02:58And now, here is Dr. Jeremiah with his message, King Jesus.
03:04I want to talk to you about the glory and majesty and power and authority of King Jesus and his kingdom.
03:14He's the redeeming king, and we see that in the way he's addressed in the Bible.
03:20This is straight from the Scripture, so let me just cycle through these names because they're all interesting.
03:26First of all, the Bible refers to Jesus as King of the Jews.
03:31That's interesting because it only is found in the Bible at the birth of Jesus and at his death.
03:37Remember at the birth of Jesus, the wise men came, said,
03:40We are come to seek out he who has come as the King of the Jews.
03:44We want to know where's the King of the Jews.
03:47And then at his death, it was a discussion.
03:51When Jesus stood before Pontius Pilate, the governor asked him,
03:55Are you the King of the Jews?
03:57And Jesus said, It is as you say.
04:01Addressing the mob before him, Pilate shouted,
04:04Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?
04:08What then would you want me to do with whom you call the King of the Jews?
04:13And their response was, Crucify him.
04:16And Pilate handed over Christ for crucifixion
04:19along with a strange order for the executioners.
04:22He said, I want you to make a sign and nail the sign on the top of the cross
04:26and this is what the sign said, The King of the Jews.
04:32That was our Lord's title in his birth and in his death,
04:37uttered by the magi, the magistrates, the mob,
04:40the markings on his cross, and ultimately by the master himself.
04:46The Bible tells us also he's the King of Israel.
04:50In a similar way, Nathanael in John 149 said,
04:54Rabbi, you are the Son of God.
04:57You are the King of Israel.
05:00And on Palm Sunday when the men and women celebrated
05:03Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem, this is what they sang,
05:06Hosanna, blessed he who comes in the name of the Lord,
05:10the King of Israel.
05:12Five days later, as Jesus suffered on Golgotha,
05:15one of his enemies shouted sarcastically,
05:19If he is the King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross
05:23and we will believe him.
05:26According to this and other scriptures,
05:28Jesus is the only rightful, everlasting heir
05:32to the throne of David.
05:34He's the King of Israel.
05:37He's the King of the Jews and he's the King of Israel.
05:41And the Bible tells us, here's one I love,
05:43he's the King of Kings.
05:45In Revelation, there's a beautiful picture of this.
05:48It describes Jesus in heaven just before he returns.
05:52He has on his robe and on his thigh a name written,
05:56King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
06:00And we live in a disturbed world, men and women.
06:03Let's don't doubt that and don't debate it.
06:05We know better.
06:07But none of today's politicians or leaders or villains or rogues
06:10will ever gain supreme authority,
06:13not even the coming Antichrist.
06:15All will falter, all will fail,
06:19for only Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
06:23One day every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess
06:27that my King is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
06:32And then...
06:34Yeah.
06:37One of the things that surprises people about the kingdom,
06:41the millennium, the coming golden age,
06:44is that it won't just happen in the Middle East,
06:47but when Jesus sits on the throne in Jerusalem,
06:50he will govern the whole world.
06:53He will be in charge of everything that happens
06:56on planet earth.
06:58That's why his fourth title is King Over All the Earth.
07:03The prophet Zechariah adds this title to our Lord.
07:06He says,
07:08The Lord shall be King over all the earth,
07:11and in that day it shall be.
07:13The Lord is one and his name is one.
07:18When King Jesus is King of the earth,
07:22every knee shall bow and every tongue confess.
07:25He will rule over the entire world.
07:30Finally, he's the King of Glory.
07:34The last royal title is found in Psalm 24.
07:38Psalm 24 reads like this.
07:41Lift up your heads, O ye gates,
07:44and be lifted up, ye everlasting doors,
07:47and the King of Glory shall come in.
07:50Who is the King of Glory?
07:52The Lord of Hosts.
07:54He is the King of Glory.
07:56That's our Lord's millennial title.
07:59He's the King of the Jews.
08:00He's the King of Israel.
08:02He's the King of Kings.
08:03The King over all the earth.
08:04And he is the King of Glory.
08:06He alone is truly great.
08:09He's our Messiah.
08:12He's our intercessor.
08:14He's the compassionate servant,
08:15the humble teacher, and the selfless Savior.
08:18But never forget this, men and women.
08:21He is Christ the King.
08:24That speaks to his sovereignty.
08:26That says he's in charge of it all,
08:28that his Word is the final Word.
08:31Nothing can stabilize our emotions like remembering
08:34we have a King in heaven who is in charge.
08:39He commands, he controls,
08:40and nothing is exempt from his preeminent power.
08:44That's why so many people find him
08:47so much an anchor for their souls.
08:52Is he your King?
08:53I know he's your Savior if you're a Christian.
