By waiting until two weeks before the season starts to sign CeeDee Lamb, did the Cowboys cost themselves almost $20m this season? Shan & RJ discuss CeeDee Lamb's completed deal and why it could bite them financially down the road.

00:00$20,000,000 this year is potentially what you conscious to cost yourself by waiting
00:23on CD lamp. Let's talk about it. So Todd Archer just joined us at eight o'clock and had
00:29talked about how CD lamb was going to wait for Justin Jefferson. That, that was the deal.
00:38I agree that when we reached this off season, CD was waiting and technically last year too,
00:44but only because of what Todd had kind of just explained. They were trying to pay him
00:48$25 million a year last year. That was what they, they tried to get a deal done. They
00:52were kind of firm on that. CD obviously had not blown up the way he did last year and
00:57hadn't had the type of season that he did. Cowboys were trying to pay him 25 a year last
01:01year. And CD was like, nah, I'm near the top of the market. And the market at the time
01:07was Tyree kill at 30 million. So the problem is that they, the Cowboys were never going
01:14to go to 3031 last year. Had they been willing to do it though, if they would have looked
01:20at it and said, we know what CD is going to do. We know what CD is capable of. And
01:26we know that Jefferson is coming. That's going to come down the pike. Yeah. Then you maybe
01:32look at that and say, you know what? Maybe we should be willing to go up a little bit.
01:36We need to make an investment. CD lamb gets his deal done yesterday, four years, $136
01:41million a year over the life of the contract. That is an average value of 34 million a year.
01:47He gets a hundred million guaranteed. We don't have the specific details yet of how
01:51they're shifting money around in the contract. All that's going to come out. What we do know
01:55right now is that CD lamb is scheduled to make right at basically $18 million this year,
02:01million a game essentially. And it worked. If you can get it. Yeah, it is. They gave
02:05him a $38 million signing bonus, which when you divvy that up over the five years on the
02:13cap, like you're allowed to do that ends up being 7.6 million a year. So, okay. So
02:18they give them the lump today and they could take that lump and spread it out by five.
02:22So from 2024 through 2028, there is $7.6 million on the cap every year that CD lamb is responsible
02:29for regardless of what his salary is.
