00:00All right, we're going to take a look at what's going on out into parts of the Atlantic right now, and we're still tracking some tropical waves that really have been more bark than bite over the past few weeks.
00:12We've been avoiding any named storms since Ernesto met his demise over the North Atlantic, but right now we're kind of in transition here.
00:19You can see there are tropical waves that have moved west over areas around Hispaniola and other areas to the west, but they've been pretty moisture-starved.
00:27The new ones coming in, the current series of tropical waves, are moving into an environment that is a little more humid, and the dry weather of late is giving way to a little bit more of an abundant moisture feed through this area here.
00:42So we're looking at the opportunity for the one tropical wave that's still out over the open Atlantic to move west.
00:47And as it moves into an area approaching the Lesser Antilles and parts of the southern leewards and the northern windward islands here, we're looking at development likely to occur, or at least a medium chance of development to occur in the early part of next week.
01:00So we've got to keep an eye out for that.
01:02Right now we're also watching some activity into the Pacific, and we can take a look at what's going on here near and east of Hawaii.
01:10There is a weak disturbance, well, a tropical depression that's been moving through this area here, and the shower and thunderstorm activity tied to this has been a little more limited.
01:20But you can see there is some rain, relatively heavy for some, and that's going to be approaching.
01:24This is tropical depression Gilma that will send some rain into Hawaii.
01:28Now, typically when tropical systems pass south of Hawaii, that flow really hammers the east-facing sides of the mountains that often see the heavy rain just with the trade winds.
01:39In this case, this is going to take a path a little farther west-northwest, so even though there's not much wind with it, there will be some showers.
01:45And since the center of the storm is going to pass north of the islands, you're going to get the southern part of the storm that will actually bring the drier side of the islands some beneficial rain, which is actually very good news because they've been dealing with some drought there.
01:57Hone is still on the map, but it's west of Hawaii and will continue to move farther west, so that's not going to be much of a story for us.
02:03Overall, we'll be dealing with, again, some concerns tied to that, but as we move way, way out into an area near Japan, we're dealing with huge problems here in areas south of Tokyo.
02:14Two-plus feet of rain have fallen here tied to Typhoon Shanshan, which is a really menacing storm impacting an area out into the West Pacific.
