00:00So we're going to do something that's very unconventional.

00:07in this moment. Our pastor experienced something last week and he called me up.
00:12He said, George, we got to try this and if you know our leader, he's a visionary,
00:15he's very strategic and he wants to be intentional in our worship.
00:19Instead of watching, he wants us to worship. And so we're going to throw some
00:23lyrics on the screen and I need everyone in
00:26the house and at home to lift up this song. It's called
00:29Living Hope. Our hope is built on nothing less.
00:34So we want to lift this song up. I want to get, I want you to get in your spirit
00:38and just reflect on the words and we're just going to worship in a
00:42unique way.

06:55My, uh, my door to victory goes to this great Christian school, mostly wonderful, beautiful
07:07Anglo people, and I was there for father-daughter breakfast about a week ago, and after we got
07:14through with breakfast, shameless plug, that's why you should bring your kids to the Ari
07:18Vernon Christian Academy, because there's just a different spirit when it's a Christian
07:22school, and after we got through with breakfast, we all went to the chapel, and they started
07:28singing, and there was no drum, there was just a guitar, and a keyboard, and one person
07:34singing, and I noticed that all of us fathers were singing, because there was no praise
07:40team to watch, we had to worship, and I called George from the place and sent him a video
07:46and said, when I come to church, let's practice a couple of weeks, but I want to try this,
07:50and even though we have mostly a chocolate context, let's worship a little different
07:55today, and don't worry, we're about to get real black in a few minutes, amen, Jesus can
08:01work it out, it's coming in one minute, but I thought, I want you to get used to not just
08:06watching, but worshiping, so there'll be moments, there'll be moments where we'll bring the
08:16keyboard to the middle, there'll be no praise team, and we'll do one song where you just
08:21worship.

19:27There are people who do nothing but plot and plan against your vision.

19:37And some of you are so excited that you start talking too soon, and you was talking to people
19:41that you thought loves you, but you don't know they double-backed against you and called
19:45the companies you was trying to connect with and told them lies about you so you couldn't
19:48get the contract.
19:49Y'all not hearing me.
19:50There are people who live to mess you up because they have no vision of their own.
19:56Their only vision is to stop yours.
19:59There's a real devil.
20:00So sometimes, because they're kin to you, you think you can confide in them, but there's
20:04some stuff you're doing God says, keep it on the low.
20:07Just keep it on the low.
20:08Don't tell everybody, because everybody not happy for you.
20:12When I announced the R. A. Vernon Christian Academy, the state had said yes.
20:16The health department had said yes.
20:18The city had said yes.
20:20And the teachers had been hired, because I realized everybody don't love me, and there
20:23are people that are trying to make calls, trying to make calls just to shut down what
20:27we're doing before it ever gets started, but by the time they found out, grand opening.
20:31Y'all miss that phrase?
20:33Oh, y'all better hear me, everybody.
20:36It was too late to hate on them.
20:39So sometimes, it's not the time to talk, it's the time to be strategic.

20:51yet, I had not yet said anything to anyone about my plans.

21:00Watch this, verse 18 says, I told them how God was supporting me, how the king was backing
21:04me up.

21:08They rolled up their sleeves and got ready for the good work.
21:11Now, the Bible says, in chapter 4, verse 1, everybody, when Samballot, say Samballot,
21:17say it out loud, when Samballot heard about the rebuilding of the wall, he exploded in
21:21anger.
21:22You have to study for yourself a little bit, Samballot is the enemy in the text.
21:25Every story got a villain.
21:27Every good story kind of has a villain in some action movie.
21:30Those of you who don't read the Bible a whole lot, read about Samballot, Samballot is the
21:33antagonist in the narrative.
21:36Samballot, Satan, Samballot represents the person who does not want to see you get stuff
21:42done.
21:43He represents the evil interloper whose only goal is to stop you from getting to your next
21:48destiny.
21:49I want you to understand the Bible says, the Bible says Samballot, when he heard we was
21:53going to rebuild the walls, I'm sorry, how come you like me better when I'm broken?
21:57Yeah, how come some people like you better when you're broken?
22:01How come they didn't mind being your friend when you were needy?
22:05And as soon as you start deciding to build stuff, all type of stuff kicks in in terms
22:09of jealousy and wanting to stop you.
22:11The Bible says, Samballot got mad.
22:14Here's the third observation, write it down, expect opposition.

22:19If you have a big dream, look for big haters.
22:24If you have a big dream, look for big opposition, I need you to grow up.
22:29Sometimes people get in my line on Sunday, I always pray with you and kiss you and hug
22:33you, but I'm real with you.
22:35I said, did you expect to get out of life with no blood on you?
22:38No, when you're doing something big, there's a real devil.
22:43We talked about demonology, a branch of systematic theology on a couple of weeks ago, a couple
22:48of weeks ago, and I want you to realize, expect opposition.
22:52When you and your spouse are kicking it and kissing and making love and doing decent,
22:57look for one of the kids to come with something.
23:01You're like, why don't y'all leave?
23:04Look for somebody in her family to say something, look for somebody in your family to do something.
23:11Why?
23:12Because something big is about to happen.
23:14When something big is about to happen, enemies and demons get nervous, they start plotting
23:19against you, expect opposition.
23:22Don't be surprised by fiery darts and trials.
23:26This is the enemy's job to try to stop what God is doing in your life.
23:30The Bible says, but when I found out what they were up to, uh-oh, verses 4 and 5 says,
23:36and Nehemiah prayed.
23:37Ooh, y'all just missed that.
23:39And Nehemiah prayed.
23:40Write this down in your notes, always pray.
23:44Always pray.
23:45Y'all didn't say nothing.
23:46Always pray.
23:47Some of y'all think prayer is the game, but prayer is what's keeping me right now.

