Lorry driver jailed for cyberbullying-related offences in Tiktok influencer's death

A lorry driver was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wed (Sept 12) after pleading guilty to two charges linked to a TikTok influencer who was found dead in July.

According to reports, Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali, after passing down the sentence on 44-year-old B. Satishkumar, also ordered the imprisonment to start from the date of his arrest, June 10.

00:05on Wednesday after pleading guilty to two charges linked to a TikTok influencer A. Rajeswari,
00:12also known as Aisha, who was found dead in July.
00:17After passing down the sentence on 44-year-old B. Satish Kumar, Judge Siti Amina Ghazali
00:23also ordered the imprisonment to start from the date of his arrest on June 10.
00:28Prior to sentencing, Satish Kumar had apologised, acknowledged his wrongdoing and vowed not
00:33to repeat his actions and had asked for forgiveness.
00:37He was charged with knowingly creating and posting obscene content through a communications
00:42service with the intent to offend others via the TikTok account on June 30.
00:49Satish Kumar also faced a second charge for insulting and outraging the modesty of Rajeswari's
00:55mother P. R. Puspa through the same TikTok profile on the same date, time and location.
01:03On July 4, Rajeswari filed a police report to say that she had been threatened, insulted
01:09and verbally abused.
01:10However, she did not appear at the police station to provide testimony, and the next
01:15day, Rajeswari was found dead at her residence in Setapak.
01:20Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Sabri Othman requested a custodial sentence
01:26considering the severity of the offence, as well as the importance of public interest
01:31and the victim's rights.
01:33In mitigating for leniency, Satish Kumar's lawyer Mohamad Izwan Ishak requested a minimum
01:39sentence to be served concurrently, considering this was a client's first offence and has
01:45three children and a wife with disabilities to support.
