Four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the NFL announced
07:36on Monday.
07:37Roger Goodell, by the way, in London dropped this pretty big bombshell.
07:40Previously, they said that there would not be a Super Bowl outside of the U.S., but now
07:45they're saying that there's a chance it could happen, maybe even in London.
07:48We will see.
07:49Good news for 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.
07:51He's back for the first time since being shot.
07:54In addition to college football, can you imagine if Cam Rising comes back to Utah for another
07:59season, potentially eligible for an eighth season in college football, as he's going
08:04to miss the rest of the season?
08:06Kyle Whittingham said on Monday that Isaac Wilson starts for the injured Rising, at least
08:10for the time being.
08:11Texas' number one wide receiver Isaiah Bond is day-to-day because of an ankle injury they
08:16take on Georgia coming up this Saturday.
08:18Oregon coach Dan Lanning said that, yeah, he put 12 men on the field late.
08:21We talked about this on the show yesterday.
08:23Three games in college football tonight, Troy at South Alabama, Kennesaw State at Middle
08:27Tennessee, and Louisiana Tech at New Mexico State.
08:30You may be wondering, why is there college football on Tuesdays?
08:33Well, once the regular season ends in Major League Baseball, college football takes over
08:37some Tuesdays and Wednesday nights.
08:39Welcome back to Newswire here on SportsCrit.
08:41Let's get a full rundown as to what happened at G2E in Las Vegas, a great tech conference,
08:47sports betting, all kinds of information out there.
08:49We learned a lot of updates, a lot of breaking news out of there as well.
08:52Sam McQuillan is with us.
08:53You can read, by the way, everything that happened over there over at legalsportsreport.com.
08:57Sam, thanks again for shedding some knowledge here in terms of what happened there.
09:02Thanks for coming on the show.
09:03Yeah, absolutely, Craig.
09:04Thanks for having me.
09:05All right.
09:06Well, let's get started, and let's start off with the possibility of sweepstakes coming
09:11to gaming, and it seems like it's a really hot, popular topic.
09:14I think if we did this a year ago, it would have been iGaming, betting on iGaming was
09:19sort of the hot next thing that was going to happen.
09:22Sweepstakes is the new click word out there.
09:24What does it mean?
09:25Yeah, it was the thing everyone was talking about as the global gaming industry converged
09:32in Las Vegas for G2E, the global gaming conference this year.
09:37Last year, everyone was talking about iGaming, as you're right, Craig.
09:38Also, everyone was talking about daily fantasy sports as well, and essentially what companies
09:44have done trying to blur the lines between different types of gaming and sports betting
09:49as it's become increasingly more popular and the size of the total addressable market has
09:54just boomed in the last couple of years.
09:56This year, it was all about sweepstakes gaming.
09:58Traditionally, online sports betting is only legal in states that pass laws to legalize
10:03online sports betting.
10:04But what we've seen popped up, especially over the past year, are a number of these
10:09startup companies which essentially are using what functions as a legal loophole to give
10:15a sports betting product or sports betting adjacent product in some of these large states
10:19like Texas and California that haven't legalized sports betting yet.
10:23You don't have companies like DraftKings and Fandle there offering sports betting.
10:27So now what you saw this year is executives from those companies are starting to turn
10:33their eye towards what's essentially a new form of competition in a largely unregulated
10:39market.
10:40This year, Flutter CEO Peter Jackson, who owns FanDuel, said that his company won't
10:46partake in this kind of game until it is regulated, sort of indirectly calling on regulators in
10:53states to turn their attention to these sweepstakes games.
10:56Derek Stevens, the CEO of Circus Sportsbook, went even farther, saying that it's pretty
11:00clear these companies have found a loophole, calling out companies by name such as Fliff
11:06and Novig, and then pointing out the rigorous steps it took just to get his sports betting
11:10app legalized in five states.
11:12So essentially, these companies allow you to deposit money and then you get a sort of
11:19virtual currency back, which is then exchanged for another form of currency, which you can
11:24then use to participate in this game.
11:26So it's a lot of hoops to jump through for a reason, because it's a largely unregulated
11:31market.
11:32So we'll see if, like last year, the regulators start to turn their attention towards these
11:36new sweepstakes games.
11:37I think it's pretty notable that you have these big companies starting to talk about
11:40it.
11:41Obviously, it's starting to eat in their business.
11:43Yeah, I think so.
11:45The other click words out there start with a P, parlays and props.
11:49We hear so much about this.
11:50People just don't want to make straight bets anymore.
11:53But props seem to be a hot topic for the CEO of DraftKings, Jason Robbins.
11:57Seems to be all in on this in NBA season, isn't he?
12:00Yeah, definitely, Craig.
12:02If you set the over under at 12 and a half about how many times you would hear parlays
12:07or props mentioned at this conference, you would have smashed the over.
12:10Everyone's always talking about this.
12:11This is the stuff that has got the sports betting business really booming over the past
12:16couple of years, as you've seen these companies make a profit.
12:19And player props have been a big part of it.
12:21These, of course, are bets you place on people to have a certain stat in a game, whether
12:26it's throwing for 300 yards, hitting two, three pointers.
12:30DraftKings CEO Jason Robbins said he wants his company to be the preeminent place, the
12:35preeminent app that you bet on player props this NBA season.
