00:18Back with another episode of the Cedric Maxwell Podcast, I'm Joseph Pavone, alongside of course
00:22Cedric Maxwell, and Max, we're talking about life's most thought-provoking questions.
00:27That's what I'm gonna call this episode.
00:29That's what we got here, man.
00:31I got some mind-blowing questions for you, Max.
00:33I know I saw the video on Instagram.
00:36For people who are on Instagram, you guys know, when you go through those reels, sometimes
00:40every once in a while, outside of comedy, outside of sports, at least the way my thing
00:45is set up, my algorithm, you get some thought-provoking stuff.
00:49You know what?
00:50This was one of those videos where I'm like, I might never see this again.
00:53I took a screen grab, recorded it, and I was like, we're gonna make this one an episode.
00:56I sent it over to Max, and I'm gonna ask you some of these questions.
00:59Did you get a chance to really think about this?
01:00I feel like this is something you kind of...
01:02You know what?
01:03When you sent me the video, and I played it, and I was looking at it, and I was like, wow.
01:10I said there were deep questions, so no, I wrote it for you just to shoot the questions
01:15to me off the dome, so I can go ahead and answer them.
01:18That's the way I felt.
01:20Number one is?
01:21Number one question.
01:23This one's a good one.
01:24When I started it off, I was like, you immediately got my attention.
01:27First question is, if you were in a room with every person you ever met, who would you...
01:32Excuse me.
01:33If you were in a room with every person you ever met, who would you run to, and why?
01:45I mean, I'm trying to figure...
01:47To run to would be someone who I would want to...
01:50We could have a conversation, or go, you know.
01:52You know what?
01:53I think that I would go to that I met would probably be, and God bless his soul, would
01:59be Bernie Mac, because I don't think people knew how deep he was.
02:06I told you the story.
02:07I met Bernie Mac.
02:09I was at Muggsy Bowles, who was a basketball player for the Hornets.
02:13He had a celebrity golf tournament.
02:15Dale Curry was there, and myself.
02:18So we walk in, and he had just performed for Muggsy's celebrity golf tournament, and went
02:25to the back, and Muggsy walks up, says, you know, Muggsy, shakes his hand, cool, and he
02:32said, nice meeting you.
02:33Then Dale Curry comes up, who now his dad's, you know, Steph Curry's his son, but he said
02:38Steph wasn't there, so he said, hey, nice to meet you.
02:41I walk up, and I go ready to shake his hand, and he said, you, you're motherfucking Korn
02:46Brand.
02:48So who the rest of these motherfuckers?
02:50And that was just like, it was like the biggest up from somebody who was a celebrity, and
02:58then ended up talking to him later on, and it was just really cool.
03:03So if there was a person, I don't know if I would say I would run to him, but the person
03:07I think I met that I'd want to talk to would be him.
03:13Now if there's a person on the other side that I haven't met that I want to talk to
03:17would be probably Barack Obama, because he is like my all-time, all-time now, because
03:23of what he did for people of color, how he handled himself during eight years of his
03:31administration, you know, no scandals, you know, the country was all good.
03:38People said the country was going to go to hell in the handbasket once he became the
03:42president, and it couldn't have been anything further from the truth, and I was never as
03:46proud of a person as I was of him.
03:48But that would be the question, probably Bernie Mac would be that person.
03:51Wow.
03:52That's cool, man.
03:53I forgot about that story.
03:54I remember you telling me eight years ago.
03:55Or should I say the opposite way, or should I say the time that, you know, I was, I met
04:01O.J., O.J. Simpson, if I could just go back and talk to him like, dude, what happened?
04:06Give me the skinny, tell me what happened.
04:11And I met him actually in the Bahamas, and he was with a young white woman.
04:17And I wanted, oh my God, it just, it was, it was, it was surreal.
04:22So okay, I got it.
04:23No, no, no, say what you wanted to say to that woman.
