Images have been released of a planned tram route through the centre of Cardiff. The Cardiff crossrail would link parts of the centre of Cardiff down to the bay and across to Newport road. The council say they hope it will be open by 2029 as part of the south Wales metro.

00:00The South Wales Metro is supposed to totally revolutionise transport around Cardiff and
00:06the greater South Wales area, and that includes everything from improved buses to trains and
00:12the tram system.
00:15The latest images of the tram route have been released and show what it could look like
00:18when it's finished sometime around 2029 according to the council.
00:24Cardiff Council and Transport for Wales are working together on the project which will
00:28connect the north-west of the city to parts of the centre of Cardiff, to the Bay area
00:32along and across to Newport Road via the docks.
00:35It's aimed at easing some transport links and bringing more people to Cardiff Bay.
00:41Councillor Dan Dayath says that subject to funding, it will join up to the proposed Cardiff
00:45Parkway station in the east of the city, with the first phase connecting the city centre
00:50to the Bay.
00:51It will be called the Cardiff Crossrail, with funding already secured for the first phase
00:56of the plans.
