00:00Our failure to establish a ceasefire is no longer justifiable. We have run out of excuses.
00:11Foreign Minister Mohamed Hassan said reform of the Security Council was a matter of life
00:15and death given Israel's ongoing onslaught on Gaza.
00:20Addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday, Mohamed said the veto
00:24power of the Council's five big powers had been abused to enable mass atrocities.
00:31It is time to address the problem. The veto should not be exercised at will. There must
00:37be interceptions in cases of crimes against humanity and attacks of civilian infrastructure.
00:45Veto power over resolutions of the Security Council is held by five permanent members
00:49— Britain, China, France, Russia, and the U.S.
00:56Mohamed also said the U.N. stood at a critical juncture after world leaders failed to end
01:00the killing of Palestinians.
01:03Understand this, our willingness to reform is a matter of life and death of countless
01:09innocent people.
01:10Malaysia and other nations had previously sought an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, only
01:14to be shot down through the veto.