08:56But it's one thing to have Jesus as your Savior.
08:58It's another thing to have him be your King.
09:01You see, he doesn't want to just be your resident in your life.
09:04He wants to be the president of your life.
09:07And when you put him on the throne,
09:08you're saying, Lord Jesus, thank you for being my Savior.
09:13And now I want to take this moment and ask you
09:16not just to be my Savior, but I've been trying to do
09:18a lot of things on my own, and I'm making kind of
09:20a mess out of it if you want to know the truth.
09:23So, I'm going to put you on the throne of my life,
09:25and I'm not going to do anything unless we talk about it.
09:28Unless we discuss it.
09:30Unless I get your go-ahead on it.
09:32You say, well, that's kind of simple.
09:34It's dynamically life-changing when you do that.
09:39When you realize you're not the pilot, you're the co-pilot,
09:43and you put Jesus where he wants to be.
09:45One day he's going to be king on the outside,
09:48ruling over you from that perspective.
09:51But now he wants to be king on the inside.
09:54He wants to be your King.
09:56He's my King.
09:58The Bible also says that not only is he the King now,
10:01but one day he's going to be a King who reigns over the earth.
10:06When Jesus came the first time, he came as a redeeming King,
10:10and he established a group of people.
10:13Jesus followers we're called, and he reigns over us,
10:17and we do his work, and we come to the church every weekend
10:20to celebrate that we love God and we love Jesus,
10:23and we know he's the King.
10:26But the Bible is mostly full of Scripture telling us
10:30about what's going to happen when Jesus comes back
10:33at the end of the tribulation
10:35and sets up his kingdom on this earth.
10:38So many people have said that what will happen then
10:42is the reverse of the curse.
10:44For in the early parts of the Bible,
10:46we realize what happened when sin entered
10:49and the curse was placed upon the world.
10:52If Adam and Eve hadn't sinned, we'd be living
10:54in a much better, different world.
10:56But that world is coming back, and in the kingdom,
10:59we'll have the world that we would have had
11:02if there had been no sin.
11:05Robert Strauss was a brilliant political strategist
11:08who served under several presidents,
11:11from Jimmy Carter to George H.W. Bush.
11:15He made this interesting statement
11:17about the world in which we live.
11:19He said, everybody in government is like a bunch of ants
11:22on a log floating down a river,
11:24and each of them thinks he's guiding the log,
11:27but he's just going along with the flow.
11:29Isn't that true?
11:31Have you ever noticed how the self-importance
11:33of all of the government officials,
11:35everybody thinks they're running the show?
11:37They're not running the show.
11:39They're just going with the flow.
11:41That can be said of all the rulers of history.
11:44All have died or will die, and none has risen from the dead.
11:49All of them have dominated the headlines
11:51for a period, but none has divided history in two
11:54like Jesus did.
11:57The rulers of this world enjoy limited authority
12:00for a limited time.
12:02Only Jesus possesses infinite authority for all eternity.
12:08There will never be a time when he is not king.
12:12So, what will it be like when Jesus is king?
12:15I want to give you a little taste of that today
12:17in this message.
12:19First of all, when he reigns on this earth,
12:21his kingdom is universal.
12:24He will rule over a universal kingdom.
12:28Our Lord's kingdom will be based in Jerusalem, Israel,
12:31on its expanded geography,
12:33and it will be the dominant nation in the earth.
12:37You know, Israel gets a lot of attention now
12:39for a nation that's 70 miles wide and 263 miles long.
12:47It's like a little postage stamp when you see it on a map,
12:51surrounded by nations that want to annihilate it.
12:55But from that place in the millennium,
12:58our Lord's reign will spread northward to Russia,
13:01eastward to Asia, southward to Africa,
13:04and the Pacific Rim, and praise the Lord,
13:07it will spread westward into Europe and the Americas,
13:11and the entire globe will spin under the axis of Jesus.
13:17All the nations will sway to his authority.
13:20We need to remember that when we read the headlines.
13:23One day, all of this craziness is gonna stop,
13:26and we won't have to deal with it anymore.
13:30So, the kingdom is universal.
13:32He's the king over all the earth, says the Scripture.
13:36And then his kingdom is physical.
13:38This king will have an intimate relationship
13:42with his subjects,
13:44and nothing expresses that like the way he deals
13:48with the infirmities that will enter into the kingdom.
13:52Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
13:54and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped,
13:57and the lame shall leap like a deer,
13:59and the tongue of the dumb sing,
14:01for water shall burst forth in the wilderness
14:04and streams in the desert.
14:07The miraculous presence of the Lord will change everything.
14:11Sickness will be destroyed, and all of these maladies
14:15that I've read in this verse will be nonexistent.
