00:00Many people were convinced that the streaming career of Guy Beahm, known to his fans as
00:04Doug the Disrespect, was over.
00:07But he's back, and he's got a story that not everyone is buying.
00:10Doug the Disrespect has mostly been offline since a former Twitch employee alleged that
00:15the streamer was banned from the platform for exchanging inappropriate messages with
00:19a minor.
00:20The duck later confirmed elements of the story, writing in a now-deleted post on X, formerly
00:25Twitter, where their Twitch Whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017.
00:29The answer is yes.
00:30These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction
00:35of being inappropriate, but nothing more.
00:38Since then, fans have only heard from Beahm on social media a few times, when he deleted
00:42his confessional post, then again when he revealed his plan to continue streaming.
00:46Doug the Disrespect did indeed reappear on YouTube on September 6th, 2024, addressing
00:51the controversy in a way that almost no one expected.
00:54Beahm contended that nothing inappropriate happened in his Twitch whispers, and he wasn't
00:59speaking with a minor, after all.
01:01His entire confession post, he claimed, was set up to get unwitting journalists and his
01:05haters to believe a false story, calling the articles about it defaming.
01:09"...that never happened.
01:12I even used the word inappropriate, purposely."
01:17Nearly three million people have watched Doug the Disrespect's five-hour return stream,
01:21and since he went live, countless people have shared their thoughts on his new story.
01:25YouTuber D'Angelo Wallace opened up a lengthy video on the controversy by saying he could
01:30sum up his entire reaction in a single word, "...stupid."
01:34He went on to explain,
01:35"...I have never seen somebody defend themselves against an action by saying that they admitted
01:40to it to trick everybody into believing they did it."
01:43On X, XQC reacted to the situation by quoting journalist Rod Breslau, who said he stood
01:49by his reporting on the scandal in Rolling Stone.
01:51Meanwhile, AmaranthClown, on having spotted some of Doug the Disrespect's prepared remarks,
01:56reflected in his trademark visor.
01:58Asmongold noted that there were many things about the story that still didn't add up for
02:02him, and hoped that more clarity would be brought to the controversy.
02:05Hasan Piker remained incredulous throughout his own reaction stream, noting that it was
02:10weird that Doug the Disrespect remained in character for the entirety of his explanation.
02:15"...How are you doing a character in the midst of being, like, in the midst of, like, f-----
02:20allegations?"
02:21That said, a scroll through the comments on Doug the Disrespect's stream reveals that
02:25plenty of fans still support him.
02:28Some fans are calling on him to sue Twitch, apparently forgetting that he and Twitch seemingly
02:32settled a lawsuit over the ban years ago.
02:35Others have urged Doug the Disrespect to sue news outlets for defamation.
02:39Some streamers have found themselves the target of Beam's fans, including Nick Merx, a longtime
02:43friend of the Doc who severed ties with the streamer in the wake of the controversy.
02:48Nick Merx pushed back against people calling him a bad friend, pointing out Doug the Disrespect's
02:52deleted admission.
02:53He noted that Beam even reached out to him to personally apologize after the scandal
02:58broke, writing on X,
02:59"...I've said multiple times he sent a text to the boys and I, apologizing for us being
03:03dragged into it."
03:04A few streamers are also defending Beam.
03:06For instance, Keemstar posted shortly after the Doc's big return stream,
03:10Doc the Disrespect truly has defended himself very well here.
03:14Twitch has some explaining to do.
03:15Keemstar also posted a poll asking fans if they thought Doc the Disrespect did what he
03:20was accused of.
03:21The majority of the people who voted, 57 percent, said they thought he was guilty.
03:26Beam explained on his stream that he'll be applying to have his YouTube channel re-monetized
03:29later this month, and the course of his career likely depends on how that turns out.
