Company supervisor sentenced to 10 years' jail, fined RM70,000 for DUI that led to death

Company supervisor Lee Han Wee was sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined RM70,000, in default 12 months in jail, by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court for driving under the influence of alcohol that resulted in a road crash and caused the death of a car driver three years ago.

00:00A company supervisor was sentenced to 10 years in prison along with a fine of 70,000 ringgit
00:06for driving under the influence of alcohol, which caused a fatal road accident three years ago.
00:12The Ayer Kero Magistrates' Court on Friday delivered the verdict on 45-year-old Lee Han Wee
00:17after finding the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution's case.
00:23The court also ordered Lee's driving licence to be suspended for 10 years
00:28upon completing his jail sentence. The offence was committed on Jalan Limbongan in Klebang
00:33on November 29, 2021. The accused's lawyer had applied for a stay of execution of the sentence,
00:41saying that his client required specialist treatment after sustaining a hip injury
00:46following the incident. The prosecution objected to it saying that the accused will be able to
00:51receive treatment in prison. The court allowed the stay and increased bail to 20,000 ringgit
00:57with one surety.