04:26Girl, you need to get up out of here, you need to go, run, run, girl.
04:34That's the line that cracks me up every time I hear that one.
04:40It was what, a year or two removed from the trial, right?
04:43It was probably, no, it was more like about four years removed from the time that he was
04:51prosecuted.
04:52And dare I say, people want to hear that he was, by a jury of his peers, he was told that
05:02he was innocent.
05:03So I don't care what people think, you know, that's what happened at the end of the day.
05:08Trial of the century.
05:10They got him down the road, you know, they're going to make him pay one way or another,
05:13I guess.
05:14All right.
05:15Next question on that video.
05:16If someone gave you a box of everything you've ever lost, what would you look for?
05:20This one, I have no idea.
05:22I can't even think of something.
05:23I mean, I guess it goes to show you how materialistic things don't matter all that much.
05:28You know, if it's, I can't even think of one thing, but what's something that you could
05:30think of?
05:31Thing that I lost and I couldn't find.
05:36Just think of a box of everything you ever lost and you're like, it's in there.
05:41Whatever it is, that one thing that you that you look for.
05:45That's a good one.
05:46Now, that's a good question.
05:48When you asked, I'm like a box.
05:50It was lost.
05:51I don't know.
05:52I found most of those things that I wanted.
05:53So I wouldn't doubt when I'm going to pass.
05:56Give me the next one.
05:57This episode of the Cedric Maxwell podcast is brought to you by Price Picks.

06:11Unlike other apps on Price Picks, it's just you against the numbers.
06:15All you do is pick more or less on two to six player stat projections and watch the
06:20winnings roll in.
06:22One Caleb Williams passing yard gets you one win on Price Picks every week in September.
06:27That's right.
06:28Only one yard gets you an automatic win every football weekend in September.
06:32Four weeks of free W's.
06:34Don't miss out on this deal on Price Picks because it's gone when September ends.
06:39You can win up to a hundred times your money on Price Picks with just as little as four
06:43correct picks.
06:44For example, I got Jamar Chase receiving more than 79.5 yards.
06:48All right, so I'm taking the more on that and that's all it takes.
06:53You either pick more or less.
06:54It is that easy.
06:56Running back Zach Williams is at 13.5 rush attempts.
06:59I'm taking more on that as well.
07:02Boom.
07:03That simple.
07:04I got my picks right there and I'm set for the week.
07:06That's just an example of the kind of picks that you can make when you play on Price Picks.
07:11Download the Price Picks app today and use code CLNS and get 50 instantly when you play
07:16$5.
07:17That's code CLNS on Price Picks to get $50 instantly when you play $5.
07:23You don't need to win to receive the $50 bonus.
07:26It's guaranteed.
07:28Price Picks, run your game.
07:30I was going to say, the only thing that crossed my mind was my old car, but I didn't really
07:35like it.
07:36It stopped working.
07:37It's not like I lost it.
07:38I woke up one day and it was gone, so I don't know if that applies to you.
07:41Only thing I could think about that I had was an old Valentine's card from an old girlfriend
07:53and I had already treasured it and kept it for the longest time and ended up losing it
07:59and never found it again.
08:01Never came up again.
08:02Like, you know, you've got papers and you keep papers to a special place.
08:06I always thought that that Valentine's card was going to be there, somebody I dated in
08:11New York and I lost it and never found it again, so that'd be one thing I'd say I lost
08:16and never found again.
08:17You ever thought about asking one of the girlfriends you dated after that girl?
08:21Nope.
08:22No, I don't think so.
08:23Did you burn this thing up?
08:26If I had to, if I had to crack the case, that's where I would start, but all right, got you.
08:32That's a good one.
08:33All right, next one.
08:35If you had a chance to relive one day of your life, which day would it be?
08:47The final four, the game I played against Marquette, and just to visualize that game
08:56again, to go back through it, the final four going there.
09:03Championship run in 1981, being the finals MVP, but go back to a day, that could possibly
09:09be it.