14:19The same prophet said this in another place.
14:22They shall build houses and inhabit them.
14:25They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
14:28They shall not build and another inhabit.
14:30They shall not plant and another eat,
14:33for as the days of a tree,
14:35so shall be the days of my people,
14:37and my elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands."
14:40So, the kingdom will be universal.
14:42It'll be physical.
14:44And then, of course, it'll be spiritual.
14:47His kingdom will be a time of spiritual revival.
14:51Satan, as you know, will be bound,
14:53and Jesus will be in control.
14:56And we'll see a heart awakening that is unprecedented
14:59in history.
15:00According to Zechariah, the entire nation of Israel
15:03will return to Jesus.
15:05Zechariah 12 says,
15:25During the millennium,
15:27what is going on right now will be reversed.
15:30What's going on right now?
15:32When I first started preaching years ago,
15:35I would have to say there was a general understanding
15:38and appreciation and reverence for the things of God.
15:42Even people who weren't Christians,
15:44they kind of admired those who were.
15:48There was a respect for God and a respect for Christians.
15:51How many of you know that's not true anymore?
15:54In fact, as a pastor,
15:56one of the things I have to think about,
15:58and all you who are teachers in this room,
16:00you should think about it too.
16:02You can't assume the knowledge of the Bible
16:05and the knowledge of Christianity that you once could
16:08because many people have gone to churches
16:10where the Bible hasn't been taught regularly,
16:13and so you may say something you think everybody knows,
16:16but you better explain it
16:18because there's a lot of people out there that don't know.
16:20That's not because we're ignorant.
16:22It's not your fault.
16:23That's where our world is, but listen to me.
16:25When Jesus is on the throne again,
16:28the knowledge of the Lord will fill the land,
16:32and you can go and talk to anybody about Jesus
16:34because they'll all know about him.
16:36It won't make any difference where you are or who you are
16:38or where you've been or where you're going.
16:40Run into somebody and say,
16:42how's Jesus doing with you today?
16:44Because everybody will know the Lord,
16:46and his name will be on the tongue
16:48of all those in the millennium.
16:50What a day that's going to be.
16:53His kingdom will be spiritual.
16:57His kingdom is universal and physical and spiritual,
17:00and it's ethical.
17:02Here's a few things that won't be in the kingdom.
17:06No more homelessness.
17:09No more riots.
17:11Absolutely no more anti-Semitism.
17:15No more thievery.
17:17You think of all the bad things that are happening
17:19in our world today that are new to us
17:21that we haven't known before.
17:24Those things are all gone.
17:26The white-hot holiness of King Jesus will purge them out,
17:31and we won't live in a world that's troubled
17:33by all this evil that makes us say every night,
17:36why don't they do something about that?
17:39Isaiah says,
17:41"'The king's delight is in the fear of the Lord,
17:44and he shall not judge by the sight of his eyes
17:47or decide by the hearing of his ears,
17:50but with righteousness he shall judge the poor
17:53and decide with equity for the meek of the earth.
17:56He shall strike the earth with the rot of his mouth,
17:59and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.'"
18:02And the psalmist adds,
18:05"'The king will judge your people with righteousness.
18:08He will bring justice to the poor of the people.
18:11He will save the children of the needy.
18:13He will break in pieces the oppressor,
18:16for he will deliver the needy when he cries,
18:19and the poor also, and him who has no helper,
18:22and precious shall be their blood in his sight.'"
18:26When King Jesus is on the throne,
18:29the nation and the world
18:31will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord.
18:34And finally, the kingdom is eternal.
18:37One of these days, the thousand-year reign will be over,
18:40and the Bible says, and the kingdoms of this world
18:43will become the kingdoms of God, the kingdoms of eternity.
18:47So, there'll be just a transition
18:49when the thousand-year reign is over.
18:51We go right from the thousand years
18:53into our eternal heavenly spot with the Lord Jesus.
18:57And the Lord is king forever and ever.
19:02That is what we're looking forward to.
19:04We have a king who is never gonna outlast himself.
19:08He's never gonna be replaced.
19:10We don't have to worry about his successor
19:12because he doesn't have one,
19:14and he doesn't have a predecessor either.
19:17He's the holy king,
19:19and he lives in the ever-present, and listen to me.
19:22All these wonderful things I'm saying about him,
19:24he's my king, the king of my heart.
19:28He's on the throne of my life, and I love my king,
19:32and I'm so honored to serve him,
19:35and I hope you feel the same way.
19:37This king who will one day reign on this earth
19:40is the same king who wants to reign in your life
19:43and sit on the throne of your heart.
19:46You don't have to do life alone.
19:48You don't have to make all those mistakes
19:50and wonder, why did I do that?
