00:00Streaming is not always an easy job. While it may be fun,
00:04playing video games in front of a live audience can be quite demanding.
00:07Maybe that's why some gamers find themselves drifting off to dreamland mid-stream.
00:12Who would have thought sleeping could earn you quick and easy money? Turns out that sometimes
00:16it pays to sleep on the job. Esports caster Trooper posted a video on YouTube reporting
00:21on a streamer named Fonzie, who unknowingly found himself in a comical situation.
00:26Discovering the stream via Twitter, Trooper hopped over to find the snoozing gamer in a
00:30Rocket League menu, which the esports caster described as,
00:34"...the most marvelous, splendid thing I've ever seen."
00:39Other commenters were present to offer audio commentary during this thrilling nap.
00:43At one point, it looked as though Fonzie was about to wake up,
00:46but he simply shifted his head to the other side.
00:49Donations rolled in as eager viewers tried to wake him from his slumber.
00:52Participants in the audio commentary seemed to get a real kick out of watching this guy snooze.
00:57According to Trooper, his view count grew from around 40 to over 200.
01:02Much to everyone's dismay, however, the stream suddenly ended. Apparently,
01:06this sleepy streamer was banned, which led Trooper to wonder if sleeping on
01:10Twitch was a punishable offense at the time.
01:13For YouTuber and streamer Miss Grimoire, falling asleep live was inevitable. After
01:17finishing her game, she was so tired that the exhaustion came through in her voice.
01:21She even told her viewers how tired she was, but that didn't stop her,
01:25despite encouragement from her audience to get some rest.
01:28"...I think I need to go to sleep."
01:31For about an hour, she continued casually chatting with viewers about food,
01:35her sleepiness, her streaming setup, traveling, and more.
01:38Some Twitch users suggested she turn into a sleeping stream,
01:41and while that may not have been her intention, that is exactly what happened.
01:45Even though she told everyone she needed to sleep,
01:48she continued streaming out of pure stubbornness, as she explained.
01:51The allure of good conversation kept her around for another 40 minutes. Following multiple bouts
01:56of fake snoozing, she had her first, albeit brief, encounter with the Sandman. From there,
02:01she nodded off a few times, but then the blanket came out. Even then, she simply wouldn't give up
02:06until she passed out for nearly three minutes. At that point, she knew it was finally time to
02:11wrap it up.
02:12Let the following be a lesson to always listen to your body and never push yourself past your
02:17physical limits. Streamer PyroTrey was running on very little sleep, but his commitment to his
02:22viewers was such that he chose to power through and play some Call of Duty. Unfortunately,
02:27his internal clock took matters into its own hands. After some intense gunplay,
02:31he paused the game and fell asleep. His rest lasted about 30 minutes,
02:35after which his dad came knocking on the door. Following a few failed attempts to verbally wake
02:39his son, he approached the slumbering streamer and shook his chair several times. Finally,
02:44he stirred from his nap and was so exhausted he could barely speak. His dad then told him his
02:49gaming session was over and asked how long he was asleep. As PyroTrey ended his game,
02:54he struggled to keep his eyes open. His dad was pretty displeased with him,
02:58and the whole scene took place live with other gamers in a group call. For many,
03:01this might have been a humiliating experience that couldn't be forgotten fast enough.
03:05PyroTrey instead took it in stride, posting the video himself for all to enjoy.
03:11Is there any greater honor than becoming an emote on Twitch? One sleepy streamer
03:15received such a tribute after an incident during a 72-hour marathon.
03:19ResidentSleeper is a stock emote on Twitch that is often used to signify boredom or sleepiness.
03:24Like most emotes, this one has an origin story. Known on Twitch as OddlerPro,
03:29the man behind the emote hosted a 72-hour marathon playing Resident Evil games,
03:34hence the Resident of Resident Sleeper. The Sleeper portion of the name was earned at around
03:38the 66-hour mark. Staying awake even that long is impressive, but more impressive is how his
03:43stream blew up from a mere 900 viewers to 13,000 — all because he fell asleep. After waking up,
03:50he left the room as if the stream wasn't even happening. While he was gone, a baffled chat
03:54speculated as to his condition and whereabouts. According to OddlerPro, he didn't actually wake
03:59up, but instead was sleepwalking.
04:01"...I am now sleepwalking, legit sleepwalking, to my bed."
04:05Unfortunately, he spent the remainder of the marathon sleeping, but perhaps more importantly,
04:09he would later be immortalized on Twitch. At the time, he was very upset to fall short of his goal,
04:14but the ResidentSleeper emote made it all worthwhile.
04:18Few experiences in life are more exciting than sailing the high seas, especially through the
04:22eyes of a pirate. A lively bunch, pirates must be awake and alert as often as possible. Streamers
04:28living the vicarious pirate life, however, that's a different story. With the thrilling and
04:32adventurous music of Sea of Thieves piping through, Jodie, also known as Quarter Jade,
04:37suddenly and expectedly passed out. She appeared quite awake, but with a dramatic head roll,
04:42she faded away. One of her friends alerted her and she was back.
04:46"...Jodie, come, come."
04:47"...What?"
04:48That didn't last very long, however. Later on, with an in-game evening sky and an accordion
04:53squeezing out a gentle tune, Quarter Jade was lulled back to sleep. Her friend saw it coming,
04:58and preemptively called her name, but to no avail. Just before her head dropped forward,
05:02she woke again, clearly a bit out of it. She didn't even make it known why she was so drowsy,
05:07so it's up to the imagination to fill in the details. Perhaps the pirate life just wasn't for
05:11her. During a Fortnite stream, Monk Raw not only slept, but snored quite loudly.
