00:00Results of the latest major pollster survey on crime have put law enforcement, the Philippine
00:05National Police in particular, standing up, speaking out, and seeking more data and answers.
00:12And the PNP has reason to challenge the results given its latest figures gathered showing
00:17a noteworthy drop in the crime index for the 11 months of this year.
00:22Our Ryan Lasigas tells us more.
00:25The Philippine National Police or PNP challenged the result of a survey conducted by the social
00:39weather stations or SWS, stating that the number of families victimized by common crimes
00:44in the country rose to 6.1 percent from September 14 to 23, according to SWS.
00:51SWS is 2.3 points higher compared to the 3.8 percent recorded in June 2024 among the
00:58common crimes identified by SWS are pickpocketing, theft, carnapping, and physical violence.
01:05There is also a record high increase to 7.2 percent in families victimized by cyber crimes
01:11up from 3.8 percent recorded in June 2024.
01:14However, according to the PNP, index crimes recorded in the country decreased by 13.51
01:21percent in the first 11 months of 2024.
01:25This means that from over 35,000 recorded index crimes from January to November 2023,
01:31it has dropped to over 30,000 this year during the same months.
01:35Cyber crime cases in the country also dropped by 5.75 percent in the third quarter of the
01:41year compared to the first six months.
01:43PNP Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Gene Fajardo stated that only over 3,400 cyber
01:49crimes were recorded in the country from July to September this year.
01:54This is lower than the nearly 3,800 recorded in the second quarter and much more higher
02:00than the first quarter, which reached over 4,000 cases.
02:04The PNP's anti-criminality efforts will continue especially now as the holiday season is approaching.
02:12Earlier in the command conference of our Chief PNP, he clearly gave guidance to our field commanders.
02:20SWS conducted their survey in Balans, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao with around 1,500 respondents.
02:29The direction of the statements of our Chief PNP is to continue the police interventions
02:36that we are conducting to maintain the decrease of statistics.
02:41Ryan Liziguez, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines, Kamp Krame.
