00:00While Twitch and YouTube allow people to broadcast their every thought and feeling, some streamers
00:05want to maintain an air of privacy.
00:08You probably haven't seen most of these streamers' faces, and here's why.
00:12Corpse Husband became known for his gravelly voice and mischievous Among Us playstyle,
00:16but fans have latched onto his mysterious persona, aching to learn more about him.
00:21In the past, Corpse Husband shared that he struggles with poor self-esteem.
00:25In an Instagram Q&A in reference to a potential face reveal, he stated,
00:29Realistically, it'll happen inevitably against my will, but a lot of people think it's like
00:34a business thing or a gimmick.
00:35I just deeply f---- hate my face, and people's expectations at this point are ridiculous
00:42and unachievable."
00:44After gaining popularity for his voice and his music, Corpse fears that fans might feel
00:48disappointed with his physical appearance.
00:50Additionally, he struggles with anxiety, sometimes finding it hard to leave his home.
00:55Corpse Husband credits his fans with saving his life.
00:59Internet fame helped him get out of medical debt and provide his mother with a home.
01:03No one knows if Corpse Husband will choose to show his face in the future, but chances
01:07are he won't if he can help it.
01:09The mystery seems to be working for him, though.
01:11He has over 7 million subscribers on YouTube alone.
01:14Wadu Heck got famous by stream-sniping Shroud, one of the most popular streamers around.
01:20From there, the guy kept popping up on Shroud's streams and gained a following in his own
01:24right.
01:25Wadu and Shroud became rivals in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and seem friendly despite some
01:29fans thinking otherwise.
01:31Wadu only uses voice chat when streaming, and even then only says his name repeatedly.
01:36He's also released several cover versions of famous songs, although each one was rewritten
01:40to include just the words, "'Wadu Heck."
01:43Fans have speculated about Wadu's identity, but no one has figured it out just yet.
01:48After disappearing from streaming for a brief time, Wadu returned to the internet to answer
01:52fan questions and give some indication about what's in store for him.
01:56In a recent AMA on his Instagram account, Wadu answered the hard-hitting questions from
02:00fans.
02:01Wadu admitted that he'll show his face one day, though he didn't say when.
02:05He also commented that he'd retired his habit of only saying his name during streams, commenting
02:10that, after three years, it was getting kind of old.
02:13"...you just walk in unannounced.
02:15What, you think that's funny?
02:16What, you think this is some kind of crack house you can just stumble into and make yourself
02:21at home?"
02:22Swaggersouls is one of the more famous streamers who refuses to show his face, and has been
02:26open about his reasoning behind that decision.
02:29His disguise is a bit different from many others, though.
02:32Swaggersouls covers his face with medieval-styled gear, looking a bit like a character from
02:36Dark Souls, which he has played on stream.
02:38When introducing himself on the Misfits podcast, which he co-hosts, Swaggersouls explained
02:43that he always wanted to do IRL content, but he didn't want to show his face to the world.
02:48He compromised by donning an old helmet he found in his closet, and things continued
02:52from there.
02:53Swaggersouls said that he likes his privacy and prefers to meet people without having
02:57to worry about how people will react to him.
02:59Though he used to just wear a helmet on stream, he now wears a chainmail headpiece and a black
03:03mask to conceal everything but his eyes.
03:06"...a helmet wearer."
03:07"...helmet wearer."
03:08"...as well as a mask wearer."
03:10"...oh my god, we got, we have an eyeball reveal today!"
03:14In July 2020, Swaggersouls tweeted a message to his fans, saying, quote,
03:19"...I've worn a mask for five years.
03:21You can wear one for a couple of months."
03:22Though Swaggersouls' reasoning for wearing a mask is relatively simple, he has used his
03:27platform to inform others and encourage safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
03:32Chap rarely, if ever, streams with a facecam, though fans have seen his face on some occasions.
03:37Chap played Fortnite professionally as part of the super-rich Team Liquid, and even went
03:42by LiquidChap for a time.