12:39They're really popular with football, but he was talking about wanting to roll that
12:44success over to other sports like the NBA, where it is very player focused.
12:48You have fantasy.
12:49You can see the players' faces.
12:50They're not behind helmets.
12:51And it's a really cool way for these companies to try to market selling a narrative while
12:57you watch the game.
12:58You can also bet on different things you think will happen.
13:01Flutter CEO Peter Jackson also chimed in saying that 50 percent of all FanDuel users who bet
13:07on Monday Night Football last week were betting on same game parlays.
13:12That's while parlay legs have gone up about 5 percent on average, essentially meaning
13:17that the bets have gotten harder to hit and the payouts have gotten bigger, but people
13:20seem to keep betting on them anyways.
13:23He also talked about a new feature that FanDuel is going to unveil in the coming weeks, which
13:27is going to allow you to set your own alternate lines on different player props instead of
13:33selecting someone that either have over 25 yards, 30 yards, you can now do 26, 27, 28
13:39and really customize these bets.
13:41Given that Robbins was talking about also wanting to push player props behind parlays
13:46as well, it'll be really interesting to see what DraftKings does to compete with their
13:50chief competitor, as these have been essentially the two best companies on product.
13:54And that's why they're the number one and number two in the space right now.
13:58Yeah, they are. And for time purposes, we're going to move ahead to our next story.
14:02But you can read more about just how popular these props are and even parlay bets over
14:08at LegalSportsReport.com.
14:10Basically, everybody betting on Monday Night these days is doing it via props or parlays.
14:15But I do want to get to this because this is the only update we've gotten in weeks, Sam.
14:19And I'm glad that you could bring it to the table here.
14:21You know, here in Florida, the hard rock legalized sports betting.
14:24And then we thought that it was going to be like an influx of states in 2024 to legalize
14:28it. Now we're coming up on Missouri, of course, in November.
14:31No discussion whatsoever about the state of California in a couple of years of getting
14:37closer to legalizing sports betting.
14:38But I know that was a hot topic also with G2E.
14:40Did it seem like any progress is being made there?
14:43Yeah, with not many states left to legalize, you're kind of still looking at the same ones
14:48you've been looking at, which is California, Texas and Florida, the really big markets.
14:53They did touch on California a little bit.
14:55Contestant Brewer of NBC asked Jason Robbins about California.
14:59He said, ultimately, that's going to be left up to the tribes.
15:02DraftKings and FanDuel had tried in the past to sort of circumvent the tribes with the
15:07failed ballot initiative a couple of years ago.
15:09But now they've kind of been owning up to their mistakes, saying we really have to work
15:13with tribes to understand what exactly this has to look like, has to be on kind of all
15:17their own terms. DraftKings is taking more of a wait and see approach, from what I gather,
15:21while FanDuel is working behind the scenes trying to mend those relationships.
15:25And then on Florida as well, it has the monopoly there with Hard Rock, but their CEO did
15:31come out, Jim Allen, this week saying that he is open to essentially opening up the door
15:36to other brands like DraftKings and FanDuel to get in the state.
15:39Now, you might wonder why, if you have a monopoly, you would want to allow more competition
15:44in, especially more competition that has done sports betting, quite frankly, a lot better
15:49than Hard Rock has across the country.
15:52This would essentially be some sort of partnership where they get a percentage of the
15:56revenue for allowing DraftKings and FanDuel into the state.
15:59He said he sees a lot of value in the brands themselves, the customers that they bring
16:05to essentially grow sports betting in the state where it's just a monopoly right now.
16:09But for the time being, these states are going to kind of be, you know, status quo.
16:14We'll have to wait for the next legislative sessions.
16:15But there's no doubt that this will be what the industry is watching in terms of next
16:20states to legalize as we turn to 2025.
16:24Hard Rock running out of new people, Sam.
16:25That's the translation there.
16:26Move them on over to FanDuel and DraftKings.
16:28Give us some money back.
16:30That's the easy translation.
16:31All right. So the Major League Baseball Players Association.
16:34I want to be clear here. This is not Major League Baseball.
16:36This is the Players Association, all upset over the last few months, seeing pictures of
16:41their players posted on all the sports betting websites.
16:44Fanatics is the first one to come to an agreement, but it's a non-exclusive agreement with
16:49the Players Association. So why do you think this happened?
16:52Was this a matter, Sam, and I'm guessing here of them getting sued and saying, all right,
16:55we'll give you some money here and then we'll do some sort of agreement.
16:58It kind of feels that way. I'm not saying that that's what happened here.
17:00But why would they accept a non-exclusive agreement to do this?
17:05Yeah, it's all about money, Craig.
17:06They sued a couple of companies a couple of weeks ago for having the likeness of players
17:12on the apps. When you bet a player prop, seeing Aaron Judge's face, Shohei Otani's face,
17:16you no longer see that in all the apps.
17:17Now, it's no coincidence a few weeks later, they then signed a non-exclusive deal, like
17:22you made sure to mention, with Fanatics so they can start doing that on their app.
17:26This is essentially just a move for them to get money from the other sports books, which
17:30I'm sure will be next in line to sign these kind of deals.
17:33All right, Sam. Great to see you again.
17:35Thanks for coming on the show.
17:37Absolutely. Thanks, Craig.