09:10That day?
09:11That day.
09:12Going back to that particular day.
09:13What was that like that morning?
09:15Were you jittery?
09:16Were you excited?
09:17All of it?
09:18The series was 3-2, and we were in Houston, and I remember getting up that morning and
09:28thinking, man, if we play well enough, we'll be the world champions, and just going out
09:34there and playing well, and winning that first world championship, and what that day was
09:40like and how it cultivated, eventually grew into this own entity.
09:48I think the strangest thing about that day was the last hour of that day, to be in an
09:55arena of 20,000 screaming fans, all your teammates, and then finally going back to the hotel and
10:03being in your room by yourself, and it was dead quiet.
10:07That was the most eerie thing, but that was such a special day that I will always remember.
10:13That's incredible, man.
10:15That's a good one.
10:16All right.
10:17I like that.
10:18I like that answer.
10:19Okay.
10:20Next one.
10:21If you could receive a letter from your future self, what advice or insight would you hope
10:25to find in it?
10:28I think that letter would be that you are a commander of your life.
10:38Don't let anybody else make decisions for you, and what I mean by that is that when
10:47I had attorneys in the NBA at that time, financially, I let them make decisions for me, and the
10:56decisions weren't good decisions.
10:59It turned out to be bad decisions, bad choices, and I was more mad at myself than I was at
11:04them because I didn't step up.
11:07My advice in my letter, I would say, trust your instinct.
11:12Be your own leader.
11:14Make your own decisions, especially those important ones.
11:19That's good stuff right there, man.
11:20I just feel like today, it's just so different in a sense of people have their financial
11:27advisors.
11:28There's obviously agents, but there's other guys out there that NBA players can turn to.
11:32But here's the thing that I'm stressing.
11:36Those people, they work for you.
11:39You don't work for them.
11:42They are your employee, not your employer.
11:47Your attorney, your advisor, your financial guy, that guy works for you.
11:52He gets to check from you.
11:54Your decisions, you tell him what to do, not him telling you what to do.
11:58That would be my most important thing I would tell to myself.
12:01Okay.
12:02All right.
12:03Next one is, if you had a chance to revisit a moment from your past, what would it be
12:07and what would you do differently?
12:09Instead of like the other question, instead of just reliving it and just reliving the
12:13entire day and not changing anything, pick a day that you would go back and what would
12:18you change about that?
12:21Probably getting married so young.
12:26How old were you?
12:28Your first marriage?
12:29Yeah.
12:30I only had one marriage.
12:31Oh, excuse me.
12:32That's right.
12:33Yeah.
12:34Yeah.
12:35So probably, I wouldn't have gotten married so young either way.
12:42Now I have the most special kids from my marriage that one could have.
12:47But being 28 years old as a man, as an NBA player, that was way too young for me to get
12:54married.
12:56So I would say if I can go back and revisit one thing, that would be it.
13:00And not like I hate my ex-wife or all that stuff, but if I was advising my child or my
13:08sons, I'd say, dude, you got to live your life first.
13:11I was 28 years old in the middle of the NBA and decided to get married.
13:16And that wasn't the best decision, being very candid as we are normally on this show.
13:24Right.
13:25That's what we do, man.
13:26Keep it 100.
13:27There you go.
13:28Yeah.
13:29Let's keep it at 100.
13:30Yeah.
13:31For real.
13:32All right.
13:33Okay.
13:34Last question.
13:35If you had to define your purpose in one sentence, what would it be and how does it influence
13:40the choices you make in your daily life?
13:43That's a deep one.
13:47Being honest.
13:48Even if it's brutally honest, I say if somebody has something that I didn't want to eat and
13:55I ate it anyway, I'd be like, damn, that was nasty.
13:59Or somebody wears something, I'm going, dude, that's ugly, that's hideous.
14:05Or you wear the woman or something and she's telling you about the dress.
14:08Just honest, honestly.
