00:00The internet's globetrotting crown prince of chaos has officially f----- around, and
00:05with his latest arrest, he has certainly found out.
00:07Hopefully we can move past this and have a better future."
00:11No one is surprised when streamers do horrifically dangerous things for attention, but it's always
00:15shocking to see someone get themselves into serious legal trouble just for the views.
00:19IRL streamer Johnny Somaly has been arrested for his hijinks again, and this time he could
00:24be facing at least a decade in prison in South Korea.
00:27This isn't the first time that Somaly has faced serious legal trouble.
00:30For those out of the loop, he's a kick-and-rumble streamer who has essentially built his brand
00:34on being a public nuisance.
00:36In 2023, he was arrested multiple times in Japan for breaking into a construction site
00:41and loudly playing music and yelling at people in a restaurant.
00:44Those arrests led to Somaly being deported, but he could be facing much more serious consequences
00:48for his latest content spree.
00:50Somaly was initially arrested in South Korea for similar reasons to his arrest in Japan.
00:54He caused a commotion in a convenience store after employees denied him alcohol and allegedly
00:58responded violently when the employees asked him to leave.
01:01Since then, authorities have barred Somaly from leaving the country and launched an investigation
01:05into his potential drug use, which South Korea takes extremely seriously.
01:10If Somaly gets charged with drug abuse, the penalty could be up to 10 years in prison,
01:14and that's not the only charge he's possibly facing.
01:16The legal issues kicked off pretty much from the moment Johnny Somaly's trip to South Korea
01:20began.
01:21Somaly offended people when he kissed and twerked on the Statue of Peace, a national
01:24monument meant to recognize women who were forced into sex slavery during the Japanese
01:28occupation of South Korea during World War II.
01:31Locals immediately called for him to be forced out of the country, and some members of South
01:35Korea's parliament even expressed concerns about his actions, saying they intended to
01:39keep an eye on his future activities.
01:41Some took their outrage one step further.
01:42You come catch me, I'm outside tomorrow.
01:45Come find me."
01:47In a harrowing livestream moment, a South Korean streamer decided to attack Johnny Somaly
01:51in the street.
01:52Police quickly intervened, but there are other people who are hoping for a chance to fight
01:55Johnny again.
01:56One Korean YouTuber reportedly put a $770 bounty on Somaly, asking viewers to provide
02:02him with the streamer's whereabouts.
02:03Ironically, his arrest might be protecting him from getting beat up or stalked by other
02:08streamers.
02:09But combining convictions on assault and drug charges could mean up to 12 years in jail
02:12or nearly $80,000 in fines.
02:14So, to all the people of South Korea, I just want to apologize for what I've done, and
02:19I really did not mean to hurt your guys' pride this much."
02:22Johnny Somaly claims to feel serious regret about this entire situation.
02:26The streamer went so far as to make a public apology for his actions, saying,
02:29"...I made a mistake, and I think when you make a mistake in life, you need to own up
02:32to it.
02:33So, I apologize."
02:34He added,
02:35"...I will no longer talk about your statue or touch it ever again."
02:39Some onlookers have expressed skepticism about that apology, especially since Johnny went
02:43on to try and spin his stunt as a positive, explaining that many people learned about
02:47the Statue of Peace because of what he did.
02:49Whether or not the general public accepts his apology, his legal trouble is only just
02:53beginning.
02:54Johnny Somaly is unable to leave South Korea while police continue investigating the allegations
02:58against him, even if Somaly can dodge the charges related to the convenience store confrontation
03:03and the alleged drug possession.
03:05A different criminal case waits in the wings.
03:07As another bit of outrage bait for his streams, Somaly used AI to deepfake a video of himself
03:11kissing Korean IRL streamer Bong Bong, resulting in her pressing charges.
03:16Though Bong Bong later decided to drop the charges, the South Korean government is legally
03:20allowed to pursue the case anyway.
03:21In that instance, Johnny Somaly could be facing up to an additional seven years in prison.
