00:10Welcome to Isanaz Tech, where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:14I've had the new 14-inch MacBook Pro for a few days now,
00:17and here are my thoughts coming from a MacBook Pro user.
00:21What's new, what's back, how powerful are these MacBook Pros,
00:24and how does battery compare?
00:26We'll talk about it in that video, but first of all,
00:28let's go through the unboxing experience.
00:32We have Apple branding on the sides.
00:35I got the base version, 16GB Unified Memory 512 SSD,
00:39and this is the 14-inch MacBook Pro because
00:42I can't do the 16-inch, it's just too big for me.
00:50Okay, are we ready?
00:55Wow!
00:57I am actually so excited.
00:59Ooh, that has a good weight on it.
01:02Okay, let's see what else is in the box first.
01:05We have paperwork.
01:09Ooh, that's a really cool Apple sticker.
01:13We have, and I'm excited about this, MagSafe power cord,
01:18and if you've been a MacBook user, you'd know how big a deal this is
01:22because I can't tell you how many times I've just
01:25frayed and completely ruined my MacBook charger.
01:28I can't tell you how many times friends have done the same,
01:32one too many times there's been an SOS of someone needing
01:36a random MacBook charger because they broke theirs.
01:38So yeah, I'm happy about this.
01:40And finally, we have...
01:45I only have the 67W power adapter because opting for the 96W
01:50would have taken so much longer to ship out.
01:53Right, time for the actual laptop.
01:56As early as now, I can tell you that this does feel heavier
01:59and thicker than my M1 MacBook Pro.
02:04Ooh.
02:06Okay, that looks good.
02:09You do have these rubber feet at the bottom,
02:11and these edges do feel different from previous MacBook Pros.
02:15On the right side, we have an HDMI port, USB-C, SD card reader.
02:19I am so happy.
02:21On the other side, you have two USB-C ports,
02:24you have an audio jack, and the MagSafe charging port.
02:28I'm so happy.
02:29I'm gonna go throw away all my dongles.
02:32Let's power it up and set it up.

03:05So a few obvious things about this new laptop.
03:07Like I said, it's heavier than my 13-inch MacBook Pro M1
03:10or the 13-inch Intel-powered MacBook Pro.
03:13I also feel like those previous laptop designs
03:15were going towards more sleeker form factors
03:19while obviously, this MacBook Pro is a little chunkier.
03:22It's very reminiscent of the old-school aluminum MacBook Pro,
03:25and I know because I was editing on the 2009 MacBook Pro
03:28up until like 2017, 2018,
03:31up until Joshua convinced me to upgrade.
03:34At 14 inches, this new MacBook Pro is bigger than the older MacBooks,
03:37but even if there's a size difference,
03:39it still feels very familiar to the 13-inch experience
03:42and overall use and carrying.
03:44I can also still fit it in a lot of my MacBook 13-inch
03:47accessory sleeves and bags,
03:49though, of course, this would really depend
03:51on your specific bag or sleeve.
03:52Now, speaking of carrying this thing around,
03:54I'll have you know that I carried this throughout
03:56a Trans-Pacific flight with two stopovers,
03:59and man, I survived without dongles.
04:01That SD card slot is back, and I am thrilled
04:04specifically being a creator who used to rely on that feature.
04:07We also get MagSafe charging back,
04:09which is something a lot of people are happy about,
04:12but personally, I'm not as excited about this
04:14as I was with the SD card reader return.
04:17To be completely honest, I was okay with USB-C charging.
04:20Specifically, I was happy about being able to leave my house
04:23without needing to worry that I didn't have
04:26a specific MacBook charger with me every single time,
04:30but we get the best of both worlds now
04:32with MagSafe charging and being able to charge
04:34via those USB-C ports,
04:36of which we have, like, three of now.
04:38And, well, you don't also need to plug in
04:40with this MacBook a lot because of battery performance,
04:42but we'll get to that later.
04:44Aside from the MagSafe, you get an audio jack,
04:47and for those who use external monitors,
04:49an HDMI port.
