00:00At the start of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction,

00:06the important role of the media in delivering news and information

00:11on every calamity was recognized by Benji Durango in detail.

00:18The media is a vital partner on this resilience journey.

00:22The media was the first to participate in the opening of the 5-day conference

00:26of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction.

00:31DNR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga opened the program.

00:36She recognized that a large part of the media is engaged in disaster risk reduction.

00:40The work you do, whether in print, broadcast, or digital media,

00:45which shapes the global conversation around disaster risk reduction.

00:49Defense Secretary Gilbert Chudoro was also here to participate in the discussion.

00:53He invited the media to participate in the discussion.

00:56I encourage our media partners to pay special attention to the discussions in the conference

01:06and their coverage will ensure our resonance of the messages and the key points that we agree upon.

01:16Communication Secretary Cesar Chavez also sent a message

01:20reminding the media to maintain a responsible reporting

01:24that will be a guide for the government in responding to any calamity.

01:28He thanked the UNDRR for recognizing it in the country for upholding regional responsibility.

01:34The UNDRR member states are in 39 countries.

01:39But in Asia-Pacific, the Philippines called it a watchtower when it comes to disaster risk reduction.

01:51It is time to face gender equality in disaster-prone areas

01:56because of the sacrifices they face whenever there is a disaster.
