00:00My name's Paul Henshaw and welcome to Maclepath Illuminations and I'm the chairman of the
00:05Boat Builders Association who help and organise the building of these boats.
00:09Q. So you know how long it's been going on?
00:12I know a little bit about the history. The history has been going on, it's been 126 years
00:17this year and next year is my 50th year of building.
00:21Q. And so you've got one yourself?
00:23Yes, I've got one myself, yes. It's Squid Games but I don't think I'm in for the prize
00:29this year. Well I'm stood next to one of the models, this has been built by some of
00:33our new boat builders, Flory and Wade and Ash and it's quite a nice model.
00:40We've got 10 members building this year, the same amount but we've got two new ones, well
00:46I call them new, who did models last year. We've got Paul Lill and Brendan and we've
00:53got Flory, Wade and Ash and they built last year as well. So we haven't got any new members
00:59this year but that's very good for us.
01:02Q. Still new?
01:03Still new.
01:04I'm David Harrison, I'm secretary of the Maclepath Illuminations boat builders. I've been building
01:12and entering now for 27, 28 years.
01:17Q. And this is?
01:19So this is my entry this year, it's called Let's All Have a Cuppa, it's based on a fairground
01:25teacup and saucer round.
01:275, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0! And there you are, you did it! You've lit up the 2024 Parade of Illuminated
01:42and Decorated Boats.
01:44It's just as popular today as when it was first introduced in theme parks and funfairs in 1995.