23:53The Bible says, as opposed to gossiping or complaining or therapy only, no, he prayed.
23:59As opposed to going on Facebook and Instagram and telling the whole world what he needed,
24:03he prayed first.

24:19Turn their taunts back on their own heads.

24:31Don't you wish you could pray that prayer?

24:59not have an ignorant — that just means lacking knowledge — an ignorant congregation.
25:04It is so critical that you understand systematic theology, specifically Christology, demonology
25:10a few weeks ago, today Christology.
25:13Everything you read in the Bible, look at me, you read it through the lens of the New
25:17Covenant.
25:19When you're reading an Old Testament passage or the Old Testament stories or David or Goliath
25:25or Samuel or Samson, always read it, listen to me, through the lens of the New Covenant.
25:31In other words, you may be reading an Old Covenant passage, but you've got to read it
25:35through the lens of the New Covenant, because since Christ has come, everything has shifted.
25:41And so when you're preaching about one of the old homiletic heroes or historic heroes
25:46in the Bible, never praise the men in the Bible, worship the God of the Bible.
25:52And so Nehemiah is a good dude, but he's up under the Old Covenant.
25:57In the Old Covenant, it was an eye for an eye.
26:02But now let me read something to you.
26:03Because the Bible says in Matthew 5 — oh, this is good teaching if you appreciate it
26:07— verse 43, you have heard it was said, love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
26:14But I tell you this, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
26:19So Jesus said, previous to me, you've been taught if they hate you, hate them back.
26:26They don't want you, you don't want them.
26:30Can I tell you why you are not all of that?
26:31Can I tell you why I've got to pray every day?
26:33Why I am not the Christian I need to be?
26:36Because He's still working on me.
26:38Won't Jesus humble you?
26:39You know, when brothers dunk on somebody in the NBA, they do like this, like, you ain't
26:43big enough.
26:44God shows me sometimes, you're not big enough.
26:45I want y'all to catch this.
26:46God is showing me I need to pray.
26:49I've got to read more, because I can handle the personal piety stuff.
26:55Oh, come here, personal piety.
26:58Drugs, drinking, sex, drugs, rock and roll, don't cheat on your wife, don't sleep around
27:04as a single, don't get drunk, don't get high, don't be places where they're acting crazy.
27:08That's personal piety.
27:10I can handle that through the help of the Holy Spirit.
27:13What's really struggle, what I really struggle with is this relational stuff.
27:18Because I can handle not drinking, not getting high, loving one woman.
27:21I'm just mature enough in God, I think I can pull that off.
27:25But loving people who hate me?
27:28Being nice to people that's trying to kill you?
27:30I wish I had some real people in here that know if they can't stand you, you can't stand
27:34them.
27:35OK, y'all not talking to me.
27:36And He's still working on you, because that can be a struggle to be nice to somebody and
27:41you know that every intention is to hurt you.
27:43Do you know how much Jesus it takes?
27:45Do you know how much power and Holy Spirit it takes to be kind to somebody whose whole
27:49agenda is to wipe you off the face of the earth?
27:52Do you know how much Jesus it takes to speak to somebody every day who you know be talking
27:56about you in the break room and you not phony, you not phony, and you don't want to be phony?
28:01But you got to praise the Lord, bless His name, and how are you, and how's your family?
28:11And everything in you is like, that ain't me.
28:15Yeah, I'm a cool person, but you don't want me, I don't want you.
28:18But Jesus said, but I say unto you, bless those that curse you, do good to those that

31:07They babies been grown, but they report to a nursery every Sunday when their kids are
31:11grown and gone because the people got a mind to work.
31:14You can't stop the Word Church because we got a mind to work.
31:17And can I tell you, it's still too many young bros getting killed in this city and we can't
31:21sit back apathetically.
31:22They don't even know who killed Cordell.
31:25But I'm going to be calling Cordell and the mayor tomorrow and calling the chief of police
31:28saying we need justice for this beautiful black brother.

43:39more than I look at the crowd
43:41all of my seminary training taught me
43:43look at every person for two seconds apiece
43:45so they can feel like they're in the room
43:47don't be scared of the crowd, look right at every person
43:49look at every section so everybody can feel like they're in the room with you
43:51and then they tell me, no pastor, they're more watching than sitting
43:53so I have to adjust my old style
43:55and now look at a camera
43:57what 25 years taught me
43:59and my training to look at every person
44:01I had to make a mid-course adjustment
44:03I looked around and said, wait a minute, we first started, I was 30
44:05I was 30, therefore the whole church
44:07was 25, 30, 18
44:09and 25 years later now I'm 53
44:11which means most people, a lot of people
44:13around my age, so either I gotta be intentional
44:15to get younger
44:17or we'll be dead in 20 years
44:19so I gotta make some mid-course adjustments
44:21whereas most people have old men sitting on the front
44:23I'm gonna put young people on the front
44:25and whoever don't like it, God bless you

44:31if we wanna have a future
44:33how come most churches you went to had all older people
44:35and older people are a blessing
44:37and any old person that leaves this church
44:39I'm gonna be mad at you cause I need your wisdom
44:41at the same time, we gotta have a future

44:45but most churches won't make no adjustments
44:47so there's nobody in there
44:49I gotta look at this pretty girl

44:57you gotta be willing to shift and move
