00:00Welcome to the chapter Division.
00:10This slide presents the overview of the chapter.
00:16Learning Objectives By the end of this chapter you will be able
00:21to Explain what is division
00:26Illustrate how to divide by using units and tens
00:31Discuss the relationship between multiplication and division
00:38Let us consider a scenario about division.
00:42A girl decided to distribute chocolates on her birthday in her class.
00:48So she has planned to give three chocolates to each of her classmates.
00:53But she doesn't know how many chocolates are required.
00:59So she asked her friend to calculate how many are required.
01:04She replies within no time.
01:07Can you guess how she might have answered?
01:11Let us answer such type of questions in this chapter.
01:16Here we see an interesting game on division.
01:20Good morning children Good morning sir
01:24Shall we play a game Yes sir
01:29Ok children, each one take 12 pencils with you.
01:34Now you have to keep them in pairs equally by the number by which I call.
01:41If you fail to do so, then you will be out of the game.
01:47Let's start the game.
01:48Be ready with the pencils.
01:52Yes sir
01:54Arrange the pencils in two pairs where each pair consists of an equal number of pencils.
02:02Then children were able to form only two groups of six pencils in each pair.
02:08Let us observe the pencils arranged by the children.
02:13Here 12 pencils are formed into two groups where each group consists of 6 pencils each.
02:22So when 12 is divided by 2, we get 6 pencils in each pair.
02:28This can be expressed in the form of division as shown on the screen.
02:33Ok children, now arrange the pencils in four pairs where each pair consists of an equal
02:40number of pencils.
02:43Here the children were able to arrange the 12 pencils into four groups where each group
02:49has 3 pencils.
02:51So when 12 is divided by 4, we get 3 in each pair.
02:57It can be expressed as shown on the screen.
03:00Sir, this game is really nice.
03:04By this game we can easily understand the division of numbers.
03:11Yes children, it is easy to understand the division of numbers.
03:15Ok children, bye.
03:18Bye sir.
03:22Exercise 1 Let us see some exercise problems.
03:41Let us do a simple activity to find ice cream in a group.
03:52Drag and drop the appropriate answers by using ice creams.
04:11Take up a simple activity to find flowers in a group.
04:24Drag and drop and the appropriate answers by using flowers.
04:41Let us see an example problem.
05:01Let us do a simple activity on division.
05:06Drag and drop the appropriate answers of these divisions.
05:11One example is shown for your reference.
05:31Let us see an example problem.
05:59Dear children, now we will study how to subtract to divide equally.
06:06Let us take an example for better understanding.
06:10Suppose we have to distribute 12 books into equal groups of 4, we will continue to subtract
06:174 books till all the books are distributed.
06:21Let us see how the subtraction goes.
06:24First, we will distribute 4 books, we will be left with 8 books.
06:30Second time, we distribute again 4 books and now we are left with 4 books.
06:38For the third time, we distribute the remaining books and this time we are left with 0 books.
06:46This can also be written as shown on the screen.
06:50Here 12 is dividend, 4 is divisor, 3 is quotient and 0 is the remainder.
07:00Let us see a few exercises problems.
07:29Here we are going to use 1s and 10s to divide a number.
07:34Suppose when we have to share the 48 pencils among 4 members, we can do the division as
07:41shown on the screen.
07:44The number 48 can be divided in the form of 1s and 10s.
07:50Here we get 4 10s and 8 1s, such that when we divide 4 10s with 4, we get 1 10 and when
08:00we divide 8 1s with 4, we get 2 1s.
08:05By adding the obtained numbers in the division of 1s and 10s, we can get the share of each
08:12person.
08:14Hence each person will get 12 pencils.
08:19This division can also be done as shown on the screen.
08:26Let us see the relation between division and multiplication.
08:31Ram, can you do multiplication and division by seeing this example?
08:36Yes sir, 3 groups of 4 make 12 or 4 groups of 3 make 12 in multiplication.
08:46In division, 12 divided by 3 is 4 or 12 divided by 4 is 3.
08:54From this, we can say that multiplication and division are related.
08:59Every multiplication can be written in the form of division and every division can be
09:04written in the form of a multiplication.
09:11Let us see an example problem.
09:19Let us do a simple activity on multiplication and division.
09:24Match the options of group A with respect to the options in group B.
10:41Try to solve the problems in the practice zone on your own.
10:46Click solution tab to verify your answer.
10:57Summary Let us recap the highlights of this chapter.
11:03We have learnt how to calculate the division by repeated subtraction and also in the units
11:09of tens and ones.
11:13Multiplication and division are related to each other where every multiplication can
11:18be written in the form of division and every division can be written in the form of a multiplication.
11:28Follow up work This should be solved in the subtract to divide
11:33method.
11:3416 divided by 4 is equal to 4.
11:38In a class there are 28 children.
11:41A cricket team can be made with 11 members.
11:44How many cricket teams can be made?
11:4748 balloons divided among 4 people are 12.
11:52Write the statement through the relation between division and multiplication.
11:59Test your understanding of the chapter by taking the mock unit test.
12:10You have successfully completed the chapter division.
