00:03Planners have given the go-ahead to a controversial new care home in Chesterfield,
00:07despite flood concerns and questions over the level of contribution from developers
00:12towards the restoration of the nearby Walton Works site.
00:15Chesterfield Borough Council's Planning Committee approved the development of a 72 care home
00:20for elderly and poorly people with car parking and landscaping near Factory Street
00:24off Chatsworth Road for applicant Torsh and Care Ltd.
00:27The committee voted in favour of the application at a meeting yesterday,
00:31despite hearing how the development would be near a flood-prone area of the town.
00:35Councillors also heard that the applicant was donating only £306,000
00:40towards the much-needed re-bump of the nearby Walton Works area,
00:44and that Derbyshire County Council argues a new care home is not needed in the town at all.
00:49Planning Officer Helen Frith told the committee,
00:52There is clearly this ongoing issue in that we do not get everything that we want,
00:56but we do get some development and we have to consider this proposal on its merits.
