00:0516 strokes of the cane by the Shah Alam High Court after being found guilty of three drug
00:10offences.
00:11Judge Datuk Norsharidha Awang made the decision on Thursday after allowing the prosecution's
00:16appeal to overturn the acquittal of Yasin by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court in November
00:21last year.
00:22Upon hearing the verdict, the Mimpi Leila singer appeared sombre, while family members,
00:27including his 16-year-old daughter, wept in the public gallery of the court.
00:36According to the first amended charge, the 49-year-old was accused of possessing 193.7
00:42grams of cannabis at a condominium in Kota Damansara at 5.30pm on March 24, 2022.
00:50The charge was made under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under
00:56Section 39A, Subsection 2 of the same Act, which provides for life imprisonment or not
01:01less than 5 years, and a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane if convicted.
01:06For the second charge, Yasin was accused of cultivating 17 cannabis plants at the same
01:11location, time and date.
01:13He was charged under Section 6B, Subsection 1A of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries
01:18a penalty of life imprisonment and a minimum of 6 strokes of the cane if convicted.
01:24For the third charge, Yasin was accused of self-administering THC, a primary active component
01:29of cannabis, at the Narcotics Office of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters
01:34at 11.05pm on the same date.
01:37For this offence, the charge was brought under Section 15, Subsection 1A of the Dangerous
01:42Drugs Act, which carries a fine of up to 5,000 ringgit, or a maximum of 2 years imprisonment
01:48if convicted.
01:50On November 29, 2023, Yasin was acquitted and discharged of the three drug cases, but
01:56the court ordered him to be placed under the care of Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak
02:00for the duration of the Selangor Sultan's consent.
