00:00By admitting he willingly used falsehoods to become a Filipino, Tony Yang, according to authorities, may already face multiple charges.
00:09But the Department of Justice or DOJ is not content with just these legal ramifications and is digging deeper to make sure more cases can and will be filed against him.
00:20This is the report.
00:23Since the government's investigation on the illegal operation of Pogos in the country has shifted to Tony Yang, brother of Michael Yang,
00:31who is an economic advisor during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte,
00:36the Department of Justice is now investigating him and his alleged crimes in the country.
00:41As a matter of fact, the Bureau of Immigration, NBI, the PAOC, and Anti-Money Laundering Council are mulling what cases they can file against Yang.
00:51They are looking at the various businesses of Tony Yang, the warehouse, the possible Pogo, to see what can be more serious crimes against him.
01:03Even the land ownership issues.
01:06Because he has his Filipino identity and he got his ID, and he used his Filipino identity to own corporations and lands.
01:19But since Yang has confessed in a Senate hearing, he falsified his birth certificate, he may be charged for falsification of documents and illegal use of aliases.
01:28These are cases punishable by deportation if convicted.
01:31But the DOJ insists Yang must first face his crimes in a court of law in the country.
01:36The NBI and our fiscals in Region 10 are now mulling the minor cases that can be filed against him so that he will not be deported,
01:46so that he will have a reason to be left in the Philippines and face criminal cases.
01:49We have a choice between immediate deportation and filing of criminal cases.
01:53I think that the filing of criminal cases takes precedence now.
01:57We need to file a case so that we can get to the bottom of it.
02:02As of now, aside from Yang, the DOJ is thoroughly investigating the illegal operations of POGOs in Porak, Pampanga and Bamban, Tarlac.
02:10Preliminary investigation has started on the qualified human trafficking complaint against Cassandra Ong, as well as the anti-money laundering complaint against Alice Guwo.
02:19Meanwhile, the DOJ is also taking action to reduce the numbers of PDLs suffering from unwanted extension of serving time behind bars.
02:28The DOJ has signed an agreement with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to help lawyers understand the partnership between prosecutors,
02:36law enforcement agencies and councils on filing cases with a certainty of conviction.
02:41When you file your case, be ready for trial. You cannot file your case based on an affidavit.
02:48If everything is ready, the system will run faster, the justice system will run faster.
02:53The signed agreement is anchored on the new rules of preliminary investigation which the DOJ and the President approved.
03:00Louisa Erispe, from the National TV Network for ANEW and Vector Philippines.
