00:00Former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will return to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court
00:06to face four charges of abusing his position to receive 232.5 million ringgit in bribes
00:12for Bersatu.
00:13This follows a decision by a five-member Court of Appeal bench today to dismiss his review
00:18application.
00:19The ruling means the decision of a three-member Court of Appeal bench, which on February 28
00:24set aside a High Court ruling acquitting the former Prime Minister of the charges, has
00:28been maintained.
00:29In delivering the unanimous ruling, Bench Chairman Justice Aziza Nawawi said Muhyiddin's
00:34contention that the previous panel had no jurisdiction to hear the appeal from the High
00:38Court would lead to absurdity.
00:40Aziza said the High Court would have unlimited jurisdiction when an accused is acquitted
00:44without a trial, adding that this would leave the prosecution with no remedy to appeal.
00:48Muhyiddin is charged with abusing his power as Prime Minister between February 8 and August
00:5320, 2021, in connection with the Jana Wibawa Programme by seeking to obtain 232.5 million
00:59ringgit for Bersatu.
