00:00This is the MG 4X Power, but this one here is a little bit different to any model that's come before it because it's been modified
00:06By MG Australia to figure out whether there's a market for a more focused take on the MG 4X Power
00:12It's got some big changes that make it fun
00:15And it's still ridiculously fast. 0-100 in 3.8 seconds for $60,000
00:21Nothing comes close. So is there a market? You have your say in the comments section below
00:26And if you keep watching, I'll tell you what I think about this car and why I think that it is
00:31Definitely something that they should consider offering to customers. It makes a big difference. Stay tuned if you haven't already please like and subscribe
00:38Let's get to it
00:44If you're thinking well
00:45It looks like it hunkers down a little bit more than the existing versions of the MG 4
00:50You're right because it's got 30 millimeter lowered H&R springs which have an effect on the drive experience
00:57It's also got this custom body kit
00:59Which sticks out a little bit and like you might love it
01:02But I'd be careful in car parks because you don't want to bump that
01:06It's also flowing along to the sides of the car, side sills and there's also a rear diffuser
01:11Which I'll show you in a sec, but I want to show you these wheels first
01:13They are 18 by 8 and a half Koenig wheels
01:17So they are flow formed lightweight wheels and no brake changes so that you still get the fake caliper covers
01:25But hey, I reckon that it looks really really good in my opinion
01:29But you tell me your thoughts in the comments section if I was
01:33Offering this I would probably want to maybe get rid of the branding on that side skirt
01:39It looks a little bit dorky
01:41Now at the back you do have a rear diffuser
01:43Which looks a lot more aggressive than the standard rear bar and it really does tie together nicely I reckon
01:52I'm not going to do a full detailed rundown of the pricing and specs of this car because well
01:57It's still an unknown as to whether it will be offered to the market
02:01So look there is no list price available for this modified version of the MG 4X power
02:07But you can watch my full detailed review by hitting the link in the description of the standard X power
02:12Which is very very well equipped it gets things like LED lights
02:1618 inch wheels
02:17Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel climate control and a heap of other really great features
02:23And I reckon that it feels pretty good for 60 grand
02:26I just love to know what you think a modified version like this could be marketed at I'd love to know your thoughts
02:32Let me know
02:35At this price point there is nothing that does what this car does
02:39It is a bargain and look when it comes to alternatives if you are okay with getting a sedan
02:44And you can spend a little bit more you could go for the high spec version of the BYD SEAL
02:49Now it's all-wheel drive with a 3.8 0 to 100 as well
02:53And it is a very different kind of experience has got a much more audacious interior
02:59And it's bigger so if that's what you need it could be the best alternative to this well
03:04Hey, if you're gonna spend 60 grand why not spend 120 on a Hyundai IONIQ 5 N
03:09It's probably the most fun you can have in an electric car
03:12And it's the full package and it comes straight from the Hyundai dealership with the warranty that you would expect
03:18And it's even warranted for track driving if you plan to do that
03:22But there are very limited options when it comes to getting something that's this fast and this practical and this thoughtful and this fun as well
03:29Well, it's more fun with these amendments that have been made
03:35There are no changes to the interior of this version of the MG 4X power
03:40The changes have just been made to the drive experience and also the exterior design, but hey there's one thing
03:46I just want to call out here this screen is still not my favorite thing
03:51But I do think that at least you've got some buttons down below which make it a little bit easier to interact with
03:56But there's some things that I turn off every single time. I drive this car because well they annoy me
04:01Things like the MG pilot system. I will put that every single time into lane keep assist off
04:08I'll disable that because it's just a little bit too insistent for my liking and
04:13Also, I've been turning off the traffic sign recognition system, though. It's not the most annoying
04:18Example of that technology that I've seen before and when it comes to the driving modes
04:22You do have a fair few to choose from including sport
04:25Which is the one that you might want to spend the most time in and custom which means you can adjust things to suit