03:43However, Chap left the team in 2020, then tweeted almost a year later, saying that he's
03:48a free agent yet again.
03:49Though fans seem skeptical of his availability, he hasn't responded to comments just yet.
03:55Chap rose to fame streaming Fortnite, then signing a couple of high-profile esports deals,
04:00but recently, he's been out of the limelight.
04:02Though Chap hasn't directly stated why he chooses to stream without facecams and hide
04:06his face, fans have their own speculations.
04:09Some viewers theorize that Chap likes his privacy, but that he's, quote, not even ugly,
04:14and therefore shouldn't feel bad about showing himself.
04:17Another fan went further, telling others to hunt down Chap's childhood photos from an
04:21old social media account.
04:23It's likely that Chap values privacy and prefers to not see his face plastered all over the
04:28internet.
04:29However, his silence hasn't given fans a solid answer.
04:32One man he streams as a perky, expressive Shiba Inu, wearing a gaming headset.
04:37Unfortunately, technology doesn't always work like one expects it to, and Manny experienced
04:42that firsthand when his rig failed live on stream.
04:45The Scottish streamer was having a normal session, playing a game, when his camera rig
04:49failed and revealed his face.
04:51Manny didn't realize at first, happily bopping along to music.
04:54When he realized his camera had failed, he quickly knocked it over and ended the stream.
05:02It seems that Manny continued streaming after the incident without too much trouble, but
05:06some fans wondered if it wasn't all a ploy to get more viewers.
05:10One fan speculated that it was the perfect time for a face reveal to happen, since Manny's
05:14ratings were falling.
05:16Another fan called the Shiba Inu avatar a gimmick that was fun, but unoriginal.
05:20Even though he accidentally showed his face after keeping it a secret for so long, the
05:24one Manny continues to stream on Twitch using his Shiba Inu avatar, continuing on as if
05:29nothing happened.
05:31Dream is one of the most popular Minecraft streamers.
05:33He's also one of the most famous streamers to refuse to show his face.
05:37Like many streamers, Dream likes privacy, and isn't ready to sacrifice a somewhat normal
05:41life in order to reap whatever benefits would come from showing his face.
05:45During a stream, Dream called privacy a luxury and said that time will tell if he ever shows
05:50his face.
05:51Right now, there's no plan to.
05:53I like my privacy and stuff, too, so I think at this point I have the luxury of living
05:58a private life, so, but, I don't know."
06:01Of course, that doesn't mean that Dream hasn't trolled his fans with a face reveal.
06:05At the end of 2020, Dream teased a face reveal as a promotion for Mr. Beast's New Year's
06:10retrospective.
06:11Unfortunately, behind the cardboard cutout of his logo, Dream was just wearing a different,
06:16more elaborate mask.
06:18Dream seems like a complicated person, with lots of issues going on outside the streaming
06:22world.
06:23After going through an intense breakup, Dream was doxxed.
06:26At an all-time low, Dream found himself with few options but to come clean and discuss
06:30his personal struggles with fans, who worried for his safety.
06:34With an ongoing struggle involving mental health, loved ones, and personal safety behind
06:38the scenes, it makes sense that Dream would want to keep some things a secret.
06:43Decoders became popular by streaming Fortnite, but he's also gained a following from high-profile
06:48beefs with other streamers, like Ninja.
06:50"...Just stay in your lane, Ninja, you know what I'm saying?
06:53Like, if I got an opinion, I got an opinion.
06:55Shut your mouth."
06:56Dream blocked Ninja after a feud about Fortnite, causing an uproar in the fan community.
07:01Decoders kept his face a secret for years before finally revealing himself candidly
07:05during a stream.
07:07Decoders' reasoning for hiding his face has nothing to do with self-confidence or privacy.
07:11Instead, he wants to immerse players in the games he streams, and he doesn't want his
07:15face to get in the way of that.
07:17By not showing his face, Decoders is able to highlight the games and keep viewers' focus
07:22where he wants it.
07:23During his face reveal, Decoders also admitted that sometimes he just wants to chat with
07:27fans in a more personal way.