19:53For the same sovereign king who's at the throne of the Father
19:58wants to be on the throne of your life.
20:01Right now on earth, he is the king.
20:06You know, there are only 43 monarchies left on earth,
20:11only 43, most of which are ceremonial in nature.
20:15It's more common today to have presidents
20:17and prime ministers, or in some areas,
20:19we all sadly know there are dictators.
20:23But as our politics and democracies have evolved,
20:27the world has deteriorated.
20:29And one global think tank issued a report on the world
20:32in 2024 which said,
20:342024 will be a year of ballots and bullets.
20:40The elections held in more than 70 countries
20:43will serve as a stress test for democracy.
20:49We don't know where this is all gonna lead us,
20:51but ladies and gentlemen, there is one thing
20:53we can predict with certainty.
20:55One day, the world's throne will be occupied by Jesus Christ,
21:00king of the Jews, king of Israel, king of kings,
21:04king of all the world.
21:06Remember, it is through the lens of biblical prophecy
21:09that we should view the conflicts of today
21:12and find our hope for tomorrow.
21:15That's where we're headed.
21:16Things are gonna get better.
21:18They may get a little worse before they get better
21:20depending on how long the Savior waits,
21:23but we got a great future ahead of us,
21:25and a little bit of the greatness of that future
21:28is in our hearts just to keep us hungry
21:31for when it will be the law of the land.
21:34What a thrill it is to know the king
21:36and to address him in that way.
21:40A travel magazine recently ran an article
21:43for people who wanted to visit
21:45the seven most beautiful thrones in the world.
21:49Three of them are in India, another one is in Russia,
21:52and there's a dragon throne in China.
21:55The sixth throne is St. Edward's Chair
21:58in Westminster Abbey in England,
22:00and the seventh is the Silver Throne of Sweden,
22:03which is designed to express purity.
22:07You can find all of these thrones in the history books,
22:12and you can find the Silver Throne
22:14in the Hall of State in the Stockholm Palace.
22:17But none of these seven are really very significant.
22:21Some are used for ceremonial occasions,
22:24but most are just for people to come and look at.
22:27They're tourist traps.
22:30The glory has faded, the power has seeped away,
22:33and it makes you wonder,
22:35what kind of a throne is King Jesus gonna have?
22:39I wanna end today by telling you
22:42that his throne is under construction.
22:45One day, he will have a throne in Jerusalem,
22:49and it will be something to see.
22:52There's one other throne I wanna tell you about,
22:55and that's the one that matters most.
22:57It's the throne God has placed in our hearts.
23:01Of all the kingly titles of Jesus Christ,
23:03the one that is most personal to you and me
23:05is when we say, Lord, you are my king.
23:09You are my king.
23:11I vacate the throne of my heart, Lord, and I give it to you.
23:15I want you to rule and reign in my life.
23:17Under my control, I make too many mistakes
23:20and get in too many messes.
23:23Forgive me for ever thinking I could be my own monarch,
23:27that I could ever chart my own destiny.
23:29So here and now I say, in the words of an old hymn,
23:32king of my life, I crown you now.
23:36Thine shall the glory be.
23:39The moment we receive Jesus Christ as Lord,
23:43a coronation takes place inside of us.
23:46Jesus becomes the king of our lives,
23:49and we give him the glory.
23:51So I want to urge you to let Jesus Christ be your king.
23:55You say, how will that change me?
23:58You won't go off doing crazy things
24:00without having a discussion.
24:02You will talk to the Lord about the thing.
24:04You say, well, he's not it.
24:05Oh, yes, he is.
24:06He's your king.
24:07You're his subject.
24:08He wants to know what's going on in your life,
24:12and he will give you direction.
24:13He will send you to the right Scriptures,
24:15to the right sermon, to the right person.
24:18He will show you the way.
24:20You can count on it.
24:22You can either do life as a Christian on your own
24:25and be miserable and frustrated the rest of your life,
24:27or you can install Jesus Christ as king
24:30on the throne of your heart
24:32and watch him do the things he wants to do.
24:34He wants to make his name famous
24:37through the influence that you give him.
24:40I hope you will do that.
24:42And then, of course, he can't be your king
24:45unless, first of all, he's your Savior.
24:47You can't install Jesus Christ as king on your life throne
24:52unless you first of all invited him to come
24:54and forgive you of your sin,
24:56and you've become a Christian.
24:58Only Christians can install Jesus as king of their life.
25:02So the question I want to ask you as we close today,
25:05and I've been asking this every week,
25:07and I'm not gonna stop,
25:09is Jesus Christ not just your king,
25:12but is he your Savior?
25:14Have you ever trusted him and asked him to forgive your sin
25:17and to come and live in your life?