04:31Your desires and that's pretty handy
04:33I reckon now if you just have it in normal or sport
04:36you will still have the option to have single pedal driving if you want to and
04:42Energy save mode if you want to as well, but for a lot of the time I've been driving this
04:47I haven't really been saving energy. I've been spending it and on the screen here
04:52There's also a sport mode indicator to tell you that you're in that mode now also
04:56I'll just go back to the home screen here, and I just want to check something else out
05:01If you are on a track you do have a track mode available this screen bloody
05:08I'm touching you hello
05:10There we go
05:13So yes the screen can be a little bit annoying there is lap mode and stage mode
05:17So if you are planning to do timing for your laps if you are going to a racetrack
05:23You can do that with this car, and that's kind of cool
05:26I'm not doing that because I'm not at a racetrack. I'm on a public road
05:31Come on, mate there. We go. Yeah, so yep as you can tell the screen still a little bit annoying
05:37And the controls can still be a little bit annoying and the fact that you've got piano black here on these
05:42Parts of the steering wheel can also be annoying because it shows up fingerprints
05:45I don't like fingerprints like I said if you want more detail on the interior of this car
05:49Make sure you go and check out my full detailed review of the XPower
05:53Yes, you heard me correctly when I said before that this car can do nought to 100 in 3.8 seconds
05:58Which is faster than an a45 AMG from Mercedes and that car is twice the cost of this
06:05It's got a dual motor layout. Yes one motor at the front axle one at the rear, so it's all-wheel drive with up to
06:12320 kilowatts of power and 600 Newton meters of torque
06:18Yes, with a single speed transmission and all-wheel drive as I said, so it is an absolute weapon when it comes to acceleration
06:25But let's talk about range and charging
06:32The MG4 XPower gets the slightly smaller 64 kilowatt hour
06:36NMC battery pack that the mid-spec models get the higher grade version
06:41Well the long-range version gets a bigger battery pack
06:44But the claimed driving range is 400 kilometers on the WLTP standard
06:49But just like a petrol car if you thrash it you're going to get less than that, right?
06:53So let's talk about charging your charge port is on the passenger side rear of this vehicle
06:58And yes, you do have AC charging at a maximum rate of 6.6 kilowatts
07:02Which is a bit slower than some other vehicles in this segment
07:06But that does mean that you should be able to charge from a wall box at home in about nine hours
07:11And there's also DC charging as you would expect you'll see the rate for the maximum charging rate on your screen now
07:17And also how long it should take to get from 10 to 80 percent
07:20Depending on where you are plugging in because that does obviously play a big part
07:31Fuuuuuuck! That is so fast you guys that is
07:36Ridiculously speedy this car is bananas
07:38There's no doubt about that, but thankfully with these changes that have been made
07:43It feels more manageable in the way that it gets the power down
07:46If you saw my previous review of the MG4 XPower
07:49you'll know that well there were things that maybe could be improved and
07:54Thankfully those things have been improved with the modifications that have been made here primarily
07:59I'm talking about the suspension tune. It's just got a better contact patch with the road below it is
08:06So fast this car. It is ridiculously fast and look when you put your foot down. It's kind of
08:15Mind-blowing in terms of getting the power down
08:18Far out it is so so quick and thankfully it feels like it's better connected to the surface below you now as well
08:28Right so the existing version of the XPower was pretty firm
08:32So let's go over my favorite bumpy street in my neighborhood to see whether this one is still livable or not now
08:39I've done a couple of days of driving this car already, and I think that it is livable for the most part
08:44But over really bumpy sections you can actually feel
08:48Quite a bit of what's happening below you and look it is a sporty car
08:52And I think that it's not to the point of discomfort
08:55It is just a little bit firmer with these H&R lowered springs 30 millimeters lower remember
09:01So it does push things down a little bit, and it is a bit bumpier
09:05but I don't think it's painful not in any way shape or form and
09:10Even over speed humps. Yep. It's pretty well balanced pretty well sorted
09:15never to the point of
