00:00Hello, I'm Ellie from Epic Hope. We're a suicide prevention organisation based in Wigan.
00:06We're coming up to Suicide Prevention Day 2024 on the 10th of September and the theme is Change
00:14the Narrative, Start a Conversation. So we thought it would be nice to start a conversation by post.
00:20We're inviting everybody in the Wigan and Leigh areas to write a message of hope and
00:26encouragement to a stranger. We're asking people to do this by writing a message, posting it in
00:32one of our purple post boxes in the Grand Arcade or in Leigh Market and around the borough in
00:38various libraries and to give hope to somebody in our region. So what does hope mean to you?
00:45Well whatever you feel could be hopeful to lift up someone, to brighten the day or to give them
00:50that strength to hang on for one more day. It could be a poem, it could be a little note or it could
00:57be a letter with some really kind powerful words of hope. On the 8th of September we'll be holding
01:05the Wigan Walk for Hope. It's our second annual Walk for Hope which is a walk to support everybody
01:12in the region who has lost somebody to suicide. There are a great many people joining us on this
01:19walk and we give out hope bags and we're hoping that to be able to fill these hope bags
01:24not only with some goodies but also with these letters of hope.
