00:21Today's video features a first for this channel.
00:24We're looking at what's supposedly a modular phone,
00:27meaning you can switch out parts and accessories of the device to your liking.
00:32I know, exciting, right?
00:34The phone we're talking about was just announced
00:36and it was released by Nothing under their sub-brand CMF.
00:39And one thing we know about Nothing,
00:40they're all about the lifestyle and not just the tech.
00:43So now, I'm really curious to check out this phone.

02:16So, we got a lot of things.
02:18Aside from the CMF Phone 1, they also announced the CMF Buds Pro 2.
02:22The unit we got comes in this nice deep blue,
02:25but this also comes in black and that very, very hot orange.
02:28First impressions, this comes in a handy, nice little size.
02:32It looks good.
02:33It feels nice to the touch.
02:35But really, it's this knob here that's super interesting to me.
02:39It's basically a smart dial that'll allow you to adjust your volume
02:42or your noise cancellation.
02:43Yes, this has noise cancellation.
02:45And the thing is, this looks like that little button on the phone.
02:49So, honestly, super cool.
02:50We also got the new CMF Watch Pro 2.
02:53And this watch has interchangeable bezels.
02:58But yeah, this video will focus on the phone.
03:00And I do have, like, quick unboxing shorts of those two devices.

03:07Now, back to the CMF Phone 1.

03:11Initially, I was sad that I got the black phone.
03:14But for the CMF Phone 1, you can quite literally change the color.
03:19And I'm not even talking about cases you add on.
03:22You can change the back panel of the phone.
03:25Okay, okay.
03:25So, first of all, there are many different accessories that you have for this phone.
03:29There's a card case, a lanyard, a stand, and this is what they call cases.
03:34But they're actually, again, the back panel.

03:52The CMF Phone 1 has this fun little knob.
03:55And you just screw it out.
03:56You take off the SIM tray, take off the screws.
03:59And it comes with this cute little SIM ejector screw type thing, which I love.
04:04And then, you just switch out the back panel.
04:06Easy.
04:06Okay, let me explain.
04:07At least for people like me with long nails,
04:10it wasn't the easiest to pry the back panel off the phone.
04:13I didn't want to ruin my nails.
04:15But yeah, I couldn't get the back panel off at first.
04:17And I tried, and I tried, but I failed.
04:20So, I gave up.
04:21Until the next morning, where we tried again.
04:23And this time around, we sort of used like this part of the screw to jam it in.
04:27So, we could take the back panel off.
04:29I would not recommend because you might actually scratch the plastic frame.
04:35But it got the job done for me.
04:37And now, look at this pretty thing.
04:38But yeah, my point in saying this is you sort of need to use a little force.
04:43It's not like switching out smartphone cases.
04:46Not necessarily saying that's better or this is better, but just a comment.
04:50Anyway, now I don't have a black phone and I love it.
04:53And this is another accessory that I added onto the phone.
04:57So, all these other accessories, you either screw on to that button thing
05:02or you use the different screws on the back of the phone to switch it out.
05:05And I did learn as I was trying out all these modular accessories
05:10that you can mix and match the different colors of the screws and the SIM tray
05:15and like this little stand thing and the different cases.
05:18I love it.
05:19I personally think that this is a brilliant idea.
05:21Like, how are modular accessories only now popping up in the mainstream?
05:29So, the CMF Phone 1 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7305G chip.
05:36And it reps 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging.
05:40It has game mode, liquid cooling, and it's running on Nothing OS 2.6.
05:45Of course, that means you're getting that signature nothing phone interface and widgets.
05:51And I mean, the nothing look has always looked cool on the homepage.
05:54And that's a 6.67-inch AMOLED display.
05:58Now, on the back, you get those two cameras.
06:00And then, of course, you've seen me play around with those four screws on the back.
06:05That bottom right gives you that bigger screw-on button where you stick on other accessories.
06:11On the right, you get an unlock button.
06:13The bottom features speaker grills, a USB-C charging port, and your SIM tray.
06:19And this thing can take two SIMs and or a microSD card.
06:23On the other side, you get the volume rocker.
06:26And that's a smooth clean top.
06:27As a fan of smaller phones, this is a little bigger for me.
06:31But it feels nice in hand.
06:33It is plastic.
06:34But there are other backs that have different textures.
06:37Like, for example, the orange case has a vegan leather feel to it.
06:41Again, the beauty of this phone being customizable.
06:43You can pick and choose.
06:44But yeah, this does not feel cheap.
06:48And it looks fun and fresh to me.
06:52That is a 50-megapixel main shooter on the back of the phone.
06:56And this has EIS.
06:58That second one is a portrait shooter.
07:00But as of the making of this video, I don't have any other detail on the second camera.
07:05I guess we're gonna have to test it out to find out.
07:08Up front, that is a 16-megapixel selfie camera.
07:12Now, CMF is also saying that you have AI to help with your photos.
07:16They have an AI-enabled vivid mode to get photos that pop.
07:19And a specific feature that I like is that there's a dedicated camera widget on here.
07:24So with the press of a button on your home screen,
07:26you can basically turn on the camera with your presets.
07:29So this phone on photo mode can do 1x.
07:32Ooh, 52mm.
07:35Up until 10x.
07:36Then back to 1x.

07:38And then settings up top.
07:40What's this?
07:40Natural mode or...
07:42Ah, this is the AI-powered vivid mode.
07:45And then of course, you have your portrait mode.
07:48Same, same.
07:49Adjust the bokeh.
07:50You have a retouching mode.
07:52Not a beauty mode.
07:53A retouching mode.
07:54I like that word better.
07:55You can do 1x, 2x.
07:58Up until 2x on portrait mode.
07:59And you have other options on features like time-lapse, pano, and expert mode.
08:05Nice.
08:06And then of course on video, you can shoot 4k whether your camera's 4k60 or 1080p30 or 60.
08:13You can do 1x, 2x.
08:15Up until 10x on 4k.
08:17And you also have a slow-mo mode with 1x or 2x.
08:23Now on video, you can only do 1080p30fps.
08:30Under photos, you have a slight wide.
08:33A retouching mode.
08:35You have your flash.
08:36And then you have your portrait mode.
08:39And same, same.
08:40You can adjust the bokeh and retouch.
08:43And yeah.
08:43Let's try to show you some sample shots.

09:19I've gotta be honest.
09:20And I'm saying this as someone who checks out phones for a living.
09:24Phones are getting boring.
09:26We're seeing more and more of similar things in the market.
09:29And there are tech trends that a lot of brands just hop onto.
09:33But this, this is the first time I've seen this.
09:35At least in a while.
09:36This is not the first modular phone.
09:39We've seen attempts from LG, Moto, or the Essential phone.
09:42But this, I'm really digging it.
09:44I think the CMF Phone 1, in terms of what I've seen so far,
09:48is great implementation of what modular devices are.
09:52And sure, you're not getting hardcore attachments
09:54like an attached 360 camera on this phone.
09:57But these are accessories that I'll actually use.
10:00And true to the ethos of bringing design to more people
10:04via a more affordable price point,
10:06I think this works.
10:07Of course, at this point,
10:09I'm still just talking about the looks and the physicalities of this phone
10:12and not the actual phone performance.
10:15This is, after all, the first look.