04:51The screen on this thing just looks so good,
04:53but then we have the polarizing notch,
04:55which, sure, just like saying it, just sounds so absurd.
04:58There's a notch on your laptop.
05:01That just sounds so ridiculous,
05:03but even with that notch,
05:05this laptop is still giving.
05:07More screen, I mean.
05:08Side by side with a 13-inch MacBook,
05:10you see the difference.
05:11And so, yes, technically, it doesn't really take away
05:13from the screen because it is adding more space,
05:16but I recognize that this can be distracting,
05:18and as some people have pointed out,
05:20stuff that goes under that notch does disappear.
05:23Though the thing is, with most of the apps I ever use,
05:26nothing really goes up that area,
05:28save for the menu bar,
05:30even when these are on full screen.
05:32Now, this notch also houses an improved webcam,
05:34which is good because this is the era
05:36of Zoom calls and meetings,
05:38and you are watching video samples
05:40shot by the webcam right now,
05:42though I would have loved center stage
05:44on this camera or even face unlock.
05:47We also now mourn the death of the Touch Bar,
05:49which was a cool concept,
05:50but personally, I was never really able
05:53to fully integrate it into my everyday workflow,
05:57save for the Touch Bar pet that was so cute,
05:59but not very useful.
06:09The keyboard feels very similar to previous Macs,
06:11though it does feel a little springier,
06:14and it now has an all-black back.
06:16I personally like the aluminum back look, though.
06:21Now, one thing that I really like
06:22about these new Macbooks is that
06:24even if you're going for the smaller 14-inch MacBook
06:27like me, you can fully spec it up
06:29like you would the 16-inch.
06:31The only main difference would be the screen size
06:33and the battery life,
06:34and as someone who likes smaller gadgets
06:36because I am smaller and it's just easier for me
06:40and everyday carrying and wielding,
06:43I love that you get the choice to max it out.
06:45I mean, literally, you can opt for the M1 Max
06:48on this 14-inch body.
06:50Now, I didn't do that, but again,
06:51it's good that I can.
06:52And besides, you can be tiny like me
06:54and need an all-powerful laptop for your workflow.
06:58And like I said, I did opt for the 14-inch base version,
07:01and this was because I felt like this laptop
07:04was enough for my editing needs.
07:06Just like how I was editing on my 2019
07:09Intel Core i5 MacBook Pro with 16GB,
07:12and I was thinking that that was enough for me
07:15despite the not-so-good battery life
07:17and how I upgraded to the MacBook Pro M1 base version,
07:21and thought that was all I needed.
07:23Now, speaking of that base M1 that I used
07:26before this laptop,
07:27that thing blew my mind in terms of battery performance.
07:30And considering that I had the base model,
07:33I was editing 4K video on that thing.
07:36The only big issue that popped up with that old MacBook
07:38was that I'd usually need more storage space,
07:41and sometimes I would see the laptop stutter
07:43when I have like a bajillion apps and programs open
07:47when I multitask like I tend to do.
07:49But still, it was pretty impressive
07:51for what it was doing and for the price.
07:53And honestly, like I said earlier,
07:55it was enough for my personal needs.
07:57Now, this new 14-inch MacBook though,
08:00in the last four days, this thing has adequately
08:03met my needs.
08:04I've edited like two 4K videos on this easy.
08:07Performance has been smooth and it's left unbothered
08:10by my multitasking and many open tabs and windows.
08:13Battery has also been doing well,
08:15lasting me a whole day's worth of use.
08:17On days I'm not editing heavily like today,
08:20it's lasted me more than a day.
08:21In terms of charging, with a 67-watt brick,
08:24it lasts me an hour and a half and a little over that.
08:27So it's only been a few days, but I've been pretty happy
08:29with my new 14-inch MacBook Pro.
08:31Sure, it's a little weightier,
08:33but I mean that literally and figuratively.
08:36I think that these new M1s, the M1 Pro,
08:38and the M1 Mac allow us to see this new direction
08:41Apple is taking their MacBook Pros a little clearer.
08:44And for the first time in a while,
08:45the Word Pro in the MacBook lineup has a little more weight.