14:09Yeah, man.
14:10You used to do that with Bobby sometimes.
14:11You go, yo, Bobby, don't wear that.
14:12Yeah, yeah.
14:13Bobby Manning.
14:14Yeah, Bobby.
14:15Bobby, your guy Bobby right now, he come out like this Sherlock Holmes hat.
14:22I'm like, Bobby Manning, what the hell are you wearing?
14:27What did you say?
14:28Gilligan's Island or something?
14:29They have a hat that look like Gilligan's Island.
14:31I'm like, Bobby-
14:32Oh, that was a different one, I guess.
14:33Yeah.
14:34You working with the press right now.
14:36You got to stand out.
14:38So-
14:39Yeah.
14:40Yeah.
14:41That's probably my thing.
14:42The fact that just being honest with people, trying not to sugarcoat things.
14:47And as you and I say right now, keeping it on the 100, making sure that that's put in,
14:55that you keep it on the 100, lets everybody know right now where you're at and where you
15:00stand.

16:42Game Time.
16:43Definitely.
16:44Keeps you authentic for sure, man.
16:46Yeah.
16:47Unapologetically yourself.
16:48I feel like that's a big part of it as well because, you know, sooner or later people
16:51see through it.
16:52You know, if you're trying to be someone that you're not or if you're, or you know, you're
16:55going the other way, being fake or you're trying to impress someone in a way that's
16:58not genuine.
16:59I feel like sooner or later people see the true colors.
17:02Yeah.
17:03Now I'll go even further.
17:04And when I say this, I saw a reel also.
17:07And so I'll ask you on camera, you know, it was black history reel.
17:12And it was a black woman talking to some white people and also talking to some, some black
17:17people.
17:18Uh, the first question she asked, I'll ask you is as a young child, at what time did
17:24you know to come into the house?
17:26Oh man.
17:28When the, uh, when the streetlights are on, that's how, you know, I'm telling you now
17:35the worst is the worst is when the streetlights are on.
17:38And then it's like, as soon as you're approaching your house, it's like dark, dark, so you can
17:41really see the lights.
17:42Oh, you late.
17:43You are late.
17:44When the streetlights come on and you are 15 minutes away from your house.
17:50Exactly.
17:51Yeah.
17:52Because you know, when the streetlights come on, it's not dark yet.
17:55It's just like, it's like a heads up.
17:57It's about to be pitch black soon.
17:58Take your ass.
17:59Hold it.
18:00That's pretty much what it is.
18:01Yeah.
18:02No.
18:03Number two was number two was, uh, what does it mean if a brother comes up and when will
18:07you get it back?
18:08If a brother comes up to you and saying, yo man, let me hold $20 till tomorrow when you
18:13get the money back.
18:14You might never get that thing back.
18:16I mean, if anything, if anything, that dude owes you a sandwich or he owes you, you know,
18:23next time you kick it in somewhere, but you got to keep that in your back pocket.
18:27To see that actual 20 now you ain't seen that again.
18:29This is funny.
18:30Where'd you see this?
18:31It was a real Instagram.
18:32It was a real same real that you saw.
18:35Other question was funny said, and she asked the black, she asked her, she asked a white
18:40person this and then she asked a black person and then she said, ask him, said, when, uh,
18:47somebody calls you and said, I'm about 15 minutes away.
18:51And she has said, asked the white guy, I said, what does that mean?
18:54I guess you'll be there in about 15 minutes.
18:57And then she asked the black guy, that's all to ask you.
19:02What does that mean?
19:03If I say to you, yo man, I'm about 15 minutes away.
19:08I might see you in about a half hour to 45 minutes or so, maybe later, but then you got
19:15to change that.
19:16It was the best part of that was the black dude said, I need, you ain't even left your
19:21motherfucking house yet.
19:22I said, tape.
19:23I said, I said, I said, yeah, I'll be with him.
19:24He'd be like, yeah, we're 15 minutes away.
