00:00The Vontae Adams has been traded from the Las Vegas Raiders for a conditional third
00:08round pick to reunite with his former quarterback in Green Bay.
00:13But this time for the New York Jets, the Vontae Adams, the newest New York Jet as of about
00:20two hours ago.
00:21Yeah, you can make the case, Ben.
00:23The Jets lost the battle last night, but they won the war because I can't help but think,
00:28you know, if the Jets beat the Bills, and Mike Williams in particular plays really well
00:33and doesn't screw up every other play like he did last night, then maybe the Jets don't
00:37pull the trigger, at least not right now.
00:39But because it was so bad last night, and Rodgers afterwards with his postgame press
00:44conference, he would call out Mike Williams on that last interception.
00:48I think that was all the Jets could take, and they said, all right, let's go pull the
00:51trigger.
00:52So, Scott, there is so much to get to here.
00:55The timeline of how this plays out, a little bit murky as well, but we'll try to paint
01:00it here.
01:01And we'll use Monday Night Football and the huge trade on this Tuesday morning to try
01:07to lay out the path for a second consecutive week of what remains for a struggling franchise
01:13just trying to get to the playoffs.
01:15And if after last night in a two and four start, losing to Buffalo on Monday to end
01:20out week six, and the acquisition and addition of Devontae Adams can turn the tide for the
01:27New York Jets the remainder of this season.
01:30Scott, let's start with the end of week six, the closing game of the opening third of this
01:362024 NFL season.
01:38The New York Jets at home as a slight home underdog against Buffalo falter in a monumental
01:45game because of what has happened in the last week.
01:48The firing of Robert Sala, the demotion of Nathaniel Hackett as the OC, the elevation
01:54of Todd Downing as the new offensive play caller first game under interim head coach
01:58Jeff Ulbrich with all the attention and onus and pressure on the shoulders and right arm
02:05of a 40 year old quarterback in Aaron Rodgers.
02:08The game was critical for the New York Jets with an outright victory at home.
02:14They would be an even 500, but even at 500 would be in that first place spot in the division
02:21with the direct tiebreaker in front of Buffalo.
02:24Scott, that did not happen.
02:26The Jets come up short at home once again, 23 to 20.
02:30They fall in three straight games.
02:33Josh Allen and Buffalo do just enough.
02:37You can blame whatever you would like for why the Jets lost last night.
02:41The officiating, which was overwhelming, 22 total penalties, more than 200 total yards.
02:48I don't really think Scott, it was skewed to either team, costly calls on both.
02:54You can blame whatever you would like for the New York Jets, but at the end in a game
02:59they had to have, they did not.
03:01And as Aaron Rodgers said after the game, the Jets gave it away.
03:05It did feel like that.
03:07Yeah, it's a rare, rare opportunity, Ben, when a game is worth really three games.
03:13Because if Jets win, they're three and three, Buffalo falls to three and three.
03:18Jets though would technically be in first place because at this point they would hold
03:21the head-to-head tiebreaker.
03:22So for all intents and purposes, that puts them one game up.
03:26They lose as they did.
03:27Buffalo goes to four and two.
03:29Jets fall to two and four.
03:31And now Buffalo's up two in the standings.
03:33But again, now they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
03:35So in essence, they are up three, or up three games.
03:39So this was like a three-game swing and it was there for the Jets.
03:43But you know, and that's why I know a lot of people are today, you know, the optimistic
03:46Jets fan is going to say, well, we played a lot better.
03:48We ran the football.
03:50We looked a whole lot better on offense, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, right?
03:52The bottom line though is you lost.
03:54And that's what the Jets have been doing.
03:56You know, even last year when Zach Wilson, a quarterback, Ben, they weren't getting blown
03:59out of games.
04:00They were in games in the fourth quarter, almost all of them.
04:03But they found ways to lose.
04:04So to me, you know, it's, you know, the great song, you know, leaders change, but the results
04:09remain the same.
04:10Jets play a close game, but they found a way to lose.
