00:00Good morning, and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Plenty of sunshine
00:05around for many on this Saturday, but there will also be some thunderstorms in the mix
00:09as well. Looking at the bigger picture, the northern half of the UK, under the influence
00:13of a ridge of high pressure still, easily flows, so it's still going to be quite cloudy
00:17here down the east coast. But low pressure beginning to take dominance from the south,
00:21giving quite an unsettled picture across the southern half of the UK across the end of
00:25the weekend. Back to today though, we do have a thunderstorm
00:28warning in force, quite a large area covering parts of Wales, south west England and central
00:33southern England as well. It's a large area, but not everywhere we'll see a thunderstorm.
00:37It's the hit and miss nature of thunderstorms. One place could see torrential downpours,
00:42hail, gusty winds and just down the road, it could be a fine and sunny day. But this
00:47is the main area. This is where the risk of the thunderstorms developing will be.
00:52Back to this morning, so you can see on the graphics there already a scattering of those
00:55thundery showers around first thing. Further north though, still very much this east west
00:59split. We've got flow coming in off the North Sea, so we've got cloud, rain and drizzle
01:04and quite a breeze as well, particularly for parts of eastern Scotland. Brighter though
01:08across western Scotland through the day. Plenty of sunshine here and temperatures could get
01:13up to 20 degrees, noticeably different from the east coast where we do see that breeze.
01:18It's going to be at best into the mid teens. Further south though as well, you can see
01:22where we have the scattering of showers in between. There's plenty of sunshine around
01:26and where you do see that sunshine possibly up even to 25 degrees for parts of Kent and
01:31it will be feeling quite pleasant and in that sunshine. So very much it depends whether
01:36or not you get hit by one of those showers on Saturday. Lots of fine weather around in
01:40between those. Heading through the evening, those showers will continue and again could
01:46cause some travel impacts as we head through the evening and then we start to get a second
01:50system arriving from the south as we head in towards the early hours of Sunday. There
01:55is a warning in force for this area of rain as well and this one's slightly different
01:58from the one on Saturday. This is a rain warning as opposed to a thunderstorm warning and we'll
02:04be seeing more widespread cloud and more places will see rainfall as well. So we're looking
02:09for impacts from the rain falling onto the ground and we could see some spray and perhaps
02:13some difficult travelling conditions through Sunday as well. It will be fairly mild though
02:19to start the day on Sunday. We're going to see temperatures into the mid-teens for much
02:24of the UK and even in the far southeast. It's quite muggy and quite humid, perhaps even
02:28starting the day at 17 degrees. Further north though, parts of Western Scotland holding
02:33on to their crisp and bright mornings as well. So sunshine for Western Scotland but it will
02:40be in limited supply as we head through Sunday for the southern half of the UK. Plenty of
02:45cloud swirling around and we will start to see these winds picking up particularly across
02:49Western parts and we'll see heavy rain. Less in the way of thunderstorms but by the afternoon
02:53there could still be an isolated thunderstorm or two on Sunday as well. But further north
02:59across Western parts for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland there will be plenty
03:02of sunshine around mid or high teens and probably seeing the best of the weather and even parts
03:07of Eastern Scotland starting to see a little bit less in the way of cloud and could see
03:10a brighter day here too. There will still be some areas affected by that cloud coming
03:15in off the North Sea and here temperatures are best in 15 degrees or in the mid-teens
03:20and again not feeling too pleasant. Temperatures further south, mid or high teens or perhaps
03:25early 20s but the difference will be the extra cloud, more frequent rain so it's probably
03:30not going to be feeling as pleasant on Sunday and we'll be sort of noticing that wind starting
03:35to pick up as well. So fairly unsettled as we head through Sunday. That rain is going
03:40to continue right the way through the evening around the southern half of the UK. But if
