00:00Full-time here at Goodison Park and Everton in a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United.
00:06A real steely and resolute performance from Everton. We haven't seen that so far this season.
00:10Just their first clean sheet in the Premier League.
00:13And on the balance I think a draw was deserved. Newcastle probably had the better of the play.
00:18But Everton grounded out and had a couple of opportunities. Could have even had a penalty themselves.
00:23I mean a big talking point after the game will be Anthony Gordon's penalty miss.
00:27Of course he was coming back here to Goodison Park. He left in January 2023 under somewhat controversial circumstances.
00:35He was the boo boy and he didn't deliver when he had a chance to silence the crowd.
00:44Because in the first half Newcastle had a gilt-edged chance to break the deadlock from the penalty spot.
00:50James Tarkowski was a judge to have hauled down Sandro Tonali.
00:54BAR recommended Craig Pawson review the incident and he pointed to the penalty spot.
01:00But Jordan Pickford won the Battle of the Man Games and made a sprawling save to his left to keep out Anthony Gordon.
01:09Much to the fans' delight.
01:11The first half was a fantastic spectacle.
01:14Everton actually had a goal disallowed before Gordon's penalty for offside.
01:19I'd like to call it. He did strike offside when he headed home James Garner's cross.
01:25And in the second half Newcastle had a couple of chances.
01:29One was cleared off the line and Everton felt they should have had a penalty themselves.
01:33When Dominic Calvert-Lewis played through on goal, saw his chance saved by Nick Pope and then going for the rebounds.
01:40He went down under pressure from Dan Byrne, the Newcastle defender.
01:44But it was a judge that Dominic Calvert-Lewis kicked Dan Byrne rather than the other way round.
01:49Sean Dyche was a little bit baffled about after the final whistle.
01:54We'd just spoken to him in his post-match press conference.
01:57But I think he's happy with the point, especially given that Everton lost two big players in the build-up this week.
02:04Jarrett Bramfwaite, after coming back in that 2-1 win against Crystal Palace, has suffered a minor thigh injury.
02:10So that rules him out.
02:12Vitaly Mikhalenko, the regular left-back, was also unavailable for calf injury.
02:16So a makeshift defence for Everton.
02:18James Garner featuring at right-back, actually the younger left-back.
02:22James Garner was played really, really well by Jordan Pickford.
02:25He was man of the match.
02:27It was a great game. Stuck it out in a position that he hasn't played in an awful lot.
02:32A lot of credit has to go to Michael Keane as well.
02:34He's had a lot of criticism this season from sections of supporters.
02:38But I thought he was fantastic today.
02:40I thought he made a couple of outstanding sliding tackles.
02:44A real big, important header when a cross came into the box in the closing stages.
02:48So he deserves credit and so does Everton.
02:51Hopefully now, three games unbeaten, five points in three games.
02:55He can build a little bit of momentum.
02:59The international break is coming at the right time, Gordon,
03:01so they can get a few bodies back before they make the trip to Ipswich
03:07when the international break is over.
03:09Overall, a good result for Everton here against a Newcastle side
03:12who have a lot of threat, albeit some of them were missing,
03:15but are a very good outfit.
03:16It's Everton 0, Newcastle 0.