19:25I'd be like, yo, we still at the house.
19:26I'm telling my mom and dad, I'm like, do not tell him 15 minutes.
19:41Yeah.
19:42Absolutely crazy.
19:43Then there was, I'm trying to think of the last one that she said, but they had me in
19:49stitches when they started talking about, you know, people of color and how they view
19:54things.
19:55Oh, that was the other one.
19:56This was the other one.
19:57What about parties though?
19:58They should ask about parties.
19:59That's a different one too.
20:00I'll let you know.
20:01Here's another one.
20:02As a black child.
20:05What did it mean?
20:06I see.
20:07What did you think you were going to get when you went to, what did your parents tell you
20:10when you, no, what did you think you were going to get when you went to a grocery store
20:14with your parents?
20:15What would they say to you?
20:16Oh man.
20:17Don't ask me for it.
20:19That's damn true.
20:20When you go into this footage.
20:29Sometimes you ask at the line and you get one.
20:30I don't know about parents like that, but you're right.
20:33Look, don't ask for shit.
20:34Don't touch shit.
20:35You come to attitudes so quick.
20:40I love this.
20:41When you pick up a box of cereal, going, hey can we have this?
20:45Yeah, we have this they're going
20:48You don't put that down cereal back right now, you know only got five dollars
20:54How much money I can feel when I came in here? Oh, they just remind you with what they said before
20:59What did I tell you before we came in?
21:03Didn't tell you
21:05Why are you asking me for something?
21:08Licking them all great. That takes me back. That's the way they look at you going
21:13I know I talked to what come here. What'd I tell you?
21:19Now, this is what you knew
21:21This is what you knew you might you might be alive for something right when you didn't get the conversation
21:26You were just everyone's in a good mood
21:27You guys are laughing you're kicking it and then when you get to that, you know the line
21:31And you look to your left you see those candy bars or sodas, whatever you got your eye on
21:36That's just that's your time right there. That's your shot to ask
21:39But the reason you caught the attitude right when they say right from the beginning is because you know that closes the door for any
21:46opportunity for a snack
21:48Before you go into the store and they tell you before we walk up in here, you know
21:54Well, you walk up in here don't ask the shit don't touch shit don't look at shit
22:01Could you cuz you ain't getting shit
22:05Now let's go
22:07Now you you did this when they asked you you ready you ready to go in what you need me for that
22:16Okay, you're not tortured me I read you told me what I can't get I

23:50That's another one then the other one the last one there was
23:54What would your parents say to you if you kept it down frigerator over too long? Oh, man
23:59Yo, if you just made like three or four consecutive trips that were unnecessary
24:07Talk to it like yo
24:18Did you think it was gonna change that
24:20I
24:34Think the worst thing my father used to tell me was oh my god
24:38We just have water and you drink it all the way down to by right there
24:41We just leave a swig in there and parents would go
24:45You couldn't put you couldn't so damn lazy you could put no cold water back into the
24:53Man oh my god that black here at black history thing was funny as hell
25:03But just those questions but man that thing about the refrigerator

25:11What do you expect to get when you go with your parents to let's go happen. Yep. Thank you this speech
25:18It really I knew exactly what the answer was on us because they would ask some white people say oh, so yeah
25:24She talked to you about what you're gonna get and I'm black not a black kid
25:28Oh, man, white folks you pull up like you say 50 minutes you pull up 20 and they'd be like, oh I was worried
25:37Or a party, oh man, you got like a
25:40Hour not even like a half-hour window. Otherwise you labeled late you use
25:46Yeah, you just remind me man like I see played outside for hours like that you go inside the house, you know
25:50It's hot summertime and this used to drive my mom crazy
25:54Oh, my Joel and I would do it sometime. We would just open the freezer and just stick our head
26:01My mom caught us doing that
26:03Oh
26:07Jump in the shower, what is wrong with you?
26:11He's sticking your head in the freezer