09:18Discomfort this car. I'm really impressed with these different
09:22Springs which just make for a really. I don't know it's like reassuring feeling on the road surface below it feels
09:31Still very tactical and very thoughtful, but also just a little bit more comfortable than I was actually
09:38expecting it to be I
09:41Think that the steering is actually pretty good in this car. It is reasonably
09:46Direct and responsive and accurate and like it's not the last word
09:51It's not a Hyundai Ioniq 5n, but it doesn't cost 120 grand
09:55So I don't think that it really matters that it isn't doing that kind of job
10:00It's still doing a really good job and has nice direct and pretty accurate
10:05Feeling to the steering as well a bit of a numbness, but it's not necessarily
10:11Unusual for an electric steering system in a car like this to lack a bit of the
10:17Intrinsic nature that you might want from a performance car. It is certainly a weapon
10:23It is certainly an improved vehicle with these changes in my opinion
10:28It does feel just a bit more of a tactical thing and I reckon that that is an important thing for an enthusiast
10:35Customer like me. I'm an enthusiast
10:38I love cars, and I love cars that do things really well and for the most part this car does things really well
10:44I also love the fact that you've still got regen braking as part of this package
10:49And there's obviously the adjustability to put it into a single-pedal driving mode if you want to
10:56I will just say though that with the brakes
10:58Well, they're not quite as grabby as I would like for a car that's this fast
11:03I just wish there was a bit more bite when you really need it when you're going
11:08Faster than the speed signs suggest you maybe should be
11:13Yeah, you really do need that extra braking bite that you just lack
11:18when it's
11:19Serious, you know like really serious speed so look for the most part in day-to-day driving you won't even be bothered by it
11:26I would say it's just when you are pushing it harder than well
11:31Maybe you should you might notice that the brakes could just do with just a bit more grab to them
11:38One other thing that I think could add a little bit of extra
11:41Charisma or charm to this whole recipe is having some kind of soundtrack inside the car outside the car
11:47I don't know
11:48But if that is something that there is potential for as part of a potential
11:54MG Australia tuning program to make this a little bit more
11:58Personality rich then maybe that would be something that could help its appeal as well
12:04Because while it is still very very fast
12:08It's actually hard to judge how fast you're going at times because it's relatively silent
12:14But otherwise, I really think that this is a pretty great thing like I really
12:20Really like the way this car drives. I think it's got a great amount of
12:25Usability to the power it you know you can oh another thing
12:30I just want to say look you can just tootle around town
12:32You don't need to be going full-on all the time in this car. It's easy to manage the throttle response
12:38Just be careful though because if you put your foot down and you're in sport mode it just jets it is so fast
12:45right, so I've driven it
12:48extensively and
12:50Excessively maybe and now I'm going to tell you about energy consumption
12:57On your screen you'll see the official energy consumption figure for the X power versions of this car and look if you drive it
13:05Sedately you might be able to achieve that I did a sedate driving loop or a more normal driving loop
13:11I guess you'd say across a mix of different scenarios
13:14and you'll see what I saw on your screen now, and then I took it out and did some fun driving and
13:22Yes, that number is on your screen now obviously a fair bit higher than the claim
13:26But if you are going to be driving it like a bit of a hoon, then maybe you'll see similar
13:35I reckon there's huge potential for MG to offer a tuning program for its models in Australia
13:40If this is what it's going to be like because this is a big improvement over the standard model like I like the MG for X power
13:47I just like this a bit more because it feels more tied down more focused and more fun
13:52And I think that's the whole point of this program. So do you think it should be offered to customers?
13:57Do you reckon you'd be interested if they did offer something like this to customers?
14:01And if they did how much should these changes cost?
14:04I'd love to know your thoughts hit me up in the comments, and I'll pass it on to MG trust me
14:08They want to know as well. Thanks for watching. My name is Matt. This channel is called the right car, and I'll see you in the next one
14:31You