05:23The footage in question had a facecam and featured a second camera dedicated to his
05:27mouse and keyboard, allowing viewers to watch the master in action, or lack thereof.
05:32As he sat in deep sleep, his hands appeared motionless, yet his character fired at the
05:36ceiling and even moved a bit. He shook his head and returned to a waking state,
05:41asking if it was still happening. He seemed quite surprised to be where he was,
05:44but managed to hop back in the action immediately. Watching the video,
05:48there's something a little unusual about the way he slept. The way he moved, his head remaining
05:52upright, the sound of the snoring — it's all a little suspicious. His eyes almost appeared
05:57slightly open. Was he really asleep, or was it all an act? Though it's highly unlikely someone
06:01would go through the trouble to fake sleep on stream, it appears to be a fairly lucrative
06:06enterprise. See the footage for yourself, and you decide.
06:10It's nice to know that when you're drifting off in the middle of your stream, you can count on
06:13your friends to laugh at your situation. While in the King of the Hill lobby for Z1 Battle Royale,
06:18KP5 gently drifted away to Sleepytown. A group of his friends were in the stream together and
06:23checked to see if he was still around. When he failed to respond, they wondered if he was sleeping.
06:28After a chat member told them to wake him up, they all had a chuckle. His fellow streamers
06:32tried to get his attention, with one warning him not to get, quote,
06:36banned on Twitch again. Even though they all laughed over his predicament,
06:39they proved to be true friends. In an effort to prevent him from suffering the wrath of the
06:43Bannhammer, one of his friends initiated a voice call. The ring was very loud, but it didn't seem
06:48to work. Another friend screamed and yelled his name. They all noticed that poor KP was drooling
06:53on himself and shared another laugh. Nothing seemed to be loud enough to wake him, so in an
06:57impressive demonstration of friendship, they all found his character and tried to get his attention
07:02without killing him. After landing several punches, they accidentally killed his character
07:07and mourned its death. In the end, he was disconnected from the game.
07:11I'm so tired. But I'm not really tired, you know? It's just a bruise to bathe my opponent. It's a
07:17false sense of security.
07:19Completing the 24-hour streaming marathon is a fairly common yet difficult goal for streamers.
07:24Falling asleep during a marathon stream is just as common. For streamer Scarra,
07:28all it took was a few seconds of shuteye to suffer a full beatdown.
07:31It all happened while playing League of Legends. At one point during his marathon,
07:35a chat member complimented his stamina, telling him he didn't look tired at all.
07:39He called it his secret power, but admitted he was exhausted. Soon enough,
07:43this power would fail him. At the first sign of sleepiness,
07:46Scarra quickly came to, and covered it up by telling his viewers he thought of the future,
07:51and that, well…
07:52Yeah, the future's looking great.
07:53It's true he saw the future because he predicted dying in the game as a result of closing his eyes.
07:58Admitting that his exhaustion was affecting his performance, he soon passed out,
08:02leaving his poor character defenseless. Rival players took advantage and they
08:06fired at him from all directions. He quickly woke up asking what happened,
08:09but by then it was too late. Regardless, he made it to the end of the marathon,
08:13and that's what mattered.
08:14I need to get sleep. I need a lot of sleep.
08:19You would never expect someone who appears as high-energy as Ayla Jay
08:22to fall asleep while streaming, but even she gets tired sometimes. In a Twitch clip
08:27titled Sleepers for the Week, she was clearly determined to soldier through her exhaustion.
08:31Playing Tom Clancy's The Division, she struggled but kept her eyes open while
08:35resting her head on the microphone. Not only had she been live on Twitch for hours,
08:39but she drank throughout the stream. Even so, she refused to grab herself a cup of coffee.
08:44Soon after, her eyelids drifted downward. She was fast asleep atop her mic as her
08:48character ran against a wall. One of her friends in the call discussed the drawbacks of day drinking
08:53while she was knocked out. They tried waking her and encouraged her to shut off her stream
08:57to avoid the possibility of getting banned, but she remained asleep.
09:01Fortunately, they found the perfect way to stir her from her slumber.
09:04With the instantly recognizable sounds of Rick Astley coming through,
09:07she woke with a sour look on her face. She did not seem too pleased that she was
09:11Rick-rolled into a waking state.
09:13I'm Harry never gonna give you up. Come on, I have to take this off. It's too loud.
09:18When word got out that a streamer named Source Boss failed to stay awake for a 24-hour live stream,
09:23fellow streamer Antti Tinkerbell had a duty to perform. She took it upon herself to hop
09:27over to his stream and check in, offering the good people of her community live commentary.
09:32The streamer in question fell for Sleep's alluring call in Rocket League,
09:35and according to Antti Tinkerbell, he gained a ton of followers as a result.
09:40Look at this guy. This guy is snoozing. He's getting a s—load of followers for being asleep.
09:45She continued her reporting duties, explaining that there were efforts to shut her stream down
09:49to prevent the channel from receiving a ban. Antti Tinkerbell commented that she had done
09:5424-hour streams before and never passed out like this fellow. She listened in on a call
09:58where his friends were hard at work cracking the code to end his stream. From there,
10:02she took a step back to observe as the situation unfolded.
10:05"'Cause he failed his 24-hour stream again. I'm sorry for him failing. Again."
10:11A friend in the call alluded to this being one of multiple failed attempts
10:14at completing a 24-hour marathon, then thanked everyone and apologized on Source Boss' behalf.
10:20After jokingly suggesting he'd send an ambulance,
10:23the rest of his friends humorously mulled over the idea.
10:26In the end, Antti Tinkerbell popped on once more to sign off.
10:29"'I'm just, I'm gonna let this guy go to sleep, because clearly he is con-tiddly-onked out.'"
