00:00Najib Razak seized on a recent comment by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to claim that

00:05he was a victim of selective prosecution following the 14th General Election seven years ago.

00:11The former Prime Minister, who was ousted from power in 2018, said Anwar's statement

00:15underlined and validated his own concerns that the court cases against him were politically

00:20motivated.

00:22Reading from his witness statement in the High Court, Najib made reference to Anwar's

00:25admission that the prosecution of several cases following the 2018 General Election

00:30was flawed as it had been done hardly and with venom and enmity.

00:35Najib also said the statement lent credence to his claim that the investigations conducted

00:39in ongoing 1MDB cases were shoddy.

00:43He has repeatedly claimed that the authorities, especially the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission,

00:47failed to explain the specifics of the charges against him, preventing him from presenting

00:52a complete picture to the court, and restricting his ability to mount a successful defense.

00:57Najib added that a number of prosecution witnesses who testified, including former 1MDB General

01:02Counsel Jasmine Liu, were themselves criminally liable for several critical decisions but

01:07were not prosecuted.

01:09Najib is charged with 25 counts of money laundering and abuse of power over alleged 1MDB funds

01:14amounting to US$681 million deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011

01:21and December 2014.
