Cardiff City have endured another inconsistent calendar year. The Bluebirds haven’t quite been able to break the boundaries in the second division and achieve promotion. We looked back over the year on some standout moments, as they look to improve in 2025.

00:00Well, Charles, looking at Cardiff City, a team who were in the Premier League briefly
00:08a few years ago in 2018-19 under Neil Warnock, and then have gone back down to the Championship
00:14and never really hit the heights they did in terms of getting back up there, but they
00:17are a solid Championship team, there's no denying it. And 2024 has sort of epitomised
00:23that nature in terms of being decent for the Championship, but not quite having the quality
00:29I think perhaps to get towards challenging for promotion, whether that be in playoffs
00:34or automatics. And so, what can be done for Cardiff as well just going forward, but also
00:41perhaps more impressively, what has been, or what have been their most standout games
00:46and moments of 2024 so far, and why? Because of course, as I say, steady Championship teams,
00:51so they've had, let's be honest, an up and down time, but they have had some standout
00:55moments. And so, what have they been and where can they then go in the future?
01:00Yeah, obviously, it's tough to look back, you know, they've been to the Premier League
01:05twice in the last 10 or so years, and they've come down straight away both times, obviously.
01:11Then reached the playoffs in 19-20, you know, 2019-20, and just missed out there. Then they
01:18finished eighth, and then for three seasons in a row, they pretty much narrowly missed
01:24relegation to League One, which was quite interesting. And, you know, obviously finished
01:2712th last season, so mid-table, which is a bit more where they want to be. And obviously,
01:32you know, going forward, they've sort of, you know, made clear their financial problems,
01:36so it's certainly somewhere they want to be. As for 2024, there hasn't been many amazing
01:42moments. It has to be said that, obviously, the managerial situation is in turmoil, really.
01:48They got rid of Turkish manager Errol Bullut, and they are still vacant. They're still looking
01:54for names. Steve Cooper came out and said he won't be taking the step down to Championship,
01:59even though, you know, he is Welsh and he does have some, what, connection with Cardiff City.
02:05So, yeah, just looking at the year as a whole, I mean, it's not been amazing, and they are
02:10still struggling in the Championship right now, near the back end of last season in 2024,
02:16obviously. So, maybe Ipswich and Southampton were already sort of set up, but Southampton,
02:22obviously, coming up through the play-off. So, it was a massive win, both in the last
02:26minutes as well. Both, obviously, premierly promoted teams. So, yeah, an interesting one
02:31there to get those wins, and I think Cardiff City fans were excited at that point, and they
02:37obviously went on a winning streak at the beginning of the year in February to early March. Four wins
02:42on the bounce. Now, that put them in a brilliant position with Errol Bullut. Obviously, it didn't
02:46end the way they would have liked it to. But, yeah, I think it's been an up-and-down year,
02:51and they just need to see out the rest of 2025, and, you know, this season,
02:55and hopefully remain a Championship club.