07:29As a solution, Decoders dedicated a portion of some streams to just chatting and showing
07:34his face, sharing a bit of his personality with fans.
07:37Now, Decoders' face is known by most in the streaming community, but old-school fans remember
07:42what it was like to not know what their favorite streamer looked like.
07:46Disguised Toast isn't so disguised anymore, but he avoided showing his face online for
07:50ages.
07:51Toast initially began his streaming career as a Hearthstone player, and though he uploaded
07:56several videos, he never spoke on camera.
07:58Toast believed his logo, a piece of toast with a mustache and hat, was more familiar
08:03to most people than his own face, which he'd kept secret.
08:06So when given the opportunity to meet a Hearthstone legend, Crypt, he donned a Toast mask and
08:11took a picture.
08:12He also wore the mask on a broadcast of Hearthstone.
08:14From then on, Toast decided he wouldn't show his face online.
08:18Toast explained that he didn't hide his face because he was secretly a celebrity or ugly.
08:22Instead, the mask just became a joke to him and his fans, and he wanted to continue doing
08:26what gained him viewers in the first place.
08:29Then Toast accidentally revealed his face live on stream.
08:32He claimed that he pulled his camera's wire in a way that pulled the camera down to show
08:35his face, and that he didn't even realize what happened until much later.
08:39"...what had happened was, during one of my streams, I tugged on the webcam cord by mistake
08:45and pointed it at my face when I wasn't wearing the Toast mask."
08:48Toast said that the people who saw that stream agreed to be cool about it, but eventually,
08:52someone with enough of a following managed to share his face and reveal his identity.
08:57"...what do girls really like?
09:00Dang.
09:01Even I'm still trying to find out."
09:04Mori Kalliopi is a VTuber and a musician who charmed fans with her pink hair, cool outfits,
09:10and catchy tunes.
09:11But there's a real person working behind the scenes to bring Mori to life.
09:15Some fans on Reddit have narrowed down Mori's real identity, comparing her to the musician
09:20Demon Dice.
09:21Despite the popularity of this theory, it's clear that the Hololive fanbase does not condone
09:26discussing the real identities of VTuber stars.
09:29One commenter said that asking Mori about the connection during a stream was impolite.
09:33Mori's identity may be something of an open secret, but that doesn't mean that she wants
09:37people breaking the illusion she's created.
09:40In an interview on Trash Taste podcast, Mori talked about her experiences outside the VTube
09:45world.
09:46Mori explained that sometimes after streaming, she likes to go participate in underground
09:50rap events, just for fun.
09:52Even then, she said, some people ask her how her VTubing career is going, which annoys
09:56her.
09:57Mori also said that she feels content to live both in the underground rap world as her real
10:01world self and in the VTuber world as Mori Kalliopi.
10:05Straddling the two worlds doesn't upset her at all, and, she said, she likes participating
10:09in a variety of creative endeavors anyway.
10:12League of Legends streamer Gosu has almost two million subscribers and an adoring fanbase,
10:17but it took him years to decide to show his face.
10:20A 2017 interview with Gosu revealed his reason for not sharing his identity.
10:25It turns out that the legendary League of Legends player is incredibly shy.
10:28Gosu elaborated,
10:29"'I've always been really shy.
10:31Didn't want to talk in public.
10:33In the beginning, I definitely didn't want to reveal my voice to everyone.
10:36I just wanted to play the game.
10:38I just wanted to stream, and everyone loved that.
10:40But eventually it became my thing, and I was like, okay, well, I'm just gonna roll with
10:44it."
10:45Gosu continued to roll with it until he revealed his face, though he wasn't really happy to
10:49do so.
10:50Gosu mentioned that he thinks he looks like Shrek.
10:52Even though his friend hyped him up and commented on how attractive he was, Gosu insisted he
10:57resembled the green ogre of meme fame.
10:59Gosu still doesn't stream with a face cam, but viewers can now put a face with a name,
11:04since he's revealed what he looks like.
11:09Don't forget to like and subscribe!
